Since I mostly drink beer I am writing this review from mainly that point of view. This is a relatively small shop and the selections for beer/spirits definitely reflects that, this is a wine focused shop, and if you are in the market for wine then this is a good place to shop. They have a great variety of wine, actually better than most stores that several times the size, and the employees are very knowledgable and have lots of recommendations to help you find the perfect bottle. I do most of my wine shopping here and it has always been great. The beer and spirits selection is pretty mediocre, they carry the standards from each category, but you won't likely find something rare or coveted. The big issue, especially when it comes to their beer, is it just doesn't move on the shelves. I've actually stopped buying a lot of my beer from them, especially IPA's because most of the ones on the shelves are several months old and close to, or past the best by date. If you are looking for fresh craft beer, I would look elsewhere.

They served tastings of a few brands of whiskey and wine, along with pie; all were sample-size, 1-2 ounce servings. Everyone attending and the employees were cognizant of the packed space and moved around accordingly, as the store doesn't seem equipped to host large crowds. I did purchase some liquor not being sampled, and the employees were beyond helpful in recommending what liquors to consider in accordance to my diet requests. I appreciate such a spot as this that welcomes interacting with the community.

Nestled into a busy shopping center at 95th and Antioch this neighborhood liquor store is super convenient and has good selection for its size. To me, MDL is kind of a hybrid between a very small mom and pop and a mega liquor store like total wine. You're going to find a good selection of everything but you may not find EVERYTHING if that makes sense. The prices are similarly marked - cheaper than a super small place, but again hard to compete with a mega store. I go here mostly because it's close to my house and has decent selection, is local (I think!), and has friendly staff. They also usually carry seasonal releases from local breweries and distilleries which is nice to know you can count on them to have new releases in stock when they come out. Overall this is a solid place and I'm super grateful to have it in my backyard.

WARNING - This store ROUTINELY sells expired craft beer!! Over the last 6 months or so, I have…read morepurchased expired beer on six different occasions. Not just by a day or two, but WEEKS or even a MONTH past the expired date on the bottles. This issue is not limited to just one brewery/distributor, but something I've seen with many different labels in-store. A tell-tale sign is when they are still selling winter seasonals like the Deschuttes Red Chair in mid May! On four different occasions I have brought this to the attention to the store mgr on duty, to no avail. The latest incident involved expired Green Flash and Deschuttes labels. Buyer beware! They have a fairly decent selection (not as good as Lukas, but better than the typical neighborhood store) and fairly typical prices, but apathetic Management that would rather sell expired craft beer to us than deal with a clearly recurring problem. There are a couple of doors on another cooler area that have defective lighting and it has also been this way for at least a year. Displays on countertops are perpetually unpriced. If you want a price on them, you have to take it to the front for them to price it. I have complained about this for over a year, In terms of floor displays,there has been some improvement in product pricing. On my last trip, A worn, curled sign gave a price on small bottles of mixed drinks in a bin and at the register they charged me a higher price. The cashiers said they could not be responsible for the change in pricing. Flooring is dirty and deteriorating in some areas. It should have been replaced many years ago. This used to be a very hip and fun place that felt like it was run by your friends who partied, too. Now at least one of the cashiers does not even drink . From what I can tell there has been little maintenance and no upgrades since a change in ownership and store cleanliness seems to be an after thought. They do have a very good selection of whiskey. Cold beer, a clean store and merchandise that is priced seems like the most basic minimum for operating a retail liquor store. It feels like the ownership is uninvolved and just coasting on whatever momentum the previous ownership developped. I am no longer going to shop there. I have included picures of some no price displays, the floors, an open storeroom that is always visible as you enter, the defective cooler lighting and the big display of warm beer that is in a broken cooler.

The selection of nice wines is a bit sparce, but you'll find what you need.
