It was hard not to think PIE when I walked in because they have some interesting looking ones on display along with some huge cinnamon rolls. I asked my server to pick a piece for me and she brought me coconut cream pie with a great cup of coffee. How different is a piece of pie than a short stack of pancakes, after all? I had lunch there today (September 7, 2022) and was disappointed. I have eaten at Kriners probably 10 times in the last 12 months. This experience was very disappointed. I ordered the child's cheeseburger and asked for Corn Fritters ($10.99). The waitress was Angie ? (the older of the 2 ladies) and she was a bit surly. I declined the coffee ($3.99 with a meal). The burger came not with fritters as ordered, but with potato tots. Angie never stopped by to ask if everything was OK (a tradition in Anchorage Restaurants), The meat in the burger was full of gristle which I pointed out to Angie. I run a B&B and know I can make a full 12 cup pot of coffee for $.40. I also know that Jackie's Place only charges $1.50 for coffee. Disappointed and I am unlikely to return. Jim P read more

I have to update this because I brought my wife and three (well behaved) boys in and the server just seemed ANNOYED with us the whole time. I never got a refill for my coffee, my wife didn't get a refill for her soda until I flagged her down and asked... we seemed to get on this lady's nerves with any interaction - NOT the usual service we have become accustomed to. (We had a baby with us, but we cleaned up whatever he spilled, ourselves - he didn't even peep while we were seated) The food was fine, but the service left a bad taste. There is no one to greet you when you come in, if your new you stand there waiting until someone tells you seat yourself. At the recommendation of a local we had to give this place a try and we were so glad we did! The service was great! Fast and friendly. The food is what really sets this place apart. The portions were large and everything we had tasted really good. I had to try the donut bacon cheeseburger, which the server rx'd. I wasn't sure what to think after reading what it had but thought I had to try it, it wouldn't be on the menu if people didn't like it. The flavors all worked well together, I liked getting the sweet of the donut with the savory/saltiness of the bacon and burger. I opted for salmon chowder instead of fries which was also tasty. I was really satisfied with my meal, as was everyone else at our table. We ended up here on their 1 year anniversary by chance and they were giving out free slices of cake. There was no way I had enough room to eat anymore so we decided to share a piece and force it down, even their cake was awesome! I could imagine the rest of their desserts being really good too. He's eaten @ the sister location that just serves burgers & pies (next to Bass Pro Shop) & he thought it was just alright, so we decided to go to the actual restaurant that has a full menu. I ordered the meatloaf & my hubs ordered the Andy's Awesome burger w/ the tater tots. Can I just say, tater tots make me happy! It's so nostalgic & reminds me of my elementary school days, eating in the cafeteria with those lunch trays! I only had a couple bites of his burger (and if y'all know me & my past reviews, burgers are everything in my book), and it was really good. The jalapeño cheese w/ the special sauce + the bacon gives it a good balance of a mild heat & sweetness. My meatloaf was HUGE (see pix I posted) & I was only able to eat half of it. There's is a little different because they don't use a typical ketchup sauce, but a gravy. Lastly, can I just say how CLEAN it is in there? My hubs & I always look at that when walking into a restaurant. We even noticed that they wipe down the window sill! I'm a NEAT FREAK, so when I see things like that, it's always a good thing. Fun little local fave! Pancakes are insane and so tasty. Creamy, buttery but still cakey. I have been known to replace my burger with a side of a pancake XD. This time we went a little later, late brunch if you will. Fiancé had the corned beef hash, eggs, and toast. Super super tasty corned beef. Not too salty and really well spiced. I had the build your own omelet with hash browns and toast. Flavor was a little lacking in the omelet. Wish they had spinach. But I chose cheese, ham, tomatoes, and reindeer sausage. Hash browns are a little dry but tasty, not overly greasy. And can we talk about the toast options?! We love rye! They also have the option to add pork sausage gravy to your omelet. EXCELLENT IDEA. Our group of people had our choice to dine anywhere in Anchorage. We had done upscale for the previous two nights, and the suggestion was "comfort" food. We pulled up Yelp for suggestions. My son said " I've heard good things about Kriners", so we went. The parking lot looked a little unloved. Inside, however, we were met with warmth and a friendliness that is rare anywhere. The food was brilliant. The meatloaf was not a slice; by most standards it was the entire meatloaf. The burger was so fantastic that I'm not sure what magic was performed, but I want the spell. The service was brilliant. Heather was honestly engaging and made us feel like the most important customers in the world. Super professional, too! She knew each item by number and verified the components back to each person-- impressive! There should be a big sign on the outside which says: Where Locals Eat I'm hypothesizing, but I'd recon that most everyone who eats here has wonderful thoughts of Kriners. read more

Kriner's is a true homestyle diner. We flew in from Juneau and needed to fill the bellies of some football players, which they did with Ted's Big Breakfast. The portions were generous, and the boys loved the food. I got a yummy low carb omelet. Angela was an excellent server--so friendly and hospitable. I am a big fan of Kriner's Burgers & Pies so I decided to finally try the Diner out. I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and absolutely love the format of menu especially with the items named after family members and the back stories. The service was not fantastic but for sure was not poor, they have Diet Mountain Dew which in my book is a huge plus.....but it was 2.99 for a soda, and yes you get refills but IMHO that is seriously overpriced. As for the food....the portions are insanely huge which I suppose is nothing to complain about but the prices were quite high to support the massive quantities. If you want a burger or chicken sandwich stick to the Burgers & Pies joint but if you want a huge plate of decent grub this might be right up your alley. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with Kriner's Diner. It is a nice, warm, family-friendly restaurant with plenty of options for all. I think what people would be most interested to read is that Kriner's offers breakfast all day. They have some amazing options - too many for me to try during my infrequent visits to the city. Of course, like any good diner they offer plenty of greasy "diner" food...burgers, fries, chicken, steak, sandwiches, sides, etc. Above all, the food was delicious. The four of us dining all thoroughly enjoyed our dishes. What I really like is the fact that this is a family business. In their newspaper menus (another flavorful touch), the business owner discusses in detail his family, what brought him [back] to Alaska to start his own restaurant, names dishes after his family members, etc. He also caters to the tourist population by listing a number of fun Alaska facts. The service is very much "ok." It isn't fine dining, so don't expect the wait staff to cater to your every wish, but you can expect refills on water and for your food to be delivered. Very much average, but certainly adequate. I would return again if in the area. read more

The place seemed over staffed and one particular employee was constantly standing around singing badly and causing a distraction by milling about behind the counter and crowding the other workers space. The real gem are the fries at Kiner's Burgers and Pies in the Glenn Square! Now, to be fair rating the burgers at the Glenn Square location is kind of pointless as YOU make that burger on your own based on your preferences. To be honest I don't like french fries. I'm more and onion ring sort of man. These fries make it off the plate before I even touch the burger and I came for the burger. I know this is supposed to be a comment on Kriner's Diner and like I said before, the food, service and prices are great. Eat there.
