Burger King has been inundating the "air"waves with their newly bettered Whopper sandwich version…read more So I made it a point to visit this Burger King in Lihue during our Kauai vacation. It turned out OK. I had gotten some courtesy points from BK customer service, enough for a free whopper. So used the app to place an order as we were leaving the beach, so we could pick it up as we headed back to our hotel. The whopper did end up free, and unlike other promotions, I could apply the buy 3 items (whopper jr, original chicken sandwich, fries, drinks) for $7 promotion here (though it's $10 in Hawaii, where it is $8 in Long Beach where I live, and $7 in most other places in the country). The food was ready and we got it via the drive-thru as promised. This location allowed adding tomatoes to my chicken sandwich, heavy lettuce/pickles/onions on my whopper, and getting a plain bacon cheeseburger for my wife. We were satisfied....my only (big) complaint is that the burger artist refuses to acknowledge any toppings being asked for 'heavy'...even though it was marked as being done, it contained the same amount of toppings as a regular version. "Have it your Way?"...Not.

Service is good from conscientious and hard working employees. Food was good and fresh, but the softdrink machine was shut down and refills had to be requested from the counter.

Shirley Temples were a touch light on syrup, but large. The waiter seemingly disappeared for awhile. We were ready to order, but had to wait about 15 minutes until he appeared again at our table. We ordered garlic knots, mozzarella sticks, 2 Caesar salads, 1 Italian salad & BBQ chicken wings to start. Kids loved the garlic knots & mozzarella sticks. The Caesar salads were good w/ delicious dressing. Italian salad was filled with goodies & dressing was tasty. BBQ wings were very good w/ mango BBQ sauce, served w/ ranch dressing. Ordered 3 medium pizzas: cheese, Hawaiian & pesto-rrific. All 3 were well-liked. The pesto was unusual with chicken, bacon, pesto & ranch dressing. It was a good combination of flavors. We had to wait again to pay our check. Once again there was one waiter & several busboys. It is definitely a problem that one waiter covers a large restaurant. What can't be denied is that this is the nicest pizza restaurant possible with fantastic views. As well as upscale decorating. The history of the restaurant is that it was the Bali Hai, a fine dining experience. Then it closed for a number of years when there was a kitchen fire. Not sure why the investors didn't choose to bring back the Bali Hai or another upscale restaurant. While we enjoy Wikipizza, I'd rather have an upscale restaurant.

I'm no expert…read more... But I have travelled enough by plane that I've learned a few tricks along the way. And when traveling 6 hours across the Pacific Ocean, the last thing you want to be is hungry mid-flight. Sure.... Maybe a couple of bags pretzels and your favorite complementary soft drink will get you through, but not for me. Or maybe you are all about that "fancy" charcuterie board, a bag of Air-Dried beef Jerky and a plastic cup filled with your favorite wine that is offered by the said airline once you hit cruising altitude which will set you back about $27bucks if you're lucky. Just make sure that credit card is ready as no cash is accepted. Well, after experimenting the last few trips we've taken to Kauai with different food options to take on the plane for once we get hungry, we have discovered that Subway is our new best friend. Not only can you customize your sandwich to what you like, but we've noticed that the sandwich stays intact and travels pretty well until it's time to eat. My only advice, get the condiments on the side, otherwise you will have a very soggy sub. So here's how WE do it! While on the way to the airport, we log into our trusty subway app, select the Lihue location and pre-order our sandwiches and chips. Within 15 min or so, we pop into Subway, grab our subs and off to airport security we go. A little X-ray radiation in my sub won't kill me, will it?? Once boarded, happily in my seat hoping that the empty seat next to us is someone that won't mind my 3 crazy kids for six hours; we are read for takeoff! About an hour in the air and well into our cruising altitude when the flight attendants start making their way down the aisle asking what everyone wants to drink and handing out those tiny bag of pretzels, we are anxiously unwrapping our freshly made 6" subs knowing we will soon be filling our bellies with goodness. Meanwhile, the person next to us is drooling with envy... Don't worry, I'll give them our extra bag of pretzels. So... Your next flight home from Kauai, I suggest stopping by Subway in Lihue, grabbing your favorite 6" of 12" sub and remember how happy you will be once you're 35,000 feet in the sky. But as much as you love 'em as I do, please for the sake of everyone else on the plane, hold off on the onions. After an hour or so... They gonna stink! Safe Travels and remember... Eat Fresh!
