Dependable Coastal Coffee Haven with Great Vibes Kraken Coffee Company is a reliable morning (or afternoon) anchor during any stay at Avila Village Inn--right on Front Street with that prime ocean proximity, making it easy to swing by after the Bob Jones Trail or before heading to the beach. We stopped in multiple times on our recent trip: once for a quick mocha and vegan burrito mid-morning, another for nitro cold brew and a scoop of Batch ice cream to cap a hot-tub day. The coffee is consistently strong and well-crafted--rich lattes, flavorful chai (the Dirty Kraken Chai stands out with its spiced depth), and nitro options that feel refreshing on warmer days. The vegan burrito is hearty and fresh, packed with good ingredients without being heavy, and the ice cream scoops (from their sibling Batch) add a nice sweet touch when you want something cooler than Hula Hut's denser offerings. The pirate-ship-inspired interior is charming--nautical without overdoing it, with upstairs loft seating that gives a nice overlook of the baristas and Front Street bustle. Outdoor benches catch the ocean breeze perfectly, and the staff are friendly, quick, and patient even during busier beach crowds. It earns solid marks for convenience and quality in a casual setting--pairs beautifully with your trail routine or as a low-key pick-me-up. Only reason it's not a full 5: portions on some items (like the burrito) can feel a touch modest for the price, and on peak weekends the line moves steadily but not lightning-fast. Still, for expertly made drinks, solid eats, and that effortless beach-town atmosphere, it's a keeper we'll keep hitting on future Avila escapes. Highly recommended if you're craving quality coffee without leaving the promenade vibe. It slots right into the itinerary without missing a beat.

This is a great little place to stop off for a coffee. I had an iced Americano. What was really a surprise was the quality of their homemade ice cream. It is absolutely delicious. Service is very friendly and cool! Also, they have a nice little mezzanine inside with some tables upstairs.

One of the best views I've ever enjoyed with a cup of coffee. This spot has become a must-visit every time I'm near Avila Beach. You get beautiful ocean views, easy beach access, and solid coffee. The interior is rustic and cozy, and there's an upstairs seating area if the ocean breeze isn't your thing. They offer a nice variety of coffees and pastries, and the servers are incredibly kind and happy to make recommendations. I went with my classic iced vanilla latte. The ice can make it a bit watery over time, but honestly, I don't mind too much. Afterward, you can lounge by the beach, listen to the waves, and sip your drink. You really can't beat that. There are also plenty of nearby shops to explore, making the whole area feel lively yet peaceful. It's a truly scenic spot that I'd absolutely recommend taking the time to enjoy.

Such a hidden gem near the coastal beach! The view is absolutely breathtaking and perfect for a leisurely coffee-in-hand stroll! The way the sunlight dances on the water creates a mesmerizing panorama that changes throughout the day. The gentle sound of waves crashing against the shore provides a soothing soundtrack to complement the stunning scenery.

Decent coffee, it's a cute location and I like that they have a little upstairs work area. It was a really hot day and I got an iced mocha to go. It wasn't super flavorful or strong, I'd recommend trying double shot espresso in it.

Cute little coffee shop within walking distance from the beach. They have a tiny spot upstairs to sit and a couple seats out in front of the shop. I like that they have stickers, necklaces, shirts and other merchandise to purchase. So why your waiting for your drink there is plenty of things to browse. I ordered a vanilla matcha. It was delicious but I didn't taste too much vanilla.

This spot is right next to the beach so it's such a nice place to grab coffee for a beach walk. Parking is relatively easy on the sidewalk. When we went there wasn't a line. Got the Mexican mocha which had a warming spices in it! I enjoyed it overall.

The best mocha I've ever had - especially since it comes with an ocean view. The staff are so friendly and their drinks come out fast. I loved the artwork and the gifts they had for sale. I even picked up a new book for my friend while there. Love this coffee shop!

Great coffee cafe right next to the beach. Today it was a rainy day so perfect for a hot Roobis tea and a beach view from inside. The place has lots to choose from and great bakery items. Friendly service.

Great coffee near the best stretch of sand in California. Quick service and fantastic views. The pastries are fresh and delicious, too.

Best lavender latte I have ever had. A bit pricy at $7. Macchiato was $5. Staff was friendly.

The Perfect Sweet Finale Every Time Hula Hut is hands-down…read moreone of the standout gems on Avila Beach's Front Street, and we make it a ritual to end every evening here during our stays at Avila Village Inn. It's not just ice cream--it's the ideal punctuation to a day of trail walking, hot tubs, beach lounging, and good meals. The hand-scooped ice cream from Doc Burnstein's is exceptional: creamy, dense, and packed with real flavor without being overly sweet. Their seasonal and local-inspired options (think fresh strawberry when in season, or the rich chocolate peanut butter that feels indulgent yet balanced) never disappoint. We've tried classics like vanilla bean and mint chip, and they're executed with precision--perfect texture, generous scoops, and cones that hold up without crumbling. What elevates it to five stars is the whole experience: the cheerful, unpretentious service (quick even on busy summer evenings), the outdoor benches with direct ocean views, and the way it fits so naturally into the rhythm of Avila. After pizza at Mission or seafood at Custom House, walking the short distance for a double scoop under the string lights feels effortless and rewarding. Portions are satisfying without being overwhelming, prices are fair for the quality, and they offer non-dairy options that actually taste great. We've hit Hula Hut multiple times per trip--once after the Bob Jones Trail soak, again post-beach--and it never fails to deliver that quiet moment of pure contentment as the waves roll in and the day winds down. If you're in Avila Beach and appreciate a dessert that feels thoughtful rather than gimmicky, this is the spot. We'll keep returning, and it's earned its permanent place on our itinerary. Highly recommended--make it your evening closer. You won't regret it.

Reliable Trail-Side Favorite with Solid Value Woodstone…read moreMarketplace is a seamless fit for any stay at Avila Village Inn, and we made it our go-to spot for breakfast and lunch during our recent visit. The location right along the Bob Jones Trail--literally steps from the inn via the paved walkway--makes it incredibly convenient: grab a coffee or meal without breaking your rhythm after a morning walk or before heading to the beach. Breakfast stands out: generous portions of fresh ingredients, with standbys like avocado toast (creamy, well-seasoned, topped with perfectly poached eggs), breakfast burritos packed with flavor, and hearty bagels or pastries that fuel a full day of activity. The coffee is strong and consistent, and the outdoor patio overlooking the trail adds a relaxed, shaded vibe--great for people-watching or just soaking in the creek-side calm. We took advantage of the 10% discount for Village Inn guests (just mention it at checkout), which makes the pricing feel even more reasonable. Lunch is equally dependable: salads, sandwiches, and hot options that lean fresh and satisfying without being fussy. Service is friendly and efficient--orders come quickly even when busy--and the market side offers grab-and-go snacks, fresh produce, and local items that are perfect for stocking up before the drive home. It's not flawless: the menu can feel a touch predictable (solid but not groundbreaking), and on peak weekend mornings the wait for made-to-order items stretches to 15-20 minutes. Ambiance is casual and functional rather than polished--think market-café hybrid, not upscale dining. Still, for what it delivers--convenient, quality food in a prime trail location with that nice discount--it's a reliable winner we'll keep returning to. Highly recommended if you're staying nearby and want breakfast or lunch without hassle. It earns its spot on every Avila itinerary.
