I had never tasted Afghan food before, like a lot of people in the SLO County area I would guess. When I saw this new restaurant online, I decided to go. The flavors were delicious, and not quite like anything I had tasted before, but just good. As an appetizer on the table they had dried chickpeas, pistachios and some dried berries I liked a lot. I ordered the dumplings, with beef inside and topped with chickpeas (?) and pomegranate, with a side of yogurt sauce and lentils. An interesting tasty mix of savory with a little sweet. They also had a vegetarian dish option, though I didn't order it. In addition to the dumplings the chef brought me some pakora (?), which she said were fried spinach and potato fritters, with a delicious side sauce (maybe cilantro?)--these pakora with the sauce were my favorite, so good. I could have eaten a whole plate of those. The rice pudding dessert was also a treat, as was the green tea. The chef and hostess were super friendly and welcoming, and the seating area though a little small was nice and peaceful. It looks like they are currently only open Saturday 11am-3pm, but it was totally worth making the window of time!

Had an amazing lunch here. The menu is small, and we ordered one of each things available. It was all super unique and delicious. The women running the restaurant were lovely as well. Will definitely be back.

Salata- Afghani Salad. Cucumber, walnuts, radishes, tomatoes, red onion, pomegranate, cilantro, dried mint. So refreshing!

Gorgeous new spot in San Luis Obispo to enjoy Afghani cuisine. Open Saturdays 11-3 for lunch only. The food is amazing and unlike anything we have in SLO. We had 3 separate dishes and loved everything. The food is so flavorful, but light. The patio is like a little oasis. My kids loved the spiced chicken with rice and shredded carrots. The eggplant dish was cooked perfectly. Warm service and unique food experience. A hidden gem worth the planning to go.

An Unforgettable Birthday Dinner with Breathtaking Ocean Views!…read more We came to Ventana Grill in Pismo Beach for a Sunday night dinner date to celebrate my wife's birthday. This place definitely gets packed, so I highly recommend reserving a table in advance. We were lucky enough to get a window seat, and the outdoor patio views of the ocean are simply amazing! On top of that, the staff here has definitely become even more friendly--our server, Zach, was super efficient and attentive throughout our meal. The food was incredible from start to finish: * Mahi Mahi Fish Ceviche: We started with this alongside fresh tortilla chips, and it was honestly one of the best ceviches we've ever had. * Clam Chowder Soup: This special clam chowder came served with Parmesan cheese bread, which was absolute perfection. Again, hands down one of the best soups we've tasted! * Molcajete Surtido: For our main dish, we ordered this classic feast loaded with grilled colossal shrimp, arrachera steak, chicken breast, chorizo, spring onion, jalapeño peppers, nopalitos, avocado, pork rinds, molcajete salsa, queso fresco, and corn tortillas, served with a side of rice and beans. All the meats were so tender and flavorful, and the rice and beans were really nice. We were so full that we didn't even get to touch the tortillas! To top off a wonderful evening, they brought out a complimentary ice cream with a candle to celebrate my wife's birthday, which was such a thoughtful and sweet touch. Whether you're planning a special date night or a family outing, we definitely recommend Ventana Grill!

Wow, I just don't know where to start with how amazing this place is!…read more It was my birthday, and we called for a reservation last minute. When we got there, they couldn't find it, but no worries--the manager brought us to an amazing table by the window. Our waiter, Marcus, was incredible! I didn't say anything, but I've been in the industry off and on for 30 years, and he was one of the best servers I've ever had. I trained servers for 5 years, and he just knocked it out of the park! The hostess and the bussers were also so attentive. The food was heavenly! We got the grilled artichoke, the apple and endive salad, the Yukon gold potatoes, and two filets (Rare and Medium Rare). I worked for a steakhouse, and wow! Everything was cooked perfectly. My only note is just a little less salt, but I also just have a lower tolerance than most people, so I don't think it's their fault--it's my palate. The decor and the vibe were also just right on the money. The music wasn't super loud, so you could hear the person across from you, which was refreshing. This was the third place in SLO we ate at on our trip, and it was the best place to celebrate my 46th birthday! We will definitely be back in SLO and at Ox + Anchor.

The food was delicious and the drinks were fire! They offer various cocktails including pisco sours in different flavors. The lychee one was strong but so good! We didn't have a reservation but they were able to sit us at the bar right away. The staff there were super friendly and helpful. I had the Ravioli de Champignon with truffle oil, soo good. And my husband had the Señor Lomo (Lomo Saltado) which he also loved. It's a little pricey in my opinion but definitely worth checking out at least once.

We were seated right away and received complimentary champagne for our anniversary. The cocktails were very good. I believe mine was the lychee cocktail. I ordered the lobster ravioli and oh my goodness, the ají Amarillo sauce was to die for. Such a unique flavor profile, it was savory, creamy, rich but not heavy, and just seasoned perfectly to pair with the lobster. My husband said his steak was wonderfully seasoned and cooked too. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside and works great for an upscale casual dining experience. The service was great too. No complaints, except for the fact we live over 3 hours away.
