This has now turned into one of our favorite restaurants...I am in LOVE with this restaurant. We went as a small group and all kind of shared to try everything. . Avgolemono soup surprisingly addicting (dip your pita), spanakopita...a heavenly Greek lasagna, their slovakis are SO tender and seasoned incredibly!, the shrimp scampi...THE SHRIMP SCAMPI!!!....best shrimp I have ever had HANDS DOWN, the rice was so good we had to ask for two side orders to go, the dolmas and mousaka can be an acquired taste but really good, and the gyro meat was so tender and tasty. I wish we lived closer because we'd be frequent flyers. As for the staff, our waiter was super friendly, answered any and all the questions we had (wish we would have gotten his name). Also noticed smiles on everyone else there, glasses were never empty. Seems like a close knit run place. Can't wait to go back, try some new things while bringing home some of our favs. read more

I had never tried this location, but let me say I was not disappointed. This location was just as great as the one on Greenville. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was cozy and clean. The food was well seasoned and I enjoyed every bite of my lamb gyro. I asked for extra onions and that made it perfect. The pita bread was soft and succulent. The Greek potatoes are soft and very flavorful. Overall I had a great experience. I left happy and full. I highly recommend trying them for some delicious Greek food. The only negative is the Greek salad was a little boring. It could be revamped and presentation could be better. The gyro sandwich or open plate has wonderful presentation. I've only ever ordered the gyro sandwich for takeout, so this is a pretty limited review. But it's a great sandwich, with just the right flavors and amount of meat and toppings. The pita is always warm and soft, I usually order an extra. I really like the potatoes that are included, also. Though everywhere was very nice and attentive as I ordered to-go, had been expecting an amazing meal when I fished out $30for basically an appetizer combo and hummus. Everyhtnjg was over cooked and mushy like cafeteria food. I've never had such bland and watery hummus. There wasn't a hint of fresh lemon or parsley to be found here. My wife and I have been going to Kostas since probably before we were married. It's a great date place with great food and a nice quiet atmosphere. Service is more on the European side - meaning that it's going to be paced a bit slower than you might expect - but is fantastic if you're looking for a relaxed meal. It isn't a matter of losing your waiter or anything - just that you actually get courses and you aren't rushed into finishing your salads before your entree comes... The food is fantastic. Their dolmas are the standard by what we judge all others and so far no one has come close. These are warm dolmas that are more like meatballs - rather than the cold ones that are served at some places... It's kind of hard to choose what to order now - since we've tried everything on the menu and everything is so good. They just know what the heck they're doing. We especially like the Kostas Combo - but it's a lot of food. The steak and scallops is a great choice too. The lamb is always fantastic - though they can be on the small side - so if you have a big appetite - order something else or a combo. The coffee is great with baklava - which is also the standard by which we judge all others. It's just a great place with familiar faces every time you go in. It's a family place that serves great food... The ONLY gripe I have is - I wish they had a bit more in terms of veggies/sides. read more

The place was pretty empty when we arrived so I'm assuming most of their business is done in the evenings. Although I'm not the biggest fan of dimly lit restaurants for lunch, this place exceeded my expectations. I got the lamb shank special for $11.99, which came with a soup or salad, complimentary bread, and the shank which was supposed to be on a bed of rice and smothered in spinach. I requested no rice. The shank was so tender and juicy, the meat slid right off the bone and mixed with the spinach in a wonderful way. This dish was so comforting, I was hardly hungry but finished the whole thing. Had an unexpectedly amazing dinner with my hubby tonight. We went to Kostas to have our usual Greek food, him a gyro and me moussaka...instead we tried something different. To our delight , it was THE best food we have had eating out in a very long time. He got the lamb chops with shrimp scampi, and I ordered the scallops. The seafood was cooked perfectly!!! Delish!! The lamp chops were good as any aged meat that I have had- amazingly tender, with just the right amount of spice. The owner came over and suggested a beer for us to try since we had already ordered the Mythos, so we then tried FIX which was great! I've been dying to try Kostas and finally got my chance today. My friend and I came early to beat the lunch rush and were the first customers in the building. Sadly, we were the only customers during our entire meal. The ambience is adorable for dinner, but is maybe a little dark for lunch. My friend even commented that she felt like she was in The Sopranos. Italy...Greece. At least they're next door to each other, right? We decided to start with the hummus appetizer platter. Unfortunately, we never got it. But we did get some really yummy bread and asked for more when we finished off the first basket. I ordered the Gyro Platter and my friend ordered the Chicken Souvlaki, both $8.95. Both entrees come with your choice of salad or Avgolemono soup, vegetables and rice or potatoes. I chose the soup, she chose salad and we both chose potatoes. My soup was probably some of the best Avgolemono soup I've ever had. It was perfectly lemony with a generous portion of rice that gave it a wonderful texture. My friend's salad looked pretty tasty and I was almost jealous that I didn't choose the salad. Almost. We were both very happy with our entrees. The vegetable was cooked spinach and even though neither one of us usually care for cooked spinach, this spinach was wonderful. The potatoes were also pretty yummy, lemony in that special Greek way. My gyro was absolutely the best I've had in Dallas, as was the tzatziki sauce. Up to now I was pretty sure that Zorba's offers the best Greek in Plano, but I just found a replacement. Not only is Kostas more tasty than Zorba's, it's cheaper. And you get more for your buck. Can't beat that. When it came time to pay, we handed over our $5 coupon from the website (that also had a 10% off the entire meal coupon). When our waiter returned our bill, we thought he had mistakenly used the 10% coupon instead of the $5 coupon and called him on it. He told us that the $5 coupon wasn't allowed at lunch. We scoffed at this but paid the bill and planned on checking when we returned to work. The funny thing is, when we checked, we didn't qualify for either coupon. And he gave it to us anyway. Our bad, dude. We totally forgive you for forgetting our hummus. Don't worry, Kostas, we'll be back. And we'll leave our fraudulent coupon at work next time. read more

I love this place! The food is amazing and a great value. Their soups and salads are wonderful, and I highly recommend the chicken.

It's shocking that this place has 4 stars. I ordered the lamb wrap sandwich, and it was so atrociously mediocre, I nearly cried. The lamb was dry and absolutely flavorless. The pita is decent quality, but it's a little pathetic if that's the only redeeming factor of the dish. The wrap comes with a side of potatoes that are seasoned alright, but they're cold, mushy, and far too oily. Meh. It's been a long time coming to try Kostas, it's been years that I had wanted to try. I ordered to go and after having the food to go, my next step is to eat in, because if it was this good to go, I can only imagine how much better it is when you are there and the food is piping hot. The moussaka was literally better than most of the moussaka in Greece. The grilled shrimp was amazing. Potatoes, amazing! The awesome thing about this meal is that it didn't weigh you down. This is my favorite greek restaurant in DFW. The owner cooks daily, recipes from his grandmothers kitchen. My friend ordered the Saganaki and when they flambayed it at the table we all shouted Opa! It was very festive and attracted the attention of everyone in the restaurant. We both ordered the Gyro sandwich and it came with potatoes. Their greek potatoes are delicious, very lemony and tender. Bad vibes all around. Im not sure how this place has an average of four stars. The moment I pulled up to the parking lot, I should have known it as a problem that at 1:30 only one other car was there. The waiter seemed nice but he also wasnt very attentive. Not that this bothered me but it doesnt help with the lackluster food. I started off with two dips and pita bread. I asked the waiter if pita bread came with the dips for free, and he said yes, but when I received the bill, he charged me 1.29. This isnt much but I specifically spent three minutes clarifying whether the bread was free, since it said dips only. The pita bread was actually pretty good, especially since it was warm and fluffy. The tzatizi sauce was pretty and I was eating mostly that. The hummus is odd. Probably the oddest hummus Ive had. It had an unusual flavor, lik navy beans dashed with a smoked fish flavor. It wasnt bad but it certainly wasnt good. In between the appetizer and entree they brought out the salad. It was a mediocre salad, with sub par vegetables and doused in dressing. I ate about half of it and couldnt eat anymore. It reminded me of Babe's Chicken salads and their italian dressing. Its not what I expected and it really spelled out things to come. I ordered the greek combo and it came with a good amount of variety. When it arrived, I felt like I was being cheated. Everything was bite size and did not justify the 17 dollars they charge after tax. The only items I enjoyed were the souvlaki and shrimp. The souvlaki had a nice pork flavor, and was actually tender. The shrimp was standard but sastifying. The sad part was I received one piece of souvlaki and two medium sized shrimp. I understand there are other items, but it was underwhelming in proportion. I could have received the same thing if I walked around Sams Club and lurched over the sampling carts. Everything else I was served was either bad or subpar. The one piece of chicken was stringy and a bit dry. The moussaka came off more like meatloaf. Not much seasoning or love in it. The spinach pie was weird tasting. It was super earthy in flavor, and the bottom soggy as if they microwaved it. The beef stuffed dolmas tasted like corned beef, which I though was ok but that wasnt the flavor I was expecting. The dolma was big in size but not that great. The veggies were clearly from a can. No love in the making of the green beans and potatoes. The more I think about this place, the less I feel inclined to ever come back. I really dont understand why people like this place. Maybe I should just order the gyro, but even then, why bother when so many other places do a better job all around. read more

Was in town on a work trip. I was incredibly impressed by by this restaurant. It has a warm, family-run atmosphere but is also well appointed and excellent in its presentation. The food was incredibly good. Not heavy but filling! I don't have access to good quality sit-down Greek cuisine in my city so this was a great find on a trip away from home. This place does it right. Greek food that is authentic and not as expensive as its competitor Zorbas. The appetizer you will want to try here is the Saganaki. It uses 4 different Greek cheeses, melted in the frying pan and lemon juice and pepper. The waiter will shout Opa! after he lights the cheese on fire. The cheese tastes great when eaten with their bread. A unique change from your everyday appetizer. I got a gyro sandwich and their meat is excellent here. Moist and juicy with each bite mixed with tomato, onions and their tzatziki sauce. This is my go to place if i'm craving Greek food. read more

We came here Sunday at about 5:45pm during the ice storm. No one was there and they were discussing closing for the evening due to the weather however they offered the place to us for dinner if we'd like. We asked if they were certain as it was no issue to let them close but they insisted so we stayed. They took great care of us and we had the place all to ourselves. Very unassuming place from the road. The interior is a surprise as once in the doors it's a nice little romantic place! We ordered a bottle of wine at the servers suggestion which was excellent. The appetizer was the tzatziki with warm pita bread. We both agreed this was very good. We both ordered the Athenian Combo: Lamb Chomps, Broiled Scampi & Souvlaki. The lamb was AMAZING and so very tender I wanted more. The shrimp were good as well as the pork but after tasting the lamb these were no match. WOW! I never thought I would say this, but the service last Friday (5/12/17) was awful... Hands down terrible. The food was still good as always, but the service was the worst we have ever experienced there. We normally have the tall, thin waiter - this time it was a younger kid. He could not get it right- and what's worse- he didn't care. We were with my parents or I would have confronted him at the table myself. My dad had to ask for iced tea 5 times and bread 4 times before anything was ever brought out. He would come to one table, do one thing, go back in the kitchen or wait area and stand there... Learn to bring everything to each table each time, or heck, bring everything to all tables at once. We asked for bread and tea, 3 trips later he might bring bread or tea, but never both... Very disappointed, we picked Kosta's for the great service and it was awful. We have been going there for a very long time- will have to think twice before we go again.... read more

I love Greek food and was excited to try Kostas Cafe, but the dollar to portion ratio here left me with a bad aftertaste. I was hungry as I'd skipped breakfast due to be busy so I got the Athenian Combo which has Lamb Chops, Broiled Scampi & Souvlaki (substituted pork for chicken). When I got my plate, I had two shrimp, two pieces of chicken kebab, and two maybe dollar coin sized pieces of lamb chop. I wasn't expecting an entire chicken or seas worth of shrimp, but 2? Really? You'd think I was given the kids meal, I'd ordered of a tasting menu as a mistake, or they'd run out of food and they were giving me whatever they had left. They tasted okay, but didn't have that wow factor to make up for how little food was served. Whatever the case was (and not to sound like a broken record), I was extremely pissed that I paid 18 + tax + tip for that little food. I left hungry, and and ended up grabbing a sandwich and a bag of chips to fill up which I could've done in the first place without driving out to Plano and spending 20+ on lunch. I don't see myself coming back here as there are better Greek restaurants out there in DFW. read more
