The first time I stayed in Hagerstown, back in October of 2010, I was house-sitting for someone who basically had Krumpe's in their back yard. My boyfriends father told us not to go try their donuts, because of how addicting they are and he wasnt kidding. These donuts are soooooooooooooooooooooo good. They melt in your mouth! I used to eat them all the time when I had backyard access to it pretty much. They are cheap too!! And the employees are very friendly. I wish I could make it out more that way to get them more often, but I guess it's better that I don't, or i'd weigh about 500 lbs, LOL. I recently got married in Hagerstown, and since my bride grew up going to Krumpes we thought it would be a nice treat to have some donuts delivered at the end of our wedding reception. I emailed the business and the owner replied that they don't usually do deliveries at that time but they would be willing to make an exception for us. Finally got a chance to visit Krumpe's. These babies are some darn tasty donuts that blow away anything that Dunkin or Krispy Kreme could ever produce. I got a variety of yeast raised and cake donuts and there wasn't a bad one in the bunch. My biggest peeve is the odd hours of 7 pm-2 am. Not the place to go if you are looking for good donut for breakfast (unless you work a night shift and/or you are a REAL EARLY riser). The business model Krumpe's goes for appears to be a wholesale operation who happens to do a little retail on the side instead of being a retail establishment. Hence the odd hours and the kind of unusual location. The inconvenient hours are the only reason I can't give it 5 stars, otherwise if you find yourself in Hagerstown overnight, make a run to Krumpe's and get one the best donuts in the area. read more

I am in Hagerstown for 1 month for a rotation and of course I checked Yelp for a nearby donut place... This is not one of those fancy places in NYC or DC with specialty flavors galore (don't get me wrong I love those too) but rather a mom and pop joint that is itty bitty but packed with old fashioned favorites that are super cheap! It is a little hard to find but just look for Donut Alley. It also has a bit odd hours (open at night only) but that made the adventure with my roommates more fun. We opted for an assorted dozen including the Monday Mystery flavor and the specialty donut of the day which was S'mores. They were a bit too sweet for me. I preferred the glazed and the custard filled. The cinnamon twist was also a nice. There is something for everyone whether you prefer risen donuts or cake ones. Everything was fresh and looked like it was made in grandma's kitchen. The kids working behind the counter seemed a bit slow and confused at times but I guess you can't expect much more from teenage workers? Plus a dozen donuts only set us back 6 dollars. We absolutely loved Krumpe's do-nuts! The place has limited hours 7pm-2am but if you have the opportunity to try them -- this is a must do! The place is a little tricky to find. It is literally located in do-nut alley. We had not even tried the donuts yet but we knew we were going to love them. Who wouldn't love do-nut alley! I used to be fortunate enough as a child to experience the absolute best donut on the planet. We moved to Indiana from Hagerstown and I lost the convenience of driving down the alley late at night and buying those melt in the mouth treats. My son and I drove to DC a few years ago and did that late night road trip down the same alley in Hagerstown. He talks about that trip to this day. Dunkin and Krispy Kreme dont have anything on this place. You can bring your children and let them watch as they make them fresh daily in front of your face. They are open 7pm-2am Sunday through Friday. Sorry they aren't open saturdays. Thats the only complaint that i have. Krumpe's is definitely better than the usual chain. Like most really good donut shops, it's not part of a major shopping destination, but it's not that difficult to find. You take the Rte 632 exit from I-70 (last one before I-81 going West) drive toward town and you'll see their sign just as you reach an older residential area. The store is a couple short blocks to your right. Donut lovers usually have their biases. I prefer cake to glazed, cream filled to jelly filled and iced to plain. The emphasis here is on filled and cake-style, although I did see plenty of glazed. The donuts aren't excessively sweet like Krispy Kreme nor bland like Dunkin. The icing tends to flake off and the eclair was a little too doughy for me. The cream fillings are flavorful and not overly sweet. The price is definitely right (much cheaper than Krispy Kreme). I thought the donuts were better the next morning. Fresh out of the fryer, they tended to have a little bit of a cooked taste. Next morning, that was gone and the taste of the filling and different flavors was better integrated into the donut. read more

Ok any place on or in donut alley can't be all bad. They sell milk here now so you don't have to run a round h town looking for it. All there donuts are made on site by very fit mostly body builder types. So kidding..anyway the glazed are the best but the solid glazed with raisins are soooo good there the best actually really,, no no wait it's the chocolate coated kreme filled actually it's them for sure. Well they open late and if your there after 11 there are people in the alley very happy to be there that had probly visited some type of establishment that possibly over served them. All in all go there late get a mixed dozen just for yourself and don't share 1 morsel with anyone else. Heat in microwave next day for 13 seconds. I ADORE this place so much. I was introduced years ago by my best friend who at the time lived in Frederick. They have a fantastic selection to choose from; doughnuts are always hot and fresh and the pricing is ridiculously reasonable. These are by far the best doughnuts I've ever eaten and I always eat at least 2 in the car before the drive home. I cannot get over how fresh they stay. Two days later they still taste as good as the night they're purchased. I like how the special menu changes monthly (it gives me something new to forward to and an excuse to trek up here often). There is always a line, whether you show up right when they open or it's late that night. That's just a testament to their awesomeness/cult following. Only issue I have is that similar to Chick Fil A I ALWAYS want to go on a Saturday and they aren't open then (a minor complaint really). read more

Amazing and inexpensive donuts that are light, airy, tasty, and amazing at like $7/dozen and approximately $0.60-$.80 per donut. I had these last night after playing a roller derby scrimmage against MDRD. These are on par or better than many of the donut shops I've visited in and around the country. And believe me, I'm a fatty who knows her donuts. I've been to various donuts shops throughout the country including Doughnut plant, Peter pan donuts, and Alpha donuts in NYC, donut alliance and B donuts in Baltimore, Laurel Tavern Donuts in Laurel, MD voodoo donuts in portland, Lamars Donuts, the donut whole, and Hurts Donuts in Wichita, KS and all the chains from Chicago Donuts to gross Dunkin to Krispy Kreme. These are the best for not only taste but price. Finding this small shop in an alley adds to the charm and seeing Mr. Krumpe himself make the donuts and take care of customers added an extra feeling of small town cohesiveness. The donut shop is like the city of Atlantis for chubsters, elusive, but well worth the search to find it. If you're in Hagerstown from 7pm to 2AM, you must stop her to try one.
