Ordered - Complimentary sourdough and focaccia both delicious with the butter. Love the seasoning of the focaccia and how crispy it was. Nice flavor even without the butter. Both breads did come out a bit cold though and I wish the sourdough was crispier. - Beet and endive salad (4/5): one of the best beet salads we've had. The sauce really brings the dish together with the herbed goat cheese flavor shining subtley through. - Bone marrow tots (4/5): this was the reason we wanted to try come ox + anchor and it did not disappoint. We couldn't really taste the bone marrow, which we had expected to shine, but the tots themselves were perfectly crispy and flavored. We both also loved the horseradish creme fraiche that helped cut through some of the heaviness of this dish. Note though that there is an odd amount of tots per dish so my gf and I had to fight over the last one. - 10oz american wagyu flat iron (5/5): we ordered this medium rare and it was perfectly cooked. The steak was juicy but not overly fatty since it was consistently marbled. It was seasoned well but we loved trying all the different complimentary sauces with it - especially the red wine bordelaise sauce. So glad we tried this! - Ox burger with aged cheddar (5/5): Super fresh tasting and not oily at all. Juicy and super aromatic to the bite. Brioche bun was slightly sweet and made the dish well balanced. We also loved the tomato relish that was included as it was super unique and delicious. It was a bit odd having the lettuce, tomato, pickle, and pickled onion on the side but we had it like a side salad and it worked out ok. The fries included were yummy and definitely get the lemon aioli to add to some bites! - Meyer Lemon Cheesecake (5/5): Not heavy or overly sweet at all which we really appreciated since we were stuffed at this point. It was great how the orange sherbet cut through the lemon flavor. - Dark chocolate, baking soda, honey comb - Appreciated this small dessert for our Valentine's Day dinner. The honeycomb was dehydrated and crunchy when biting but softens and gets sticky when chewing. - Towel w almond smell Overall (5/5): Late review for our Valentine's day reservation. Service was super friendly and helpful, especially at explaining the menu. Ambiance was pretty vibey with candlelight but it was a bit noisy. Overall food and vibes were amazing and it was one of the best meals we had that weekend!

Came here tonight for our one year anniversary and we had an incredible meal. We were under the impression that Ox + Anchor was fine dining but once we got there, the entire restaurant was so incredibly loud. Like we could barely hear our server. No music or any of that. Not super pleasant. Also there were a lot of people here tonight dressed in like bed clothing or regular street wear. Which is fine of course, no judgment. You'd just think a place this nice would have a dress code. The food. Amazing, from the complimentary bread to the steak to the sides to dessert. Top-down absolutely delicious, wonderful food. Our server was amazing. He took care of us.

Wow.. I can't explain how amazing this dinner was. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside, service was 10/10 but the star of the show was the meal. We ordered a Cesar salad to start, with the in house made focaccia and sourdough with salted butter. For entrees we had the brussel sprouts, puree potatoes, the rib eye and filet magnon. I'll be thinking about this meal for a long time; the steaks were cooked to perfection mixed with a perfect array of house made sauces (many different choices). The potato puree was actually insane, so creamy and flavorful. Cannot recommend Ox + Anchor enough! Such an incredible and delicious meal.

Went here with my gf about a month ago for our anniversary and loved it. Steaks were cooked to our preferences and the sauces provided were excellent. I loved that they were included for free because at most steakhouses I've been to or restaurants similar to this one, I've had to pay for each sauce. The tater tots and mashed potatoes here were the real stars in my opinion. The tater tots here aren't like your regular tater tots texture, it had a more breadcrumby kind of exterior but it's great to me, nice and soft and cheesy inside

Ox + Anchor feels like the kind of place San Luis Obispo has been patiently waiting for. You walk in and immediately sense that this room knows what it is doing. Contemporary and polished without being stiff, softly lit but never dim, it strikes that rare balance where you feel dressed up enough to care and relaxed enough to enjoy yourself. One of the first things you notice is the massive glass wall separating the dining room from the kitchen. It is not a gimmick. It is a quiet flex. Chefs move with calm focus, plates come together with intention, and you get the comforting feeling that everything behind the scenes is exactly where it should be. Watching dinner come to life adds a subtle excitement, like seeing the orchestra before the curtain rises. The space itself is clean, modern, and welcoming. It feels appropriate for everything from a first date to a business dinner to a celebration where someone definitely dressed nicer than they claimed they would. Locals, hotel guests, and travelers all seem to fit seamlessly into the room. That alone says a lot. Now the food. The salmon deserves a moment of silence. Deep sea Pacific Northwest king salmon with that beautiful marbling that only cold water fish can deliver. It was tender, rich, and somehow both indulgent and light at the same time. Each bite melted effortlessly, the kind of salmon that makes you pause mid chew and reconsider every other salmon you have ever eaten. Simple preparation, exceptional quality, unforgettable result. The lamb arrived sliced like a New York strip, boneless and beautifully presented. What made it especially fun were the sauces. A red wine sauce, a chimichurri, a marinade style sauce, and their signature Ox sauce which is their take on barbecue. This is not the loud, sharp kind that overwhelms everything. It is smooth, balanced, and genuinely complimentary. Choosing a favorite felt like picking a favorite child, but that Ox sauce made a very persuasive argument. Drinks were handled with the same care. The Old Fashioned was smooth and perfectly integrated, the kind that tastes like the bartender understands time as an ingredient. Ice, spirit, and dilution working together instead of fighting each other. The martini was equally well executed, clean and rounded with no harsh edges. From Four Roses single batch to thoughtful vodka selections, the bar program clearly takes pride in doing things properly. Sides were far from afterthoughts. The potato puree was light and airy, almost cloudlike, generous enough to make you question your portion expectations in the best way. The polenta arrived like a small cake, with a gentle crust and a soft interior that held together beautifully. Flavorful without being heavy, it walked that perfect line between comforting and refined. The salad brought freshness and balance. Endive and beets played nicely together, bright and clean, with goat cheese and candied walnuts adding just enough contrast. Speaking of goat cheese, the goat cheese croquettes were a highlight. Warm and creamy inside a crisp panko shell, finished with honey and rosemary notes that made each bite feel intentional and satisfying. Dessert sealed the evening with confidence. A deconstructed strawberry shortcake featured light sponge style cake resting on fresh diced strawberries. It felt playful and familiar without being predictable. The chocolate dessert was equally memorable. A dark chocolate tart base topped with a scoop of rich mousse and paired with ice cream that brought everything together. Decadent without being overwhelming, the kind of dessert that makes conversation pause for a moment. Then there is Brian. Every great restaurant has that one person who quietly elevates the entire experience, and at Ox + Anchor, Brian is that person. He reads tables like a seasoned novelist reads a room. Our interaction was warm, engaging, and perfectly paced, while the couple next to us enjoyed a more hushed and romantic rhythm. That level of awareness is rare and deeply appreciated. Brian was knowledgeable, confident, funny, and genuinely invested in making the night special. Timing was impeccable, plates arrived gracefully, and small details never slipped. One especially thoughtful touch was the warm steamed towels infused with almond oil. Not just practical, but refreshing and unexpected, leaving your hands clean and lightly scented after enjoying more hands on dishes. Ox + Anchor feels smooth, organized, and joyful. It is the kind of place where you can dress up a little, feel important without feeling stiff, and trust that every detail is being handled with care. San Luis Obispo benefits from having a restaurant like this. It feels worthy of attention, worthy of celebration, and worthy of repeat visits. We are already talking about coming back. That usually tells you everything you need to know.

Have you ever seen the show "The Bear?" That's what I think about when I come to Ox+Anchor. The food is so well made and the staff is so attentive; it is hard not to love this place. I've had dinner here twice and both times were amazing. I started off with a salad, which was simple but so flavorful. The accompanying bread was toasted nicely and delicious. We then shared the bone marrow tots, which wasn't what I expected but was very good. The inside is almost like a mashed potato texture; but flavorful and not too heavy For my main dish, I got the steak with a side of Mac n cheese. The steak melted in my mouth and was one of the best I've had. The dessert was a mini cheese cake and wow! So good! I could eat that everyday. I can't wait to come back here again for dinner! Definitely worth the visit if you're in SLO!

Absolutely loved my experience at Ox + Anchor! The restaurant itself is gorgeous and has a cute bar. The service staff was incredibly nice and helpful, they have exceptional service. The overall vibe is so cute and upscale, definitely the perfect steakhouse vibe that slo needed. The food comes out so fresh and hot, loved my fillet and the potatoes were absolutely to die for. I'd come back here in a second! Highly recommend.

Such a great find. We didn't have a reservation but luckily there was some corner space in the bar area for our group. We got Slo n easy martinis and were so good. A nice twist on a classic martini. We ordered bone marrow tots, beet salad, and oysters as apps. Then the burger, chicken, and hanger steak for mains, and Brussels sprouts for a side. The tots were decadent and flavorful and still had a nice crisp. The Brussels sprouts had a great balance with the pickled onions and bacon for flavor. Oysters were fresh and also just looked so good when served. Steak and the sauces were so fresh and loved the chimichurri. The chicken was so so juicy and burger was definitely bigger than expected and perfect. I'd come back again and highly recommend.

Celebrated my 65th birthday and decided to try out Ox Anchor. We had a great dining experience. Our server, Marcus, was very friendly and attentive. He was very welcoming and shared some of his favorites on the menu. We started with the grilled artichokes, yellowfin tuna tartare and 1/2 dozen local Morro Bay raw oysters. Everything was great. The freshly baked sour dough bread and focaccia along with the salted butter was delicious. Two of us had the 12 oz ribeye and the other two had Snake River Farms Wagyu flat iron. The ribeye was cooked to perfection but the SPF Wagyu melted into your mouth. We shared grilled asparagus and the mash potatoes. Since it was my birthday, I received a complimentary strawberry shortcake dessert. It was yummy. My family all agree that we will be returning to Ox Anchor in the future.

Ox + Anchor - My family & I had made an impromptu trip to SLO & the last evening we were there we decided to find a steakhouse near our hotel. I made reservations for 745 & we checked in a little bit before our reservation time to see if they had anything available sooner. The manager & the hostess both were so helpful & got us a table after a few minutes. We started with the dumplings & I ordered the SLO n Easy. The dumplings were full of flavor & they were the perfect appetizer. They also brought out complimentary bread & butter with sea salt. My husband ordered a Ribeye & I ordered the Filet Mignon. Both came out at the perfect temp & the creamed spinach was a great shareable size. Our server, Tory was extremely hospitable & sweet. I ordered another drink & they were both so good. We ordered the Baked Alaska & it was presented at our table. Such a unique combination of cake/ice cream. The interior of the restaurant is gorgeous & we sat near the window where my daughter was able to see the food being prepped & she had a good time watching & waving at everyone! The service was amazing from the very beginning. Everyone we came in contact with were super friendly & accommodating. If you are in the area & you are looking for quality service & amazing top notch food, this is the spot!

Can you bring your own wine and what is the corkage and is there a night when corkage is waived?

    Is the restaurant kid friendly?

    Yes it is.

I know it's an upscale restaurant, would nice jeans be acceptable if paired with a nice top and shoes?

That's what I wore the last time I was there, and most were dressed the same. It's upscale, but also a fun place to spend an evening and a meal.

Do they allow you to bring your own bottle of wine? If so, what's the corkage fee?

HI Steven, You are welcome to bring your own wine-the corkage is $25.…

We were walk in, the hostess offered us seating in two bar areas and also made room in the front room for us. We sat at a table in the front room. It had nice ambiance and nicely decorated with plants. Our server was super sweet and helpful. We ordered a Paloma which was great but I heard the pisco sours are good and homemade. Wish we tried one but next time! The service was so fast. When we got our cocktail the food arrived! We ordered the señor lomo which was their lomo saltado. It was sooo good. The sauce was so flavorful and the filet mignon was very tender. It came with a lot of veggies, fries and rice too. Also ordered the escabeche which was a sea bass with similar delicious sauce and veggies. It had mixed colored roasted potato's underneath. Fish and the dish was soft and equally flavorful and delicious. I would say the sauce was slightly lighter than señor lomo. They had a platter of desserts on display. Wish we could have all of them. They all looked pretty and delicious. We tried the papaya creme brûlée. Thought it mostly tasted just like creme brûlée. Highly recommend. It is one of the best Peruvian places I've been. Kinda pricy though, each dish was about $40.

The Tamalito Negro was easily the highlight of the meal and one of the most memorable dishes I've had recently. The Peruvian black squid ink tamale was soft and flavorful, and the creamy ají amarillo sauce worked beautifully with the shrimp. It was creative, distinctive, and absolutely worth ordering. The Corazón, or grilled beef heart anticucho, was also excellent. It still had the characteristic flavor of beef heart, which I appreciated, rather than being over-marinated or disguised. The texture was just right: tender but not artificially soft, with enough chew to remain satisfying without being tough. The Seco de Cordero was much less impressive. The lamb was fine, but the cilantro-based sauce was too salty for me, and the dish did not have the same refinement or excitement as the two appetizers. At $50, I expected more. I also tried the classic Pisco Sour, which was smooth, refreshing, and much stronger than it tasted. Unfortunately, the service was extremely disorganized. After I was seated, nobody came to take my order until I actively called someone over. I was not given water and had to request it when the cocktail finally arrived. My server also entered my order incorrectly and ordered a second Tamalito Negro instead of the Corazón. The food runner noticed that I had already received the tamale, took it back to confirm with the kitchen, and only then was the mistake discovered. As a result, my appetizer arrived after my entrée. I also waited a long time after asking for the check and a to-go box, although the server eventually took the food to the back and packed it for me. The kitchen clearly has talent, particularly with the Tamalito Negro and Corazón. But at this price point, guests should not have to repeatedly flag someone down for basic service, water, correct ordering, and the check. I would consider returning for the food, but the service needs major improvement.

I opted to do a trio with the bahn mi, tip o' Argentina, and the garlic fries. The food was good I forgot to take a picture! The tip o' Argentina was solid with the garlic aioli and the chimmichurri perfectly complimenting the steak and the lettuce and tomato adding a little bit of freshness. The buns they use for all of their sliders are soft, slightly sweet, and don't fall apart while you're eating. The Bahn Mi was even better. I love pork but was a little skeptical about pulled pork on a slider riffing on the flavors of a bahn mi. To my surprise and delight, it tasted just like grilled Vietnamese pork, which was perfectly complimented by the fresh and pickled veggies and surprisingly hot jalapeño. Finally, I got the garlic fries which were a massive portion, crisp, and very garlicky. Everything was good and with such a large and customizable menu, I'd definitely return if I was in the area again. I also want to give a shout out to the bartender, Kelsey. I sat at the bar and her service was attentive and she was very knowledgeable about the menu. We got the opportunity to chat for a bit and I loved her vibe, so definitely consider sitting at the bar if you're dining solo or with a friend.

A slider, a salad, and a brussels sprouts side, no problem! As a person who likes variety, I thought it was a great menu. Of course, the menu is not the only part of the restaurant. Service was great, parking was easy (once we found the place - our GPS had us go to a different parking lot first), and the food tasted good. Would love to go again, would seek it out if I'm in town again.

Service here was excellent, we were checked up on enough and our server gave great recommendations. Thanks to our server Talia D! We sat in a cute garden area with vines, plants, and fairy lights, very cozy like you're in a friend's well-decorated patio. They also gave us complementary bread before we received our meal, and a lot of the dishes were unique and plated well. I would come back if I'm ever in the area and would recommend this place to all my friends! All ratings below are averaged (from me and my bf): salmon bisque // 9.25 // very yummy and unique. my bf didn't think he'd like it -- he usually dislikes seafood -- but it was great!! creamy, clear salmon taste but no unpleasant fishy/ocean taste that a lot of seafood has. i've never had this anywhere else, props to the chef! thai green curry // 8.5 // my bf says it's a 9. it's good but i feel like it was not my fave, it's lowkey your good, standard green curry that you can get at any thai place duck breast (curry) // 8.75 // very delicious and unique, i'd rate the curry, rice, and duck breast as 9/10, the duck breast itself was a 10/10. the curry was creamy, and they were all delicious and fragrant, pairing well together. however, the mushrooms, carrots, and other veggies it came with are too sweet. they seem like they're glazed with a sauce that has too much sugar. the black rice was surprisingly very filling strawberry matcha trifle // 8 // yummy, nothing majorly wrong with it. reminds me of a strawberry matcha latte. matcha whipped cream was a nice, unique touch i haven't really seen elsewhere despite it not sounding difficult to make. i'd order it again but i feel like it's on the sweeter side, so you can't eat too much of it.

I ordered the filet medium but it was served more on the well side. I would not order this again. I also had two Lavender Linen cocktails that were great. My husband ordered the FRESH AVOCADO-SHRIMP SPRING ROLLS and the description was glass noodles, julienned vegetables, ginger soy and chili sauces, cilantro, mint, bell pepper garnish, roasted peanuts. He loved them. Normally, he eats spring rolls with peanut sauce but the sauces that accompanied the spring rolls were perfect. The outdoor setting is very romantic and not what you would expect from a downtown restaurant. We left at dusk but I'm sure it's spectacular at night. Service was spot-on. We were with a large party and our server was very accommodating; giving recommendations and double checking once items arrived that they were correct. I highly recommend trying the lavender linen cocktail and spring rolls if you're in the area.

We were placed on the back patio, which was beautiful, covered, heated, and thoughtfully decorated, making it a very comfortable and inviting space. We ordered the Cajun Seafood Boil, and it did not disappoint. It came with a generous amount of crab, shrimp, lobster, clams, and mussels. The seasoning was bold and flavorful without being overwhelming. The corn, potatoes, and sausage were perfectly portioned, complementing the seafood instead of taking the focus away from it. The rich, buttery garlic sauce tied everything together and was absolutely delicious. We also ordered the half-shell oysters, which were the perfect medium size. They were meaty and had the rich, briny flavor I enjoy. Our server, Angel, was outstanding. Our food came out quickly, she checked on us regularly, and she was attentive to everything we needed without any delay. Overall, we had a fantastic dining experience from start to finish. Great food, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere made this an easy place to recommend for the whole family.

They have since opened up their own restaurant in Downtown SLO and celebrated their 1 year anniversary the weekend we were there. Already had plans that evening so missed out on their live cultural show for their celebration but did manage to stop by for lunch the last time we were passing through SLO. I always get the causa every time and this time was no different, getting both the octopus and mushroom causa while the pork chicharron sandwich is always a winner. By actually dining in vs. takeout, meant I can get the Chicha Morada made with purple corn that my high school friend who spent years doing research in the Peruvian Amazon introduced me to decades ago and tried for the first time, the Hot Maca.

We love Peruvian food, it's nostalgic for us, but also he would frequently tell me that this restaurant is a little on the pricier side. I was so hype when I saw they had a both at the farmers market. I didn't get a chance to take pictures, but they had some classics in a faster setting. We ended up getting the lomo saltado burrito, a concept I hadn't thought of but boy did it work! All the authenticity of the onions, tomatoes, carne and fries, in an easy to eat burrito. It was only 11 bucks, we almost got the yucca fries, but decided against cause we were full already. If you're in town on a Thursday, check it out.
