Baasto (spaghetti and tomato sauce), suqaar (beef chunks) and salad. This is a home plate as it was a to-go order

So much love for my beloved Sambusa King. My go-to for all things: lazy nights when I don't feel like cooking (take-out on fleek) and a worthy appetizer companion for when I'm hosting (sambusa's on FUHLEEK). Literally love this place for all it is - flaws and all. I think other commenters are right. There's definitely a family/friend dynamic in the shop always but it shouldn't bother you if all you want is the food. Tables are a hit or miss with wipe-downs and sometimes you have to tell them to wipe a table for you which they'll do. Just like any high-volume food place, they do run out of some things but they always allow you to substitute for something else. E.g. I wanted the suqaar (beef cubes sautéed in carrots and peppers) with chapati but today they had run out of chapatti and they let me substitute with baasto (spaghetti bolognese's Somali cousin). Food: always so flavorful! Meats and entrees are always made to order so they come out piping hot and super yummy. I've never had problems with their food and the extra banana gives any dietitian a smile! Would I come back: ALWAYS! I love the food! Not a giant fan of the atmosphere so I'd never eat there but I'll always go back for that yumminess

This is what 7 bucks get you. Beef kabob, spiced rice, and a salad.

Happened upon this place by accident because the restaurant we tried to go to, seemed to be closed. My lunch mate and I were a little apprehensive as the place was empty, small, in a bit of a shambles (the menu is partially covered by equipment), and the first thing we ordered "wasn't ready." We eventually picked some things and sat down and waited to see what would come out. Turns out, this is the proverbial awesome hole-in-the-wall restaurant! Huge portions of really flavorful food. We tried the beef kabob (will post picture soon) and beef sambusa and both were really delicious. The place is a little hidden; tucked next to an office building behind a strip mall and partially obscured by an Arby's. Definitely worth finding if you are in Hopkins and looking for Middle Eastern/African (Somalian) food.

I've never eaten goat before but I finished my entire plate! The spices were subtle and perfect. I shared entrees with my 9 and 11 year olds, who went, kicking and screaming and wanting McDonalds and who were later fighting over the leftovers! My favorite entree was the gyros, least favorite was the beef. To quote my 9 year old, " the food is fancy, this restaurant isn't."

Super friendly and great food! Casual place next to Halal market. Love these smiling faces and excellent food flavor! Gem in the rough!

This was my first experience with Somali food (ever), and I really enjoyed it. Everyone at this restaurant is really friendly: the cook helped my choose exactly the perfect dish for how I was feeling, and the portions were HUGE (enough for two). I had the goat, which was very tough but also very well spiced and super tasty. The rice was a real winner too. Do it!

Great, authentic Somalian food. Doesn't look super-clean, but I guess that's part of the ambiance.

I went in and asked a question about a menu item and nobody could answer me. Clearly nobody spoke English. Had to leave.

the goat was equal to the task and had great flavor, and was cooked perfectly as it simply fell of the bone!

The potatoes were the star, but truly, every bite bursted with flavor. Such a great time. We'll definitely be back!

It was supposed to be a surprise dinner so I had booked the reservation 15 minutes before I told my friend to arrive. She arrived while we were all still waiting outside for our table, which wasn't the end of the world, but it would have been more fun if we had been at the table instead of standing around outside. I thought the food was pretty good! Got the steak and it was cooked perfectly. However, it wasn't mind blowing or anything super special. Just good. I'd come back because the vibes are cute!

Ordered the Boujee Bene which tried to be an elevated dish of tequila flambéed shrimp ceviche on arepas topped with poached eggs and hollandaise. The arepas were actually bland masa corn cakes, so they were thick and dense with no crispness or browning. I asked the server about this and she confirmed they no longer made arepas but hadn't updated the menu. This could have been forgiven if the rest of the dish had any flavor beyond raw onion and garlic. The hollandaise had no flavor either, and they had no salsas or anything else to add other than tobacco and Chahula. The shrimp was minimal and also bland. There was a corn "salsa" (also bland) so that added some texture, but the dish overall was quite disappointing. My friend ordered the farmers table breakfast and said pancakes and Perkins were better. Maybe other meals are better, but brunch was disappointing.

The service was spectacular we were seated fast and didn't have to wait too long for our food. We started off with the bottomless mimosas which were made perfectly. I liked the deviled eggs more than I thought I would. They had a nice crunch and good flavors. I got the boozy French toast, I was a little disappointed that there was no fresh fruit on the menu but the French toast was perfect. The hash browns were a little over cooked for me but overall it was a pretty solid breakfast and we will definitely visit again soon. We utilized a free parking garage during our visit and walked less than a block to dine in.

We made a reservation on both occasions but didn't have to make it too much in advance so it's always worth checking on. Service is always spectacular with a huge attention to detail and really customized spiels about the menu. The things I've recently tried for drinks have included the spritz del ambratta, the fiore, and a sparkling red from their wine selection. I find myself going back to the Fiore and would recommend that most although their wine is a solid selection as well. In my opinion, the best starter combination is the focaccia plus the lemony beans. The focaccia is solid and it's so good to dip in the mixture that the beans are doused in. The Caesar was decent as well but you can't miss with that other combo. Then, of course, the mains. If you love creamy pasta, do yourself a favor and get the cavatelli. One of my favorite dishes I've had there; I kept almost comparing it to an adult Mac and cheese. Great for sharing if creamy pastas are a bit too rich for your liking. The lasagna is always a close second and you can't go wrong with it. My friend adored the pickle pizza and I thought it was solid too although I would still probably get the cavatelli or lasagna if you are between that and the pizza. Another great shareable. The saffron spaghetti was decent with some really good bite from the noodles and the taste of saffron really coming through, but I would probably get those other dishes before I would order that. On the first occasion, I was there we were celebrating two of my friends' 30th birthdays and H&S did such a good job of celebrating and making them feel special plus they brought out French silk pie cannolis for us plus glasses of sparkling wine, so I would highly recommend this place as a celebratory dinner. I hope it becomes a big mainstay in twin cities/twin cities adjacent cuisine.
