This is an Indian fusion restaurant owned by a couple of brits. The chef is an Indian who used to work at a famous hotel in Bombay. It is certainly not your usual Indian fair so if you feel adventurous, this may be a place for you. The ambiance is quite hip and modern, an upbeat vibe if you will. The food contains items not usually part of Indian cuisine such as beef and pork, nonetheless they are cooked with clear Indian influences. Even though this is an Indian fusion restaurant, the food was not lacking In spice or quantity. The portions were decent. The dal was tasty, and the beef kebab was also quite delicious. I would have loved to see more sauce, however. The menu could also use some enhancements and additions. All in all, I enjoyed my dinner! read more

Mumbai-focused flavours with a modern London feel. This is a 2-story establishment with 2 large bars and shared seating arrangements. There's a large selection of tapas (and plenty of vegetarian options), as well as a great drink and wine menu. If you're in a group of 4, I'd suggest ordering maybe 6-8 tapas depending on how hungry you are. The prices are a bit high for the portions, but also I had THE BEST fried chicken I've had since living in southern US, so I'm a bit torn. In addition to the fried chicken, we ordered the cultured butter bread (meh - order a different naan instead), bhel puri (YUM), butternut squash (decent), lamb neck (very good), and a few other dishes. Everything was delicious, but I'd suggest the fried chicken and bhel puri above everything. The service here lacked greatly, and the noise was a bit much, but the food made the meal drastically better. I'd recommend coming here on a date or in a pair, but not for larger parties since it gets too loud. read more

Kricket is an innovative restaurant in that it tries to serve Indian food in a tapas style. The dishes are Indian with a bit of a twist to them. They keep changing their menu, so I'm not sure if you will find the same food that we did. Seating is mostly along their room length bar with a couple of tables on the side. They also have more seating space downstairs. However, as all the cooking takes place behind the bar, I'd recommend getting a seat there if possible. We had a lecture to get to, so while the cocktails looked excellent, we stuck to the mocktails. I loved the tamarind drink, it wasn't too sweet and the tango was worked as a good refreshing palate cleanser between dishes. The bhelpuri arrived first. Different from any I've before(across the length and breadth of india) but tasty. The scallops with Goan sausage were good, but I've had much better (Fatty bao in Bangalore do an amazing job of this combination) The beef telengana pickle was tasty, but a bit chewier than I expected. (Not tough, just slightly chewy - most Indian protein pickles end up with super soft meat/fish/prawns) The fried chicken was the star. Beautiful flavours and textures. The mussels were very good and the kulchas were a great accompaniment to mop up the masala. The shahi tukda was unlike any others I've eaten before. It was a cross between a shahi tukda, a brioche French toast and bread & butter pudding, if that makes any sense. The only warning I would give is that portion sizes on each item differ greatly. The mussels and chicken portions were huge compared to some of the other dishes. So just be aware when ordering. Service is very fast, so you can order in waves. read more

New Indian restaurant near Piccadilly Circus. It has mainly counter seats with open kitchen with a few booth / tables. It is very modern and pleasant space. Great for informal dinning. The menu is very small and they are Indian inspired small dishes. I tried a few dishes and one kulcha. They were all very edible but must say nothing was that striking and memorable. Also I could not get good harmony between dishes... I left not full but just felt I was done eating there.. As it is just open, hopefully the menu will evolve to become better and more refined. read more

It's not a traditional sit down Indian spot, but more-like Indian spices and flavors meets a Spanish tapas bar vibe. The best twist on a Sunday roast I've ever eaten! I booked a surprise reservation at Kricket's Brixton location for my boyfriend's birthday, and it was the perfect place to go. Firstly, I requested that I'd like our server to wish my bf a Happy Birthday upon entering the restaurant, just for a special touch. Not only did our server wish him a Happy Birthday, but so did every other staff member we encountered! We were shocked and happy (though I think my bf was a little embarrassed... oops!), and it made our experience really special and personalized. They didn't have to go the extra mile, but they did, and it was wonderful. After entering the restaurant, we were led to the main dining room, an open space with huge windows overlooking the street. We could even hear the rumble of the trains from Brixton station. I liked the light and airy atmosphere. We ate lunch on a Sunday afternoon, and I cannot recommend it more. After we each sipped our Bloody Maharaja and a Mango Lassi, our waitress explained that the menu rotates each weekend, and revealed that we arrived on her favorite day--the highlight of the menu was a lamb roast. The roast was huge, and after a few delicious starters (my favorite was the steak tartare), we actually couldn't finish it. The lamb was tender and its savory flavor paired well with sweet ingredients like pomegranate. We left stuffed, happy, and satisfied with our choice. Well worth the price. read more

Wow. Just wow. This is in no way traditional Indian food -- head to Brick Lane if that's what you're after. But if you're after inventive, surprising takes on Indian Fare look no further than Kricket. It's a bustling little restaurant with communal tables and a homey feel, so if you're looking for a quiet, private place for a date this is certainly not it. I went with a big group and was able to try most of the menu. Might as well start with the highlights, eh? The lamb rib was PHENOMENAL. Fall off the bone tender with a bright mint sauce. Not to be missed. The raw salmon was an unexpected take on a tartare, with a surprising pop of mustard. The bhel puri is spicy and fresh, with a little crunch, and the saphire pakoras have a wonderful tamarind zing, brought to life further by a creamy mayonnaise. The hake was the closest thing we had to a curry, and although I was suspicious of fish curry, it was light and delicious. The date kulcha bread was an indulgent treat. The only things I would advise against are the crab and brown butter kulcha bread and the butter garlic crab. Neither tasted fresh, and were just overwhelmingly crabby. Everything else was so great, though, that nobody really minded. read more

Yum! A great spin on Indian food with a selection of delicious tapas-style plates. As a pescatarian, there were plenty of dishes to share amongst 3 of us. Kricket also had a nice selection of wines as well as a "spiced chai with rum" glass of deliciousness. They don't take reservations for small groups, so walk in early if you can as the queue does grow around 6:30pm. I recommend the pumpkin dish while it's in season and the monkfish! read more

First time at Kricket. Just in London visiting. Was looking for Indian fare and found Kricket on Yelp. When we got here I was expecting traditional Indian food but Kricket is more of a fusion style Indian food. We let our waiter, Antonio, select the dishes for us and he did not disappoint. The five dishes he selected were an unbelievable mix of flavors that took my breath away. So so good. I've never been to a restaurant that left me speechless, but Kricket absolutely did. If you haven't tried it I highly recommend it and if I'm ever back in London this will be my first stop. Delicious food of which the fried chicken was my favorite, followed by the lamb chops and the smoked sweet potato. Of the non alcoholic beverages my favorite was the Darjeeling iced tea, even though it was quite sweet it fit well to the food. I tried once before to come to Kricket, but that was an ill-advised attempt around 8 PM on a Friday night, and the estimated wait time was 2 hours (they do take your name and text you when your table is ready, though, so you can go grab a drink somewhere). This time it was early Monday evening on a sunny day in London, and with everyone else out enjoying the good weather, my friend and I were able to grab 2 seats at the counter without a problem. They recommend 6 dishes between two people, but given my friend was vegetarian, I struggled to finish two meat plates + bites of the vegetarian food, so I think even 5 plates could work. We got the bhel puri, samphire pakoras, and pumpkin in makhani sauce, paired with the butter kulcha, then the Keralan fried chicken and the lamb chops for me. The samphire pakoras and the Keralan fried chicken are the most well-known of their dishes, and they did not disappoint. The pakoras are not what you expect pakoras to look like, as it is just battered bits of samphire and not the large round balls you normally see. But they are very unique (who would have thought of doing that with samphire?!) and came with an amazing chilli mayonnaise sauce. The Keralan fried chicken was a huge portion of about 8 pieces, and also cacme with a great curry leaf mayonnaise. I ended up having to take half the plate home, since it was so generous... Of the rest, the bhel puri was very good, lamb chops are always a winner, and the pumpkin and makhani sauce was perfect for our butter kulcha (similar to a naan), since it was the only dish that was sauce based. I would definitely come again to try the rest of the menu, as we didn't even get to any of the fish dishes this time! It's easiest to go with 2 people so you can sit at the counter, but there are a number of booths that fit four and I'm told there is more room upstairs. Since we were at the counter, service was quick and the food came out promptly; we were done with our meal within 45 minutes! read more
