Pad See-Ewe Noodle with chicken $11.95

Cute little Thai place in the Glen! The older lady was so friendly when she handed out candy at this year's Halloween community event, and we finally made it back here to try the food. I loved that they have an extensive bubble tea menu, sushi, and traditional Thai dishes. I may come back for the lunch specials! The ahi tuna poke appetizer has a nice kick to it (jalapeños). I ran out of wonton crisps but ate the ahi tuna as is the next day. The TY sushi roll with shrimp tempura and crispy basil was very flavorful. My husband enjoyed the pad see ewe. Though he got it as a hot spice level, he didn't taste much heat. We keep saying his taste buds are dead. Facts. My girls enjoyed the California roll and huge portion of tempura udon. The food came out as it was ready, so each member of the family didn't have food at the same time, but that was fine. Will be back! I want to try the rocky road bubble tea and other sushi rolls!

An alright choice for Thai food if you're in the area. The decor is fairly simple with wooden chairs and benches that weren't uncomfortable, but I wouldn't sit down there for long periods of time. Service was sufficient, a single server was managing the entire dining room during out visit and requests were managed at a reasonable speed. Prices were alright for the portion size and ingredient quality. The food items we tried were alright in terms of texture and flavor, with a reasonable presentation. I found the pad thai to be a bit light in flavor. Other than the seared egg, there wasn't much to add a strong savory flavor to it while it was lightly coated in sauce so it wasn't very sweet either. I still enjoyed eating it, but it doesn't stand out amongst other versions of pad thai that I've had. The massamun curry with chicken was a bit more flavorful, with a nice balance between the onion, sweet potato, and coconut milk. The meat provided was plentiful, though I would've liked some additional marination or flavoring on it. The portion was quite large and easily fed 2 people. Overall, a reasonable choice for Thai food if you're in the area. The cooking didn't stand out but it did a reasonable job of representing flavors.

This was a last minute idea. We were at The Glen and were hungry and decided to stop here for lunch. You will be fooled by the unimpressive decor. This restaurant absolutely rocked the two dishes we tried. We had the shrimp pad Thai and massamun curry with sweet potatoes. The shrimp pad Thai was very sweet and had the taste I was looking for. The massamun curry was a delicious surprise. It had a sweet flavor with the sweet potatoes adding another layer to the dish. This is a great choice for fantastic Asian food!

We ordered Green Curry and Thai Fried Rice from here. Total was $23.95. Green curry was spicy. Thai Fried Rice was flavorful. Portions were generous. Customer service provided by staff was good! Check the restaurant out for good authentic Thai food!

I came here on a Saturday night, we were seated right away. The staff was so friendly and checked in on us often. The service was quick! I had pad see ewe with chicken. It was really good! The portion size was perfect! My friend had some sort of sushi and really enjoyed it. Overall, I would come back!

Pad see ew with chicken - very good!

5 stars for pad see ew with chicken. It was served piping hot and had the right amount of sweetness from the sauce and egg. The chicken was cooked perfectly. Really tasty and would definitely be back for it again! My friend had a few different sushi rolls and all of them appeared 'clunky' and thick. We shared the crab Rangoon which were also not great. The inner texture was more reminiscent of cottage cheese instead of smooth which is what I am used to. Service was a bit slow but seemed there was one 1 waitress (owner?), one of her family members as the 'sushi chef' and maybe 1 cook in the back.

Good food. Nice value. Service was attentive. Had a homely, local vibe. Atmosphere of the space was strange though - set up of restaurant felt half cute and half thrown together.

Left to right : spicy scallop, dragon, salmon avocado

My friend and I were in the neighborhood and we ordered a few rolls for outside dining: - 2 spicy scallop rolls - 1 dragon roll - 1 salmon avocado They were really good! Each piece was filled very generously and the ingredients tasted fresh. The rolls basically melted in my mouth. Usually $8 for each roll is pricey for me, but it was worth it here because of the flavorful and fresh ingredients! I tried a piece of the dragon roll, which had the perfect amount of eel sauce and crunch from the pieces of shrimp tempura. Also, customer service was excellent! The owners were very kind! I would definitely recommend this restaurant :)

We popped in here around 4PM on a Tuesday. Loved the atmosphere, cozy and private, with comfortable seating. I had their Thai iced tea, and my girl had the butterfly pea lemonade, both were well made. Just the right emphasis of sweet and refreshing. The appetizers were spot on. We had the gyoza and the crab rangoon. The gyoza was juicy and steamed to perfection, and the crab rangoon was 5/5. We order crab rangoon at a lot of restaurants, and this was the best I'd had in awhile. We were in a sushi mood. So we tried the Spider and the Sunrise rolls. And wow. Both were eloquently crafted. The Spider was refreshing, and the Sunrise was rich and filling. The texture and taste on both were superb. The sauce that they drizzle on the Sunrise roll was savory and addictive. Both rolls had just the right combinations of flavor. We'll come back. 5/5

Ordering was a breeze and the guys were always open to a conversation or giving suggestions. The restaurant was clean and the meal was always tasty. Just a note but the further away you move from any major city the fewer and harder it is to find great Asian food. The suburb is lucky to have them. The pandemic brought new staffing. Some were pleasant with customers though one lady, a supervisor had the wrong ideas of what customer service and proper etiquette is. Just the basics of my final visit. I took my family for lunch. We ordered lunch specials and a couple extra must-try plates. Two specials hit the table and the third was left waiting for her meal. Unbeknownst to us in the moment, her food was handed to a single patron there for his lunch. The place was filling up with a lunch rush but not so many that had complicated orders. Many were ordering similar lunch specials. Kung pao lunch special was popular. When her order finally arrived the supervisor realized she had given the wrong plate to the customer sitting some tables behind us. Mind you ten minutes had already passed. She quickly went over to him and asked what he had ordered. She then took the plate he was eating from and handed him the fresh plate. He was still holding a half eaten egg roll in his hand. Then she brought the quarter eaten plate and placed it in front of my mother. Before she could leave I stopped her and asked her what she was doing. She simply stated that was her lunch order. I told her she handed my mother someone else's food that they were eating and I watched the whole thing. Why didn't you take that to the back and make a completely new plate of food?! I paid the bill and got the F**k out. That's gross. Also, you gave the other patron new food but cannot do the same for our table?? This place is dead to me. If she could do that, it beckons the question of what else is happening behind the scenes.

Even if we don't consider its rarity, Da Local Boy is a winner in every category. The prices are very fair for the enormous portion sizes, the decor is fun and appropriate, the service is friendly, and food is phenomenal both in flavors and textures. The only possible criticisms are that the space is a bit small for how popular this spot gets, and the parking in the area can be a bit limited around popular meal times. The food here shines, making it worth a special trip -- both again for the rarity but also the quality. For me, the poke nachos are a must order item, just the perfect mix of large chunks of tuna with super crispy wontons, fresh avocado, and a good helping of sauce. Amongst friends, we've agreed that this is a must order item. The huli huli chicken is also unreal in flavor and texture. Besides being marinated and sauced well, the chicken is melt in your mouth tender while simultaneously having a delicious crisp skin. Think brick chicken, but with more flavor and a much better price. The rice and macaroni salad that accompany this are also well done -- and feel more like a core part of the meal rather than an afterthought. The grilled pork is pretty good as well, though I kind of wish it wasn't sliced as thin, as certain pieces felt a bit dry. The spam musubi with a light touch of furikake also provided a flavorful, fun dish to accompany the other delicious items I tried. Overall, delicious and consistently surprises me with the quality of the execution and bold flavor combinations. This is on my top places to visit in the area and has never disappointed.

My favorite of the night was the rose tteokbokki. The tteokbokki was perfectly chewy and I enjoyed the flavor of the sauce. The popcorn chicken was also good and paired well with the sauce it came with. The bossam was on the dry side and the seafood pancake was pretty standard. The fries were good but wouldn't pay $10 for a basket of fries if we came back next time. The corn cheese was also good but the plate was small. There was a call button at each table which was convenient. Food came out individually as it was ready instead of all at once which was to be expected for our party size.

My wife told me there was a dumpling place in Northbrook and took me there for a late lunch the other day. I know that she's not a fan of dumplings, but "took one for the team" and brought me there. We just ordered basic beverages, her a water and I a Coke Zero. She then ordered Pad Thai and I ordered chicken soup dumplings and chicken sanji. The pad thai came out first and it was a huge portion. She barely put a dent into it and it became two additional meals later. She said it was different than other places she's had it and that it was good, but different. I noticed the chicken pieces were huge chunks and the sauce had a little kick to it and wasn't thick, but it was tasty. I first got the chicken soup dumplings. Man, they were good. They're larger than the ones I've had at Din Tai Fung and The Dough Zone, but they sure are delicious. And since I prefer not to drive into the city and spend over an hour on the road to get downtown, to go find some other dumpling/dim sum place; I'm happy there's a great place in the suburbs near me. They rival the other two mentioned previously. Their sauces are great, the dumplings are great. The sanji was delicious. Heck, that's in their darn name. All of it was good. And this is my go to place in the suburbs now. The place is a cute. As you enter the vestibule, there's a dumpling with a body welcoming you in. The place is just all black and red and you wait to be seated. There is a container with chopsticks on each table, but the napkin is wrapped around a fork (most places you have to ask for a fork, so this is a nice change). I could use a knife for the sanji as they are quite big, but it's not a problem eating them without. Our server was very nice and helpful. There's really no place in the north to northwest suburbs that serves this type of food and you'd be foolish to skip it. I'll see you there soon. I'll be the one making the yummy sounds.
