Outstanding! Water heater went out this weekend. I called Monday and while they were completely booked, they got me a 1 hour window first thing Tuesday morning. Came right at the beginning of the window and at 8:30 the repairs were completed! Julio was professional and courteous. Cost was reasonable. Didn't try to up-sell me to replace the unit and gave me pointers on what to watch for with an older water heater. Will definitely use again and recommend to others. read more

I had an emergency plumbing situation over the weekend at my condo unit in alexandria. I called a few locally owned plumbing companies. Fixed a complex problem with not getting hot enough water in showers. Involved needing a both new hot water heater but also changing safety valve settings in shower heads. Two other plumbers had come by before and not figured out the problem (just recommended new hot water heater which would not fix the problem) and did not spend the time to figure it out. Price is somewhat higher than others quoted but like I said, they actually figured out the problem so I attribute it to paying for premium service. Julio was the one who did the hard work for us. CALLOUS TO CUSTOMER. When our HVAC failed during summer heat we called Kramer for a diagnosis. A technician came the next day and advised we needed a complete replacement. That sounded right because the system was over 20 years old. He took measurements and promised a quote the next day. Good, so far. However, instead of a quote the next day we got another visit from Brian, a more senior employee. He promised us a quote the following day after that. A few more days went by without air conditioning and no quote. We called the Kramer office and were promised a quote the next day. That time we got the quote but it didn't look right. I called the office again and was promised a call back, but was told since it was Friday the call would not be until Monday. There was no call on Monday or for three more days. It was callous disregard to us to leave us without air conditioning for well over a week DUE ONLY TO DELAYS IN PROMISES. After a quote course there would have been a further delay to receive installation, probably having left us a total of over two weeks without air conditioning. At that point we went to a competitor who diagnosed, quoted, and installed a new HVAC in five days and at a price a little lower than Kramer's. read more

Kramer & Sons could've taken me to the cleaners like another area plumbing co. tried to by saying my *entire* sewage line needed replacing (and that I should replace my water line while I was at it). They could've given me an early lowball estimate too, just to get my project. But they were honest, gave an appropriate early assessment, instead pointed (correctly) the exact source of the problem, and then professionally and quickly dealt with it. Was it the cheapest? Perhaps not--but neither were they the most expensive. They were simply the most hassle-free and reliable to deal with. I'd recommend them. They are furthermore Dominion Electric's provider of choice in the area for the home roots coverage plan which (alas) I couldn't qualify for. Still, having had to deal with nonsense from a range of home service providers in order to prep my house for sale, I would strongly recommend them.. read more

I phoned Kramer & Son because of such good reviews here. We already knew we had a sewer drain obstruction or roots/break in the line causing our guest bathtub and toilet to back up when water was used to wash clothes, do dishes or to use that bathroom itself. I called on Monday, they set an appointment for Tuesday. They showed up, were polite enough, seemed knowledgeable enough and respectful enough. Until Nick, the service man, proceeded to tell me the fee would be 811.xx to remove the toilet, reset it and snake the drain. He offered a fee for 532.xx if we removed the toilet ourselves. Meaning he was charging almost 200 bucks to remove and reset the toilet. I THINK NOT!!! He made the call to set up the appt. for tomorrow and I overheard him tell the scheduler that this was "a little different" because we would be removing and resetting the toilet and that he thought 2 cables would do it. He charged the 59.xx fee for coming out for his 10 minutes of time to diagnose what I already knew was wrong. And then for some reason thought I would swallow the fact that they wanted to charge us almost 300 bucks to remove and replace the toilet. As soon as he left I phoned someone else in the area. Who quoted me a price of 480.xx + 50.00 for each cable over 1 used. This included toilet removal. SHAME ON YOUR KRAMER & SON. I actually went with Roto Rooter who was at my house within 1 hour after I called them. Charged me NOTHING to give me the estimate. And my total bill no matter how many hours it took would be 540.xx with them putting a camera in as well and a warranty of work. I am completely satisfied with my decision to forget Kramer & Son. read more

Our home main sewer line was blocked, which we had insurance for through Virginia Dominion. After filing a claim they arrived the next day. They needed to remove/reinstall a toilet to access the sewer line which was not covered by the insurance. Their price was $305 to do a 20 minute job. Unfortunately, I did not have the time at that point to do it myself, so I grudgingly relented. Their work on the sewer line was fine (wasn't exactly rocket science), but what a ripoff to remove the toilet. I suppose this is how they make up for the lower insurance payments by gouging the customers. Also, their total price (with no insurance) for the job would have been $962 Dollars. I received a quote from Roto Rooter for the same job for $679 Dollars. read more

My toilet tank was slow to fill and a technician came to the house. The technician was very personable and he quoted a $300 cost with one year warranty, which I declined. I paid $59 for the visit. I replaced the fill valve for $12.71 in about 15 minutes and fixed the problem. read more

I have used Kramer and Sons Plumbing since moving to Alexandria in 2002. They are true professionals who are knowledgeable about their business and very courteous to their customers. It's easy to make an appointment, they arrive on time (or earlier if they have a cancellation or finish another job sooner than expected), quote you a price, and, assuming you accept, do their work efficiently and clean up thoroughly. I just called them to snake out a drain on 1/10/17. The front office called to say the technician could come earlier than my 12-4 p.m. window as they had a cancellation. Rene was there in about 30 minutes. He listened carefully to what the problem was, gave me a quote, explained what he would be doing to clear the drain, and then quickly and efficiently about the task. Once done, he explained that he had put the snake in 35 ft (the last time this was done in 2014, the clog was reached at 28 ft), hadn't brought up any sludge, and that he had flushed out the drain for a good long time to ensure that it was clear. He cleaned up thoroughly, gave me the invoice to sign, and thanked me for using Kramer and Sons. I would definitely recommend Kramer any time. read more

Kramer & Sons has been our go-to plumber for the past 6 years. Most recently, one of our toilets was running full blast, non-stop. We had to turn the water off at the tank to get it to stop. I called Kramer and Sadat scheduled us for service the next morning. When the guy he'd scheduled was running late at the job before ours, Sadat called me to say he was sending someone else so we wouldn't be inconvenienced. This is typical of this company. They are professionals who provide excellent customer service. Once they've checked out the problem, they tell you what it'll cost to fix it before they begin working. They're very clean and careful about protecting your home while they're working. They do whatever it takes to get the job done right the first time. In the past 6 years, I think we've used all of their technicians. They all know their trade and are very professional. I'm always very skeptical when it comes to having people come into my home and repair things (I'm paranoid that since I have no knowledge that the person could rip me off). Anyway, Kramer and Sons was not like that at all. They made the whole process seamless. I made my appointment online (super easy to do), and within two hours they called and confirmed the appointment. I selected the window of "noon to four". The staff at the office was very friendly. I had a potential leak, and sent a picture beforehand. The technician examined the photo before coming out. The office called before they sent the technician and asked if it was a good time to stop by, and that they would arrive in thirty minutes. The technicians arrived on time, and ready to work. They donned their booties to keep everything clean. Both of the technicians were super knowledgeable, and since they were knowledgeable, they didn't have to do a lot of extra work (which saved me money). They explained everything that they did. Replaced our sewer line and water line, due to age. The job was originally scheduled for a predicted rainy Monday. Apparently, they can perform the work in the rain as long as there are not heavy downpours; but as predicted it did rain and heavy most of the day. They did bring the equipment and supplies though in preparation for the job. On Tuesday, they arrived on time and were finished with installation by 1:30 pm, which was quite amazing for such a major job. The next day they arrived early in the morning waiting for the county inspector. After inspection, they completed the job, filling in the trench and reseeding and watering the lawn. Good estimate, prompt scheduling, professional, but also personable. The crew seemed quite experienced, working efficiently, finishing the work quickly, but careful and conscientious. I'm glad everyone is so pleased with their ease of scheduling, prompt arrival and professional manner. It's a pitty their prices are such a joke. I needed a hose bib replaced. It's a simple job and I was able to fully, and correctly, describe the job over the phone. They would not quote over the phone, but they made such a good impression (and have such great reviews) I decided to pay the $49 'arrival fee' to have them come over and quote the job. Guess how much they would charge to replace my hose bib - $750. No joke. $750. Just WOW. It's true, they don't charge by the hour. They do however have a chart. And this chart tells them how much to charge no matter the situation. Hose bib? Minimum price = $450 Got something non-basic (whatever the hell that means)? $300 complexity surcharge. WHAT A JOKE. I sent them on their way, called another local, licensed, plumber who quoted me $250 over the phone. He came over the next day, had the job done in an hour and charged me $250. The only people who think Kramer and Sons have reasonable prices never bothered to call another plumber for a quote. read more

Recently I had a plumbing nightmare!! I had water in my basement toilet gurgling when upstairs water was running. And then it stopped up!! Not good. This was becoming a disaster. As a "Mr. Fixit, I rented 100ft snakes from home depot TWICE and it didnt work. So I called kramer and sons and not only were they polite and understanding, but found a way to send help my way even with a booked schedule. They found a way to fit me in. I was given a service window and 15 minutes before the tech arrived I recieved a call letting me know they would be there soon. When the gentleman arrived he was clean, polite/nice, greeted me and asked me what my issue was exactly and what I've tried so far. I explained my situation and we was ready to get to work. We protected my newly tiled floors and walls with clothes and wore shoe protection to make sure he didnt track dirt etc. into my house. And in no time my situation was fixed!!! Roots. Not only did he fix the problem, but he also spent the time to tell me how to prevent this from happening in the future and what to try if this happens again!! Last plumber I called did nothing but snap at me and complain. And they also warrantied there work. The best part of it all was that I didnt get taken to the cleaners. Excellent pricing as well.
