The shady vendor said the opposite to my face when he came to my home. They are clearly in bed together to scam consumers. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY I called Cool Operator when after coming home from out of town, My AC unit was running, but house was hot. Technician arrived and quickly diagnosed that I was low on refrigerant. Without performing a pressure/leak test, he added 2lbs of R22 and considered the job done. Now, 3 months later my house is again not cooling, and the frozen refrigerant line left waterstains on my drop ceiling in basement. Yesterday I called and spoke with a woman who said they would come out for a FEE to diagnose origin of the leak. This should have been done by their tech BEFORE adding R22 into a system with a known leak. The $350.00 worth of freon was a complete waste of my money, as I am in exact same position as I was before calling this Company. read more

We've been customers of Todd's since we moved into our house in 2013 and were faced with replacing 2 furnaces and a giant water heater. Todd advised us well on the replacement units and installed both very professionally. Since then, he's been advising us on the annual failures of our 1979 air conditioner, always managing to repair, rather than replace, up until this year when there really was no recovery. Again Todd advised on a cost and energy efficient unit (Bryant) with the work being done in the middle of a torrential downpour. This company left me hanging and Kathy did absolutely nothing but was her hands of me and the situation I was in. I have a home warranty and Cool Operator accepted my claim. Took three days to come out and determined my a/c needed a new part. The cost of the repair/part was $119.00 (they already collected $100 service fee from me). The home is warranty was waiting on a diagnosis from them to approve my claim. Kathy stated that she provided them with a diagnosis. I called they warranty to see what the hold up was. A supervisor reached out to Kathy to help her submit the diagnosis to the warranty company. Kathy hung up on the supervisor while she was trying to help. This was so unprofessional! Kathy left me hanging with no air with kids in the house. No empathy or business morals. She accepted my claim and left me without a resolution. I would avoid this company at all costs!!! read more

Our furnace broke on a Sunday (in November, average temp was between 20-30 degrees.) On Monday I made a claim with Home Warranty of America. They set us up with Cool Operator. It took 2 days until they could come out. They show up on Wednesday afternoon and their technician could not fix the furnace. He had to write up the problems and order a part. He told us he was heading back to the office to turn in the paperwork (part could not be ordered until this happened). This is where the problems started... I followed up with HWA to see how long it would be until Cool Operator would be back. HWA said They never received information from Cool Operator. I leave them a voicemail. Now its Thursday and I have been without heat for 4 days. I have a 2 year old. I contact Cool Operator to inquire about why they haven't turned in anything to HWA. They said the technician did not turn in the invoice with the information and he would not be in until Thursday afternoon. I asked if they could get the information so we could get the appropriate parts ordered. Throughout Thursday I spent my day playing phone tag with both HWA and Cool Operator waiting on a answer as to when my part would be in. Both companies were blaming the other, saying it was out of their hands. This continued into Friday. On Friday I spoke to the owner of Cool Operator at 2pm (someone finally answered the phone, I kept getting their voice mail). He assured me that he could not order the part because HWA had not approved the claim. I told him I would call them right now and check (at this point HWA told me Thursday night that the claim was approved already on their end). I told him that I would call right back. He said he would be leaving the office in 10 minutes. I asked if someone else would be there because their voicemail message says office hours are 9-4 Mon-Fri. The owner said "No". I asked when he would be back? (Knowing it was the weekend) he told me early Saturday. I asked if he could please contact me either way so I could know the status of my part being ordered. The owner told me he would keep checking and order the part as soon as he was able and let me know. Saturday comes... Nothing. I call Cool Operator. Nothing. No answer and no call back. At this point I am desperate, my house is 57 degrees and I still have a cold 2 year old. I contact HWA and they have also left Cool Operator 3 voicemails (according to Jacqueline with HWA). Sunday comes... Nothing. I call Cool Operator. Nothing. No answer and no call back. I contact HWA again and every time I get another call center person who can't help me. Monday comes... Nothing. I call Cool Operator begging and pleading for a call back with the news that I will have a functioning furnace because it is now 53 degrees in my house and it's been a week. HWA actually starts to have some human compassion and allows me to use a different company. Cool Operator doesn't even call me back until Tuesday morning. At this point the new company has come out and fixed my furnace (without needing to order said part). I know that responding to a claim from a warranty company isn't priority but all I wanted was for Cool Operator to be a little bit of a customer advocate. Instead of making your customer play middle man with a call center and themselves, they could have attempted to contact HWA if there was a hangup. To say I am disappointed in their service, availability, call back capacity and professionalism, is an understatement. read more

I am very disappointed in this company. I had a service call (through my home warranty) because the heat was way too hot upstairs and cold downstairs. He (Chris) replaced the blower fan motor and opened the dampers. He told me there was a 60 day warranty on his work. That was 10 days ago. I called Cool Operator back to schedule another appointment and the lady that answered the phone was rude and condescending. She told me that if he didn't find anything wrong with the system, that I would have to pay the service fee AGAIN! I asked her if the tech could call me and trouble shoot with me over the phone and she said no. She told me to call the home warranty back and get a second opinion. I called the Home Warranty to tell them about it and they said this company refused to come back to my house and will not honor the 60 guarantee. Good luck if you call them. read more

Alright, I'm going to try to keep my composure to a high and cursing to a low in this review but it will be very DIFFICULT, like this company's ability to tell the truth. I had my A/C and furnace serviced by a different HVAC company (who shall remain nameless but can be found by searching under my "5 Star" reviews if you want a REPUTABLE HVAC company) upon moving into my new home where I was informed the furnace had multiple cracks in the heat exchanger and it was UNSAFE to use. Since I wanted my home warranty to cover the new furnace, my naive self thought they actually would so I called them. The home warranty company sent me Cool Operator. I had no qualms about paying the $100 "technician fee" determined by my home warranty company but I DID have a problem with the technician who stepped foot in my house, questioned the validity of the other HVAC technician's opinion, and then proceeded to ask me if I had seen the pictures proving there were cracks. I had seen the pictures showing MULTIPLE cracks. This freaking heater is 30 years old dude and even a 30 year old person with replenishing cells starts getting hangovers after 24 years old. I doubt a furnace, at the end of its life is in perfect working condition. Anyway, so the guy turns my unsafe heater on. In the 20 minutes the heater was on, my head had suddenly felt like I spent all night listening to heavy metal music on full blast, my stomach felt like it was about to projectile vomit every single thing I had to eat that day, and the fear of passing out was growing by the minute. The technician sent to me by Cool Operator turned on my furnace which was leaking CARBON MONOXIDE. He went around to all my vents with his gauge measuring the levels of CO which were reading between 5 and 7, (mind you human tolerance to CO is 0) when on the final paperwork, this liar liar pants-on-fire wrote they were reading between 1-4 and he literally wrote "SAFE" next to it. Are you eff-ducking kidding me man? Whatever. If I get a new furnace out of it, I'll be happy. NOPE. This guy proceeds to tell me that the natural human body emits that same amount of carbon monoxide my furnace is currently giving off and that it's safe to breathe in. HAHA. Now I'm no STEM woman as I prefer to argue legal facts, but I'm pretty sure what he MEANT to say was that the human body naturally emits Carbon DIOXIDE as a result of breathing in oxygen and releasing the air of CO2 which aids in plants doing their photosynthesis jam to create more oxygen for us mammals to breathe. HUGE DIFFERENCE BRAINIAC. He kept telling me to look it so I did and NADA. Please feel free to send me links if you find an article that says the human body emits Carbon Monoxide in those levels. Moving on, so after this guy lies on the form that the furnace is safe with "1-4 range" and submits it to the home warranty company, the next day I get a frantic call from the administrative woman who works for Cool Operator saying that ANY reading of Carbon Monoxide means a furnace needs to be replaced. When I questioned her about the previous day's technician view of SAFE CO levels, she verbatim told me, "It's safe but it's not safe". Well, which is it? Death by carbon monoxide poisoning, or just extreme toxic gas illness? I'd like to know what level of "safe" I'm dealing with. She ended up sending out the same technician to take measurements for a new furnace who AGAIN kept woo-ing me with his amazing scientific knowledge about carbon monoxide that Google apparently hadn't caught up with yet and then left. Oh, I forgot to mention that I just love the aroma of cigarette smell lurking in my house hours after someone walks in. Who needs clean linen, vanilla bean, or lavender fields when the smell of tobacco and carcinogen can fragrance the house you just bought? Lovely little touch I will say. The home warranty didn't end up covering the furnace but these Be-witches were high off of their own carbon monoxide poisoning if they seriously thought I would allow them back into my house to replace my furnace at my own expense after their recommendation could have LITERALLY killed me. AND the technician who had self-proclaimed his experience of 20+ years was spewing out more horse manure than I've heard 3 year olds tell in hour-long stories about fake freaking unicorn horns that detach and turn into wands that create cookies by a mere proclamation of Presto! I'm not a huge 6 foot 6 inch dude that weighs 300 pounds where carbon monoxide poisoning would have killed me 8 months later. I'd die and my 3 dogs would be dead in a matter of days so thanks for literally being the WORST so I can write this review and warn all your potential customers NOT to go to you if they want to live. A few more words of advice: you may want to get your act together before someone does get hurt and sues you for negligence in a wrongful death lawsuit. Be prepared to pay up if you keep up your current lying ways. read more

I stumbled across Cool Operator by pure chance. I needed warranty service on my furnace and they were dispatched. I tried another company (because a friend recommended) for the next service and the company I used tried to tell me I need BOTH a new AC and furnace at a cost of $10k+. I went back to Cool Operator and they replaced a part and saved me from needing a new furnace for a few years. When they did replace the furnace, they didn't try to sell me on both the AC and furnace and the furnace price was VERY reasonable. I've been using Cool Operator for 6 years and am very happy. LESS THAN ONE STAR!!!!!!!!! It doesn't get much worse than this, folks... My AC wasn't working on Friday morning. I only noticed because when I went to change the temp on our Honeywell Smart Thermostat, the screen wouldn't light up. We have a home warranty through AHS, so I submitted a claim online AFTER I checked the breaker, my filter, and put a voltmeter to test for power at my thermostat's C wire... The breaker wasn't tripped, the filter was fine, and there was absolutely NO POWER to the C wire at my thermostat. I was given Cool Operator's information from our warranty company at 11:35am. At 1:19pm, I called Cool Operator to schedule an appointment time, instead of waiting longer for them to call me. I was met by a rude voice on the other end. It sounded as if I may have interrupted her day. In any event, I explained my issue, and what I had already done myself to check my system. She INSISTED that my thermostat was bad, even after I explained several times that there was NO POWER at the C wire. She still said that there would not be power to the thermostat if the thermostat was bad, and that the thermostat needed to be replaced... None of this made sense to me, and I asked a few times a few different ways, but she insisted my thermostat was bad. I had even told her what she was saying wasn't making any sense because (as a mechanic's state of mind) that would be like saying "my car won't start because my radio is bad". I had just installed the thermostat a few weeks prior, and it was working fine... Not to mention that the AC isn't powered by the thermostat... But she continued to insist that the thermostat wouldn't have power at the C wire if it is bad.... I figured what the heck, I'm not the "professional", she is..... (Hahaha) So off to Home Depot I went to get a new thermostat. I installed the new board and face, and STILL my thermostat didn't work. So we are now at 3:41pm on Friday, too close the end of business for comfort... So I called my trusty regular company out of Lombard and explained my situation... I barely even got through telling my story before the man on the other line told me to go downstairs and flip the breaker off, as there was something wrong with my unit downstairs... Which is what I tried telling the woman at Cool Operator... but she would NOT listen to me. My regular company came out and fixed the issue for more than it would have cost to have Cool Operator come out under our home warranty, HOWEVER, it saved me another call back to Cool Operator, the frustration of dealing with that woman again, or handing them any of my money... If AHS assigns your service to Cool Operator, RUN. Call AHS and tell them you need another company sent out. read more

They were sent out from my home warranty company. My AC was running but barely cooling the house. As the day went on it would continue to get warmer and warmer. They came out and collected their $100 deposit and really did nothing. He checked the temperature of the vents and said everything was working fine, even though at that point in the day the house was at 78 degrees and the AC had run non-stop. I ended up calling Orange Home Services, who did some work on our old house, they came out and fixed some wiring on the blower motor and it has been working perfect ever since. read more

Do NOT do business with this company! They came out to check my AC unit that was blowing hot air. Technician named Todd said that my unit was leaking freon, he said he would refill the unit and repair the line. 4 days later and the unit is blowing warm air again. I called their office and spoke with a really snarky woman who claims that because this was a Home Warranty of America claim they aren't "authorized" to check for line leaks on the first visit. Ummmm wait excuse me?! So you charged me $220 to refill my unit with freon and supposedly "repaired" (basically a bad duck tape job) my line but this pleasant lady is telling me nope, if you have a leak we need to come back out CHARGE you again to fix and refill?! Ohh and the best part, they can't come out for another 5 days!!! I have an infant at home and the forecast is 90+ for the next week... You came out and didn't fix it properly so now I expect immediate service! There's something not right here. The lady working the phones at Cool Operator needs a MAJOR attitude adjustment...she has no empathy for your situation- take it or leave it sort of attitude! When I called HWA and told them all of this... they said that this vendor did NOT follow protocol and never reported back to them about the freon?! They didn't even call in a diagnosis before performing the work which is the routine protocol. I didn't choose to do business with these people since I was assigned to them through HWA, but if you do have a choice, go somewhere else! read more

My husband got up for a midnight snack and realized our AC was not working. We had problems in the past and money has been tight so needless to say we were in no position to buy a new unit. They are good, honest and fair. I have been using Cool Operator for a couple years for annual maintenance but had to call for an emergency this year when my furnace died on the coldest day of the year, on a holiday weekend. They responded in a timely manner and charged a very reasonable price for a holiday weekend emergency. Other companies would have taken advantage of the situation. Although he did fix something that day, I continued to have problems and through his many years experience he was highly confident he had the furnace running good and he helped diagnose over the phone (didn't just come again and again and keep charging me for nothing) it was a gas pressure problem and not my furnace.
