I had my reservations since I've had such phenomenal ramen all over the DMV, but Kozy wasn't too shabby. The broth could have had more notes to it, but it had enough bold flavor that I'd continue to slurp. Their chashu was big and thick, but stayed tender. I've had chashu at places like Marumen where it was rock hard so I appreciated Kozy did a much better job. The noodles were nothing to rave about; very regular noodles. The service was super attentive and respectful. Is this the best ramen in the DMV? I wouldn't say so, but for Annandale, I was genuinely surprised and would try them again if I was in the area. Got the Miso Ramen and added a few healthy shakes of shichimi togarashi (on the table) to DIY spice it up a bit. Miso broth was decent, but not as hot as I typically like it. 8/10 broth flavor. Noodles are the right "thicker & curly" style, but were overcooked by a noticeable amount. They should be slightly chewy, IMO. I regret not specifying more "QQ" or chewy al dente when I ordered my Ramen bowl. In Japan it is fairly common to be able to choose from several levels of noodle firmness/doneness. The environment is like a food hall restaurant - with shared bathrooms in the main concourse of the building. The bathrooms were messy and wet everywhere - not pleasant. Overall the building seemed more than a bit crusty - not the most appetizing backdrop. I was torn between 3 or 4 stars for this one. I am rounding up. It is cozy, I mean kozy. Small, in the wall, not too many seating, quiet, chill , covered with Japanese design points, etc. If there's a place I want to hide from responsibilities, this is the place. You walk in, you're greeted by the super kind owners, take a seat and relax. Just don't mind the karaoke club restaurant next door. We ordered spicy ramen, miso, bulgogi buns, and takoyaki. They was quick about getting these items out to us. I complain about food not having flavor, oomf, kapow, zip. These had adequate amount of these elements. Good takoyaki, delicious ramen, unafraid to season that broth and just serve delicious food. Bulgogi buns were good too but I was thinking like a full on bao style bulgogi bun. Buns are a little messy having to hold them but not a deal breaker divorce situation. The waitress was fantastic, she wasn't put off that we came in late but got us everything we needed. Very kind. This is my go to spot for ramen when I don't want to be all posh at Jinya and I have a few dollars more than a dehydrated ramen bowl. In the colder months, all I crave is Ramen, and I am always looking to try new places. I have seen this place in passing while going to another restaurant in the same building and finally decided to stop by. We got the combo with the bao bun. I got the chicken karaage bao bun which was very good, it even came with a little salad which had a super tasty dressing. However, only the ramen itself didn't hit the spot for me. I got the spicy miso ramen as I always do, this broth just wasn't doing it for me. It didn't have enough salt, I actually needed to add some myself. The bite of the noodles were great though! I ordered the combination ramen and bao bun. I got the Tonkatsu Ramen and Beef Bulgogi bao. The small salad and pickled radish were a nice surprise. I guess you get that when you order in? Either way it was all delicious. The pork chasu In the ramen was a thick cut, fatty but succulent. I wish there was more than one piece or pork though. However for the price overall I think it's a good value. I also ordered this ramen again via DoorDash. It wasn't quite as good in house and the piece of pork wasn't as good as when I dined in. Looking for a ramen spot, we landed here at Kozy Ramen. It's a hidden store in a bigger warehouse/restaurant group location? I think the restaurant wants to capture the small ramen shop from Japan and I think it works. I haven't been to Japan (definitely on the bucket list), but I could definitely see the direction Kozy was going. If you haven't been here, it's probably because there are a lot of ramen shops, but I think it's probably because this place is a bit hidden. Inside, there is seating, a whole bench on the side of the wall, and also spots at the ramen bar. I ordered the Spicy tonkatsu. I thought the broth was great, it was flavorful, and it wasn't spicy to the point where the flavor is lost. Service wise, everything was great and there were absolutely no complaints. I will have to return to try some of their other selections as I came for a quick lunch in the middle of running errands. OMG! Amazingly delicious. I ate here for lunch today and had the most scrumptious meal. The shrimp tempura bao bun was so good and the miso ramen was absolute perfection. The flavor of the pork was so rich and the egg as well. I tried their homemade green grape sparkling ade and it was so yummy. My friend had several bao buns and the shrimp shumai, which she really enjoyed. It's a cute and clean restaurant tucked inside a building with some construction happening at the moment. I saw Bulgogi on the menu and knew right away this place wasn't run by the Japanese! However, the place is very much decorated like a Japanese restaurant. There are a bunch of Japanese-themed small posters all over the restaurants. They also have hot sake on the menu! We ordered pork baos, tonkatsu rice, spicy tonkatsu ramen, spicy chicken ramen, and spicy miso ramen. We tried to share a sip of the broth. It seemed like they used the same kind of spice for all. Even though we ordered three different broths, they tasted very similar because we ordered the spicy versions. The base of the broth tasted good. Tonkatsu surprised us. It was crisp in all the right way and very delicious. The pork baos, however, were something I wouldn't order again. It was meh. Ramen-wise, this place put up serious competition in the area but it's not my top pick. Their spiciness needs some work. It wasn't quite there for me. Another minor downside to this place is that the staff works really slowly. I counted 3 staff in the front. There were 3 to 5 max full tables the entire time we were there. It took an unreasonably long time for us to get our ramen. Our drinks and appetizer came like 10 minutes after we sat down. We were hungry so ordered everything at once. Our ramen came out like 40 to 50 minutes later. Why? Do they only have a single chef doing everything in the back? Even though I'd come back, I'd have to think about it because of this. read more

There isn't a whole lot of seating, but we were seated immediately without issues. RAMEN COMBO 1 - 18 For the combo, you can get a ramen + bao bun (so -2.00 together compared to ordering separately). I got the ORIGINAL TONKOTSU RAMEN and BULGOGI BUN. The ramen came in a smaller bowl than I expected and came with a good amount of toppings: pork chashu, nori, scallions, ramen egg, Japanese fish cake, wood ear and even bean sprouts. There was only one piece of pork chashu (thought it would be at least two). The broth was flavorful without being too heavy or greasy and delightful to sip on without being too salty. The ramn noodles were the wavy egg noodles, which isn't my preference but the texture here was fine. All the toppings tasted fresh. As for the bao bun, the bao was soft and fluffy. There was a fair amount of well-marinated bulgogi which was topped generously with scallions and drizzled with some spicy mayo. This was a great little appetizer! The service was great and our server offered us green tea mochi ice cream on the house, which was a delightful treat to the end of our meal. The food was yummy and homey, and I would definitely come back for it. I recommend the ramen combo so you can try both ramen and a bao bun! So tanpopo ramen house rebranded as Kozy ramen. The menu is mostly the same. I will say the broth has improved since the rebranding. It used to be a bit more oily but now is smoother and more "bone broth-y" if that's even such a thing. The spicy tonkotsu was rich and had lots of toppings. Service was good and quick. Will definitely say it has more of a comfort food feel than anything else. I'll be back to try some different ramen. read more

My brother and I made a visit and the location is right off Markham St. You will see big white lit letters JMT Kitchen, pulled into parking lot which is limited but manageable. It's like a mini Block but there's only 3 restaurants so far: A & J, Kozy and JMT. Once you parked, walk up the ramp passing A & J Restaurant, inside the building is the restaurant on your right. There's limited seatings but manageable. The menu is on clipboards, server/ food runner will come and take your order. The menu has so many varieties from small plates, bao buns, ramens, combos, salads, udon, rice bowls and sides. We ordered 5 items: 1) Spicy Tori Ramen with chashu bao bun 2) Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen with spicy jeyuk bao bun 3) Chicken Karaage. We both did a combo meal and there's two options: 1) Ramen with bao bun 2) Ramen with assorted tempura. Both of the ramen were delicious one was chicken and the other was pork. Though the menu states that it is spicy, it wasn't. If you want forehead sweating spicy then you need to inform your server that you want it fiery spicy. So we will get that next time. Now the bao buns that we selected, that was part of the combo. The chashu was tasty and meat was tender. But the jeyuk was very flavorful and delicious. The sauce that was drizzle on top made it very scrumptious. The chicken karaage was unique unlike your typical karaage. It wasn't as crunchy like but these were very moist, tender and delicious. I tried the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen Fiery and the Spicy Jeyuk Bun, and both were amazing! The ramen was super spicy--kind of like Buldak Bokkeum Myeon--but in a really satisfying way that makes you want to keep eating. It definitely helped relieve some stress! I added bean sprouts and green onions, which toned down the heat a bit and made the flavors even better. Also, the chashu here is on another level--thick, super tender, and packed with flavor. It was my first time coming here and I stopped by for lunch. It was a very relaxed atmosphere with Japanese pop playing. I ordered a Kirin lager with a Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen for my entree and the beer was served with a frosted glass and the ramen was immaculate. I love to eat food from all over and learn about the ingredients so I can better understand how and why it pairs together. The presentation was great and the broth and protein was spectacular. I'm not usually a big fan of buns, but the meat was flavorful, balanced well with crisp cucumbers, and a soft bun. Tonkotsu Ramen-- so good! A hearty flavorful beef broth paired with fresh toppings!
