    Assorted nigiri
    Jason S.

We had dinner here the other night. There is a small parking lot available. The restaurant itself is quite small and can fill up quickly. This is easily one of my favorite restaurants and sushi restaurants in the OC. The quality here is unbelievable. They get fresh fish deliveries 6 days a week. We let Chef Chris create whatever he wanted for us. It might be my go-to order on my next visit. We started with ceviche. They take nori and deep fry it into a chip. The shrimp, octopus and vegetables piled on top were not only generous but absolutely delicious. A great and refreshing way to start off the meal. Then came the nigiri. The Toro melted in our mouths. The sushi rice uses a red vinegar that makes you just want to enjoy the nigiri as is. Do not add any shoyu to it. That would be a huge injustice to the nigiri. The jumbo scallops, the A5 wagyu, the Saba, the red snapper, yes everything we got was unreal. The freshness and the flavors were incredible. We also got some rolls. The A5 wagyy roll was so good. The toro roll just reminded me that you can never have roo much toro. The blue crab roll was a rice-less roll and just stuffed with blue crab. One of the best sushi meals I have ever had. The prices are really reasonable for the quality that you get. The service was also fantastic. I cannot wait to go again.

Yum found this place off of a random tik tok and I'm so glad I did. It's perfect because it's right across from my lash place. You can taste the quality of the fish and you can't beat the prices. Each nigiri was so delicious, the rolls are huge, and the sushi chefs were so cool. I'm surprised it wasn't more packed on a Friday night. We will definitely be back!

Came here for lunch on a Friday and it wasn't too bad. This place is located in a corner plaza so parking can get tight and of course people can't drive for shit. The ambiance is a very cozy feel and the service is good. The cool part is seeing the chefs cook in front of you when they make the rolls. The matcha drink is trash don't get it. 0/5. The peach tea is lit. 5/5. The Wagyu roll was amazing. Lots of flavors and I almost got full off one roll. The Wagyu literally just melts in your mouth. 5/5. The geisha roll wasn't bad. I don't think I was a fan of the cream cheese. But overall it was good. 3.9/5. The coolest is seeing the nigiri all 50% off. We got a bunch. It was great. Fresh seafood too. 5/5. Def a spot to come check out

Looking for a sushi spot near the hotel my family was staying at. I asked for a recommendation from staff at the front desk at the hotel and they were no help. So I looked on Yelp and found this spot with 4 1/2 stars. Sushi District did not disappoint. Jay our server was kind & helpful. Jay explained that the Sushi pieces are 50% off and Sushi Rolls are 20% off. We ordered the following items: Salmon Sushi, Squid Sushi, Alaskan Roll, Spider Roll, Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna, Shrimp Tempura & Spicy Garlic Edamame. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. The parking is packed. So we parked down the street by Chipotle and walked to Sushi District.

I am soo happy I found this sushi spot, it is incredible! Great ambiance, amazing service, and the nigiri cuts are amazing! Their fish is so fresh, it melts in your mouth. I highly recommend anyone to come here you will not be disappointed! My wife and I ordered: Salmon Belly 5/5 Toro 5/5 Yellowtail belly 5/5 Aji 5/5 Wagyu 4/5 Jumbo scallop 5/5 Spicy Scallop 3/5 Halibut 5/5 Black snapper 5/5 Salmon avacado roll 5/5 Escolar 5/5 Their rice is amazing moist and fresh! Can't wait to be back :)

I joined some friends that were visiting from out of town. We were here on a Monday night around 6pm and was immediately seated. There's more table vs sushi bar seating. Even though they didn't have salmon skin salad on the menu, they happily made it for us. Although I felt that it had too much dressing. Very reasonably priced sushi. The portion of the crispy rice spicy tuna was quite large where I thought it was too much rice for my liking. Near the end of our meal the chef gave us a bonus with a small bowl of mixed sashimi which was sweet of him

Beef bulgogi is mostly ONIONS -- not beef.

Do NOT order the beef bulgogi -- it's 75% just onions for the price of beef. Sesame chicken though it's so good!

Stopped by on a Friday night; they were packed and busy! I see this restaurant often passing through the area.Thought I finally give it a try! Lively and friendly atmosphere. I ended up ordering takeout instead. The wait was 30min for sushi. First impression-- the four rolls were nicely packaged. Overall, the sushi tasted fresh and tasty. They have a good amount of spicy rolls if you enjoy fiery flavors. Their sauces that accompanied the rolls were light, which is what I prefer over the deeper flavors of the dipping sauces. Rolls ordered: 1. Sexy Bluefin Tuna is my fav--I like the dipping sauce and the roll overall is unique. 2. Ya Ya Yellowtail- spicy on top of spicy on top of spicy haha ( I love it!). 3. Funky lemon salmon is light and citrusy light flavor. 4. Spicy tuna rainbow roll is a twist on regular rainbow roll, but the heat steps it up IMO. I'll definitely eat here again!

This spot has become our favorite go to sushi spot in OC. Every piece on nigiri melts in your mouth. The staff is great. Our waiter was friendly, helpful and attentive. This place is quickly becoming a weekly tradition. Must try for sushi lovers.

Came here to eat dinner on a weekend, waited for approximately 30 minutes before we were seated. Everything we ordered was good, especially the marinade on the Kura it was tasty! I loved it! Plenty of parking. Sushi chefs were so nice they gave us some complimentary sashimi!!!

Absolutely the best hidden gem in Costa Mesa. The food is top quality and the staff treat you like family (the ones you like). I can't recommend this place enough

This place is my go-to sushi spot. I've been coming here for like 3+ years now and even though it's super simple and not flashy, the sushi is always really fresh and solid. It's not one of those trendy places, but I actually prefer it that way. The rolls are fun and there's always something I end up ordering again. I have way too many pictures from here at this point because I keep going back. It's just one of those comfort spots for me!!!

    Carolina R.

I think I found our new favorite sushi spot in Costa Mesa. I found it when we were driving in the area and noted to come back. I went for a solo date night and spent about $20 on 4 pieces of sushi and a roll which was not bad at all and I left full. I then took my partner a month later for him to try it and he loved it. We got the black dragon roll which we loved and the golden tiger roll. They don't skimp on the fish and overall it was delicious and affordable. The staff is great too. Definitely recommend this place if you're looking for yummy sushi!

Service was attentive throughout the meal, with the staff checking in regularly without being intrusive. There was no lunch rush when we went, making for a nice, calm brunch atmosphere. The lychee lemonade came with unlimited refills, which was a nice bonus. It tasted how you'd expect from a classic lemonade with a noticeable lychee flavor, and had lychee pulp throughout. We ordered several dishes to share. The Calamari was a good appetizer. It had a light, crispy coating with good seasoning, and the dipping sauce paired nicely with it. We also tried the Carne Asada Fries, which were loaded with flavor. The meat was well-seasoned, and the sauces tied everything together without overwhelming the fries. The Garlic Noodles with filet were a solid choice. The noodles were flavorful, and the filet was cooked well, tender and juicy. The Fried Rice with Pork Jowl was probably my favorite dish. The pork jowl was rich, tender, and packed with flavor, and the fried rice complemented it really well, offsetting the fattiness. For being at South Coast Plaza, I thought the prices were fairly reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. It's not somewhere I can afford every week, but it's a great option when you're looking for a nicer lunch while shopping. I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu.

Open on holidays like July 4th, like a true Asian restaurant! Got the: 1. Cajun green beans ($14): 9/10, the lemon pepper butter sauce was scrumptious, I even wanted to add rice to it. -1 for green beans that are on the old side and the ends weren't chopped off. The corn nuts on top are meant to give a nice crunch, and while they tried to crush it, it's still too hard for my liking, so we mixed it with the sauce so it could soften up. 2. Seafood soup ($26): 7/10 and not worth the $26, as the swai fish is very little, you get only approx 4 shrimps, and the owner couldn't allow subbing calamari for more shrimp as he explained that the seafood is all pre-portioned out. The soup is very sour like Tom yum but it had too much lemongrass and was too sour for my liking. It came with 3 pieces of cucumber that could rival Ding Tai Fung and spicy sauce that seemed like their rendition of Lao gan ma. The price would've made me -1 but they get a +1 for the cucumber and Lao gan ma type spicy sauce, otherwise it would've been a 6/10 for me. 3. Mushroom & Beef Stir Fry ($23): 9/10, the beef reminds me of shaken beef and the sauce is very flavorful of beef. Love that the rice is delicious chicken rice, it's so addictive! If the mushroom was more umami it would take this up to a 10. 4. Garlic Noodles with Prawn ($22): 10/10, my second favorite on the menu (my fav is still the discontinued mushroom soup) and out of all the garlic noodles I've had, this is the best one. It's garlicky, the noodles are perfect texture, and the shrimp are large and crisp. I've been ordering garlic noodles at every Viet restaurant I've been to and haven't met a better executed one 5. For dessert, pistachio mouse cake ($12): 10/10, never knew pistachio and berries are a good combo but it was so mind blowing! The pistachios had the perfect crunch, and the wild berry sauce helped cut the richness of the cake. I only wish there was 2-3 more pieces of strawberry as it is the perfect accompaniment to cut the richness of the mouse cake. TLDR: summer menu is worth a go (minus the seafood soup) and please bring back the mushroom soup!!

After pursuing some options in the Newport/Huntington Beach area, I decided to make 8:30 pm reservations for Starfish in Newport Beach! I have driven past this location so many times, and was excited to finally try it out! Upon entering, I was impressed by the moody interior with beautiful lighting and a gorgeous wooden door. The hostess was kind and quick to offer us a two-top bar style seating table that was close to the kitchen. We appreciated that we were sat so promptly, and we actually enjoy sitting close to the kitchen so we could see all of the deletable food options! We began our meal with two rolls as appetizers - the Buddha roll and the Sushi Nigiri Plate. The Buddha roll was a tofu-based vegan roll with a fun touch of toasted coconut flakes and two delicious sauces layered on top. Both my boyfriend and I loved the roll and would absolutely order it again. My boyfriend loved the sashimi plate and stated that the seafood was fresh and was higher in quality compared to your average sushi restaurant. Moving onto our main course, I ordered the Thai Green Vegetable Curry with coconut rice (which our server mentioned was different from the regular white rice because they cook it with coconut milk instead of water) and my boyfriend was craving another sushi roll, so he opted for the Shrimp Tempura Roll. The Shrimp Tempura Roll was pleasantly different from regular shrimp tempura rolls, because it contained crab meat and shrimp tempura. We noticed at this point, that all three of the sushi rolls that we ordered used rice paper instead of seaweed, and this unique twist to the sushi rolls enhanced them! I LOVED the presentation of the Thai Green Vegetable Curry. Something about a large stem of basil cascading over my food makes it extra fun to eat! In all seriousness, this was one of the best curry's I have had, and the coconut rice enhanced the entree. For our beverage selection, the cold sake that we hoped to try was out of stock, so we requested hot sake instead, which we sipped on through the meal. Pro Tip: the hot house sake was only $10 which is an amazing price point! Finally, it came to my favorite part of the meal, dessert! My boyfriend was leaning towards the Scratch Cheesecake, and I was leaning towards the Mango Pudding. We asked for our server for her recommendation, and she stated that the Banana in Fillo Dough or Scratch Cheesecake were her top two options. Based on this, we opted for the Scratch Cheesecake. It was good, but I probably wouldn't get it again. In my mind, I think of a cheesecake and immediately crave a thick slice of a classic New York style cheesecake. However, this was served in a glass with a graham cracker crumble as the base, and a cheesecake-style mousse layer above, with poached asian pears as a topping. While this wasn't my favorite part of the meal, it was still a fun twist on a classic dessert with a lovely presentation. Next time, I think I'll follow my heart and try the Mango Pudding. Between the food, ambiance, wonderful service, and elevated experience for an affordable price point, we will definitely return!

I wonder if it's because there's bonito flakes in it or something like takoyaki? Scallop pesto pasta was AMAZING. Scallop is my fav seafood and I never had a creamy pesto before. Udon noodles were cooked perfectly. The skirt steak really surprised me. We asked for medium rare and nice never had a skirt steak that tender. The broccolini tasted very charred and smoky (in a good way). It complimented the meat so well. Miso bacon carbonara was a solid choice and we also got that last time. Can't go wrong with it. The wings though were standard fish sauce wings. The slaw was a bit too vinegary or sour for me. Can't wait to come back the next time!
