We used Krope and Son previously at our home in Lisle for annual tune-ups and again in our new home in Naperville, including maintenance on our boiler system. Betty is always kind and helpful on the phone. Tim (the owner) and his son provided a fair quote for a heat pump and installed it last summer. Unfortunately, after it was installed, it stopped working approximately six different times and follow-up visits were needed. Water dripped onto our ceiling from the drain pan, and I had to have it professionally repaired. They finally got the system working. Did I mention this happened in the middle of the summer with a newborn? I decided to let the cost of the ceiling repair go, as I felt bad for them working on the system in the heat. In the fall, we decided to use another local HVAC company moving forward. They pointed out that Krope and Son hadn't installed the correct filter size, and had instead jammed an incorrect size into the new system. Now, one year later, it's been discovered that the drain pan was actually broken and siliconed together. I called Tim to ask why they did it this way, and he completely lost his temper, spoke down to me, and used the time to badmouth his competitor. Boy, am I glad I never filled out the sheets he had asking for recommendations to neighbors and friends. Guess they've lost our business for good. read more

Our heating was not functioning, so we called for a service diagnosis and solution. The furnace was confidently misdiagnosed. Thus, we were also given an incorrect solution. We had to have a second technician come by and fix the issue. Had the first technician done a pressure test, he would have seen that there wasn't enough vacuum drawn to activate the flap and thus turn on the gas. Besides this, service was prompt. read more

Krope & Son are the BEST!! I found them on Yelp a few years ago because it's so hard to know who to trust & not rip you off, and they got great reviews. For a reason! This lovely, family business has been so great! Their yearly tuneup package is a good deal, with a discount on parts if you need any repairs throughout the year. I asked on my first appointment if I might need a new heating unit or if I could get away with my super old one for a while. He said it's in pretty good shape, so you can get away with keeping it until it wears out, instead of pushing me to buy a new one from them like some other companies would do. My AC went out yesterday, and they literally came out AND had it fixed within just over an hour! Betty in the office is so nice, and always does her best to get someone out ASAP. I first learned about Krope & Son one day as I drove past their store on Ogden Ave. It's a mid-century style building, which made me think that they've been around for a good while. After some checking, I learned they've been in business for over 50 years. Must be doing something right. That was 5 years ago, and I've been a steady customer since. Recently, they helped me with the replacement of a 20 yr old water heater. I got price quotes from a few other places - everyone was pretty much the same price-wise. So I went with Krope because they've been reliable and they carry Rheem water heaters. Start to finish took only a couple of hours, including an annual furnace maintenance service. I had my furnace looked at because it was extra noisy. They came out and told me all of the parts were internal and there was nothing i could do to fix it other than replace it. They said the furnace was operational and could last a few more years or months. My humidifier was also not working so i had them fix it since they were already there and they did. Fast forward 3 months and my humidifier is not working again. When i called to have a service person come out i was told i would have to pay an additional service fee to have them show up and they lied on my original invoice saying my furnace needed a part and that i declined. They are not ethical and they don't stand by their work. AVOID. read more

They installed a Rheem brand furnace in 2009 and even though the quote was 20% higher than others, we liked their reputation and close proximity to our home. So far we are pleased with the furnace, and the installation was timely and thorough. Today was the first repair done under the 10-year extended warranty over 5 years after installation. Under the terms of the warranty, both parts and labor should be covered 100% with no deductible. However, since the repairman did a 3 minute vacuuming of the inside (with my permission), he charged $118.00 for the "cleaning" portion of the service call. When I protested, he had some technical doublespeak to throw around and I just paid what he asked. As long as you don't mind the trickery to get some extra fees out of you, they do respond quickly to service calls. read more

Krope & Son has been our HVAC contractor since I was a kid (a long time!). In 2007 they replaced our old furnace and AC. Recently (wintertime) I woke up and realized our blower stopped functioning. That same day, without hesitation, Krope came out and determined the blower's power head (the expensive electronics) burnt out. They immediately installed a temporary head unit, and heat was restored. A week later they returned with a new replacement head and swapped out the temporary fix. Not only was their service and responsiveness outstanding, it cost us nothing! They stood by the 10 year parts and labor warranty and they are fighting the battle with the factory, not us. Krope & Sons installed a new furnace in our home in 2004. The Trane furnace was highly recommended at the time with 90% efficiency and 2 stage heating. Since having the Trane furnace installed we have had nothing but problems every year with it. It continuously shut off all the time. After a couple of years of calling Krope for service, and getting told to "reset it", we finally gave up. Other companies that have serviced the furnace over the years have said that it was installed improperly and that the furnace was not getting the needed air flow. The furnace only had a 5 year warranty and now (10 years later) needs over $2,000 in parts. Krope & Sons does not sell Trane anymore and were only interested in checking out the furnace, and giving us an estimate for a new furnace if we paid them for a service call. Of course, we had already paid another company that came out on Saturday, Krope did not answer the phone. The woman I spoke to on the phone was not helpful and more or less blamed us for the problems since we had not had them out since 2006 to service it. The reasons we did not, were mentioned above. I called them because I thought they would have an interest in looking at the furnace they installed to see if the $2,000 repair was diagosed properly, and to give us a quote for a new furnance. Apparently I was wrong, they would come out for free to give us a estimate for a new furnace, but not to check out the furnace that they had installed that was not working anymore. I said we would go elsewhere and she was fine with that. read more
