Best french bakery in Orange county. I swear I thought I was in France, the quality, the taste, the freshness and everything else is just beyond description! If anything I go to France for is their delicious bakeries and food. Now I know that I don't have to fly so far to eat delicious French baking goods. Concerned about what was happening, I soon realized it was the owner "Nina" speaking very disrespectfully to her employees, demeaning, and completely inappropriate. As a customer, it was upsetting to witness. I felt terrible for the young staff members and the way they were being treated. The owner's tone and the things being said were unprofessional, HOSTILE, and inappropriate for a workplace. It created an uncomfortable atmosphere and experience. It's disappointing to see employees spoken to in such a manner. No one deserves to be treated disrespectfully while doing their job. especially from the business owner. Lovely French cafe on PCH right across from a farmers market. You order at a counter, grab a number, and then find a seat either inside or outside. They were a little backed up on waiting tables but if they see you sit down someone will come clear it. I'm not sure if they have paper menus but it was hard to read the board on top while waiting in line as it was a large menu. I got a cappuccino, ratatouille crepe with egg whites and a strawberry croissant. The crepe was made with buckwheat flour or some other wheat flour rather than white flour and came with some fruit. This little place, nestled in Newport, California, on the E Coastal Highway, exudes a French theme and offers a delightful Saturday tea time. I thoroughly enjoyed their breakfast; it was delicious and the service was impeccable. However, I would suggest that they ensure their eggs are cooked to the desired temperature, as mine arrived lukewarm instead of hot. It was simply cooked and not left to sit for a minute. I absolutely adore this place. I have been able to try many of the items including the beignets (YUM) and turkey and cheddar croissants ( also YUM). Plus, they have French onion soup! The location is great. There's tons of local shopping like florists, home decor, and toy stores on the same block. I love coming here and spending part of my day wandering around. The beach is also 3 blocks away, so grab a coffee and enjoy the view! My visit this time is in regard to the Quiche Lorraine. The pastry on top is perfectly buttery and flaky. The star of the show is the bacon: it's salty and delicious. Every bite is stellar. They truly pack so much into this dish. I have never been more impressed with a quiche, and that's hard to achieve! Cute little pink cafe with brunch and lunch options. Stumbled into this pink playhouse post work out. One standout was their endless options for both savory and sweet crepes. Wanted to try them all. This time decided on the La Nordic crepe which consisted of smoked salmon, Gruyère cheese, and lemon chantilly. Honestly the salmon was more cooked than I was hoping for and a bit fishy side. Flavor was ok but wished I had ordered the other I was eyeing...La Tomato (mozzarella, tomato, and basil) or the La 4 seasons (scrambled eggs, cheese, and variety of veggies). Paired with a strawberry matcha which was good but nothing special. Added the flourless chocolate cake. So soft but but on the dry side. Flavor was just ok. So flaky, crunchy with melted Parmesan cheese on top of ham one. Inside was so airy...with a bit of ham on the bottom! We shared chicken Alfredo with little edible flowers adorned the edge and huge slides of Parmesan covered the whole plate. It came with two slices of their own bread! Thick creamy sauce was so flavorful as we break up the cheese and mixed it in, good size roasted chicken, very filling! I was so hungry that I didn't take a picture, but showcased what's onsite. I am very fond of anything lemon so I had to give it a try. There was not enough lemon, but the pockets of sugar was fun. I was a bit disappointed but I'll come back and try their other offerings. I also got a chocolate croissant to go. It was toward the end of the day and it was still very good. I saved it for the next day, toasted it up a bit and enjoyed it with some tea. Great service. Overall very nice experience at an expected price for the location. Also the seating is a bit tight. Total spend for 2 eating a brunch came to $60. Note $3.69 was taxes and $8.59 was tip I had the Croque Mansieur $16 with ham. Very good bread and overall a nice sandwich. Medium mocha $6.75. Good and the whipped cream held up well during drinking. Also had avocado toast $17. Very good Medium Biscoff latte $8. Sweeter than coffee. Very nice. The outside table was very small and not much rom around it. Very much like in Paris. Only the excessive street noise broke the atmosphere. Service was split by counter order and someone to deliver the drinks and then food. I would have liked to see more effort at cleaning tables when people left. There are not many and they are needed as soon as someone leaves. So the goodness is matched by the price and expected for the location. Rendez Vous is located on one of the main streets in Corona del Mar. We came during the week and so parking wasn't an issue but I can see it as a challenge during a busy weekend or prime time hours. Walking in, I immediately got the French vibes - pastries in cases, cafe menu, indoor and outdoor seating. I want to say taking in the ambiance was my favorite part of my experience here. We ordered a few coffees and pastries and got situated in a corner table. I only wish their customer service, their coffee and their pastries were in sync with their aesthetics. We didn't get the cheery, merry mood that most people are in during this time of the year; she wasn't welcoming or warm or approachable. It had the 2 cookies on top but inside is where the real magic is. It had a cookie heated to the perfect temperature that when you bite in, it oozed out the most amazing goodness. Next we had the La Payasanne, which was delicious. The chicken was so tender, when you bit into it, it just melted in your mouth. The combination of the cheese, mushrooms and sauce just made this dish 2 thumbs up. The other item was the Croque Madame. The ham, cheese, and sauce was nestled between 2 thick slices of toast. It could have used a little more sauce for my taste but the flavor was still amazing. I would definitely eat it again. My friend really really likes the almond croissant here. She been wanting to take me here to try it. I didn't have plans today, so I decided to go with her. Right when we walked in, I was happy to see all the pastries. The setup, like the seating and the decor, made the bakery look very cute. We got an almond croissant, butternut squash soup, and egg Benedict (smoked salmon). I didn't think any of the items we got really stand out. My fav was probably the butternut squash soup. I didn't feel the salmon was that fresh. Overall, the benedict it was ok. The almond croissant was good, but it can't compare to places I have been to. It was fresh, for sure. It had enough filling but lacked the almond flavor. It was served warm, so kudos for that. I wanted to try their drinks, but my friend didn't let me order it even though I was the one paying. Their canelé, which I happened to grab the last one still staring me off in the amongst the flaky ones, was well made. I'm no expert in canelés, but one would imagine this was properly executed. Maybe it needed a little more moisture but the overall charr on the outside verses burnt taste ratio was-- cue the pinky -- inspirational. If I'm slightly more ambitious I'd try and hack it. All the prices look very very reasonable and the available tiny bites of beignets, tartlets, quiches.. i want!!
