I ordered take out last night from Krupa Thai. I'm newly vegetarian & dairy free so I was hesitant to try out vegetarian food at a restaurant. The man on the phone was great & made sure my order had tofu & even questioned if egg was ok or not. When I went to pick my order up I was the only one in the restaurant. The gentleman who gave me the order was very very nice. The meal was delicious!! The pad Thai was great...although next tome I'll get extra peanut sauce. The massaman curry was a bit spicy but wonderful! I'm used to massaman curry with peanut, potatoes, pineapple. This curry had potatoes, nuts, tofu & grapes, a very delicious combination. I also ordered the vegetable spring rolls. Oh these were earthen first. Hot, crispy & delicious with a sweet chili sauce. Most surprising of this meal was the best tofu of my life. I have never had non-mushy tofu. This was seared on the edges & form but soft. I would eat tofu everyday if I could learn to make it like this! Came here for the first time today and got chicken pad thai and potstickers for take out. All the food was blah. It wasn't awful but there are many places in this area that are far better. The people who say this is the best pad thai they ever had make me sad. Y'all need to love yourselves. Kudos to the guy at the counter doing his best. I won't be back. Edit: The longer I'm eating it, the weirder it tastes. The peanuts taste super smoky, almost burnt. The sauce is super sweet and watery at the same time. And the noodles taste over-boiled. I tried Krua Thai for the first time today and I loved it! I got the lunch special Pad see ewe and received appetizer of the day for carryout, which the lunch special comes with and a bottle of water (awesome, since I love water more than pop). The appetizers were fresh and nicely fried, there was a spring roll and a few crab rangoon, with another fried appetizer I had not idea what it was but everything was light, crispy and delicious. The pad see ewe was not the best I ever had but was still decent. It was a good portion as well. I added a little Sriracha sauce to spice it up and give it more sauce. The lunch special was more expensive than i've usually had it for $10, but it does include a nice portion of the entree, appetizer of the day, and a bottle of water. It is a small and clean restaurant. I will definitely be going back to try more of their lunch specials! read more

Ate here due to convenience of location, mostly. There's a giant sign outside the window that says $7.50 lunch specials. For suburbs, $7.50 seems a little steep for a typical lunch portion (rectangular styrofoam box you know what I'm talking about) even if it does come with an appetizer and a bottled water/soup. The appetizers "of the day" for us (dunno if it actually changes) was an assortment of fried stuff - crab rangoon, potsticker, spring roll. They were all delicious and came with a flowery fish sauce-based dipping sauce. Unfortunately the entrees were meh. The cashew chicken and pad thai were both way too sweet. Overpoweringly sweet. The noodles on my pad thai were really dry and undercooked. There was a tomatoy flavor in the sauce that really grew on me that I've never tasted in any other pad thai before, but otherwise I didn't get the perfect interplay of sweet-sour-savory. The cashew chicken was so average until you douse with hot sauce. There is also no restroom - just ordering counter and a couple of tables you can stay to eat at. Definitely more of a take-out spot. Not so bad I wouldn't try some other stuff and give it another chance, but probably only if I happen to be starving before/after my haircut with Shana again (unless she moves before this happens, in which case the chances of me eating here again are probably pretty low). read more

My parents have lived down the street from Krua Thai my entire life and I never knew what we were missing. My mom loves Thai and usually drives into the city or goes to a place in Evanston if she's near by. I live in NYC now and after getting some disappointing Thai food there, my boyfriend and I were hoping to find some Thai food redemption while we were home visiting family. Krua did not disappoint- my boyfriend said it was the best fried rice he's ever had. We got it a second time with my entire family later in the week and everyone was so impressed. First time going to Krua Thai and got the chicken pad thai (mild). A small business that's carry out only with a small parking lot. I wonder if it's because I got the mild pad Thai that it was red and tasted more tomato-y than other pad Thai that I've had that's normally brown colored and savory. It didn't taste bad but wasn't what I expected. The lunch special was a good deal that includes 2 dumplings, crab Rangoon, egg roll, and a water bottle. FOOD POISONING ALERT!!!!!! Initially I was ready to give high ratings after leaving the restaurant. However, the hubby has been suffering all night with food poisoning from the shrimp pad thai. I am pretty confident that the shrimp is the culprit since that is the only item I did not share with him. Sadly we will definitely not be going back even though there were items on the menu that I enjoyed. I can't trust that they are handling their ingredients properly in the kitchen. read more

Wonderful Mom & Pop Thai joint. Very very slow and yet so completely delicious. The Crab Rangoon is different and great. Tom Tom Soup was eye good. I loved my Thai Fried Rice with tofu and chicken. Not that great. Overpriced Thai food. Asked for it spicy and when I picked it up it had dry uncooked chili powder on the top of my beef salad. It was horrible. Beef was boiled , grey in color. Ordered Basil Chicken and asked for that hot too and again mine had dry chili powder thrown on top, not cooked in. Have no idea what this owner of this Thai place was thinking but oh my god, this places is terrible. I work in Deerfield and live in the city so gave this place a try on my way home one day. I went back this weekend and picked up delivery for myself and my wife. I think it was the dreams I was having about the pad see ew I had for lunch here last week. Not only was the food terrific again but I had a chance to chat with the owner, Toi, for a bit. SUPER nice guy, very humble and kind. He used to work at another Thai place in Chicago for the past 20 years, and although he didn't want to get into details about his past endeavors, he told me that he quit there and took a couple years hiatus, contemplating retirement. However, he used the time to concentrate on putting spins on his quality Thai food dishes at home, and decided he couldn't get away from cooking. It was a compelling story, and hence the reason Krua Thai was born!! Thank heavens and thanks for the conversation, Toi!!! I HAD to have the Pad See Ew again. Awesome. My wife had the tofu pad thai, and it was tasty. Not the best pad thai I've ever had, but fresh & clean flavors. We had some spring rolls that we very good, but the highlight was the pineapple fried rice. YUM!!! Had pineapple and raisins in it, making it a sweeter fried rice than any I have ever had. LOVED it!!! CANNOT wait to try some of the other fried rice dishes there!! Thanks again to Toi, and please people, try this place and support local business!!! For the quaint setting, you'd probably pass this incredible gem up. The strip mall or signage is hardly telling of the remarkable Thai experience the food will send you on. I walked in, ordered Tom-ka and green curry both extra spicy. Within 8 minutes, I was leaving with two large portions, piping hot. The Tom-Ka was beyond perfect! A melding of spicy with creamy and sweet and tang. It was enough for two. The green curry- which the owner recommended as his favorite, brought the heat without sacrificing depth of flavor and texture. Chicken was tender. And rice was served on the side. I'm extremely happy with the quality, especially considering the reasonable cost. Give it a try! read more

I wouldn't recommend eating in - I found that experience wanting - but for carry out Thai food we were extremely satisfied. We ordered the Spicy Basil Chicken and Green Curry, specifying spicy on both; I waited for the order, reading an interesting National Geographic, and in 12-15 minutes all was ready; a ten minute ride didn't harm the food which came out piping hot and delicious, the basil chicken especially. A huge bowl of chicken pad thai, an appetizer sampler consisting of two potstickers, a crab rangoon, and an egg roll, plus a bottle of water... all for $7.50! The food was solid. The pad thai was spicy, as I ordered it, and filled with a nice amount of vegetables which added some freshness I like. I especially loved how many green onions were in the bowl. The chicken was whatever but the rest of the dish made up for it. The appetizers were all fried well. I really liked the amount of glass noodle in the egg roll, which had good all-around texture. The crab rangoon was a little heavy on the cream cheese but tasty. The potstickers had a really tasty filling but unfortunately the ratio wasn't ideal. They skimped a little on the filling. It was late, we were tired, we wanted Thai, and we wanted someplace close to our hotel. Major score. We called the restaurant from the car, asked for recommendations, the woman who answered (an owner?) was patient and provided excellent recommendations, and everything was outstanding. Very typical, small, nothing fancy, family-owned restaurant. Maybe 10 tables with the kitchen in the back. I waited for all of two or three minutes before the order was ready -- a few minutes before they told us it would be ready -- paid, and brought it back to our hotel room. Soup was so hot in temperature that we had to let it cool off before we could eat it. That was awesome as so often takeout soup is lukewarm. We also ordered a shrimp with vegetables dish and pad thai. Both were piping hot, delightful taste, medium spice, and just what the doctor ordered. The shrimp, for example, were cooked to perfection. Again, not easy to do with takeout food. Not that I again want to be tired and looking for food close to my hotel but if that happens in the Northbrook area, we'll definitely know where we're going. read more

The place is small and although they have a few tables, it is obvious that takeout is this business's pad and noodle, or fortune cookie, if you will. ;) Anyway, while waiting, I caught a glimpse of grandma in the kitchen, which was a sign of hints to come. My husband and I ordered food for a family of 4, for about $40. We got pad Thai, basil chicken entree, spring rolls, and a large Tom kha soup. Dee. Lish! We devoured everything. The medium spice was just the right amount of heat and the fresh basil in the dish was flavorful and refreshing. We had plenty of leftovers that we pan fried the jasmine rice and entree the next day. The male Owner is not overly nice and has never shown over the top customer service. he is not attentive. Sees me standing there and continues to talk with other customers. Ok. I literally made a Yelp account just so I could review this restaurant. My family lives in Northbrook, so we order from Krua Thai very often, usually once a week. We've actually eaten at a lot of Thai places, and Krua Thai is one of the best, in my opinion. The thing that strikes me the most is that it's just a small business owned by a husband and his wife. However, the food is still great. Although the food comes in styrofoam containers, the food is definitely not low-quality. The food is prepared with a variety of flavors and there are many great dishes on the menu. In addition, what amazes me the most, is that he and his wife work in the restaurant seven days a week, tenish hours a day. In terms of the dishes, I would recommend the salads. The beef and squid salads are my favorite. They both have healthy portions of meat and vegetables. However, the star of these dishes are the sauce, and the attention to detail put into its flavoring. Also, other dishes I enjoy include the green curry, pad see ewe, and fried rice. Each has its own distinct flavor. Even though this restaurant is definitely more catered to take-out, I would definitely recommend trying their food if you can. So take it from someone who has eaten at Krua Thai a lot and has had a chance to try the various dishes it has to offer. If you are a fan of Thai and maybe even if your not, I guarantee that Krua Thai will not disappoint. read more

We order Thai food all the time, since everyone in the family loves it. Decided to give this place a try and will likely order again, but perhaps try different dishes. We got tofu pad see ewe - tofu was perfect, broccoli didn't have the char we are used too (should it have char? Who knows, but I love that). Also got chicken pad woon sen - chicken was great! But weirdly, the dish had mushrooms and peppers. Not bad (I love some extra veggies), but unexpected. Tofu mussaman curry - a bit sweeter and peanuttier that I'm used to, and also unexpected veggies. Tofu and potatoes were cooked wonderfully though. Papaya salad looked and tasted like it was mixed with the dressing/sauce a few hours back, if not yesterday. Usually it's super fresh and crunchy, and this just wasn't. I didn't order potstickers, but when I got home, I found them in the bag!!! Thank you for free potsticker. No clue on the meat type... chicken? Pork? Well, they were meat and pretty tasty. When picking up the order, we ran into their long time customer who has always been ordering their crab Rangoon and chicken pad prik. Says these are the best things ever!! We ordered the basil chicken and beef salad(num tuk). The basil chicken did have Americanized veggies in it (I.e, bamboo shoots), however, Both flavors were spot on and tasted authentic. They also don't mess around with their "spicy". When you order something spicy, it's a true Thai spicy. Come if you are looking for good authentic Thai flavored food.
