Nothing like the stress of having to smog a pre-2000 vehicle every two years but KS Smog will be my go-to place from now on. Mike was responsive and helpful. I would've passed at any place but he provided good service and charged $57 (two years ago I paid $89 in Oakland). It's a little drive from my house which is perfect because you want to get your CAT nice and hot so it's operating efficiently. Ideally, 30 min drive on the fwy at 60mph. I came here this past Saturday before the rain started to get my car a test only so, that I could get my car registered with the dmv. Always pay attention to your dmv registration renewal notice because it's easy to over look the test only requirement especially if you drive a fuel efficient vehicle. The man who owns this business is very friendly and professional. There wasn't a line and I was in and out in about 20 minutes. WOW. Am I impressed? Absolutely. Did I spend the 15 minutes there while I was waiting telling everybody to come here to get their smog check? YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT. I had a to get a smog check and honestly was dreading it. The last time I went for a smog check at a local place (you know trying to support small businesses), the owner asked if I had a boyfriend and decided to make advances towards me in the most unprofessional way. Not to mention that that smog check with "a discount" had cost me over $70. Luckily, I passed and never had to go back. So two years roll by and here I am again. Independent me said you can find a different place and take care of this, instead of asking a male to do it for you. So headed to trusty Yelp and the first place that pops up with PHENOMENAL reviews is KS Smog! I was hesitant because of the part of town its in with the increase in crimes, but I figured it has good reviews, I can go in the middle of the day, and it has such a great deal of 26.75 + taxes and fees. I also spent some time reading the reviews, taking note as to who wrote them and their experience. I noticed that the owner Michael personally responded and I was convinced that I could show up and they'll take care of me. No appointment needed or a pre phone call to ensure they would take walk ins. This goes back to my WOW and just the extent of their customer service and my experience. I was greeted right away and asked to park my car where it would be serviced. Michael let me know that I had a customer in front of me so it would be about 15 minutes and then they would do my smog check. I handed over the paperwork and he opened up an umbrella in the shade for me to sit while I waited! He came over and filled out some paper work and receipts for the service, hinted and asked if I had a coupon and I mentioned Yelp, which in his response was GREAT! and I got that deal mentioned on Yelp all over in the reviews and on their website. It's not a gimmick and the real deal. My total was $35 and they took card. Also mentioned, they provide hand sanitizer before handing you a pen to fill out paperwork. Masks were worn and everything was done professionally and honestly. It took them about 15 minutes to take care of me and I was already on my way home. Hard to miss this location, it's right next/shared with the gas station. I highly recommend coming here for your next smog check! Will be back in 2 years. read more

This guy is absolutely great! I only go here! This guy is the cheapest around! He's authorized & able to do both the regular smog and the STAR smog test (in which he transmits your passed test to the DMV for you [you just get your registration in the mail after paying]; it can't be assumed at every testing place, more on this further). He's really quick and straight to it; under 25 minutes. It's easy to pay as he takes credit cards. He's very friendly and personable! Me and my wife (her especially) are tickled that, when he's finishes, exclaims "Congratulations! You passed!" Like, we are training and working for it.... :-P So there's not much parking, as it is a shared space with a gas station. There's about 3 or 4 cars you can fit near where the test is done. Also, it's right next to a school, so around 3pm the area around it gets really crowded (with all the parents picking the kids up) and many wait at the gas station/smog test area for the kids. There is no sign up sheet -- so when you get there, you have to present yourself to him and I guess he just keeps it all up in his head. There are a few outdoor seats for when you're having your car worked on, but there's barely any shade (depending on the time, of course). Last time I went, he had a outdoor restaurant umbrella though. I really think so very highly of this guy because I have had so many bad experiences with other places where one (whose price was comparable) no one was there -- even though it was their normal business hours and there was no sign that they were closed or no note on the door -- another "good one" that I was referred to was $80 (on my '05 mustang?! imagine a pre-'95 car), and another did a regular smog for me once but didn't/couldn't register the successful test to the DMV (normally the tester does it and I simply get registration couple weeks later, but got pulled over for registration sticker and I told him that it's probably still in the mail, cop checked and said it hadn't passed registration yet; called DMV and they told me that if tester doesn't upload it, it's "my responsibility" to inform them?....!) and when I went back he couldn't even do it because it was a STAR smog test! I kind of don't want to give this positive 5 star review because I don't want to make this place too popular as I don't want him to raise his price, as well as one of the good things about this place (as of right now) is that there is also not many people getting tested, so that means there's a good chance (again, only as of right now) it wouldn't take too long. Anytime that DMV letter comes with the requirement, I don't consider any place else and go to here to this guy! read more
