On Mondays, they host a buffet style service. You can bring your own container or use a provided one to fill up with however much food you want. The cool thing is that this is donation based, you can pay based on what you feel. The dishes served were all vegetarian expect for the chicken wontons. The variety is based on what's available and cooked in batches. They don't bring out new dishes until the current dishes are finished or nearly finished. Note that many of the dishes contain peanuts. My favorite was the Cold Peanut Noodles, it was light and creamy. There's seating outside or take your meal home to enjoy! ig: @cravingswithcat

I was very hopeful after reading the reviews and seeing the buffet pics. I'm dying for some authentic Chinese. We ordered using Harvestly delivery service so maybe something wasn't packaged? Like condiments? We ordered the dumplings and the Dan Dan Noodles. Honestly, I could barely taste any difference between them. It was the exact same flavor profile; pasta in a bland, slightly spiced sesame oil. I mean, really all you could taste was sesame oil. The most flavorful part of each dish was the fresh bok choy. Neither me nor my husband liked them and we ended up tossing both after tasting and enjoying what turned out to be very expensive bok choy. I'm giving three stars because the noodles and the dumpling pasta had quite good texture and bite and the bok choy was fresh although a bit skimpy on the quantity. But gotta get some flavor in there, guys, if you want more stars from me.

I recently went to Sichuan Kitchen for their special buffet on a Monday night. They were trying out a new concept where you get to pay whatever amount you feel like. The spread included a variety of authentic Sichuan dishes such as mapo tofu, rice, noodles, bok choy, cucumber salad, wontons, and more. The noodles were my favorite, with rich spicy flavors and the perfect texture. The Sichuan peanuts were also so good I wish I got more than just a small container. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the staff were friendly and accommodating as they continuously refilled the food. This pop-up is a great idea especially in the SLO community that doesn't have a lot of asian options. I highly recommend if you love spice and crave asian food. They also do 15% discount for students when you show your ID!

I suppose that's the secret to longevity, and no doubt, Gordon Ramsay would be pleased - small menu means quick kitchen and fresh food -- not frozen. I sat downstairs in one of the booths and had the cold bean thread salad. It was so yummy. I also enjoyed a $4 805 beer. So glad Mee Heng Low is here in SLO, next door to my favorite movie theater (the Palm), and serving delicious food and beer at reasonable prices.

You order at the counter and are given a number. Since they weren't very busy, they brought the food to my table, which I appreciated. The prices were on the high side, though fairly typical for many Vietnamese restaurants in California. I ordered the pork platter with rice and fried egg rolls. The portion size was about right. The rice was fine--nothing particularly memorable. The pork was a generous serving and had visible grill marks, but it didn't seem freshly grilled. It appeared to have been grilled previously and then reheated. It was served hot, but the texture and presentation were not what I would expect from freshly grilled meat. Fresh off the grill would have made a noticeable difference. The egg rolls were crispy on the outside, but the filling was dry and fairly unremarkable. They weren't bad, but they weren't a standout item either. The plate also came with iceberg lettuce, sliced tomato, cucumber, and pickled carrot and radish. The cucumber was fine, while the pickled vegetables were a bit more sour than I prefer. The biggest surprise was the dipping sauce for the egg rolls. Instead of the typical Vietnamese dipping sauce, which is usually one of my favorite parts of the meal, this version had quite a bit of chili added and was much spicier than expected. Some people may enjoy that, but it wasn't what I was anticipating. Overall, the meal was good, but not memorable enough to justify going out of my way for it. The prices felt a little high given the fast-food atmosphere. If I happened to be in the area again, I might stop in and give it another try, but I wouldn't make a special trip to return.

She pointed to the menu on top of her head, which is right there above the cashier, but I was standing so far at the back of the line which was at least 50 feet away, that I could not read the stuff on the menu that was over her head. But the point is that she wasn't even nice about it and said OK fine I'll give you a menu. When I finally made my decision, I asked her if I needed it to be on the other line or the line that she was standing at and she retorted - please give me a minute. There was no kindness. There was no common courtesy, just a matter of fact approach to really, an out of towner, tourist, who's just trying to give her restaurant's food a shot. I'm just really shocked at the rudeness. I proceeded to order the flat Thai noodles with mung beans and chicken. It came. It was fresh. But honestly, it lacks any flavor. Sorry. It was a disappointment. I'm from South East Asia. I know what I'm talking about. I would be generous to give them a 3/5. Sorry. It's not very good food at all. Which means there's nothing to say about this place other than - step up your Thai food game. Or be nice at least.

The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming throughout our entire dinner, making the night feel even more special--they even had a beautiful fresh rose on the table. We ordered a variety of dishes, and most of them absolutely hit the mark: Crying Tiger: Absolutely fabulous! The steak was perfectly grilled, tender, and paired with a truly delicious dipping sauce. Mango Sticky Rice: An excellent way to finish the night. Not only did it taste amazing, but the heart-shaped presentation was stunning. Tofu Fried Rice: Very good, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Cashew Chicken: Loaded with fresh veggies and tender chicken, this was a huge hit. Chicken Teriyaki: Another very solid, delicious choice packed with fresh broccoli and savory sauce. The only slight letdown of the evening was the Drunken Noodles. While the noodles themselves had a great texture, they lacked a bit of the spice and punchy flavor we were hoping for. That minor critique aside, between the excellent service, cozy ambiance, and standout dishes like the Crying Tiger and Mango Sticky Rice, we will definitely be back!

For food, we ordered two orders of the chicken satay, the pad thai, yellow curry, and two mango sticky rice desserts to share. Overall, the food was delicious. The chicken satay was probably my least favorite dish of everything we ordered, but it was still good. The standouts for us were definitely the Pad Thai and the yellow curry. The real star of the meal, however, was the mango sticky rice. It was one of the best versions I've had. What made it special was how balanced it was the coconut cream and sticky rice had a savory taste that paired well with the sweet mango perfectly. Many mango sticky rice desserts I've tried are overwhelmingly sweet, but this one had great balance and the mangoes were perfectly ripe and sweet. All five of us absolutely loved it. The reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the service. The staff were friendly, but not very attentive. My friends and I are Filipinos, we typically eat our meals with a spoon and fork. When our food arrived, we immediately asked for spoons, but they never came. We ended up making do with just our forks for the entire meal. The server checked on us a little after receiving our meals and asked how everything tasted, but after that we rarely saw anyone until we were nearly finished. There were a few things we requested that never made it to the table. Overall, the food was excellent and I would definitely come back, especially for the mango sticky rice. The service wasn't bad, but a little more attentiveness would have made the experience much better.
