We were on our way to Morro Bay and needed to stop for gas and grab lunch since we hadn't eaten yet. Not knowing where to go, we Googled Filipino restaurants nearby and found Food Trip. It was a great decision! As soon as we walked in, we were warmly greeted by Relly. We asked for recommendations, and he suggested their best sellers: crispy pata and tortang talong. We ordered both, along with garlic fried rice and pork BBQ--and we were not disappointed! The crispy pata was perfectly crispy on the outside, while the meat inside was incredibly tender. The tortang talong and pork BBQ were equally delicious. To top it off, Relly treated us to a complimentary ube ice cream affogato, which was the perfect ending to our meal. Relly and Jeremy were so friendly and accommodating. We mentioned we were visiting the area, and Relly kindly recommended places to explore and where to find fresh seafood. Lumpiang Shanghai: Unfortunately they were soggy and no longer crispy. (Note that we did get takeout but this shouldn't be too much of an effect because our lechon was nice and crispy.) The flavor was alright but I've had better lumpia anywhere else. Also curiously small in size. Lechon Kawali: Whenever we got a piece of the pork rind/skin it was nice and crispy. Unfortunately all we got in our order was pork skin. Only about 10% was any actual pork meat. We basically got chicharron. Pancit Bihon: This was the third best part of our order. There was a nice assortment of proteins, got some shrimp, chicken, and sausage. However it was a bit dry. Garlic Rice: Nice and flavorful, not too oily or salty. My favorite savoury item that I tried. Can't go wrong and it complements every main dish. Halo Halo: This was the best part of our order. The ube ice cream complimented the other ingredients. It was sweet (as it should be) but this was balanced by all the different textures. As far as service goes, we chose to do takeout so can't speak much on that. The wait was about half an hour which may have been longer than usual because a large birthday party was dining in when we arrived. We were assisted as promptly as the single worker taking orders could. The interior is very casual. One thing I'd keep in mind if dining in is that the place can get pretty smokey. Not sure how their ventilation system is but when I came back to pick up my order, the inside was looking a little hazy. Cost would deter me from coming back because our order was nearly $70 for what we got. The Halo Halo alone was $10. The quality of what we got did not justify the high price. It could have just been a bad day because they had a bigger party to tend to but it shouldn't affect the quality of food coming out even if it's just for first time take-out orders. read more

I have to say, this was one of the best most enjoyable experiences I've had in Santa Maria since I've been here for the past Month. My boyfriend and I are in town for a year, originally from Los Angeles where Filipino food is easily accessible but this was our only option in town so we decided to stop by and give it a go. When we arrived we were greeted by the owner, Relly, who explained their menu in detail and assigned us a table. Through conversation, he and my boyfriend established they were both from the same general area in the Philippines which was nice. He shared a story as to how the restaurant concept came about and his family story which was nice! We enjoyed our conversation and feel we made a genuine connection. We decided to keep it simple and try their Longsilong, Pancit Bihon, and Lumpia. Everything tasted very fresh and full of flavor. Filipino food can often times be extra greasy and somewhat heavy but theirs felt much lighter. Emphasis on the freshness! Very happy with their food quality overall. Their portions were also very large which was nice. We had enough to take home and have as a late night snack! I also want to call out how crisp the cabbage was in the Pancit, you can tell it was very fresh! Relly was kind enough to deliver a complimentary Halo-Halo to our table as a welcome gift which I thought was very thoughtful and kind. We were actually shocked at how large and delicious it was! I cant give this spot enough praise! What Relly has done for himself and family by creating this incredibly delicious concept is amazing and from what I can see, our community appreciates it as well. Super attentive, genuinely hardworking, and honestly impressive. I ordered the crispy milkfish (the famous Filipino national fish), and my husband had the chicken skewers. The seasoning was slightly bold, but with rice it was perfectly balanced -- exactly how it should be. At the next table, a group ordered noodles and Crispy Pata. What a generous portion of the food! Let me just say: that pork leg looked like something a medieval barbarian would proudly feast on. Huge. Legendary. Easily enough for four people. This is not a "small portion" place. Delicious food, friendly mom's and pop's restaurant with authentic Filipino food! The place is not much to look at outside or inside, but you don't need much when the food is so good! It's our family's favorite Asian restaurant in the area whenever we get a craving (which happens often lol). We always do family style and order at least several dishes to share. The pansit portion is huge! I always have leftover to look forward to the very next day (or that night :D). You know the place is authentic when every Filipinos you know tell you this is where they go if they want Filipino food outside of their home. I was Craving BBQ and decided to try this new place out. I did take out but the space looked clean and spacious. Not sure if it was the owner or a worker but, smile at the time of pick up, turned into a dissatisfied face when i didn't leave a tip. This is about the only negative I can say about this new restaurant but tipping on takeout is another talk for another time. I don't recall what the noodles name was but they had shrimp and veggies. Originally i thought the price was high but then I got the food and it's probably 4 portions. You get a family size takeout container and it is cooked very well and tastes delicious. The pork skewers were surprising because of how they're made on the stick. I was expecting kebabs but it's more of a schwarma style stacking on these. The pricing, again, made sense because there is a ton of meat on each stick, it's just packed down. The sauce on the meat was great and so was the citrus sauce on the side. This summer , we found ourselves having a hard time finding parking by the beach, so we decided to explore different areas and food close by in Santa Maria. How awesome to find an authentic Filipino restaurant! Apparently there are 2 in Santa Maria, we stopped by Food Trip because it was open. I was so excited to eat some good Filipino food. I miss my best friends mom's chicken adobo, so I ordered that. Along with some lumpia and my friend ordered some pork belly. I forgot what it was called. Everything was DELICIOUS. The restaurant is located in a little strip mall with other businesses, it is kind of hard to find when you're driving. I missed it the first time. The place is small but clean, and everyone there was very friendly! They answered any questions we had, and they were very attentive. This was our brunch stopover on the way to Hearst Castle back in December. I was very glad to have found this place. A very nice selection of Filipino cuisine on the menu. Too bad though that they discontinued the Tapsilog (marinated beef strips served with garlic rice and fried egg), another popular filipino breakfast staple. But the Bangsilog was just as good!
