My 2nd time reviewing this restaurant, also the first restaurant I gave a 5/5 on Yelp. Food: Amazing as usual. I tried a few different foods from what I usually get and still blown away by the quality. The seafood pancake was a delightful surprise as I don't even eat much seafood and I loved it. The kampoongi was the highlight of the show for me. It's basically the Korean version of general tao chicken. It's sweet and spicy and couldn't stop eating it. Service: Did Uber Eats with no issues. The food always comes properly packaged and very secure. Ambiance: Eating this food transports me to South Korea. This is my favourite Uber Eats take out restaurant for a reason. Everything is always good. If you've never been here try the pork bone soup it's magical. I've ordered from this restaurant more than 21 times and always recommend it to friends. Wish I could give it 3.5. The service was not great. When we arrived the seating options were limited despite it being quiet in the restaurant. Also, we both ordered drinks and the server brought something different and when we asked for recommendations based on a few options she suggested something entirely different. We tried the cold noodles and chicken katsu. They were good but not my favourite. The banchan was nice but you can only refill 2 dishes otherwise it's $2 per dish you want to refill which surprised me. The owner stopped by our table and was very nice. Delicious korean food in downtown toronto. Fast service (no table checks after food is delivered, but just raise your hand and they'll pop by if needed). This spot is not accessible friendly for mobile devices. We had a kimchi tofu stew and pork bone soup. The potatoes in the PBS had a weird 'off' taste to it so skip the potatoe(s), there is a generous amount of pork bone - and i really like that they've cut the bones smaller! With the wealth of new restaurants opening along Dundas, one shouldn't overlook these longtime establishments. In fact, I had to come here with a couple friends as our intended dinner place had a 2+ hour wait, and we weren't down for waiting so long. This is a "standard" Korean restaurant amongst many of the shiny new places that have taken over Dundas in the past decade. Again, it's nice to dine in these places after spending so much money this past holiday break travelling. We shared a rice cake with seafood and cheese, and I added a beef soybean stew for myself. Pretty standard items, and I'd say it was solid. Given the price for food these days, it's nice getting a fill-you-up dinner meal for under $30. Don't expect much for service here as it's quick, fill you up, and leave kind of place. Still worth it though! read more

This restaurant fills up pretty quickly for lunch on a Sunday. We ordered kimchi stew, kimchi pancake, and japchae with beef (adding beef costs $3 more). Soon after we ordered, we got the side dishes, and then the main dishes started coming out one after the other. On the menu, the kimchi pancake has one chilli pepper next to it, but I found that it wasn't spicy at all, and I cannot handle much spice. It was nothing like I expected. It was okay, but not great. I wouldn't order it again. The japchae was really sweet. There was a decent amount of vegetables and beef in it. We didn't finish our side dishes, but I've read from other reviews that it's not refillable. The pork bone soup was spicy with a rich flavour. It was a bit salty but pork bone soup has always been a favourite of mine, and this was one hit my craving in the right spot. The bulgogi was very tender and well marinated with a sweet soy marinade. The kimchi bibimbap was delicious with Mama Lee's famous kimchi. They only give one round of side dishes for free, and you get two side dishes for free once the first round is finished. After that, there'll be a fee. Delicious food, great service, and cozy atmosphere are all plentiful here! The bibimbap are amazingly tasty with plenty banchan to choose from to add even more flavor. The gyoza is a crispy wrapper with a fantastic flavor fillings. The takoyaki is browned perfectly on the outside with a terrific creamy inside and plump pieces of octopus. The food was 4 star. I got the bento lunch box and there were two items I didn't appreciate. The dumplings and the tempura broccoli. $24 lunch special I want to love everything. I also didn't like that they take away the dishes when you're still eating, even if there is only a little on the plate... I wanted that last piece of kimchi- ha ha I was also served a chipped glass of water and then when I asked for a new one, the lemon was on the bottom of the glass and there was no ice. Upon seating, we scoured the menu and settled on their stonepot (dolsot) bibimbap which comes in a variety of meat, seafood & vegetarian options. Bulgogi bibimbap arrived in a good size portion, with tender meat, veggies, a splash of soy sauce & drizzle of sweet hot sauce. The crispy rice added texture to the bottom of the stonepot. The meal also came with four banchan side dishes. Only dig is the menu pricing. For the second time in a month, a downtown establishment's menu vs actual item pricing didn't match. While I get that restaurants are trying to account for inflation, it's only fair via accurate menus rather than to be short-changed. read more

Preface: ended up disappointed with one specific entree. I came with a friend on a hot day after noticing naengmyun (the signature Korean cold noodles) on their menu, thinking it would be a nice way to cool off. When the dish arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by the watermelon & pear slices combo - I've seen the latter garnish for naengmyun before to counter the savory and rich broth, however not the watermelon. Both added an interesting texture for sure, a nice contrast to the soft noodles. Unfortunately, the broth was bland (largely unsatisfying) and strangely orange. The noodles were extremely thin and non-chewy, accompanied by slices of dry, flavorless beef. I also was not expecting to find partially-melted ice cubes in the dish to keep it cold. I couldn't bring myself to finish the noodles. For 19.95, I expected more, especially since I've had better while cheaper at other restaurants. My friend ordered the spicy tofu stew, which was decent. It came with an abundance of seafood, albeit at the cost of less tofu. The stew itself was flavorful, and not overwhelmingly spicy. Other thoughts on the experience - Kimchi Korea House gave 2 free complimentary refills for the Banchan (Korean side dishes). I loved their kimchi - not too acidic from the fermentation process. I'll come back for the spicy tofu stew and maybe to try some other entrees, but definitely not for the naengmyun. 2 stars for the naengmyun. read more

I recently started going for acupuncture in the area and Kimchi Korea House has become my 'go to' lunch place after my session. Their Kimchi Stew is so delicious. It hits the spot especially when it's freezing outside. I really like their banchan as well. The kimchi is not too spicy, but still has a kick to it. You're offered two complimentary refills of banchan so we always ask for more of their regular cabbage kimchi. For my husband's first visit, we ordered a bunch of dishes so that he could try a number of things. Portion sizes are generous so we had a lot of take away containers that became our lunches for the next few days. The Bibimbap, tempura, spicy chicken with cheese are all good options to order as well. Service is consistently good. It's a well-oiled machine here. Kimchi Korea House serves all the Korean dishes you expect. It was easy to grab a seat on a weekend day evening. They also followed COVID protocols and checked proof of vaccine before seating us. I'm very basic, ordered pork bone soup (PBS) and shared a kimchi pancake with friends. The PBS here is spicier than other Korean restaurants and was at the threshold of what I prefer. It was good and hit the spot on a chilly night. I only wish the potatoes were softer. My friend was going to order extra spicy and I'm glad that the server warned her to try regular first if it's her first time there. Kimchi pancake and banchan (side dishes) were also tasty. Dedicating my 100th Yelp review to one of my favorite foods and restaurant in my favorite city. Our order: gamjatang / pork bone soup. I have been eating here since college and seems like many other patrons are long time customers too. Nothing hits the spot quite like a big bowl of spicy pork bone soup on a chilly rainy day after a long stroll. Rich, deep, thick and thin at the same time. The only that has changed is the size of my stomach - I forgot how hearty the bowl was! Slurped every drop and pondered what about it tasted different from the (hopeless) gamjatangs I have had in Bay Area. Busy busy despite 30min to close. Actually 9pm is more like last call, they stop taking guests and orders after then. Fast and efficient service. We were near Toronto General Hospital and looked for something to eat around 3pm on Monday. We went to Yeuh Tung first but it was closed. Then we went to Japango, it was closed to prepare for dinner. This place was our 3rd choice and I was glad both Yeuh Tung and Japango were not open. First it was super clean to begin with but I could still see Mama Lee ( owner/ cook) was still vaccuming around with hand-held vaccum. The way they served main dishes and all the side dishes were super neat and looked clean as well. They allowed us to request to refill two side dishes which was resonable for downtown restaurants. We asked for more braised potatoes and veggie stir fry. Non Korean friends I took to this restaurant could not really handle spicy food at all, so I ordered mild food such as japchae and sweet & sour pork. Food was beyond impressive. Japchae had this fire smoky flavour () which I never experienced in other korean restaurants. Only thing was japchae was a little on the sweet side. We had a really nice experience dining here. The orders we had are the following: Stir Fried Squid ($24.95), Sweet & Sour Pork ($18.95), and Takoyaki ($13.95). They all turned out well. Their take on the Sweet & Sour Pork was a welcome surprise. I was initially expecting it to be the same as the type you get from Chinese restaurants. Here it is different, but equally good. The only inconvenience I had, if I do have to mention one was that there was no waiting area indoors. Our group of 3 people had to wait outside in the cold for a bit while waiting for the receptionist to call us back inside once a table for 3 becomes available. It's tasty and pretty consistent. + Location is good and there is a decent amount of seating. Seating is pretty comfortable too. + Take all types of credit cards including AMEX. Cons: - It's expensive! A beef bibimbap cost $12.95 (March 2019), $16.95 (Dec 2021), $19.95 (Oct 2023) and it doesn't even come with an egg! Look at those price increases! This used to be a somewhat affordable place, but it's gotten expensive now. - Banchan (side dishes) are not unlimited refills (only get 2 extra dishes). The side dishes are also on the saltier + sweeter side. - Service is generally good, but when it gets busy can be quite poor. The servers are very friendly however! One of my favourite restaurants in Toronto, there's a dish for everyone here, bibimbap is delicious with many different varieties to choose from. The soups are amazing, full of flavour, and very spicy. Follow the heat limit shown beside each dish, kimchi stew and pork bone soup are very spicy but so worth the pain! Cold noodles are refreshing on a hot day and taste amazing. The service is also top tier, every time I've gone I've been greeted as soon as I walk in, and the servers are always pleasant and always happy to explain the food and side dishes you get. The food comes quick so it's a nice place to stop for lunch or dinner. It's a smaller restaurant, right on Dundas so it's normal for the restaurants to be smaller, the layout is good though and you can walk around pretty easily in there and there are many seats and booths. The bathroom is also so beautiful and always clean. This used to be my clutch Korean go-to place downtown Toronto. For overall food taste, and a quick bite, its still near the top for me. The choices of bibimbaps, noodle dishes and rice cakes are all delicious and authentic tier for Korean food, and this is in fact authenticated by my Korean friends who grew up in South Korea. The reason this is not 5/5 is because in the past year-ish the service has gone down. There used to be unlimited refills for the side dishes, then it dropped to 3 refills, then 2, and now, on certain nights out of the 6 dishes the staff only offered us 4 of the dishes being refilled once! Besides that, the place is sometimes too overpacked.
