I had a service line leak on a Friday and called a bunch of companies. Most of them could not give a quote on the spot or said they could not look at it or start work until Monday. I called Longs at 6pm on that Friday and they sent Nelson to look at it the next morning. He was very knowledgeable and was able to give a quote on the spot as well as start work that morning. The crew was very friendly and stayed until 8pm that night (it was 20 degrees out) to get my water back up. We contacted Long Plumbing on a Thursday due to a severe water main leak at our home. A representative came to our home on Friday and only took measurements and pictures. He claimed that their "estimator went home early" on Friday and we wouldn't get our estimate until Monday. We called again on Monday morning at approximately 10:00 am and the same man we spoke on Friday said that the estimator "is just getting in" and would have our estimate shortly. Many hours passed with no reply. I sincerely don't think this company wants our business and we are extremely frustrated at the lack of concern they have to replace our water main. We are moving on to get other quotes. Maybe this company will eventually learn how to provide good customer service. UPDATE: It is now Monday at 4:00 pm and Long's called me back with a VERBAL QUOTE ONLY. They said it would take another day to put it on letterhead!!!! Seriously? The owner who does the quotes told me that she is over 60 years old and "doesn't come in to work until 10:30 am." This business needs to get out of the 1980s and upgrade to the way other companies do business in 2021. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! As of 3/15/2019 @0930 we have still not seen one person here to pick up the trash in our yard (we picked it up because I was tired of looking at cigarette butts and pieces of the old sewage line sitting in my yard). Wow. Just wow. Very impressed. Our main sewer line had tree roots growing in them, Long's came out snaked out the clogged line. Then they came out again the following week to inspect the sewer line with a camera, saw the break. They filed a claim with our insurance company, which took a while -- since the sewer crack was close to the footer of the house, they were afraid they'd need to cut the porch and at first the insurance company wasn't going to pay. Finally got approval and penciled us into the calendar. Once they showed up to dig, they placed all the dirt on a large tarp. Dug deep enough to get to the damaged sewer line, repaired it (without cutting the porch), back filled all the dirt. And cleaned up after themselves, I almost can't tell that there was a large pile of dirt on my front yard. Friday night I slept by my open patio glass door because my HVAC stopped cooling the house. The system was working, but it was not cooling. Something was definitely wrong. The following morning I found Longs Corp on Yelp and decided to give em a try. Missy answered the phone and ran me down a basic interview & Diagnostics over the phone. Once she got the information she needed, she offered me a Monday Appointment. I agreed and we got it scheduled. 1 hour later I got a phone call stating that one of their top techs got done with a Job nearby much earlier than expected and that if it was ok with me, he could swing on by to at least see what's going on with my system. I could of not been happier to agree. 20 minutes later, a young man by the name of Marty showed up with a smile & a Tool Bag that carried tools that looked like belonged in Frankensteins lab. Hoses and gages everywhere. He put on his shoe covers, did a walk around the home to look for the thermostat and take a look at my HVAC System. He then moved out to the outside where my, uh, other half of the system now stands? ....I don't know what that thing is called but it's pretty important because that's where Marty found the problem. It turns out that a bug got in to the electrical system or Fuse box of the outside unit and it stopped blowing air in to the house. Marty moved on to find the part I Needed, which he so happened to have in his truck (Awesome), he then explained the why I need it and quoted me a price. Well, with 5 kids and a pretty wife all starring out the window with sweat beads rolling down their forehead, I could do nothing else but Beg to Get-Er-Done !!! (It actually was a mid market fair price, I researched it up after he left. Major plus). 20 minutes later Marty had us up and running. My Hot Box of a home started cooling down......YEEES !!! No more sleeping on the floor by the patio door. All and all, my experience was phenomenal. I was treated with absolute kindness and respect from the phone call to the time I handed over the credit card with a tip. I never felt an up sell coming on and i was always kept in the loop with the needs of my system. I was advised my system, being near 10 years old, is coming near the end of its productive life, so getting prepared for the replacement of the same may be a good idea. They quoted us $2300 to remove and replace our water heater, install required expansion tank, remove and replace the shutoff value and install a water pan. I was able to find a competitor to do the same work for $800 less. I just wanted to share my frustration at Long's Corporation. I knew them through the AC warranty company I have, and had a great experience with them since last year until recently when I had an issue with my AC that they fixed, and reoccurred after three weeks. They came to my house to take a look at the problem, and diagnosed the same issue, but on a different part of the reversing valve. The tech who diagnosed the problem recommended that the reversing valve should be replaced and that they will seek approval from my warranty company to make the repair. I followed up the next day (being very eager to have our AC fixed given the current temperature), only to find out that they misreported the issue with my warranty company telling them that my AC system had to be replaced which is not covered under my policy, hence the denial of the repair. This was completely different from what the tech told me which I also have in writing. I tried reaching out to them about the matter twice, and felt that they were giving me run-around responses in order not to service my system. This to the point of blaming the platform where my AC stands, which they say vibrates and therefore caused the problem. I had my system and the platform checked by 3 other companies, and all 3 noted that the platform is sturdy enough to do its job. The point here is, had they reported the issue with my warranty company honestly and accurately, my AC would have been repaired and working by now. Still wondering though if this is their way to hook me to replace my system for money or could it be that my warranty company will pay them too little for the service to be done? Sad to say, all these gave me the vibes of a company tolerating dishonest, lazy and incompetent technicians. read more

My Tenant (Sunny Y) got charged 870 dollars for installing a new garbage disposal(350$), PVC trap (343$) , and 90$ for straight stop and riser, besides 89$ for dispatch fees. According to national average most of the plumbers charges only 105 to 200$ for disposal installation and it is only 105$ if you buy the disposal through amazon and the same for PVC trap it cost 120-200 dollars. So, all charges should not exceed 500 dollars instead 870 dollars. It is completely rip-off. read more

A week before thanks giving Long's Corp was sent to us by homeserve to diagnose why water backing up in the kitchen sink drain when take shower upstairs. John, Kyle and Mike came and diagnosed there is a broken drain line from 20" away from clean out in the basement room. To repair They need to dig the concrete slab about 5"×3". They charged us $ 5245. They supposed to camera the drain line after they digged. But They did not . They said they fixed the problem but the same day we have water back up again. When we called them they said we have like second broken drain pipe which is 9 " away from clean out. The question is if there is a broken how did they camera past 9 " and reached 20" distance and diagnosed broken pipe. From that moment we know they are lying to us. Now I dont believe there is any broken pipe. They are very dishonest. Since beginning They should have recommanded us to do hydrojetting . They used all our homeserve benefits . read more

Longs came over on same day for my ac unit went down suddenly. They came same day and called and text me when they would arrive. Steve was the technician who came. True profession, had all the proper HVAC equipment ran several checks and quickly found the problem and resolved it. Had well used professional equipment, Fluke, Yellow Jacket gauges, etc that I noticed. Professional uniform, steel toe shoes. He was extremely courteous and knowledgeable. Reviewing a plumber the day after the job is done is risky. The real review is how the work holds up over time. That said, I was very pleased with the work and work ethic of the Long's plumbers. They were knowledgeable, worked quickly and worked smart. The price to replace a water heater was high but they used to of the line materials. Friendly and efficient. We have had Long's at our house several times. The customer service is bar none in the Northern VA area. We had a pipe leak not long after we bought our house 4 years ago and the home warranty company sent Long's. I have used them ever since. They replaced our hot water heater and the guys that came out knew and could talk about the codes. Mike is usually the one that comes out to our house. He treats our house like it was his own. He is super careful that my wife's cat doesn't get out when he is in and out for parts. You might be able to find someone cheaper then Long's, I don't know because I wont even try it. They are just that good. We had a big remodel job done on our kitchen and Long's came out to do all the plumbing. The service again was outstanding. The general contractor's guys put in the new toilet and sink in our half bath. We weren't thrilled with their work. Long's guy knew that and did a double check on the toilet and sink for us. Highway robbery for $373.10 for 15 minutes to install a kitchen faucet !! And this did not include taking off the old one or the cost of the new faucet!! Never again !! Our kitchen sink was totally clogged. My husband took off the garbage disposal to see if that was the problem, but it was clear the drain line was clogged. My husband went on to Angie's List and Long's was recommended. My husband even bought the Angie's credit where you pay $200 upfront and you get $300 off the service call. Long's came out the same day. My husband did ask up front how much to reinstall the garbage disposal, install a new faucet, (which I had purchased from Home Depot), and snake out the drain. And he was quoted "around $600." Which sounded reasonable. BUT this was $600 in ADDITION to the $300 from Angie's list. This was not made clear until we got the bill. Long's did a good job of snaking out the drain, but the junior technician did not seem to understand how to hook up the electric on the garbage disposal. So my husband actually hooked up the wires and the ground wire on the disposal. All in all, the costs were outrageous for re-installing the disposal ($150.00) and installing the new faucet ($373.10). The costs for snaking the drain seemed reasonable ($341.67). read more

I called Long's Corp to fix a pretty simple issue with the toilet in my rental property. A previous company had replaced the toilet kit 3 weeks prior but used either a cheap part or did it wrong. Long's Corp communicated by email to keep me in the loop with scheduling the apptment with my tenant which I appreciated. They also promptly emailed me an itemized receipt of the work they did. They honored a discount via Angie's List even though all of our communications including payment was handled by phone. I think this type of work could be done for cheaper if I shopped around more but as a good landlord, I needed to get someone over there asap and this was convenient. I went to Yelp this time and found this company which had only two reviews (excellent) and thought I'd take a chance on them. The plumber was very knowledgeable, thorough and informative, I learned a lot from this visit. He was also very attuned to me as a customer even if I didn't always voice my concerns. The work was done quickly, enthusiastically and with care. As I rule I shy away from giving recommendations unless I'm really confident and sometimes this takes a few trials but in this case the service was superlative and an order of magnitude better than any I've ever experienced. This is the worst plumbing business I have ever dealt with. Paid $865 to have a water softener removed that was out-of-code and linked our freshwater and sewer lines together (long story). The company removed the softener and had to cut a 3-foot section out of our main sewer line and replace in order to do so. The plumber asked me to "stress test" the line after the repair was complete by flushing all the toilets and running water down the line... So, after a "stress test" that caused a sewer backup in our basement the Long's Corporation Plumber left me, my pregnant wife and 1-year-old son with SERVPRO's contact info and a promise to be back in the morning to snake out the mess they have caused... for $585 more dollars! I paid them for their services in removing the water softener, scheduled another Long's visit for the next day and awaited a SERVPRO visit later that night. Additionally, I followed their advice and utilized my homeowner's insurance policy - beginning the long process of over $5,000 worth of repairs in my basement due to damages to laminate flooring and sewage cleanup. The next day Long's sent a different crew to snake out the line and I said I would pay the $585 after speaking with the owner about my concerns with the stress test potentially causing the sewer leak. After hearing this the tech called the owner and they agreed to run a camera of the line at no charge, where he identified a couple portions of the line that were old and "bottomed out" or needed to be replaced. I thanked him and asked them to prepare a quote for fixing the issues with the cast iron pipe. They left and marked the bill that day as "customer refused to pay." Later that week I was on the phone with the owner of Long's Corporation and hoping to figure out an amenable solution before we put the $585 dollar check in the mail for the snaking service (the plumbing company admitting they may have had something to do with the sewage leak and working out a plan and cost to get the repairs done to the line). I was in for a surprise when the owner, Theresa, was very combative with both my wife and I. She began claiming that they were out "thousands" of dollars on the job, further arguing with me that it was impossible that Long's Corporation had anything to do with the sewage leak and claimed that she was an expert witness in Fairfax County Courts if we tried to take any legal action against the company. We ended up arguing about how many gallons of water a 4" diameter sewer pipe could hold and how it was impossible that the stress test could have had anything to do with the backup. We ended our conversation on bad terms and I was fairly upset at the lack of follow through on Long's Corporation's end (they never sent us a quote for the work to fix the sewer line despite our request) and at being belittled over the phone by the owner. We mailed Long's the check for $585 the next week; memo stating we had paid in full out of the "thousands" they were owed and decided to take our business to a plumbing company that actually cares about the customer instead of one that acted the way Long's had to me and my wife. Needless to say, I would not recommend Long's Corporation for any plumbing work whatsoever and hope that they can use this experience as a lesson learned for the future about how not to deal with customers. Businesses like this are only concerned about the bottom line and have no concern for the individuals with whom they are doing business. Their short-sightedness in heckling a customer for several hundred dollars for a patch fix (snaking the line) and failure to provide a quote for real fixes did end up costing them thousands of dollars of work in the long run (we ended up paying a different plumbing company, Hick's Plumbing, whom I would highly recommend, $6,500 to repair the one portion of the pipe that was bottomed out [Long's Corporation's junior plumber incorrectly identified two other problem spots in our sewer line]). In contrast, Hick's Plumbing sent the owner out to assist with the work itself. From troubleshooting to the actual digging of our lawn, to replacing the damaged portion of the line Tony, the owner, came by frequently to ensure things were going according to plan, even doing a fair amount of the work himself, further ensuring me that he wouldn't give his stamp of approval until things were fully fixed. They stayed late into the night and worked two more days than planned for the set price we had agreed upon to make sure everything was corrected before backfilling the hole. My AC was not working and on May 2, someone from Long's corporation named Marty came out. He told me the outside unit was broken and needs to be replaced. He said he would check on the parts warranty from the manufacturer and get back to me. A week passed and I didn't hear back. I called and spoke with Richard and he said he would send a message to Marty and get back to me. 2 days passed and still no communication. I called again and spoke to a woman and left Marty a message. More time passed and still no calls. In the meantime, me and my wife and my three children are all sleeping in the basement because the house is so hot. I called again and spoke with Richard again and he was able to finally get in touch with Marty. He told me that the compressor replacement is not covered under the manufacturer warranty and Marty had left me a voicemail explaining this. I checked my voicemail and I never received a message. I was worried because replacing the compressor would cost thousands of dollars. For this reason, I decided to get a second opinion. I called another company and scheduled a diagnosis. The guy came out and fixed the AC. The problem? It was low on refrigerant. A routine diagnosis and a routine problem. And Marty from Longs corporation wanted me to replace the entire compressor. Unbelievable. This company probably has their technicians working on commission and you are risking getting robbed if you decide to hire them. read more
