Wow if I could rate this more than 5 stars I would! My bf and I were looking for a quick bite and it was already kind of late and the bar lines were forming which we wanted to avoid. I saw a sign for this spot and when I looked it up I saw they also served Indian street food, not just Kulfi. What really drew me in was that they had "gol guppa " which is hard to find at any Indian restaurant around here, so I knew it was authentic. We met the owner Gurpreet (who is also a dj as demonstrated by the great playlist) and he was more than gracious even though it was close to their closing time. Upon entering I am greeted. The atmosphere is fun and festive. I love the little sitting embeded in the wall where you can take a selfie. I have been here a few times and what impresses me the most is the effort of the management and staff to make sure you have a wonderful food experience. I ordered some sort of noodles and they were a bit to spicy for me , so they took them back and re-made them. I was blown away by this . I also had the Mango Spritzer. This was so delicious. I first discovered Kulfi Me on Yelp while searching for a spot that stays open late. It's about an hour's drive from where I live, but I finally decided to make the trip with family because I was excited to try it. The shop itself is small, with seating for maybe six people. The walls are covered with flyers and art, giving it a casual, colorful vibe. One thing that stood out to me, though, was a bit of confusion with pricing. The front sign said "Any Kulfi on a stick $5," but when I ordered the malai kulfi on a stick, I was charged $7.50. When I asked, the owner explained that there are different sizes, though I had gotten the regular small stick. He was saying something about volume, but there was no indication of that on their menu. They also have a promotion where scanning a QR code gets you a "free kulfi." However, the freebie turned out to be ice cream in a tiny sample cup rather than an actual kulfi, which felt a little misleading compared to what the signs suggested. We tried these 3 items: Dubai Chocolate Kulfi: This was my favorite of the bunch. rich and flavorful, though it leaned a bit salty and slightly stale. I'd rate it 4/5. Malai Kulfi: Classic, but nothing more than that. Falooda: It had way too much syrup at first, which made it overly sweet. After I asked for more milk to balance it out. Also it took almost 20 mins for them to make it. I am a falooda fan but their falooda missed for me. Overall I appreciate that Kulfi Me is open late, it's definitely nice to have dessert options at night. That being said, I was hoping for a bit more consistency and clarity in the promotions and pricing. If you go, I'd recommend trying the Dubai Chocolate Kulfi. Please don't get misled by their deals. I went here on Galentine's with my bestie, and we had the most amazing time! The place has a beautiful ambience and such a cozy vibe. It's family-owned, and the mother-son duo are some of the warmest and kindest people you'll ever meet. They were incredibly respectful and served us with so much love and care. The food was absolutely delicious! We had Maggi and the Poppin Paneer Sandwich with Indian fries, along with tea. For dessert, we tried their Kulfi platter -- and wow! The best part of this spot is how nice the woman working here was. She saw that I had a dog and offered us a free dog-friendly ice cream, telling us how much she loves dogs and she even high fived mine. I tried two flavors of kulfi -- a pistachio one and an almond/pistachio/cashew/cardamon/saffron one. What I liked about both of them was that it wasn't too sweet while still feeling as satisfying as ice cream. Additionally the nuts were finely ground for a smooth but filling texture. I noticed that it melted much slower than other types of ice cream, which was also a perk. We found parking across the street and went in. The interior is cozy and the winter afternoon sun gave the diningroom a cozy vibe. There interior is like a typical icecream shop, it has limited seating capacity. But it is clean and spacious feeling within the space it has. The menu includes a lot of classic inidna street food choices as well as kulfi. From what I recall, there was Maggi Noodles as well as Gol Gappa. They also have lassis and other drinks and snacks. But, I came for the Kulfi. There are 5 flavors to choose from. I got the Rose flavor and my wife got the Malai flavor. You have a choice of having your kulfi on a stick (like popsicle) or in a cup. We got it in a cup. The taste was so authentic. From the texture to the taste, everything felt like the kulfi you get in India. The rose kulfi had a slight taste of rose withoit being overwhelming. The Malai is the classic flavor and you can't go wrong choosing that. And finally, a shoutout to the Aunty who was taking our orders and serving us the kulfi, She was a pleasure to speak to and she did a fantastic job befind the counter. Love the concept - the ice cream flavor itself is so good, very nutty and the rose was very pungent - our favorite was the pistachio flavor, we liked being able to try the three flavors in the combo mixed with the dessert/jelly noodles. The texture was creamy on the outside but a bit frozen/hard inside. We came on Sunday around noon and a lot of the flavors were out and the cakes were also delicious not available anymore. His Mom served us, no smile, that needs to change. Better off calling my name and I pick up from the counter. The owner was polite but over welcoming or too engaging, which made it a rush order. Given the location (Newport Beach), it might help to have staff who can connect more with the local community and explain the flavors or background of the product to new customers. The lady serving (probably owners mom) is not smiley. Better to just keep her in the back. Also, hire a local make it feel organic instead of a transplanted Indian shop. Ambiance is bad. I sat by the window which was covered by posters and copy paper (specials I guess). That was annoying. It's the beach let me look outside. No tables outside so clear the darn window!
