They forget to serve you some items and you have to ask them several times for something, takes atleast 5-10 mins and you have probably finished whatever you wanted to eat it with or it has gone cold! Fantastic food and on a banana leaf. As authentic as if you were to travel to India and eat at a good Indian restaurant. The spice level was good and it was scrumptious and delicious. The best spot for us to get lunch whenever we have the weekend off! The concept of the meal on a banana leaf is just too good ! Kumars ambience is excellent, but the pricey thali they served was not so great.. Disappointed with the not-so-great service and mediocre tasting food. Chapathi, sweet, curd rice and biryani were the only items I liked from the thali. Rasam was salty, palya and sambar had mushy Vegetables. Dal and other items were just ok. We ordered for pickup tonight since we have been wanting to try this before the temporary shut down of dine-in for Minnesota due to COVID-19. We are always searching for new places to try since my partner has a close childhood friend whose mother makes the best Indian food so he's typically hesitant to even try other places. But after we read the reviews we definitely said we had to try. The food was done and ready for pickup within about 30ish minutes from when we put the order in. We got it home and it was piping hot, and good sized portions. We got the mutton biriyani and mutton vindaloo, with some garlic naan. My partner said, and I quote "This is the best Indian food after Jainish's Moms, it's a close second" so this is incredibly high praise coming from him! The flavors are rich, deep, intense, and just so so delicious. Big chunks of meat, big soft naan pieces, thick hearty sauce for the vindaloo. My partner forewarned me to watch out, if it's more on the authentic side it will have bones. (Spoiler we found bones ) So incredibly happy we decided to get this tonight and can't wait for dine in to be an option again. One word of advice is order from their website for pickup, it's actually way cheaper even without the $7 random discount they gave us. Door dash with free delivery was 46.07 without tipping the driver and from Kumar's site with the $7 discount and a 20% tip of $7 it came out to $37! One of those spots you want to make sure they get all the money straight to them so they can survive COVID-19 and continue to serve the south metro area for years to come!! read more

Amazing service. They let me charge my phone and even made up an off-the-menu dish for my pregnant wife!! I didn't eat a lot of different things, but I liked the chutneys with the vadai, the sambar was rich, the rose milk packed a punch, and the chai was nice. (It may have even been free, but I never saw an itemized receipt). The soft cooked egg was...it was...well, it was only $4 . Plus, my waiter's cousins or cousin's kids (who are adorable) were giggling at the back table. I love when family businesses feel like family businesses. Please avoid visiting on weekdays.We went for my birthday lunch treat on Wednesday and the food was stale, undercooked, smelly and pathetic. They reheated the old rice and gave us which was refrigerated for God knows how many days! The sambhar in Thali was old and smelled. The mutton gravy had only bones in it. Nothing tasted good except the kebabs.. The vegetable biryani and kurma was stale as well.They just reheat the left overs from weekends and feed us.we had two small kids with us who could not eat anything because of their rice quality... Please avoid.I would have given zero stars for ruining my day and for the embarrassment caused! read more

I enjoyed the uniqueness of the vegetarian options and was very pleased with the interesting flavors. Most in our party liked their dishes but some were overwhelmed by the heat. Two factors lowered my score: Inadequately trained staff - although our server was pleasant and generally attentive, he could not describe most of the dishes. As you can see from the menu, these are not common dishes. Fortunately the "random" selection process we had to employ worked out for the most part. The overpowering incense smell competed with the food and necessitated a load of laundry and a shower upon arriving home. The men's room was clean but the urine removal spray and the riding floor cleaner could have been placed someplace less conspicuous. The food won out and we may try again in a few months. read more

It's hard to know where to start with what's wrong here. The first thing we noticed was our feet sticking to the floors. Then I went to the restroom to wash my hands before eating and the bathroom was really not good. Not clean. Not kept up. We should have just left, but we were intrigued by the banana leaf "buffet." Just, so much was bad. The food was barely edible. What was billed to us by our server as "beef" was really really awful fish. The wait staff didn't seem overly interested in working. After picking at the food, which was more bones than meat, we left and immediately wondered if we were going to get sick. We did indeed experience some gastrointestinal issues. When telling a friend about our experience they shared that someone else they knew has ended up at the doctor with food poisoning after eating here. Steer clear! read more

Very poorly managed restaurant, lack of front desk. In spite of reservation we had to wait 90 minutes. Inexperienced staff. Got menu after 25 minutes of getting seated. Worst experience! Response to owners comments: You are right, we came late and got added to waiting list again at 7.30pm and we got seated at 9.00pm (90 minutes) and got menu at 9.25 pm But to be fair, food was great, one of the best non-vegetarian food I have had in us. I ordered take out and wasn't very impressed. Expensive for what you get, the palak paneer (or saag) was well spiced but the rice was beyond overcooked and a mushy mess. How do you mess up rice?! Kumars. Nice place and an amazing experience overall. Drove down on snowy day with friends and family - had an awesome time on cold winter day. For straters the place is clean. For a change it has theme and culturally rich. They served us food on banana leaf with a plate. Servers lined up right away with starters and food. Sincere suggesstionn it would really help if the serverrs are familiar with what they are surving. The kolumbu veg lacked few egg plant beggies however everything else was pretty neat. So far the best South Indian Food Restaurant in the Minneapolis area!! We had been for the weekend unlimited banana leaf lunch buffet and the taste was very authentic to its core. Also had a second chance to visit here to dine-in and try out the a la carte menu which was worth it ! Few little things(not food) could improve the overall restaurant management, but could be neglected as it was only their soft opening.. Looked like this place even attracted its competitors (other major indian restaurant in EP area), may be they came to understand better about this new opening or may be they we really hungry and was in that area to have a munchful dinner. Soooooo delicious! Very flavorful, outstanding dishes. Generous portions as well. Enough to share. We had the chennai chilli mushrooms which were scrumptious, the dosai masala the size of my leg: an endless adventure of crunchy flavor and the kuli paniyaram to start. We're had eaten ourselves silly before our entrees came out and my only regret is that I couldn't eat more. I had saag paneer for my entree which puts any other saag paneer I've ever had to shame and my date had mutton kolambu that was tender and tasty but he would recommend the boneless version. Lousy customer service and mediocre food. We had ordered our food online and the pickup was at 6.15 pm. At 6.20 pm, the food wasn't ready despite the notification we got that the food is ready. We are generally okay to wait because delays are a part of the deal at times. However, the person at the desk showed no remorse and told us that it will take 15 more mins. Annoyingly, they said "it is online platform's problem not ours". This reflects poorly on the intent of the restaurant to deal nicely with their customers. I direct everyone to more customer friendly and tastier food restaurants like Godavari if they crave a good south Indian meal. Kumar's - you really have got to up your game read more

Lets start by rating the experience of the over hyped new spot in Minneapolis: 1. Poor reception: They recommend you to book a table and we sincerely obeyed. We booked a table for 6, for dinner on a Friday night. We reached the spot on time and once we get in, though the place was crowded, there was no one to receive us or even care to come out to see whats with the queued up line at their lobby. After about 15 mins, one of us had to go inside and tell them about it and then we were seated. We were annoyed by this time and did I tell you that our party of 6 contain 2 toddlers? Yes, when being seated there was no courtesy to get us high chair/ a booster until we demanded for one and it came another 10 mins later. 2. Poor order management/ service: As soon as we sat down, we were given menu and was asked to give out the orders immediately. We were surprised because 1 - the place is new and how would you expect your customers to know your full ala-carte menu to order and 2 - the menu given out were not the full menu as it said in the top it is just a "Soft Launch" menu. We asked for some time to decide and for the next 30 mins there was no one coming to check on us till we grabbed someone again and asked what's happening. He explained us that the orders have piled up and they are not taking new orders at-least for the next 15 mins. So after 15 min delay to get seated for a reserved seat; 45 min wait to order we waited a full one hour to even order our food. Order was placed now: Aatu kaal soup - 1 Veg kothu parotta - 1 Parotta plate with veg salna - 1 Parotta plate with chicken salna - 2 Mysore "Masala" dosa - 1 Basundi - 1 After a solid 20 mins, we just get "veg kothu parotta" and nothing else for the next 20. The server passing by had the guts to even ask us if we needed a box for the parotta. We shouted unanimously that our food even has not come yet and this is wrong of him to ask if we need to box up the one dish that came to begin with. After some apologies and another 15 mins, all our orders are served and guess what - Mysore masala dosa is served sans masala now. This is the boiling point for us. We had to return it twice and explain that I had ordered specifically for Mysore masala dosa. Not mysore dosa, not masala dosa but the divine combination of both. We had to remind about basundi again when he asked if everything is served. Finally our table is filled with the food that we ordered after about a patience of 90 minutes and I must appreciate the behavior of our toddler kids during this time. They were the best thing that happened during this visit. They played with each other and even kept us engaged. 3. Overrated food: My friend had the soup and told upfront that it is bland. There was a bone in as you'd expect but it felt like it was just decorative. Veg kothu parotta - felt like we were eating a samosa chat prepared with shredded parotta pieces. This is inot the typical taste one is accustomed to if you had eaten it back in home. Plain parotta with salnas - this is the only reason the place gets 3 stars after this denouncing review. I'd recommend anyone visiting the place to just close your eyes and order this out of the menu (if you are seated and provided with one). There were 3 parottas for a plate and the salnas came in a mini bucket. It is more than sufficient for the three parottas and even some more. They tasted good and brought back good old memories of my Chennai days. Mysore masala dosa - Not worth the fight and explanation that I had to give earlier. "Sirku oru oooothappam" is what I got. (If you know what I mean :P) Basundi - was an ok ok dessert. We wanted to have Jigarthanda but they said it can't be done at the moment. Verdict: If you have a lot of time (take a board game if you can) and even more patience, then go to this spot. Else chill in your home with beer and frozen kawan / malaysian parottas. It might save you agony, even if you don't experience the bucket salna. PS: There were apologies made by the management during these long wait times and also when we were about to leave, but that didn't make the experience right. read more
