Just got into town and was ready to try out a locally-owned restaurant with an elevated, casual vibe. This did not disappoint. Upon arrival, I noticed the patio was filled with lovely people in good company and conversations with their to go boxes of food and drinks having a grand time. It was such a positive environment. The weather couldn't be more perfect. It was crisp, comfortable and not humid! Once we figured out where we were going (the KR Steakhouse is next door and we were approaching the KROG's sign from the parking lot) Sarah, the host, greeted us warmly. While it was going to be about a 30-minute wait to get seated inside (which was our preference since we wanted to experience the restaurant inside as well) we could order drinks and peruse the menu while waiting. There was a patio table available so we chose to sit there and our drinks were delivered promptly. Such a nice way to wait for a table! It didn't even feel like we were waiting. Once we went inside and were seated, we had a corner table. It was a cozy spot and while it was flanked by other tables, we didn't feel our conversation and personal space, or others' for that matter, were on top of each other. The music was eclectically top notch in the selections too. Glenn, our server, was a pleasure. He had excellent suggestions and stayed on top of our drinks and needs. We felt adventurous (and quite ravenous) so we chose two appetizers knowing we could take the pizza back to our hotel if we got too full to finish it. Smart move. The appetizers were out of this world! We chose the Burrata and Cauliflower Picatta. The flavor profile for each dish was delicious. The buratta's strawberry rhubarb compote mixed with the candied pecans and the lavash crackers with salt on them was such a creative combination. Then with the Cauliflower Picatta- the way they mixed the creamy lemon flavors with the capers and everything else in the dish was perfection! We were getting quite full at this point and still hadn't started our pizzas. Which, by the way, everything was served in perfect timing. We never felt rushed. How refreshing for a hopping place! Glenn suggested we get two 12" pizzas so we could experience a little more of their offerings. So we obliged! We ordered the Isabella and the Divola. Once again, great choices. We each had one slice of each pizza and were full! And by the way, the crust of the pizzas is homemade as well and you could taste it! Smelled so good too! (I love a fine dough that has been prepped and allowed to rise to perfection!) We got a wonderful surprise at the end of our meal from Glenn with two scoops of gelato: hazelnut and (we couldn't remember what it technically was called) blueberry lemon meringue to top off our wonderful meal. Such an appreciated touch! Apparently the pastry chef at the KR Steakhouse is worthy of a ton of awards bc whoever it is passed with flying colors bc my ice cream/gelato aficionado of a husband couldn't stop raving over it. No joke. We wish we could get some to bring back to our hometown. As we wrapped up, Glenn boxed up our pizza for the hotel and we left with our bellies full, a smile on our faces and a resolve to return again when we are back in town. Heading back to our vehicle, I noticed the parking lot lighting was excellent since it was dark out. Such a wonderful way to start off our weekend. read more

There's plenty of parking in the plaza for self-parking. The restaurant is walk-in only, with no reservations. We arrived close to 9 PM on a Saturday night, and it wasn't too crowded, so we were able to get seats at the bar. We had: - Coal Roasted Artichoke Hearts - Divola pizza - Half surf clam and half Quattro Formaggi pizza All the dishes tasted really good, especially the Coal Roasted Artichoke Hearts. The service was fast and friendly, and the bartender was great at making my drink. The pizza size is just right, and the crust isn't overly charred or bitter like at some other places. Overall, we had a lovely experience. I'll definitely come back when I'm in the mood for good pizza or want to grab takeout. read more

Solid 4.5! Outstanding service. Friendly, welcoming and all around great vibe. Jessica our server was exuberant and genuinely sweet and helpful. The restaurant is a small intimate yet fun space located in a more upscale strip mall/plaza. I actually hate to even call it a strip mall because it's much nicer & pleasant and parking is plentiful! Now for the food...we ordered the artichokes, which I was not a fan of because they tasted canned. I was expecting a wood charred artichoke with a bit more smoke too. But the pizza was hands down the best pizza in Atlanta! Yep, I said it! We ordered a half Isabella (pepperoni) and half Krog (sausage & onion). The crust was lightly charred and crisp with a slight chew and the toppings extremely high quality and tasty! I am so glad we ordered a large so we can enjoy a nice snack later! In the last 2 months we've had pizza in NYC, Chicago, LA & San Francisco and my husband and I agree the pizza at Krog Bar was markedly superior! I don't think I've ever sent something back to the kitchen only to turn around and give the restaurant a positive review. I'm about to. On our first visit we ordered the much-acclaimed Krog pizza with sausage, fennel and onion. We all know how much restaurant chefs love salt. In this case, the sausage was inedible. It was salt-lick salty and we couldn't get past that. Obviously some people do. In fact, two couples beside us wolfed theirs down. The kind waitress (kudos to her) offered to take it back to the kitchen and have another pizza prepared for us. Of course we protested, because we're pretty nice people, but finally agreed to take a margherita pizza home. Now we're talking. And saying good things. Wonderfully charred crust, fresh basil, a balanced sauce and fresh mozzarella. A Chianti from our cellar, and all was forgiven. We want this small jewel to be around a while. There are only a few tables inside, but there are tables outside. I don't use the word 'cute' but it's cute. If you do order the Krog pizza (and why not?) maybe try it with the hot honey. The sweetness may balance out the salt. I'm not readily buying into that, but perhaps we were there on a particularly salty night. We'll be back. Just well-hydrated beforehand. read more

Had a really great experience at Krog Bar - excited it's moved to the neighborhood! Because the space is fairly intimate, the restaurant doesn't accept reservations - walk in only. While you should expect a wait, they make the experience very enjoyable with a patio waiting area where you're able to order drinks from the bar. For food we started with the artichokes as recommended by our server - so delicious. However the highlight truly was the pizza. We each got our own 12inch pizza and had enough to enjoy the leftovers the next day as well! To round out the already amazing experience, I truly appreciated KR working his way around the restaurant, making sure all the guests were enjoying themselves and had everything they needed. read more

Pizza might be the best in Atlanta. New Haven style. Some might consider it a bit salty, but we loved it. Very small place, so be prepared to wait outside for a table. Don't go with a large group. You can get drinks while outside waiting which is great. read more

I really wanted to like Krog bar. After being so highly anticipated I finally made it in to check them out. The restaurant was empty besides one table outside when we arrived so it was certainly a laid back time for staff. As far as the space it's a cute and cozy space. Maybe 50'seats total and has the potential for a nice date night We started with the burrata which comes with burrata, figs, hazelnuts, and saba. When ordered we assumed it came with a transport vessel. Ie. Bread, toast, cracker, focaccia, anything. Well it did not. Maybe that was our mistake but normally when burrata is served it comes with a bread. So we sat there like maybe the bread is coming but it never did so we just ate the dish. Flavor wise it wasn't bad but it needed a toasty bread for sure. Eating it with a spoon/fork didn't do the job. For pizza we ordered a margarita and a K.r.o.g. Which is sausage, onion, tomato. The margarita was extremely bland and the sauce, which should be the star, fell flat. I had to ask for salt to even attempt to make it up. The K.r.o.g thanks to the toppings was a little better but again was almost under seasoned. Which made both kind of ehh to eat. I think we each ate one slice and boxed the rest. Then was the mortazza. Mortadella sandwich. Again maybe my expectations were wrong but the bread wasn't warmed and it was all just kind of room temperature. Everything took a little to come out so I expected fresh, hot, seasoned food. Not to mention there was no one else dining when we ordered so they weren't busy to need to rush and not give things time to heat up or make sure it was seasoned. Visually things looked good but the flavor which is what matters missed the mark. Anytime we needed anything we had to look for our server or wave someone down. There was no attentiveness. Even when asking for salt or a box for the majority of the pizza it never clicked for them to acquire about our experience. Eventually we had to hunt down the server to get the check so we could pay and leave. Aside from a being a relatively cute space I think they kind of missed a mark on everything else. Maybe it was an off night maybe I just expected too much which was simply the bare minimum of customer service and a half decent food. I'd probably lean towards one and a half star but considering how bad it was I'm gonna go with the lower side with the one. read more

For years I've been a huge fan of one of KR's other well known restaurants so I wanted to give Krog Bar a try and see if it was a hit as well. We arrived on a Saturday evening expecting to have to wait for a table but was pleasantly surprised when we walked in and were seated almost immediately. It's a very cozy intimate spot. The restaurant seats less than 45 diners so luck was definitely on our side, it gets packed fairly quickly. Our waitress promptly came over after we were comfortably seated and took our orders which consisted of a bowl of Italian olives $6, the romaine salad $10, a large 16" margherita pizza $19, and a 16" quatro formaggi $19. The wait wasn't long for the food and everything was absolutely delicious! The olives were fresh and drizzled with a bit of herb oil, citrus zest, garlic, and chili. Both pizzas were very tasty and the perfect size for 4 people to share. The salad was simple yet very flavorful and topped with anchovy dressing and pangrattato. The salad is shareable but I definitely could've eaten the entire plate by myself. We also ordered a couple of gelatos for dessert that were absolutely delectable! Looks like another hit for Kevin Rathbun, I'll definitely be back to try more of their New Haven style coal fired pizzas in the future! read more

The service is pleasant and responsive, the ambiance is warm and cozy, and the pizza is stellar. Kevin Rathbun has hit another home run! For the first course, we love Krog Bar's chopped salad and roasted artichokes. We've tried almost every coal-fired pizza on the menu, and our favorites are the Diavola (coppa with Calabrian chili), the Isabella (pepperoni), and the K.R.O.G. (fennel sausage and onion). What an amazing little spot! We came here expecting some good pie and it doesn't disappoint! I believe it's the only place in Atlanta that does coal fired pizza and it's amazing. After having nearly the worst experience ever at a restaurant in my life (a woman sitting next to my boyfriend and I was outrageously and explicitly rude and offensive) I stood up to leave while my boyfriend was in the bathroom. The owner and chef Kevin followed me out because he saw the altercation and was concerned because I was very upset. He took it upon himself to privately seat us at another one of his restaurant locations and saved our evening. He ensured that we had a magical night filled with the most amazing food. He even hand carried a pizza over from next door so we could enjoy his new restaurant (krog bar) we were so looking forward to eating at originally. Speaking from someone who works in customer service at a large retailer- Kevin hands down nailed our experience. You never know what people are going through and I will forever support a business who puts people first above all else. It is so clear Kevin and his staff care about not only the food, but the experience that comes with going out to eat with your loved ones.
