there is a serious lack of thai restaurants in metro west. krua khun yah may share a strip mall with a supermarket and a dollar store, but the space is nice- spacious and clean with tasteful modern thai decor. the waitstaff is pleasant and accommodating too. apparently krua khun yah means grandma's kitchen. the food that came out of this kitchen was your average americanized thai food. if you're craving thai and have the time, driving into boston will get a much better meal. but if krua khun yah is your only option, as long as you don't have a thai grandmother of your own, this restaurant will probably do. read more

First Thai experience, if you can believe that! Obviously went with the Pad Thai (chicken) which was tasty but 100x better when our server brought my some peanut sauce to try it with. My boyfriend is a big Thai food fan and said it was great! Spring rolls - yum! Crab Rangoon was delicious and the cocktails were pretty good as well. Looking for something a bit more than McDonald's but less than Top of the Hub, we found this little gem on line, in the Shaws strip mall in Ashland. It was empty at lunch but we were early . Melanie sat us immediately and gave us menus. They need replacing because worn, wrinkled or dirty menus are a turn off. These just looked older, not bad. Little slow to bring us forks and even though she had me repeat I that I wanted 2 sodas for me and my brother, I only got one. But food did come quickly. But, the interior of the restaurant was very modern and makes me want to experience a meal in that setting. They are priced moderately. The Pineapple Fried Rice was amazing, the vegetable dumplings were pretty good, the Crab Rangoons were meh at best, and the Shrimp Himmaparn was satisfying but not awe inspiring. This is a favorite of ours for weekend take-out. There's something for everyone in the family and the prices are what you'd expect for Thai food in a strip mall. Takeout generally consists of the family favorites - Pad Thai, Sticky Rice, Brown Rice (THE best rice (sticky or brown) in Metrowest), Shumai, a Curry (take your pick), and then something extra spicy... whatever I may be in the mood for that evening. The Boyfriend and I had dinner here recently on a Friday night and while there were only about 6 tables of people in this big restaurant, which is usually a bad sign, every 5 minutes someone picked up a to go order which is a great sign. I had the Shrimp Red Curry which was really good and the fresh green beans and carrots made it even better. The Boyfriend had the Chicken Yellow Curry which was also very good, the pineapple and fresh zucchini really making this dish. He loved the Hot and Sour soup, and I wasn't thrilled with the Chicken Satay because it needed to be charred more and the Peanut Sauce wasn't hot which is what I'm used to. I also had a Thai Iced Coffee which was good and he had the Ginger Iced Tea which The Boyfriend loved. We will definitely be back! read more

I can only speak of the pick up service/food since that's all I've ever done. I usually order the Chicken Pad Thai and the Chicken House Fried Rice to go. The phone call when ordering, is usually short and sweet. The food has never taken more than 10-15 minutes between ordering and pick up time. The food itself? Always cooked perfectly, and tastes better every time I have it. Not too pricey. And the dish sizes are enough to split between two people/two servings. I would give it 5 stars, but I've never been inside to sit and eat. But they do have a Buffet on the weekends I hear? So I'll have to check that out and possibly update my review. read more

There were several times throughout the meal that we all had empty water glasses, and with only 2 other tables in the restaurant, there's no reason for them not to keep on top of something as simple as that. With that being said, the food is the star here. Located in a strip mall, there's not a lot of ambiance, so if the food isn't good, I can't see why anyone would come here, but it is, it really is. I ordered chicken pad thai and my friends got the crispy basil chicken and mango curry. A solid 3.5 stars. I was a little hesitant considering the recent yelp comments but I found Krua Khun Yah a tasty dining experience with great service. We went on a Friday night and it was not too busy. We were seated right away and our waitress was very attentive. I had the Pad Kee Mao which are pan-fried flat rice noodles with broccoli, tomatoes, carrot, peppers, onions and basil leaves. The portion was large and the noodles were fresh and delicious. We also had some tasty spring rolls. After dinner, we sat and chatted for an hour or so and the staff did not try push us out or rush the check. Recently went here for a pick up order. The entire chicken Pad Thai dish was dry, over-cooked/tasted microwaved, did not have enough peanuts, and had no peanut sauce to moisten it. Very rude service...... tried calling in and they were disrespectful and rude.... and sounded annoyed as I was trying to order. After I finally got my order in and went to go pick it up, I waited a hour to finally receive my food which they said would take 15 minutes. I ordered salmon, duck and pad thai, by delivery. On the plus side, it came 1/2 hour sooner than promised, so that was a pleasant surprise. But the food itself was rather bland and meager. I got a duck dinner, salmon, pad thai and an appetizer. The dinners do not come with rice, so you do need to order carbs if you want them. The pad thai was a mixed seafood pad thai, and the imitation crab meat was spoiled. The salmon was very good, but meager, as was the duck. These 4 items came to $68 plus tip. Which, given the portions, was very pricey. (I think it was $19 for each of the dinners (duck and salmon), pad thai with seafood was $14, and the appetizer was $6, I think) These dinners did not contain more than 600 calories each. Each entrée was accompanied by steamed carrots and broccoli. There was no seasoning. It was late on a Sunday, I did not want to have to start making dinner, and couldn't get thru to my usual pizza delivery place. So I decided to try Asian delivery instead. It was more than twice what I would have paid for a lot more food from the local pizza delivery place. Lesson learned. read more

I ordered home delivery through yelp at around 2.45pm. I saw that the order was received by the restaurant. Estimated wait time was 1 to 1.5 hrs which was 3.48 pm to 4.08 pm. Usually it's the later. So I waited for 1.5 hours. After that I called the support number and they contacted the restaurant. The restaurant said they did receive the order but can process it only after 5pm. My question is, if that's the case they would have rejected the order or should mention that they take order from this time onwards. I had to wait hungry for almost 1.5 hours to know that no food is coming and I have to do some other arrangements. I have been using yelp for ordering food from a long time. We've tried many of the appetizers, from Shrimp in Blanket, Thai Spring Rolls, Thai Dumplings, Crispy Tofu, and yummy Wonton soup. This restaurant is really good with allergies so if you tell them that you have an allergy they will take it into mind and tell the chef multiple times. Great place for Thai takeout during COVID. Their lunch menu in particular is extensive and very fairly priced. The food is well prepared and abundant. For Asians, the quality of the rice is where you can tell whether a restaurant is cutting corners or not. The rice served is of very good quality --- so important for enjoying a good meal!
