Tasty Cajun chicken for a convenience store--reasonable pricing as well. Potato wedges were fresh, spicy, and hot!

Great food! Great vibes! Great Service!…read more A soul food restaurant, if not one of the best; may be THE best in the Denver metro area, and the state for that matter. The food is a fine example of excellent soul food done with love through culinary knowledge and experience. We ordered the Oxtail plate with greens and yams, which included cornbread smathered in sweet, buttery love; Catfish with greens and mac and cheese. Nothing was overly salty or too much seasoning. I am pretty picky when it comes to soul food, and am now a regular customer.

Real Soul Food: Blazing Chicken Shack II…read more Listen, if you're looking for that authentic, seasoned-to-the-bone flavor in Denver, look no further. Blazing Chicken Shack II is officially in my rotation, and for good reason. I've gone through the menu, and I'm telling you right now, they are putting their soul into this kitchen. Check the breakdown on why this spot is a Denver staple: The Wing Dinner: Pure perfection. The wings are top-tier and easily some of the best you're going to find in the city. The crunch, the seasoning, the moisture, it's all there. The Catfish: Man, listen. This is top three in Denver, period. If you think otherwise, go argue with yo momma, don't argue with me! The Sides: Everything is cooked with straight-up love and grace. The okra? It tastes exactly like my grandma used to make it. That's that nostalgic flavor you just can't fake. The Wait: Look, let's keep it 100, be prepared to wait. They are cooking everything fresh to order. If you show up during peak hours, just know it's going to be a minute. Quality takes time, fam. The Vibe: My only real gripe is I wish they were open longer, but I get the mission. When you're serving heat like this, you go until it's gone. Pro-Tip for the Inner Circle: Don't just show up and wait in line. Order online first, then give them a quick call to modify it for dine-in. By the time you pull up, your food is ready, and you can go straight to a table and start grubbing while it's fresh and steaming. Final Verdict: This is a Mile High favorite. If you haven't been, you're late to the party!

It didn't feel like an old soul food cafe at all, but a lot more modern/industrial chic(?). We didn't set a reservation so we had to wait (about 15 minutes, not too bad) but the odd thing is, I don't really know why we had to wait. There were empty tables when we came in, when we got seated, and when we left. Waiter was nice enough, everyone was very nice. Food and drink? Sandwiches were all affordably priced, drink was not so much. We got a coke and a glass of Kool aid, $4 apiece, and no refill. A single glass of Kool aid for $4? 2-quarts doesn't cost a dollar to make! The fish sandwich was good. The fries were good, and my kid loves the Mac and cheese. I had high hopes for my chicken sandwich because I could tell they breaded it, and it wasn't something out of the freezer. Kudos. Problem was, it wasn't a whole breast. It was thin sliced then breaded. Half the size of what I could get at Popeyes for $5. If I'm going to a diner (which it was last time I was here) I want Mom's cooking. Not $4 for Kool aid and $8 for half a chicken sandwich, fries cost extra. Okay, but I don't need to rush back.

Drinks are in cans. The vibes here are so cool! It's a house turned into a Mac shack and it just has a fun vibe to it! There isn't a bad seat! Eating outside would be wonderful! We chose to go upstairs and inside and that was also great! It feels like going to your aunt or grandmas house when you were little! Just such cool vibes! I saw they have some merch, but would love to see some stickers!! The service here was very friendly! Understand they are making everything from your order, so it does take time! Don't come here if you are in a major rush! You can't rush perfection! But these guys felt like coming to visit with family! My boyfriend and I got the Mac and cheese flights! I highly recommend that! You get to pick 3 of their Mac and cheese options! I did the jerk chicken, curry chicken and buffalo blue cheese! They were all amazing! My boyfriend got the teriyaki chicken, buffalo chicken and pulled bbq! All of those were phenomenal too!! I would absolutely come back here and I DEFINITELY recommend it!!

A friend from Canada is in town for a visit, and we thought Mac Nation would be a fun choice…read more We arrived at 6:05. The "hostess" met us immediately and gave us the schpiel about how they're a scratch-made kitchen and the wait time for food was 40 minutes. That we could "eat-in" as long as we were finished by 7, closing time. It felt really odd and unwelcoming. So basically, shove it down your throat in 15 minutes or get the food to go. I feel like a better approach would be after 6pm, all food is to-go. We're hurrying, deciding on a dish, and choose the 3 Flight, only to be told they don't serve that on weekends (then note that on the board!). Then, to top it off, they don't take cash. Sheesh. And I would like to choose my own tip amount, thank you. By the time I paid for my food, I was wishing I had chosen another place. My friend asked for an extra container to split the food portion. The same hostess was kind of a smart Alec about it. She must have had a date at 7:30. By the time we got our food, it was, indeed 15 minutes to eat what we could. The same hostess was cleaning and stacking chairs while we ate. The Mac was delicious. But the experience wasn't. It's been a few years since we ate at Mac Nation. I think it's safe to say it'll be more than that before we're back.
