Well what can I say stopped in to a family feel diner. Met family had a taste of the best blt I've had in awhile. Good fries to share and coffee that was home dropped. The service was real and friendly. I will return hungry.

It was my first time here. I've driven past it so many times. The place was amazing. The burger I had was juicy sweet and savory. The menu was a pretty cool newspaper. Pretty quick service. Good ambiance. Great place to go with friends for lunch or breakfast Will be going back for sure. 10/10

First off, this place has fantastic service. Everyone was absolutely nice and warm to us. We had no wait for a table which felt surprising for what seemed like a full house. My husband chose Kriner's for breakfast today after having tried them a week ago and having good things to say. We shared Ted's breakfast and the two of us did not finish. What an incredible value. It is very likely we will soon return. This is the kind of place you can take your family from out of town who want a great local spot for comfort food. My two favorite things: seeing a glass ketchup bottle in who knows how long, and finally a restaurant with a flavorful sausage gravy.

Wonderful gem of a restaurant. Great service. Coffee always full. Food is terrific. Don't be fooled be the outside. Worth a stop.

As mentioned by many Yelpers, Kriners is located on a one-way and can be hard to access. Parking and exiting is also a pain. If you can get thru all that, inside, you'll find it feels a lot like visiting someone's home. I'd describe it as a low volume intimate diner. Although we are always welcomed by staff, and feel comfortable because of the staff, families like mine, (minority + disabled child unable to mask his Autism), definitely stick out like a sore thumb here. Come for the good eats, but don't be surprised if you get unwanted stares. I was born and raised here, so I'd say I'm used to it. Kriners has THEE best honey mustard and homemade jams, as well as the THEE best cinnamon rolls (try them warm). Highly recommend. We have never had a bad breakfast here. It's the other stuff that keeps us from visiting more often.

Do note that they did not open until 8 AM in mid-May Food/Taste/Flavor: 4/5 - (I) Tony's Chicken fried steak & eggs with sourdough bread was flavorful but could have used more gravy (S) Reindeer sausage skillet was a bit bland at first but the flavor comes from the sausage itself which is quite salty. Tasted similar to most other sausages. Interesting fact is that it's most likely caribou rather than reindeer but the two are similar animals but located in different continents and developed under different geographical circumstances Ambience: 5/5 - interesting decoration with lots of things to look at/read. Comfortable booths along the wall and plenty of tables for additional customers Service: 5/5 - quick friendly service. Not too much conversation but we got what we needed. Seems like the other customers were locals as they chatted with the server Value for price: 5/5 - good food, large serving, and quick service. What more could you ask for?

BEST BREAKFAST GRAVY IN ANCHORAGE! *Possibly Alaska!
    Hansel M.

Hands down. This is the BEST BREAKFAST to be had in Anchorage, maybe even Alaska... NO QUESTIONS ASKED! This place keeps it real, huge in portions, and really know how to season their food! The ambiance is homie, and laid back, and the service is amazing. 10 out of 10! Trust me when I say, you need to stop looking and GO HERE!

Great family owned business with really good home-cooked food. If you have room after dinner, you must have a piece of pie!!

I sat at the counter. Service was immediate and so friendly. The restaurant quickly filled with tourists and locals in the early morning. I loved that everyone coming in the door was greeted like family. I judge restaurants by their chicken friend steak. This was one of the better ones I've had in a long time. The gravy wasn't the best I've had, but still good. The chicken friend steak, though, yummy! Crispy, juicy, great flavors. Grits are grits, but the eggs were well-cooked, and they added cheese as ordered. I am a huge sourdough fan, and this bread did not disappoint. Just the right amount of tang. Bring your cholesterol meds because everything was served with a lot of butter! The restaurant motif is warm Alaskan log cabin. Stuffed animal heads and antlers hang on the walls. Everything is wooden and warm. Just what you would expect in an Alaskan diner. We came back on a subsequent day when we were back in Anchorage. I had the corned beef hash and more of that great sourdough toast. I know I'll be back next time I'm in town... maybe for lunch.

I was honestly really excited going in because I love an old-school diner moment... but this one was a bit of a miss for me. My food was fine, nothing terrible, just not something I'd go out of my way to come back for. The biggest letdown though was the biscuit and gravy. The gravy was very bland and had a strong uncooked flour taste, to the point where it just didn't feel worth continuing to eat after a couple bites, which was disappointing. Breakfast is usually my go-to at places like this, but if I ended up back here, I'd probably skip the breakfast menu and try something else instead. Overall, great service and a welcoming, local feel, just didn't quite hit for me food-wise this time.

I lived in Spenard for over a…read moredecade and this is an anchor in the neighborhood, in fact we ran into a 90 year old friend while we were there. But every time we visit, it reinforces why its not my jam. First, let me explain my bias- Im from New Jersey. New Jersey is.the diner capital of the world. As one of the smallest states, it still managed to have 130 24-hour diners while I was a teenager. You could get an quality meal that included a drink, entree, 2 sides and a dessert for what was the equivalent for less than an hours worth of work at the time. For even less you could get an enormous breakfast with toast, pancakes and 2 eggs, 2 meats.and a coffee. And it was good. And the variety was just wow... And Leroys just.... isn't they do sandwiches and breakfast. And its not cheap. You can't get a hot, affordable dinner here...they have a very limited list of hot dinners.. I got a rueben and salad. It was fine. Had I not taken a picture of it I wouldn't even have remembered what I got. It was not memorable. My husband bot breakfast. I thought his over easy eggs looked a bit overcooked. But he said his pancakes were the best he had in a very long time. My biggest issue is cleanliness. The places is a massive and I mean MASSIVE HOSEDOWN. Same reason I won't eat at Kava's anymore. Dust and grease are not a good combo. Mixed bag here i think. The locals support it because it's a real mom and pops where they congregate. But it does leave a lot to be desired. If you're not from here, I'm not sure that I can say its worth a visit unless they bring back their 24 hour service that made them unique.

I would say my steak would have given Whiskey and Ramen a run for their money. A true medium rare and juicy. Nearly tender enough to cut with a fork. The Scallops. I don't usually care for scallops but I will say there was a perfect sear and they were not over cooked. I do think some of the items were on the pricier side for what you are receiving as well as considering it's a student run lab, and not an operating restaurant. Although the restaurant is in more of a cafeteria setting thru do a very nice job of making it feel more high end with their table settings & fresh florals. The students are also dressed very professionally, and the menu is a great selection of higher end items. My favorite part of the meal were the desserts (Lady Palmer & Black cherry chocolate cake). They were exemplary quality, and I feel were restaurant ready. For our entrees I ordered the duck breast, and black cod. I really enjoyed the basil & pea puree that came with the cod, and for the duck breast I thought it was seasoned well though I would've preferred it a little less well done. For appetizers I ordered prawn fritters & a bread plate. I really enjoyed the different components of the bread plate; my favorite being the whipped honey feta. The fritters were tasty, but I wish they had more prawn pieces in them. This restaurant is a learning experience for the students so you should not go into this meal expecting 5 star perfection, but it's a great way to get involved in helping to educate the culinary students in a real life setting. The meal includes comment cards that they ask you fill out, which will really help the students improve. Lucy's was a very fun & unique experience, and I hope to be able to get a reservation again next year!
