Worth it for the curry rice with tonkatsu, which is so tasty and fresh. However, the service is pretty slow. Expect to wait a long time to order and then a long time to get your food (40+ min!). The staff is friendly though!

I ordered take out this time! The server kindly took my order and I waited indoors. I tried their mixed fried lunch for $16. It was fried wonderfully and it was delicious! I had two fatty oysters, two shrimp, and two pieces of salmon. It was really nice, didn't feel oily and heavy. It came with rice, no salad and soup because it was take out. Overall, it was very good and delicious. I wish they still offered salad in the take out, I feel like that's very easy to do so and all the other Japanese restaurants I did take out also came with soup too, it's not that hard.

Have been coming her for over 10 years. Consistency is good. Evenings can be a long wait, service of food can get backed up so you need to be patient. If you're not in a hurry, this is a place for good food. We love the bento choices, udon and sukiyaki dishes.

This food was made in heaven. I don't think I've ever had better sushi. The wait staff were friendly, quick and efficient. The sukiyaki was divine. The dressing on the salad was light and delicious. The miso soup balanced the right flavors. Don't let the fact that this exists in a strip mall, deter you. Once you enter the restaurant, you are transported to Japan. Everything is authentic, fresh, friendly.

Traditional Japanese cuisine with an extensive menu; inside has plenty of room with your typical sushi bar. Service efficient and friendly with smiles and answered the questions we had. Dishes very tasty, we shared which was a good approach, go check it out.

I'm late in posting this from when I took the picture, but it is still on the menu and really delicious, the Makenouchi Bento, (B). It has tempura, tonkatsu, chicken teriyaki, and California roll. I ordered it to go, and it is a very busy place with specific/limited hours in which they are closed between lunch and dinner on weekdays and only open for dinner on weekends (and closed Mondays). It takes a while for the food to be prepared; so I went to place my to-go order and then did grocery shopping at Safeway in the same shopping center.

I love this place. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and while the service may take a bit longer, it's worth the wait. The staff are always friendly, and it's a great spot if you want to take your time, relax, and enjoy your meal. Thank you for always taking such good care of us!

For this 1/2 Japanese woman, I say it's the best Japanese restaurant around! Chicken katsu is made with breast meat. Tonkatsu is made with pork loin. My mom, who was born and raised in Japan, and 100% Japanese, likes their nabeyaki udon. My husband and son like their sashimi. Daughter likes their curry. This restaurant is always packed - both lunch and dinner. You might miss this little place in the Safeway plaza near Taco Bell and Dotty's. Don't be fooled by the mediocre outside because when you go in, you'll feel like you've stepped into an authentic place complete with japanese decor. Service is so-so and can be a little slow. They're not rude or anything, just don't seem to have any pep to their step. Have patience, your food will be worth the wait. For reference, I am adding a picture of their current hours (both google and yelp are wrong). Oh, they have a *delicious* saba mackerel lunch and dinner entree which I often get so I don't stink up my kitchen at home cooking for myself.

Have their hours changed for takeout/delivery?

I don’t know about currently, but I think about the time this question was asked, they seemed to close early. Yelp! said they were open, I drove straight there, about an hour to spare but closed. Ended up going to Toshie’s. Call ahead to be safe.

I think there's no more than 10 seats but if the weather's nice they have some outdoor seating, too. The wall had fun drawings and artwork on it which was fun to look at while waiting for the food. Staff: got our orders. Food: I got their Tori Paitan with char siu for $14. The price was reasonable with the portion they give. The char siu was fatty and the egg was runny. It was piping hot and the soup base was not bad. I didn't feel thirsty afterwards. The noodles were cooked nicely. It is a little further away for me just to eat ramen and nothing was outstanding to me. In fact, I felt a little rushed and couldn't catch up with my friends because of the way the store was set up and few spots. We didn't want to keep chatting because that means other customers would have to wait. So, if you want to quickly eat some ramen, come here.

They do have a large menu besides sushi so I've been branching out into their other items. This time I tried the miso ramen, and the broth was flavorful, not too salty, and it felt complete without needing to order extra add-ins. Better than some dedicated ramen shops I've been to. They might still get busy on weekends, but we went on a weeknight, it was pretty quiet and the food came out quickly.

Their menu is pretty large, with so many options to choose from if you're not really wanting sushi or just wanting to change it up a bit. We were sat down pretty promptly for a walk in at 6 pm! The space was nice to sit down with friends and loved ones for a bite to eat. We came starved, so we practically ordered the whole menu hahah. Nigiri: the salmon was superb. Very sweet, melt in your mouth, perfect mouthfeel! That was our first bite of the day and it really set the tone for the rest of what we ordered. We then had the kanpachi, madai, escolar, and ikura. I really enjoyed the madai and the escolar. Those were both buttery but had a great texture/chew. The kanpachi was fine, I wasn't expecting it to be slightly charred, but that's a personal preference! Next was the ika and the Hokkaido scallop. The Ika was delicious! Everywhere I go I always order the ika, and the Ika here was just as tasty and chewy. They added a shiso leaf with it, giving it more of a different flavor profile, slightly spiced/bitter. But I quite enjoyed that. The Hokkaido scallop was soo incredibly tasty. It was soft, bouncy, and sweet! No fishiness that can sometimes be found with scallops imo. Lastly for nigiri we got the spot shrimp. I thought this was just okay, similar to how I felt about the ikura. Not bad but there were better hits with the nigiri we ordered. Rolls: hamachico was my favorite roll we got out of the two. The yellowtail was so light tasting it almost felt like a palate cleanser with all the food we ordered, it was really good I'd order this again! The lobster roll was okay, I think the chunks of fried lobster on it was great, the base was like a slightly more elevated California roll as my partner described it. It was overall good. Negimaki: this was so so juicy with each bite and full of flavor! Would definitely order this one again. Lobster karaage: the breading to lobster was spot on. These were large fluffy chunks of lobster with just the perfect amount of crunchy breading. Paired with the spicy mayo and the tartar sauce- so delish! Miso soup: it was packed with clams, enoki mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, scallops, tofu, etc. the pot was PACKED. I didn't even get a photo, but I absolutely loved this. I'm not really a miso soup girl, but seeing how much others raved about it, we had to order it and I'm so glad we did. Best miso soup I've ever had! The star of the dinner was their ankimo, hands down. I've tried so many others, but this was so soft, creamy, perfect umami. I would've ordered seconds if we didn't have so much other food already. Overall dinner was delicious, and I definitely have my eye on so many other menu items to try next time!

She explained that changes had been made at the restaurant as a result of feedback like mine, and she genuinely encouraged me to come back and see for myself. I explained that I don't live anywhere near the area and that it would likely be quite some time before I chose Benihana again. I was assured that I would be "taken care of" on my next visit and was even given a personal number to contact. Fast-forward about two months. I happened to be in the area today, so I decided to give them that second chance. Unfortunately, my experience was still far below what I would expect from a restaurant at this price point. The food was still underwhelming. And once again, the people at the table were far too polite to say anything, which honestly made me wonder: Do you ever go back and watch the cameras or listen to what is actually happening at the tables? The drinks I decided that since I normally stick to wine or sake, I would try an actual cocktail this time and give that a fair shot. Unfortunately, the cocktail was essentially sugar syrup. I would have asked to switch it, but there was no one around to do so when I needed them. Eventually, Teddy, the manager, came over, but at that point the situation had already become uncomfortable enough that I simply didn't feel like making an issue out of it. "Comments and states like I'm I like shiny things......." Cocktails: negative zero. Wine: excellent Pinot Noir. The food At the moment, they are offering a limited 5-6 course experience, so I cancelled our other reservations and decided to commit to the full experience here. Unfortunately, the rice was still bad. Juan, the chef, was absolutely amazing. Better than the last by 100000% He was personable, attentive, and did a great job with what he was given. However, the overall experience still felt extremely systematic and lacked the consistency and attention to detail I would expect. I also happened to see the server we had during our previous visit working at the table next to us. It was almost like watching a completely different person--she was much more engaged and attentive this time. Unfortunately, there was also an incident where an entire tray of soup was spilled onto a 400-degree griddle, creating a huge amount of steam directly around the children and adults seated at the neighboring table. That was concerning to watch. Was it better? Some things were better. Some people were excellent. But overall, the restaurant still didn't deliver the experience I was hoping for after being personally asked to return. My bill was $175, with $40.40 comped. And honestly, that's the part that keeps coming back to me: I would have spent that $175 somewhere else. It's not just the money. It's the time. Getting dressed, making reservations, sitting through dinner, and spending an entire evening somewhere is an investment too. I genuinely wanted to be able to come back and say, "They listened. They made changes. It's worth going back." Unfortunately, I can't say that. Would I come back? No. Would I recommend it? No. I appreciate the manager reaching out to me after my original review and making the effort to bring me back. I really do. I gave it another chance specifically because of that conversation. But after tonight, I feel like I've given my feedback, given them another opportunity, and given them my business. At this point, I'm moving on. And again needed to start off with no toilet paper before dinner. Pay $200 for dinner and wipe with seat covers? Pass. I don't want stuff for free ever, but if someone harasses me and calls and pleads for a second review, well here it is. I'll pay no problem. The only difference, my children weren't present this time around Do better.
