The food was generally good, and we enjoyed our meal, although I would say it was on the pricier side. Little concern we had was the additional merchant fee that was added on top of the bill. This fee was never explained or clearly communicated to us, so we didn't know about it until after we had already left. We also did not receive the limited-edition Dragon Ball Z blind-box collectible pin, even though we had ordered the promotional Creamy Tonkotsu Ramen that qualified for it. We waited for a while, hoping to ask our waiter about it, but unfortunately, he disappeared after dropping off the check. It had been awhile since we last ate at JINYA Ramen Bar and the flavors were just as good as I remembered. I ordered the Black Jinya Ramen and it was delicious -- loved the thin noodle texture and the rich garlic flavor. I just wish the broth had been hotter since it came out more lukewarm and a bit watery for my taste. The Spicy Chicken Ramen was also tasty and the takoyaki was excellent. Stopped by for lunch on a Sunday and it was packed. I liked how you put your name on the waitlist and could see your spot in the que while walking around the Mosaic District. Our table was ready at the quoted time (~30 minutes). Started with the crispy rice with spicy tuna and the salmon poke mini tacos, which were both solid choices. You'll definitely want to order more than one crispy rice (comed 3 per order)! For my main I had the shrimp wonton ramen, which came with thick noodles, green onions, and kikurage in a pork/shrimp broth. The ambiance can be described as fancy/casual and is good for small groups, dates, or with co-workers. The service was fast, and our waitress was nice and explained the menu to us as we had some first timers at the table. We went on a Tuesday with no reservations and were seated quickly. Also, the appetizers were flavorful and good for sharing. The cucumber salad and miso glazed eggplant were a must, especially if you're vegetarian. We came to Jinya Ramen Bar for the Demon Slayer collaboration and it did not disappoint! We were so excited to get the Tanjiro spoons, such a fun and cute touch for fans. For food, we ordered the takoyaki and it was pretty good, crispy on the outside and flavorful. We also got the Tokyo Yatai Classic ramen. The broth was good overall, but there was a bit too much white onion for our taste. The onion flavor was very strong and overpowered the other flavors, so next time I'll definitely request less. Our server Natalia was very friendly and helpful, which made the experience even better. Jinya remains to be my favorite ramen spot! I've been to many locations in the DC area, but this was my first time at the Fairfax location. They have a fireplace dining area that my friend and I got the chance to dine in. It made our dining experience very cozy, and it had a very beautiful view of the Christmas tree in front of the restaurant. We had a great server, Brian, who frequently came to check on us and was accommodating. The host was also very friendly and let us sit at the bar while we waited for our seats. The bartender was also very kind and gave us water as we waited at the bar. I tried a couple menu items that I haven't tried at the other locations. For my drink, I got the yuzu mule, which was the perfect holiday cocktail. I also tried the spicy creamy shrimp tempura. As we see in the name, it was creamy, spicy, and of course very tasty! I really enjoyed it. And of course, I had to get the flying vegan harvest ramen. I should really expand my ramen choices when I come to Jinya, but this ramen just doesn't disappoint. I was really looking forward to introducing my mom to this restaurant for her first ramen experience. I had previously visited the Union Market location and had an incredible time there friendly service, great atmosphere, and amazing food, so I had high hopes for this visit. Unfortunately, this location did not meet those expectations. We arrived on a Saturday and were greeted at the door, which was a great start. However, we were seated in a side room that had a noticeable number of gnats flying around. I brought it to the host's attention, and she kindly moved us to the main dining area. After being reseated, we waited about 10 minutes, then a large party of 8 was seated right next to us. To our surprise, they were greeted and had their orders taken almost immediately, while we had yet to even be acknowledged. Another 10 minutes passed, and I had to stop a passing server to ask what was going on. He apologized and mentioned there had been a mix-up. What disappointed me most was that, even after that, the service didn't improve. I mentioned it was my mom's first time, but there was no explanation of the menu, no mention of happy hour specials (which I later noticed were going on), and no effort to make her feel welcomed, completely different from my experience at the Union Market location, where the staff was very attentive and informative. Feeling let down and overlooked, we decided to leave and drive the 40 minutes to the Union Market location, where the service and experience once again exceeded expectations. This location wasn't even busy, so the lack of attention and care was especially frustrating. We made a reservation at 2pm, when we got here, we were told we need to wait for 10 minutes while there were a lot of empty tables, what is the purpose of making reservation?! Then we were given the table that's closest to the door (this is January), while other tables available. We asked if we could move to a booth (there were some available), the host said we had to wait! I could not believe that. The menu selection is so limited, there are only 5 vegetarian dished on the entire menu. Also, they wouldn't let you order kids meal (I wasn't hungry, just want something small), why put that on menu? When the waiter had our food, he stopped and talked to other staff, he was standing almost next to our table, why wouldn't he put our food down then talk to the coworker? I had to ask for the water refill. When we finished, we also had to ask someone to take the empty dishes away... The food we ordered, both quality and quantity were below average. If you want good ramen noodles or sushi, go to Japanese restaurants, if you want good fried chicken, go to Korean restaurants. I will never come back to this restaurant. read more

Perfect comfort food. I visited on a snow day and everything on the menu is great for a cold day. The beef birria ramen is so filling. It's a beef birria taco in ramen form. Arrived a rainy Saturday afternoon. First time guest we called and told them we were coming with 6 people. When we arrive we're seated pretty quickly although the restaurant had customers it wasn't super busy. I would describe the ambiance as open, dark and modern. Had interactions with 3 waitstaff all were pleasant, but not especially engaging. The food choices were many and after our group received our orders we were largely unimpressed. The ramen we received was technically ramen but the broth in none of our dishes were especially rich, complex, nor spicy. In fact, several college students eating at our table described their dishes as tasting like ramen bowls they made at school when they added too much water. While no one was angry our table of 6 left much of our dishes uneaten. No one asked to take the food home and no one is interested in returning. read more

Haven't been back since they moved storefronts. Looks the same but also elevated! It's a much bigger space and great outdoor seating. Everything I had was absolutely amazing, I got to try lots of things I wouldn't have ordered by myself. The appetizers were plentiful and easy to share around the table. For the main dish, you obviously have to get one of the ramen bowls. Oh, and for drinks if you're not feeling a cocktail, go for the matcha lychee lemonade! Recently checked out Jinya after years of walking by it. It was midday on Saturday and there was about a 10-15 minute wait. We ended up seated outside but we weren't really asked or given in option. Which is fine because there were heat lamps so it wasn't too cold but still would have liked the option. For apps we ordered fries and the crispy cucumber salad, both were good. The fries came with two sauces and they were both very good. We also ordered the lychee matcha lemonades, they were very pretty and good flavor. They bring the matcha bowl out and whisk it in front of you before pouring it into the drink. I decided to try the barria ramen, just to be different. It was good, an interesting mix of flavors. I think in the future I may stick with the classic ramen flavors but this was a fun twist to try. Overall we had a good experience and will likely come by again. read more

The limited-time lunch deal over the spring/summer with ramen and tapas was fantastic ($24 for meat and $26 for vegan) There was a generous serving of vegan tapas - 3 dumplings filled with impossible burger, 1/2 dozen pieces of veggie tempura, and crispy veggie taco stuffed with impossible burger (my favorite tapas)! The taco tasted like a crispy empanada. The $2 upcharge for the vegan tapas was well worth it. The new vegetarian Tsunami White Pearl was perfectly balanced with a flavorful broth with a meaty Impossible burger and a heap of veggies with broccolini, spinach, and a strong dose of both green and red onions. The Flying Vegan Harvest is savory and quite tasty with meaty Impossible burger, soft tofu, and a heap of veggies with broccolini and corn. The chili oil has a spicy kick! I requested it without the oil, which was mild and perfect. I really enjoy the kale noodles and prefer them over the thick noodles, healthier and tastier option! In the past, I've had some issues with removing or substituting toppings, but my request for no chili oil was kindly accommodated during my latest visit. The Mangolicious cocktail had a boozy kick with a heavy pour of Suntory Toki Whisky with a subtle mango flavor. Lycheetini cocktail is my pick! The fresh Watermelon juice is refreshing! JINYA Ramen absolutely delivers. I ordered the matcha lychee lemonade, and it was a standout--refreshing, perfectly balanced, and unique enough to be memorable on its own. We had a 6pm reservation for a party of six on a Saturday to celebrate a birthday. After ordering, our food took about 50 minutes to arrive. We didn't expect anything special, just for our food to come out in a reasonable timeframe. What made the situation worse was the manager's response. He said he would "personally run the food" as a courtesy, but when the food finally came, he only brought out one bowl while our server brought the rest. It felt more performative than helpful. Our server was friendly and did their best, but the wait time was excessive, even for a busy night. The manager's handling of the situation added fuel to the fire. A genuinley disappointing experience. The mosaic Jinya once was a clean and hip atmosphere with good food and great vibes. It's become barely a shell of its former self. The place just feels run down wobbly tables. Broken chairs. Menus that have not been wiped down in a while and no smiling faces on the staffs' faces. Just doesn't seem clean and put together anymore. We walked in and were promptly seated outside at our request. The restaurant was not busy and half the tables were empty and the bar didn't have a single patron. Upon being shown to our table my wife's chair was missing the entire seat portion of our chair. The host made no mention and walked away. We replaced the chair ourselves and got situated. Our server came and offered us water and took our order. This was the first and last time we saw her. Around 30 minutes after ordering a lady asked if we were still waiting for our food. We nodded and she said she would check on it as they were backed up and get back to us. Not sure why as the restaurant was no where near full. Again first and last time we saw her too. Our food arrived at around 40 minutes after ordering. We were missing part of our order and when I mentioned to the busser she said she would look into it. Another lady came by and said "you don't want the salad anymore now right?" Well if I didn't want it I wouldn't have asked where it was. At this point I should've walked away but I wanted to be polite and at least get our food pay and then leave. We eat our food and finish. Not once did anyone check on us and ask how the food was or refill my water which had been empty ever since ordering. We wait and wait and wait some more for our check. We then walk to the host stand and ask for the manager so we could get our check and settle our bill and leave. I also wanted to give some feedback about our experience. She kindly took care of our check which was appreciated. I really used to like this place. I would think management should try and retain customers and bring them back. A suggestion next time would be if a mistake is made or part of an order is missed. Just bring it out anyways and tell the customer it's on the house don't assume "you don't want it now anyways." I appreciated the manger covering the bill but perhaps a better approach would be think of a way to bring the customer back and give it another chance. Maybe "I apologize for your experience and appreciate the feedback but that's not who we are. Please take this gift card and come back and try us again". 4/7/24 We had an early lunch since we skipped the hotel breakfast. I think they had just opened. We were taken to an "outside" area without asking us: inside or outside. And there weren't any people inside... It's a heated area, so ok, we will roll with it. Hubby wanted hot tea, but they don't have that... um, what kind of Japanese restaurant doesn't offer hot tea?! Hubby got a cold matcha tea, and I got a Hibiscus drink. My Hibiscus was good, but hubby Matcha was not sweetened... Meanwhile, there were plenty of open tables away from us. I'm allergic to dogs. So we asked to move inside when the lady came with our food. That simple request seems to have confounded everyone as they stare at us like we had horns on our head... so we went inside, and it seems many more people had come in since we sat down outside. So we sat down at an empty table amongst all the new customers all chowing down on their food. How did they get their food before us when we were there 1st? Things that make you go hum... That simple act seemed to mean we were no longer going to get service... Saw a man that looked like management stop and talk to the customers around us but he never looked as us and just walked right pass... Anyways when we finished hubby had to get up and walk to someone to get the check so we can pay and leave. Now to the food Tonkatsu Black I'm not sure why this was called black, I didn't see nor smell black garlic. It was just meh Fried Chicken Was actually good Pork Bao Asked for no cucumber but came with it. Good thing it's easy to remove. It was ok, the pork piece was smaller than the bao... I love JINYA's food and have eaten there dozens of times but today was incredibly disappointed at the portion from the Mosaic District location. I ordered food to go as I was in the area running errands. I ordered three orders of the tacos and one order of the impossible rice bowl. The tacos are small to begin with, cost $8 for two, and usually come with enough impossible meat to fill both tacos, but this one barely had enough to fill ONE. That's $24 worth of tacos, and I have 3 remaining shells. The impossible rice bowl was a good portion and tasted fresh and flavorful but it was mostly white rice. Thin layer of chickpeas, purple lettuce, impossible meat, and kale over a HUGE 1-inch layer of white rice. I probably won't come back to this location again, especially since DC now has two locations with two more on the way! read more

Was excited to try this Ramen place after it was recommended to me and it was good. I liked how the pork inside the ramen was so tender and juicy and the egg was nicely cooked but it didn't stick out to me as much. The portion is nice, not too big not too small. The takoyaki however, I thought it could've been better. Presentation was nice but only a small piece of octopus was inside the batter. Unlike other Jinya locations we've been to, this one has outdoor seating, which is always a nice option, especially when hanging out with friends or family. The atmosphere here is consistently pleasant and relaxed. The ramen, as usual, was fantastic--this spot remains one of our top picks for ramen in the DMV area. But the food is the only redeeming reason I give it 4 stars. Just be ready to be thirsty for a good 10 minutes, and for your order to be taken almost as slow. It was not even a super busy night, a weeknight. Regarding the food, it was really good. The shrimp reminds me of an asian firecracker shrimp, sweet but salty. And the pork in the ramen was really flavorful and soft. I liked the takoyaki a lot too.
