Lyle from Lisle replaced my HVAC unit about 6 years ago and did quality work at a reasonable price. Rob with Lyle from Lisle came out to diagnose an intermittent buzzing sound that was coming from near my electrical panel when the HVAC was turning on or so I thought yesterday. Rob made himself available on a day when I was working from home which really helped with my schedule. After checking my unit and the panel (of course the sounds wouldn't happen when we cycled my HVAC), he thoroughly explained possibilities for the issue and recommended leaving the HVAC off to see if the noise returned. Hours later the noise come back and I was able to track it down to another neighbors unit causing the issue (condo building) and will be contacting the owner an HOA to get the situation fixed. Lyle from Lisle installed our furnace in July last year (2020) and we waited until the furnace was in use for a winter before writing a review of the installation. Our 19 year old two stage variable speed furnace had a small crack in the secondary heat exchanger, and we needed a replacement furnace. After much research, we decided to replace it with a single stage 96% AFUE furnace with a multi-speed ECM motor. Every installer we called, except Lyle, said we should replace our furnace with the same type 2 stage variable speed furnace because of the savings and the extra comfort we would get from such a replacement. Our 'monetary savings' experience with the two stage variable speed furnace has not been a positive one. In those 19 years, I had to replace the variable speed motor ($1200) and Motor Module ($1197). The total cost of those two repairs was equivalent to 2/3's the cost of what we paid for the furnace originally. Any savings we made in fuel efficiency disappeared with those repairs. Also, we did not notice any significant savings in our gas bill over the years from installing the 2 stage furnace. Lyle was in full agreement with the installation of the single stage furnace. He said: "More complex furnaces with "bells and whistles" will have problems down the road; their replacement parts are expensive, and they will cost you in labor to install (which I already knew from experience). With a BASIC furnace, your parts and labor will be less expensive down the line." Lyle's knowledge of HVAC systems, his not pushing us to upgrade and add bells and whistles to our new furnace, and his ability to answer all of our questions put him "head and shoulders" above everyone we contacted for an estimate. One thing that surprised us was his advising us to purchase a 100,000 BTU versus our current 120,000 BTU furnace. We live in the Chicago area and had a polar vortex winter in 2019 and my wife was worried a 100,000 BTU furnace would not give us sufficient heat in such a situation. His response was the two stage furnace was 120,000 x.95 x.67 = 76,380 btuh delivered in low heat; the new furnace 100,000 x .96 = 96,000 btuh delivered constant. He said it would deliver enough heat in polar vortex weather. We waited for winter to see how our new furnace would perform. We had a mild early 2020 winter, the furnace ran fine with no problems, and kept us cozy and warm. There was no significant increase in our heating bills as they were about the same as last winter. It could just be us, but my wife and I could tell no difference between the single stage and two stage furnaces. Still, before we submitted a review on Lyle, we waited for "polar vortex" type weather to see how our smaller 100,000 btu furnace would perform. In February, an arctic cold hit Chicago for 2 weeks (along with 18 inches of snowfall in some areas in two days' time), and although we did not experience 2019 "polar vortex" temperatures, the wind chill was as low as -23F outside. We were comfortable inside, the temperature in the house never dropped and was holding steady at 68 degrees, and all rooms were comfortable. We have a two story house, and our bedroom is on the second floor on the opposite side of the house where our furnace is located in the basement, and we felt cozy during this entire time (we also ran a room humidifier in our bedroom). Lyle's recommendation of a 100,000 btu furnace versus the 120,000 btu we had previously was spot on. One reads over and over on HVAC forums that it's NOT the 'furnace brand' that's most important in the selection of a furnace, but the most important part is the contractor you select in the installation of the furnace. We hit the "bulls eye" with Lyle. We highly recommend him for any of your HVAC needs! He is honest, reliable, knowledgeable, and reasonably priced. read more

Initial contact was to have the house air recharged. This was done quickly with a simple text message. The result was a recharged system at about 1/3 the cost of "what was " my regular system maintenance company! UNFORTUNATELY, the compressor failed. Called Lyle again. Received a quote to replace my 23 year old system. Price and new product were perfect. But the most important fact was an install 4 days later. I called Lyle after my furnace was on the fritz. He was very courteous and attempted to give me some tips over the phone to try before having to come out for a service call in case it was something I could easily do. I could not lol. He came in an attempted to fix but unfortunately a specific part ended up being fried. The furnace was older (17 yrs) and Lyle was nice enough to give me some different options. He also lent me five space heaters since it was still the winter to keep warm. My wife and I decided to just go and get a new furnace and Lyle gave me his quote and suggested I get some others to compare. He also let us keep the space heaters until we made our decision. I met Lyle at the Lisle Car Show. Our tastes in cars were different, but as we talked, I figured that this is the kind of guy I look to do business with. I called him up 18 months later and he remembered me. The temps had hit 95 degrees and everybody needed a/c service ASAP. He scheduled me in 3 days, but 1/2 hour later he called and said he had time available that same afternoon. He knew it would be a quick visit and he was flexible enough to move and adjust his schedules. We have long had an ongoing very slow refrigerant leak, usually needing a "top off" once a year. This had been a regular thing for several years, it was just cheaper to do that than pay for a leak test and repair as quoted by our former service company. Lyle did the recharge for about 1/2 price of the big name guys that advertise in those mailers that we all get. Lyle had given us his second yearly dose of refrigerant and a month later, we noticed that the leak, formerly a once-a-year event, has recurred much faster this time. He came right out and put another dose of refrigerant. He said it was time to rethink doing some replacing, and it might make better sense for us to think about the numbers again. He did that service call for free, including the 1.5# of refrigerant since we agreed to have him replace the outside condenser and the a/c inside coil... Plus a nifty Honeywell daily programmable thermostat giving us a much improved efficiency rating. He did his work for what amounted to 40% less than that other big name company (the one with the 800#, answering service, a fleet of trucks, mailers, and constant phone calls for service reminders). He installed this new a/c unit while taking with him an intern from an HVAC school. Just listening in to what Lyle was explaining to him spoke well of the kind of intelligence of service that he provides. He only travels to work in Lisle, so he might be one of the best reasons to live here. Highly recommended in every way. read more

Lyle was recommended by my agent who is also a property manager. I manage properties as well and Lyle is doing a few things right. First, he is experienced, knowledgeable and very respectful of you and your home. He is also very honest which is rare, he will let you know what products/services are not needed and would be a waste of money. I was looking up a fin comb and he advised its not needed unless the fins are totally bent over. He will also take the time to educate you about his trade. Did you know those thick expensive air filters are actually not good for your AC unit? Lyle was on time and fair when it came to pricing. He also prices in a new filter, and several other "freebies" which may vary depending on the call but is still a huge competitive advantage. I will be using Lyle for all my HVAC needs in my home as well as rentals. He does not service window units however, this is important to know but he will recommend a place that can replace those. I called last Tuesday and got a call back the same day indicating Lyle could be at my place the next day as he was coming back from vacation. I picked Thursday to meet (based on my work schedule) and Lyle was a little early (nice!). My a/c was out but he did a general inspection of my heater unit as well as a courtesy. It was apparent that he knew exactly what he was talking about. He spent about 15 minutes looking at my a/c and let me know he would be back in 20 mins with a part. I live in a 2 story home and the second story is much warmer than the first floor so we are always turning the thermostat, which is on the first floor, down to get the second floor cooler. I asked Lyle from Lisle to come out and quote dual-zoning the house, either by retrofitting the existing duct work or redoing it with dual furnace/ac units. He looked the system over and the layout of the house and recommended against dual-zoning because of the 2 story entry and the layout of the duct work. Instead he recommended an attic exhaust fan, refering me to a provider since he doesn't do that work, and a multiphase approach to upgrading my 10 yr old builder grade furnace/ac unit to something that would be more energy efficient, cool the home faster, and still work within my budget.
