For starters: Yes, the food is amazing. I highly recommend it for take out. That being said, it is an absolutely miserable dining experience. The servers are obnoxious, overbearing, intrusive and don't listen. Yes, there's a language barrier, but they make no effort to listen to what you want or don't want. The restaurant is un-air conditioned (and worse, using large fans that just blow hot air around), tiny and crowded. Two stars for the yummy food (chicken tikka masala, chicken tikka saag, veggie pakoras and samosas), negative three stars for the ambiance or lack thereof. read more

Arrive as close to 11 a.m. as possible if you want to get seated quickly for lunch. By 11:30, the line is usually creeping out the door. But you won't pass out from hunger while you wait. The jolly manager will insist you munch on some pakora. The freebies continue straight through the meal - mango lassi, chai latte and pistachio dessert on a stick. Beware the super spicy naan that mischievous manager will try to get you to taste, and don't even try to leave your regular naan behind. The staff is apt to follow you out the door with your naan wrapped in foil! Between all the samples, you're sure to find your favorite Indian fare on the buffet. I took my sisters here for their birthday 3/3/22. We had this planned for weeks as we all LOVE Indian cuisine. So to say it was a huge disappointment is an understatement. It took us 20 minutes to be seated(although there were several tables that would've been available if they had been cleared). Once we finally did get a table it was another 30 minutes until a waitress came to asked if we wanted water. When we did get to order the food was gross,no seasonings,and the presentation was lacking! When we voiced our concerns we were told it was because they were busy. I had lunch at Korma Sutra several months ago. One thing I will not deny is that the food is wonderful. When I left that day, I promised to NEVER go back. Well, my friends wanted to go today, so we went and had dinner. Again, I swear, I will NEVER go back. The food may be good but it is not worth the invasive and constant interruption by the owner, the server and the buslady. If you are going out to eat to enjoy some time with friends and have a conversation over a meal, forget it. It just won't happen in this restaurant. They are constantly bringing stuff, cleaning the table, taking plates that you are still using, dancing around...happy happy. BARF. I go out to eat to enjoy time with my friends. I would rather have food that is not as good and have the restaurant staff have some respect for the fact that I am not there to be huddled over and constantly harassed. I thought Perkins' waitstaff was bad at harassment. Korma Sutra completely puts Perkins to shame. As we were boxing up our leftovers, the buslady literally stood there, leaning over our table, with her hand out waiting for my friend to finish boxing her meal. After our leftovers were boxed up, and I again tried to talk to my companions, here she came again and leaned over washing the table (although it wasn't dirty). I truly felt like screaming at them to get the heck out of our faces! ' If I ever desire food from this restaurant, I will order it as take-out. I promise to NEVER go there again. Oh...and all the mysterious charges on our bill? I have no clue what the extra $20 in charges was for, but I wanted out of there so badly, I just paid so I could leave. Next time, I will go to Ruchi. If you want the full eating out experience this is the place. The good is full of flavor. The fresh mango smoothie is amazing, the fresh hot bread is the best. That's not what makes it. Kudos to the staff, it starts with the amazing owner working the the room. His support staff has something special, intuition. I have been eating Indian cuisine now for the past 12 years or so and I love it. In fact, we were on a Mediterranean cruise last year and at lunch, there was always at least 4-6 different Indian dishes with basmati rice and I always loaded up on it. I visited a magnificent Indian buffet in Montréal in 2004 that still lingers in my mind as one of my best Indian experiences. But, I happened to be discussing with my sister where she wanted to eat for her birthday and she immediately responded with KORMA SUTRA! And that's where we went. There is also a Korma Sutra in Westport. The one I'm writing about is in Overland Park off of 111th Street off College Boulevard and Metcalf. When you first walk into the joint, it looks a bit cramped and crowded but that's because the place is full of hungry, happy diners. There is a loud affable man (must be an owner or manager) who boisterously greets you at the door and guides you to your table. I was half hour late having made the mistake of hitting the wrong Korma Sutra. As I was whisked to my waiting seat by the happy host, I saw my family noshing on samosas and drinking chai and something called a mango lassi. The chai coffee was outstanding and the mango lassi was intriguing! Like a secret and forbidden tryst, the spices and the tangy flavor of the fresh mango juice tantalize your tastebuds and at first, you're not quite sure what it is but that it is surprisingly refreshing, rich and overwhelmingly delicious! Then came the food. Unfortunately, I am not yet experienced in naming the variety of dishes I sampled that afternoon. All I know is that the flavoring is unique, exotic and exciting. Oh so delicious. Nothing burned or tough or offensively hot or sour or bitter although there are mixtures of all those flavors (except for offensively hot, burned and tough) in just the right proportions to give each dish its uniqueness. Indian food is sensual to me. Maybe because of the exotic combination of unusual spices from faraway lands, a cuisine to which we are not accustomed and that we have not yet forced to conform to American tastes as we have with Mexican and Italian cuisine. At any rate, a visit to Korma Sutra is a visit to a culinary paradise where one will find an abundance of tender and savory meats, savory, rich sauces, vegetables prepared in ways one might never have imagined and seasoned in a manner that takes the boredom some people experience when eating vegetables. I feel sorry for people who are too timid or narrow-minded about foreign cuisine. I know one cannot miss what one does not know but still...I think of how sad I would be if I were to find out how delectable Indian cuisine is and here I am on my death bed...never to savor such ecstasy again! It is without a doubt that we will visit Korma Sutra again soon. read more

I've been to the Korma Sutra in Wesport (Kansas City, MO). When comparing the two, there are pros and cons to this Overland Park location. I think the two locations have very different atmospheres that cater to different kinds of people. However, before I get to that, I have to lay the bottom line: the food at the Wesport location is the clear winner in comparison. The garlic naan at the O. Park location is more dense and less elastic, which I don't like. I also feel that the food at the O. Park location is less flavorful and has different consistencies than the one in Westport. I could be biased since I tried the Wesport location first, but I feel that the sauces at the Westport location have a better consistency; it's more of a creamy sauce, whereas the O. Park location has more... gooey sauces? It could have been just that particular day, but I usually like to think that good restaurants should be consistent in how they serve their food anyway. Also, the Westport location keeps their buffet lines stocked a bit better. The O. Park buffet is so busy that sometimes you have to wait for certain items to get refilled. Now on to the atmospheres. The O. Park location is VERY boisterous. The servers are constantly bustling around, and the main server (which looked like he could have been the manager as well) even sings! Which... is not really my style when I'm eating, but I can definitely see how that could cater to families that like that kind of thing or couples who want to have a great story to tell, etc. It's loud, busy, slightly chaotic. The service is alright, but if you don't like the servers reaching across you to hand spicy naan to the person next to you, making loud talk to you while you're trying to eat, or singing if you want "happy beer," this place is NOT the place for you. In my opinion, I prefer the quieter atmosphere of the Westport location. The Westport location does have less attentive staff (you really have to flag them down as they walk past your table-- be assertive!), but if you can get over that, the food there beats the O. Park location. I think the O. Park location may be a smidge more expensive as well. read more

My first Indian buffet experience and it was delicious. Honestly, the owner there made this place a 5-star experience for me. I was on the verge of passing out with a food coma, and he comes up to me and gives me a balloon and tells me to go to sleep. So I did The tandoori chicken, goat curry and garlic naan were my personal favorites. Love the chai tea. They even gave us a handfull of naan and tea to go. YUM! I enjoy good food with lots of flavor. Indian is always a favorite choice. I have tried Korma Sutra at the Indian Festival, but this was my first time at the restaurant. Hands down, best Indian food in the area. We went for dinner and tried a few different things. All of them were good and full of flavor. We had a goat, lamb, and chicken dish and I would order them all again. We had the plain and garlic naan, the plain was preferred by me. The garlic didn't have much of a garlic taste and actually had a bit of a char taste. The meal ended with a rice dessert and chai tea. Both delicious. The service was great. The gentleman working, possibly the owner, was friendly and highly enjoyable! Quite the character. He makes dining here fun! If I had any complaints it would be that him and the lady working seemed to be working in circles, coming to ask us the same things. The restaurant was clean and the decor was good. A touch of India with a touch of the western world. I am excited to return and try the lunch buffet. read more

Can't beat the $13 lunch buffet with like 5 differently spiced chicken entrees. The owner is hilarious, full of energy, keeps the naan, mango lassis, and these pieces of pistachio ice cream on a stick flowing. I really appreciated that basically everything was included in the meal. Even the chai tea at the end. I thought everything tasted pretty authentic and of good quality. Would definitely come back. Serious kudos to the manager/owner? He wore balloons on his head and sang happy birthday to one of the patrons. We had a strange experience here actually. We ended up here for Sunday lunch, while we were given choice for Buffet or A-la-Carte and food was fairly good. The service was fairly fast and it was good, till the time I believe one of the owners decided to distribute some stuff to people in all of the tables. So, looks like there is a concept of "PRANKSTER FOOD" here. So, he distributed one thing called chocolate roll, which in fact was not SWEET, it was SPICYYY as HELL. (Trust me, coming from an Indian guy, that's like dumped with CHILLIs). The guys at my table were pissed as hell, they were like what the HELL is going on. Then at the end, he came around saying "SPICY" something, which happened to be SWEET. CAUTION: So, please ask what is in it, if he doesn't REVEAL ingredients then better to assume the worst. This man can never take a day off because who would blow up balloons for kids to keep them occupied with their parents, joke about sending you back home not starving and too skinny after you say you can't eat anymore, ask everyone if they're happy as soon as they walk in the door, and load you up with free desserts at the end of your meal?? Veggie korma is great, korma sutra korma is fantastic, there are just to many exceptional items on the lunch buffet to mention. The service is top notch and the owner who is extremely proud of his restaurant is always there with a welcoming smile. With consistent Zagat ratings of "Excellent" year after year, it's hard to stay away whenever I'm in KC. I will forever give this place five stars. I've been going to this location in their previous location for over a decade. I have fond memories of how kind they were when I was a single mom, giving balloons to my children. Giving them little bits of mango. They are always showering you with sweet, free little food gifts Whether you were in person or ordering takeout. I can't imagine a person receiving bad service here or receiving poor quality food. Everything is always hot and most is cooked to order. I especially like the butter chicken, the garlic naan-, the vegetable pakoras, and Anything with paneer because there's is particularly soft. Certainly when I lived on the East Coast I tasted "better" Indian food and saw a much wider variety of menu items, but this is Kansas and honestly the tried and true works here. With Korma Sutra, it's not just good food, it's a quality EXPERIENCE with this family owned restaurant. We are so lucky to have them here locally. read more

I just wish he'd let me walk away from my table without taking the leftover naan with me. I'm fairly new to Indian food, but Korma is the best I've had. My sister and I ate here twice when I first moved to KCK. The food was so good I thought I had an Indian grandmother cooking in the kitchen! The wait staff were wonderful, entertaining and so gracious. I felt like I was home. They offered what I thought were "extras" or "freebies" but there was a charge in the end. The second visit these "extras" were actually free or on the house. I've read the same thing happen to other reviewers. I suggest that if you're on a tight budget then be aware of your bill charges. Appetizers: I love cheese, so you know I ordered the Paneer Naan, & loved. it. Second visit I tried the coconut soup and found heaven! It was light, yet creamy & smooth, not too sweet. Entrees: I tried the Lamb Marsala on 1st visit, then Chicken Korma on 2nd visit, my sister loved the Chicken Tikka Saag so much she ordered it on both visits. For both visit we had a 3rd entree which we split, the waiter/owner jokingly called it "No Name" (I later found out it was Butter Chicken). Drinks: No liquor or wine here, I think they had beer. If not counting calories, try the Chai Tea and Mango Lassi. We knew the Mango Lassi was fattening because it was so good, so we limited to 2 glasses. The Chai tea put anything we ever 'thought' was Chai tea to shame, they could tell we loved it so much and gave us several to-go cups for the road. Dessert: To finish they gave us a sampling of a dessert I can't pronounce or recall much except it had pistachios, some honey???, and had the consistency of rice pudding. I can't fairly rate this because I'm convinced that when it comes to dessert only Americans or Europeans get it right! I've genuinely tried other cultures "interpretation" of "dessert" & it just does NOT "translate" well. Which is probably why the people of these fine countries with horrible desserts are way healthier than us. But I digress... Korma Sutra Overland Park is the best, I can't wait till my sis comes back into town because this will be our KCK dinner spot. The owner of this restaurant understands the definition of Hospitality. It doesn't matter if I am getting a quick carry out order or dining in, I am always warmly greeted. The food is fresh, and always consist. Last night, what we thought was going to be a quick Wednesday dinner turned into a fully coursed meal complete with our hands rinsed table side with fresh lime and warm water. On our way out the door, a gent brought us a wrapped up bundle of butter chicken, jasmine rice and hot naan to take home. The cons? This location is a bit on the small side. We waited ninety minutes with two tired, hungry children, watching order after order go out for carry-out while we were ignored. Finally, I tracked down the manager and asked for the food to go, but when we got it home we found that we didn't get what we ordered, and what we did get was inedible! Had food delivered. 2 hours to receive the food. Man on the phone was very rude and would not listen to what I had to say. The delivery driver said he got lost. How do you get lost going to a popular hotel??? Perhaps if the guy who took my order over the phone would have listened to me as I gave him the address then the driver wouldn't have gotten "lost". In my adventures in Overland Park on a recent trip, I met a good friend and her boyfriend here at the Korma Sutra Indian restaurant. It was near my hotel on Metcalf Avenue, so it was a good thing that it was recommended it to me by my friend. It had been a while since having Indian cuisine, so it was good to get in those exotic food while out on vacation anyway. I thought that this place was very good, the service was good, the host was very happy / excited to see us, and the food was above expectations. Definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves Indian cuisine and is near Overland Park KS or in the Kansas City vicinities. Korma Sutra Indian cuisine is located on XX 110th Street off Metcalf Avenue in Overland Park, KS, in a shopping complex. Lot was kind of easy to find, especially when you get lost trying to find your hotel. This place had many positive reviews on yelp, so it was necessary that I see what was up here. They take credit cards, so that was simply amazing, as always. There was ample parking here, so that wasn't really an issue. We came here on a recent Monday evening. It wasn't too packed up and we got seated right away. On that day, we got a table on the left side of the restaurant, where there was a pink ballon was tide above the lighting fixture. None of the other tables had such balloons. Weird. The place was clean and the ambiance was nice, although the owner and his wife was busy, this place can be quiet at times for good casual dining. The conversation and company was excellent as always. It was cute that the owner was kind of hyper or trying to be funny. Or it seemed that's how it was received to me. A little too hyper for his own good. It was funny though. I had ordered the lamb curry, which came with white rice. Along with the cheese naan, we also ordered Indian beer, which tasted slightly like apple cider. It was quite interesting, but it was alright, I guess. Got the lamb curry hot, which was not that spicy, to be honest. Mixed with the basmati rice provided, it was a sinful array of flavors that would be a good in any time. The lamb came with the bones, so it wasn't really okay with biting into it and it was hard. The nan wasn't dry or hard, but it was just right. The restaurant was smaller than I had thought, but it was a cozy place to dine. All of us enjoyed our experience here, since it was our first time here. My friend told me she would consider coming here more, since she lives in Prairie Village. The pricing is not too bad, but it's definitely up there. $11-$16 average for an entree.
