I've been going to this liquor store at least once a week since I moved to the neighborhood a year ago. At first it was great - staff was super nice, reasonable prices, and they had a decent selection of dark beers (a nice change of pace after moving here from IPA-centric Oregon). Over the past few months though, it seems like everything has changed. Summer *just* ended, so of course the darker beer selection slimmed down, but finding a decent affordable beer is hard here. Anything that looks like it would be good is $20-40 for a 4 pack (no exaggeration). I'd rather give my money directly to the brewery and drink at their bar for those prices. The older staff all of a sudden questions me on the validity of my age and ID, despite how often I come in (I'm 32, have smokers lines, and covered in tattoos - obviously I look over 21). They aren't nearly as friendly anymore. They have one beer that's $8/each for a standard sized can, but for some reason it's more expensive to buy a 4-pack at $40. I brought this up to a woman behind the counter, but she didn't react to it at all and didn't seem to care. I don't know what happened because I really liked this place, but I've had enough weird experiences lately that I'm going to start going elsewhere. read more

They have a great selection of Non Alcoholic choices ( N/A aperitifs, wine, sparking wine, etc ), in case someone is interested. Good prices too. read more

Dennis in particular has always been so helpful in finding what I need- one time I was so specific about a certain Malbec. Writing a review for a liquor store is like writing a review for my moms cooking. Even when it's only so-so, it's still pretty awesome. I like this place, they remember you, they have a TV by the door that the employees watch while they ring you up, and considering its paltry size, they have a great beer selection. This place does smell weird though. Musty. Not unlike my basement. It should be mentioned that a lot of their better beers are not refrigerated, they leave them on a shelf, which sucks when you want to-oh, I don't know-buy some beer, then drink it. I've seen beer here that I've not seen at much bigger stores, like Lucas Liquor, I just wish they could figure out how to keep their beer cold. It seems like maybe they could allow people to walk into their cooler like every other liquor store, they have cameras in their parking lot, why couldn't they put some in their walk-in cooler. Speaking of the parking lot, if you can, just for fun, at least once, park on the Wornall side. There is a crazy steep slope that makes you feel like your car is going to tip over when you go to pull onto Wornall. Maybe it's just me, but that quick little adrenaline rush before I get into a six pack makes my beer taste a little better. This is a small, neighborhood store, but it's run by people who have a clear love and understanding of beer, and god bless them for that. read more

Normally I stick to food spots, but I'm writing here because of the excellent selection of craft beers! I found some rare New Belgium's in here today and was thrilled with that. Counter person (probably owner?) was very friendly and showed me some of the good stuff. Also had a pretty standard array of normal beer and liquor. Great job! Parking is a little tight around the area, usually easier to get out by finding a side road out. read more

How can they possibly charge these outrageous prices for a 64 oz growler? Duhhh....like folks that is just a tad bit more than 5 beers, and it goes flat in a couple days after it is opened! So you will pay more for five beers that must be enjoyed in one day than a six pack that can be enjoyed over a week? read more

I am a previous customer of Mike's Wine and Spirits in Westport, they have the most friendly helpful staff. DO NOT waste your time going to the Mike's in Waldo. They are the most unfriendly staff starting with the door. A man was holding the door to make sure they maintained the new Covid regulations which I can totally understand but he was not the first thing I would want to encounter at any establishment. He had a terrible attitude I thought about just turning around and going to the next liquor store, but I was next so I waited patiently. I grabbed my items and proceeded to the check out where I again experienced a severe attitude issue with a younger red headed casheir. I of course had my I.D. ready to go but still felt rushed. No "thank you" or "see you next time". Just silence. Please be kind to your younger lady customers. We are all spending money and deserve the same hospitality as your "regular" buyers. Bottom line just go to the Mike's in Westport where they will treat you with kindness and a smile in difficult times like these. read more

Open 365 days a year! Enough said - I love them! Besides Mike's always being open their bottom shelf facade does not do justice to just how much craft beers, fine wines and top shelf liquors they carry. I go here for all of my craft beer needs and the latest releases of Boulevard and Schlafly. The guys at the counter are very knowledgeable and offer great suggestions when I am at a loss due to all of the variety. They now have the "Build Your Own" 6-packs which allow me to try many different beers without buying the whole six-pack. Mike's is my go-to liquor store no matter what I am in the market for. read more

My favorite liquor store! This has been a neighborhood and family favorite for years. The guys here are super duper friendly and helpful. They have a great selection of craft beers, wines, and the hard stuff too. They get you in and out fast and the new renovations are nice! Everything is laid out nicely and you can easily catch on to where things are. They were even giving out Royals cookies from The Classic Cookie one day. My dudes! read more

I mostly frequent Mike's yearly for kegs of Märzen when I throw an annual Oktoberfest bash and they make the process pretty easy from start to finish, including being able to order from various breweries I ask about. They also carry some Buffalo Trace distillery whiskeys along with my utility bourbon which is about all I drink when I drink to drink. Last couple of times I was in they were out of the particular bourbon I was after but that's pretty typical of the high end stuff. Staff is helpful. I don't drink wine or really much in the way of other spirits or beer so I can't really comment on their selection in those areas. I like that they're local: they aren't the closest liquor store to me but they're close enough that the commute is a bit of a wash either direction. Their store on the corner of 85th & Wornall is a bit of an icon when coming up Wornall. Parking along Wornall can be tricky and feel dangerous, which is appealing if you're into that sort of thing. They have more parking east of the entrance too. read more

The guys who run this place are awesome. I bought some wine that had turned and they gave me an even exchange with no hassle. The place has a good selection and you can watch TV while you wait if there is a line. I have never noticed a musty, basement smell. read more

I used to go to Royal Liquors, but was driven away by their grumpy employees that seemed to think customers were a burden. I happened upon this place about a year ago and they've been my go-to spot ever since. The staff is good-natured and knowledgable. The craft beer selection is immense. The prices are reasonable, and if by chance they don't have something I'm looking for they'll order it. I'll never go anywhere else when I'm in south KC read more
