We've spent a while looking for good Thai food here. Turns out this little place was under our nose the whole time. Their food is fantastic and I really loved the pad Thai and yellow curry. Sadly, I can't recommend Krua Thai. I went in and had a to go order for a Pad See Ew and chicken satay. I was excited to try it as there were many positive reviews here for the pad dish and it is always a staple for me when I am in Thailand. The broad noodles and tamarind based sauce normally has such a unique sweet but not too sweet flavor, I just love it. The dish I was given was the beef pad with a #1 spice. I didn't want to go too far on spice as this was a first trip and I wanted to test the waters before upping my level too far. Spice was not the issue. As you can see in the photo, I basically received a bland clump of slightly overcooked broad noodles with zero sauce. Pad See Ew is almost always some color of a brown sauce. This looked like cooked noodles with egg and no sauce at all. I'm not sure what happened and if this is the way it is made every day, but it for sure isn't traditional Thai in design. Maybe they have Westernized it for some reason or I just received a poor batch. Either way, disappointed. The chicken satay was very good if not just a bit undercooked but by no means raw. I would have loved just a bit more char on the chicken. The staff was nice, not too pricey, but overall, I can't recommend my experience, but it for sure looks as though I am in the minority overall. Considering there's basically NOTHING in Abilene, I am very impressed with this Thai place. Their spice is true spice, so just watch out for that spice level. I got the pad khing sod with combination meat. It. Was. The best. Extremely flavorful, there was good meat in it--like fresh shrimp. I'm adventurous so I got a 3/4 and it was a perfect amount of spice that didn't take away flavor. And huge portion! The second time I went wasn't as good. I got the Thai basil chicken and it was filled with so much ginger that almost made it inedible. I had to take out so much ginger to make it semi work. Got a 3/4 spice and was the same consistent spice level. I was a little sad because the owner gave the two different couples ahead of me some of her mango drink to try, but just skipped me. Sorta rude... Solid take out spot, but I think you gotta just pick one-two items and stick with it. read more

They WILL NOT allow you to call ahead an order to dine in.. extremely inconvenient for military folks, which is half this town... or anyone with a short lunch break. We dont get much time for lunch and they WILL NOT make any exceptions.. EVEN IF THE RESTAURANT IS EMPTY!! They will ASK YOU TO LEAVE if you try even if you were unaware!! The PLACE WAS EMPTY! ! I have NEVER been asked to leave any establishment IN MY LIFE! I was floored! I even saw the staff ask a couple to move in the middle of their lunch and make them eat at a smaller table... that is flat out RUDE! Ive eaten here MANY times and recommended it to all my friends because of the food! You can bet I wont anymore! When I inquired about this I was basically told it was all about a damn dollar... they don't want to tie up tables so they can make more money. Well let me tell you that's how you lose customers!! Then where's the dollar?? And, all were asking you to do is get our food going! It can't be all about size... look at abi haus downtown! They are SMALLER and they do VERY well allowing both call aheads and reservations because they LISTEN to the voice of the customer! They get that no one wants to wait hours for food or a table. They know they are small and offering these conveniences ATTRACTS MORE BUSINESS! Allowing this would only HELP people get in and out faster thus helping the restaurant too! I dont like being blatantly treated as nothing more than a means to an end by a business owner and neither should you! Call me crazy, but I think a good business is built on a lot more than that! If people call but don't show then give their table away, simple! Although, I doubt it happens that often. But, the point is why shouldnt someone be able to call and get their food started? I love finding small out of the way places with good food. Krua Thai did not disappoint! We were passing through and wanted Thai food. It was easy to jump off the interstate and get to their location. I called in the order and they estimated 25-30 minutes. It was ready right on time. I got there early and had a nice chat with the staff. We ordered medium spicy DUI Noodles (called Drunken Noodles in California) and spring rolls. The food was hot, tasty, and spiced just right. It was a welcomed hot meal on a grueling cross-country road trip. I would definitely stop their again when passing through Abilene! read more

The crispiness was absolutely perfect, and the spice was absolutely tantalizing to my tastebuds, to my astonishment. First of all, the food is fantastic. You won't be disappointed in the quality or quantity (plenty for lunch the next day). My only slight hesitation is that they can be a little off-putting in customer service. Not really rude per se, just odd with their many rules that they constantly shove in your face. The portions are generous and it leads to a great lunch the next day. Our waitress Esther was perky, attentive and efficient. A sign of a good restaurant is the use of fresh ingredients. However towards the end of the night they maybe our of somethings. I suggest you show up early in order to enjoy the whole menu. That being said my husband's Masaman tofu was rich, savory and the heat level was spot on, (Thai hot). I had the shrimp pad thai which was not as savory as I would like. I asked Esther if she can bring me their clear sauce(vinegar & sugar) I added it and it was just right. Our preferred dessert, mango sticky rice was not in season. So we got the banana sticky rice.. The flavor was good but the rice came out as a hard chewy lump. (It may have been microwaved.
