honestly a hysterical situation here but please read their low reviews before ever thinking of coming here. To keep it short: 1.5 hours to get seated and to order , within that time span, we received 1 order of a sushi roll.... long story: first off theirs no check in system, you just have to tell the 1 waiter they had running around you are here and they will call u. No official waitlist. took a while to get us seated but once we did, we had to ask for cups, plates, chopsticks and sauce trays... basically 0 preparation. we finally placed our order in, and were ready to eat. After 30-45 mins, we only received some of the small sides we ordered as well, which honestly tasted frozen/microwaved. after more time I asked the waiter to check on our order. To our surprise it wasn't even prepared.. the chef at the bar apologized while the waitress keep trying to make excuses. Since it was 30 mins til close with basically no sushi we decided to pay for what we received and leave. The waitress tried to persuade us to stay. I said we are hungry and will go elsewhere, where she said "you will wait longer to eat any other place you go to". After I said I don't mind I just don't wanna eat here, she rolled her eyes. She asked the chef what they should do, while he said they can just comp it. I insisted I can pay for what we did eat, but the chef said it was fine, because we barely did eat anything. such unjustified attitude from the waiter with 0 accountability. I understand places get busy and their are many tables to attend to but to not even check up on your tables orders when their is 0 sushi being sent out is crazy. The 1 roll we did eat was super underwhelming so maybe im glad we didn't eat anything else. Also I kind of overheard the waiter tell her coworker "there is no more fish, are you going to tell them".. which by the looks of it they probably were out since we did not receive any.

This was by far the worst sushi buffet experience I've ever had. The food tasted spoiled and had a garbage-like smell. When I told the waitress, she dismissed it and suggested maybe I'm "picky" and should just add lemon to fix the smell. Even the roe on some sushi tasted bitter. We were told we could order three rounds and advised to order the limited "special" items in the first round -- which we did. Unfortunately, they were all terrible. The octopus was rubbery and tough like leather. The sushi rice tasted old and stale. The seaweed around the rolls was clearly pre-wrapped long ago and smelled rotten. Some of the fish even had a yellowish color from sitting too long. We couldn't even finish the first round and told them we were still hungry but the food was inedible. They still charged us extra for uneaten items as a "buffet penalty," which almost doubled our bill. The portions weren't large -- they were just bad. To make things worse, there was a sign in the restroom asking customers not to throw food away and instead admit they couldn't eat it, which made it feel like they expect this to happen and profit from it. I've tried sushi at many places across Orange County and have never experienced anything this bad. We left still hungry, with a terrible aftertaste. Even after washing my hands multiple times, they smelled like garbage, and I later got nausea and diarrhea. Absolutely would not recommend.

The rice to fish ratio is the best! Fish is fresh! They also have happy hour M-Th for $24.95 but that only applies to a certain menu mostly rolls. Lunch AYCE is 33.95 and Dinner AYCE is 38.95

This review isn't about the food, but the inconsistencies in their service/information. I called on Sunday, January 18, 2026 to confirm with a nice lady over the phone that they are keeping their regular lunch AYCE pricing on January 19, 2026 - MLK Day. I wanted to make sure that my coworkers and I are not walking into some special holiday pricing, so I made sure to confirm that the day prior. To my disappointment, I showed up right at opening on MLK day and the gentleman who was wiping the window on the door said it is only dinner/Premium pricing all day. I was pissed, annoyed, and embarrassed while apologizing to my co-workers who was expecting to pay the regular pricing. We left and I don't want to return because I'm pretty taken back by this.

A pretty good deal for their lunch happy hour. But expect the mediocre freshness of some things. The service can be more improved, they're a little clueless about the menu. The rice is also a little questionable. I don't think they used Japanese sushi rice for it, it's just me. But two stars for the lunch deal. But it definitely fills the stomach. Not for the sophisticated sushi clientele!

Absolutely delicious all you can eat sushi for under $40, something unheard of these days! Highly recommend recommended!

We tried Koyi Sushi after watching an Instagram reel about all the various rolls and fish on the menu! The restaurant is relatively small with almost entirely indoor seating including a sushi bar and standard booths and tables. When we were there, one server managed the customers while two chefs worked behind the bar, so this made service a little slow sometimes. The menu itself has some pretty decent items but nothing that really blew our socks off: our favorites were by far the magnolia roll, cajun tuna sushi, burrito roll, salmon, eel, and baked green mussels! We also tried the salmon skin salad, samurai roll, shrimp sushi, tuna sushi, albacore sushi, and several other rolls. I enjoyed our visit here, but I wouldn't say the fish quality and service were worth the price we paid for AYCE ($38.95 per person).

My husband and I came here for weekday AYCE lunch and were impressed by the food quality, flavors, and service. Though the restaurant doesn't have much seating, we only had to wait a few minutes for them to clean a table and seat us. Our food came out fast and I got to have my favorites like calamari, eel handrolls, and salmon nigiri. The mango salad was also tasty. We noticed that although the rules state they will charge for excess food, the waitress was kind not to charge a group of teenage boys next to us who over-ordered and were so terrified that they couldn't finish their food. That's great hospitality.

One of my biggest pet peeves about certain sushi joints is the rice is too cold. Koyi rice temperature on the rolls were on point and I was so happy. Thank you for getting the basics correct. I enjoyed the happy hour special. Variety was good enough to pick and choose hopefully even for those picky roll eaters.

Slimey and old fish. Absolute rip off. Would avoid. Infinitely better options around Costa Mesa.

    The Kiss Roll

Great all-you-can-eat sushi place with fresh food, fast service, and a huge variety of rolls. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was clean and comfortable. Definitely worth the price!

Perfect casual spot to grab sushi with friends & family. Parking: Free parking lot. Easy to find a spot. Ambiance/Environment: It's a very casual spot. They have a medium sized space with a decent amount of indoor seating. You can choose to sit at the bar or table. Service: Everyone was courteous, quick, & efficient! The server checked on me a few times ensuring if I needed anything. Since I sat at the bar, the sushi chefs were also making conversations with me. Foods: Their fish was fresh, smooth, and delicious! I absolutely enjoyed everything! I saw they're most popular for the Lemon Peppered Salmon. I can agree, now I know why it's so popular. My favorite rolls are the Mango Salmon special roll. The mango sauce was sooo good! It was a tad sweet but balanced well with the salmon. Although the bluefin tuna was limited per person, it was so delicious. 1. Diablo Roll (special rolls) 2. Mango Salmon Roll (special rolls) 3. Magnolia (no rice rolls) 4. Salmon Skin (hand rolls) 5. Popcorn Crawfish (baked & tempura rolls) 6. Mango Avocado Salad 7. Peppered Salmon (sushi) 8. Ikura (sushi) 9. Bluefin Tuna (sushi) 10. Jalapeño Bomb (appetizer) Pricing: Definitely worth its AYCE price! There's so many options in each category. I only lasted 1.5 rounds lol.

    Michelle N.

Another AYCE Sushi discovery! This place is $40/person with quite a few options. My favorite was the Salmon nigiri because the fish practically melted in your mouth. I noticed the rice to fish ratio was pretty good and worth it. There weren't as many options as I'd like here, but it gets the job done. Service was quick for a party of 5! Disregard the environment they're located in and you'll have yourself a decent meal.

Truly, whoever designed this space deserves their own Michelin star. Now... the food. The shrimp dumplings were fine. The shrimp were a respectable size, no complaints there, but "fine" and "memorable" are very different zip codes, and these stayed firmly in the former. The garlic noodles arrived looking a little lonely (small portion) with noodles that were slightly past their ideal moment of glory, accompanied by 4 whole shrimp. For $55. I'll let that marinate. The filet mignon dumpling was probably the highlight of the food lineup, genuinely decent, though it leaned a touch salty, like the seasoning had big ambitions. Still totally edible, just not the refined experience the price tag implies. On the bright side, the service was solid and shoutout to my server who steered me toward a pear martini that was, honestly, a little gem of a drink. They clearly know their cocktails. Bottom line: come for the atmosphere, stay for a cocktail, and maybe grab dinner somewhere else after. It's a gorgeous spot for pre-drinks and photos, just don't arrive hungry with high culinary expectations. Your wallet will thank you.

After pursuing some options in the Newport/Huntington Beach area, I decided to make 8:30 pm reservations for Starfish in Newport Beach! I have driven past this location so many times, and was excited to finally try it out! Upon entering, I was impressed by the moody interior with beautiful lighting and a gorgeous wooden door. The hostess was kind and quick to offer us a two-top bar style seating table that was close to the kitchen. We appreciated that we were sat so promptly, and we actually enjoy sitting close to the kitchen so we could see all of the deletable food options! We began our meal with two rolls as appetizers - the Buddha roll and the Sushi Nigiri Plate. The Buddha roll was a tofu-based vegan roll with a fun touch of toasted coconut flakes and two delicious sauces layered on top. Both my boyfriend and I loved the roll and would absolutely order it again. My boyfriend loved the sashimi plate and stated that the seafood was fresh and was higher in quality compared to your average sushi restaurant. Moving onto our main course, I ordered the Thai Green Vegetable Curry with coconut rice (which our server mentioned was different from the regular white rice because they cook it with coconut milk instead of water) and my boyfriend was craving another sushi roll, so he opted for the Shrimp Tempura Roll. The Shrimp Tempura Roll was pleasantly different from regular shrimp tempura rolls, because it contained crab meat and shrimp tempura. We noticed at this point, that all three of the sushi rolls that we ordered used rice paper instead of seaweed, and this unique twist to the sushi rolls enhanced them! I LOVED the presentation of the Thai Green Vegetable Curry. Something about a large stem of basil cascading over my food makes it extra fun to eat! In all seriousness, this was one of the best curry's I have had, and the coconut rice enhanced the entree. For our beverage selection, the cold sake that we hoped to try was out of stock, so we requested hot sake instead, which we sipped on through the meal. Pro Tip: the hot house sake was only $10 which is an amazing price point! Finally, it came to my favorite part of the meal, dessert! My boyfriend was leaning towards the Scratch Cheesecake, and I was leaning towards the Mango Pudding. We asked for our server for her recommendation, and she stated that the Banana in Fillo Dough or Scratch Cheesecake were her top two options. Based on this, we opted for the Scratch Cheesecake. It was good, but I probably wouldn't get it again. In my mind, I think of a cheesecake and immediately crave a thick slice of a classic New York style cheesecake. However, this was served in a glass with a graham cracker crumble as the base, and a cheesecake-style mousse layer above, with poached asian pears as a topping. While this wasn't my favorite part of the meal, it was still a fun twist on a classic dessert with a lovely presentation. Next time, I think I'll follow my heart and try the Mango Pudding. Between the food, ambiance, wonderful service, and elevated experience for an affordable price point, we will definitely return!

Know where you're aiming to go. - There is a sister restaurant named Mono Yama two doors down ...cue to me walking in between aimlessly because my friend recommended the place and all i recalled was "momo". That said, the people were super nice in both places. You can tell it happens often. We went right as it opened, and we got seated right away. The menu is via a QRC on the table. We ordered 3 things - vongole pasta. Previously they offered it uni but this one had claims and shrimp. We also got the pesto and the calamari. Calamari was crispy but it also was slightly too salty and seemed to be a lot of batter. The calamari pieces were small. The pesto pasta was okay, but the pesto wasn't the traditional pesto. I couldn't put my finger on it but it must've been the dashi. The udon was cooked well though. Soft, definitely not al dente. This vongole was the biggest miss. It had a taste that we also couldn't figure out, but it was not enjoyable to eat. We left the meal very dissatisfied. The friend I went with, who has gone before, also agreed it was disappointing. As someone who hates to waste food, we were very close to leaving nearly half of each dish there. My friend ended up taking it back. Later that evening, we both were feeling off. Idk, perhaps it was a coincidence. In the end, it was a truly sad experience.
