But Kumo of fort myers has taken saving a Penney to another level. Their sauces are watered down and tasteless, they're short staffed with a bartender that is sometimes there and sometimes not during the course of an hour, we had a 7pm reservation and had to wait until 8pm to finally get seated! The portions are laughable at best. Talk bout skimping out, barely half a spatula of rice meat and vegetables yet the prices are still ridiculously high. Where I used to take a small box home to enjoy at a different time I ate everything on my plate and was still hungry when I got home! Went to the Ft Myers location. Ordered shrimp hibachi to go and a roll. Got home. No shrimp but full of beef. We'd don't eat beef. Called and got a refund by phone for the beef order. They would not give refund for the roll over the phone but would in person. Drove back and they say no not given you a refund. I disputed that and told them what the lady said over the phone. Was not yelling. Just explaining why the refund was appropriate. Apparently a server didn't like the discussion I was having and chimed in aggressively like he was security. I asked if he was a manager and he was not. He still wanted to act like security and almost challenged me to a fight. Based on the spectacle that the tough guy server made the manger finally gave me the refund because the tough guy server was about to get a broken jaw or get choked out. Don't go here. But I can't agree with their current policy of adding 18% to your bill as a tip. My wife, son and I went there tonight and had a great time but when the bill arrived, I couldn't help but think that it seemed a little high. I asked are serverMiguel and informed him that I had a Groupon, he took the bill and told me that my cost would only be $38 after the Groupon. I gave him my credit card and as he went away I calculated the tip in my head. When it all didn't add up, I asked to see the bill again. It was at this time that I noticed it now said. Split 3 ways chef/server and the word tip was circled. I asked the group sitting with us if they added a tip to their bill and they informed me that they did. When I pointed out that they had already added 18% for a tip. They were shocked. They thanked us for pointing this out because otherwise, they would have ended up leaving a 38% tip. From the moment we walked in, to the moment we walked out, smiles were on our faces. We were immediately seated at the hibachi table upon our arrival, where we were greeted to a soup and salad. (Phenomenal!) Within no time our chef arrived and he entertained us all with the usual Japanese Steakhouse traditions with his own twists. Ok, I should have known better than to go to a random Japanese restaurant in a strip mall. But I was being optimistic and risky. We went on a holiday, thinking it wouldn't be too crowded, and it wasn't. We decided to sit at a hibachi, since we were celebrating a birthday of my mother in law. Look, my first judgement here may be a personal one, and will affect every one of these types of restaurants I visit, but sometimes I really hate sharing a table with strangers. If you're somewhere where everyone is at an equal playing field, looking for the same experience, that's one thing. But here, we were seated with an elderly couple and a father and his child. Again, I should have known better before diving in. But it was just strange. The other half of the table wasn't talking to each other, let alone the table. Nor having any cocktails or really seeming to enjoy themselves, which made the experience all that more awkward for us. Now, that aside, the food was also a bit disappointing. The portion were huge, as you'd expect. But the quality was just lackluster. I ordered the salmon which was some of the fishest, rank tasting salmon I've ever had. Clearly been sitting in a freezer for a long time. Something else that was almost enough to ruin an appetite was the big bowl of butter the chef was using. He kept calling it butter, but it was a bright, almost neon shade of yellow. No thanks. The other half of the restaurant is a sushi bar, and I'm hoping that's a bit better. Very interesting location at the end of small complex next to The Publix. I was a bit disappointed because the actual hibachi grille was not available during lunch. However the food quality was definitely excellent. We ordered shumai and gyoza which was very tasty and lightly drenched with sauce. Lunch shrimp hibachi was good portion and more than enough for one person. My coworkers ordered eel rolls and maki combo special. They were well prepared with more fish than the rice which is always good. I would recommmend to anyone nearby looking for humble and delicious japanese lunch. read more

I picked kumos for my birthday lunch and was very disappointed. They use to have awesome sushi but yesterday 3 Of us got sick from eating there. When they brought out the sushi i thought it smelled but then I thought it was just me. Came into work today and 3 people said how they got sick last night. Stay away from this restaurant. Best example of how not to run a restaurant. Made reservations 3 weeks ago for 7:30 pm on Valentine's Day. Arrived there at 7 to find a sign on the door stating reservations only. Fought the crowd only to find the greeter was busy doing a number of different duties except greeting and accepting our reservations. Waiting at her counter, we noticed various people being accepted without prearranged reservations. I spoke up and was told that we would have to wait another 15 to 20 minutes. In the meantime other patrons were being accepted with minimal waiting. We spoke to the greeter/ cashier/server a number of times. We finally left without eating at 8:45! We won't be back! Visited the place on xmas day. Service was horrible. Waitress' English wasn't good. Had to wait 15mins on water n another 10mins for the green tea, i ordered both at the same time. Hibachi chef was rude, told us hes a busy man when the plates werent available because we were talking n our hands were on the plates. We had hibachi filet mignon n lobster. Filet was too salty n lobster was a bit overdone plus dosed with too much seasoning. Also had the chirashi, new york roll n quail egg on top of flying fish roe, which were good as they were fresh. Clear n miso soup both were so so, salad had way too much dressing plus dressing had no flavor. Probably wont be going back. read more

Cape Coral location..... We went between Christmas and New Years. 7 in our party. Three out of 7 ate from the kitchen and rest ate hibachi. Well I'm extremely sick and went to Hospital. I was so sick I got dehydrated. The two others were sick as well but I.... needed to get to ER ASAP As for I am immune suppressed I asked for my food to be cooked and cooked well letting them know about my condition. I was reassured not a problem not a problem. Well I got results back and came down with PIVRIO WHICH IS FROM UNCOOKED SHELL FISH! The next day well the hospital needed to reported to the health department and I got a call from the health department asking if any of the parties was sick as well with symptoms. Horrible. I read the reviews and should not have gone! They served our last roll (spider roll) way after the rest and it tasted days old. Not fresh tasting at all! And if the wait was not long enough, and the food not tasting fresh, it was ALL RICE as well on that spider. When I told the server, she could and should have cared. She could not care less. Kumo is always a great time! The thing we like most about this place is the consistency. No matter when we go, or how much time has passed between visits...we are always sure Kumo will deliver the same product it always does. The food - the hibachi/sushi mashup is great. It's cool to be able to get good sushi as well as some hibachi favorites. We double date here, and when you do that...it's easy to sample the menu across the board! I know it's a simple dish, but the vegetable fried rice is just awesome. The service - pretty good. It's hard to know who exactly is taking care of your table. Usually we have between 2 and 4 servers interacting with us throughout the night. We don't typically have any major issues, but keeping track of special requests can be a bit daunting when you're having to communicate them multiple times. The atmosphere - this is really my only hang-up with Kumo. I wish the tables and chairs were updated and a little more comfortable. All-in-all, this place is always a good value! It's nice to be able to come into a place and get the same experience every time. That's a rarity in the restaurant world! Great job, Kumo. We'll see you again soon! read more

My wife and my 10 year old niece visited Kumo last Thursday and was seated with another gentleman and his son at a cooktop table, which was attended to by a drunken Chef I kid you not! He tried to do the egg in the hat trick which the egg just landed on the table and splattered everywhere... Also was asking my 10 year old niece where she went to school as she was in uniform and then inappropriately said I can come to your school and play with you. That he knew where the school was .. this guy should not have been working the table he should have been the back sleeping it off... This is probably the 9th or 10th time we've been here at Kumo Steakhouse... My wife said something to management about him..and they pretty much just blew her off....very sad !! read more

DO NOT EAT HERE THEY HAVE LIVE ROACHES CRAWLING AROUND THE RESTAURANT!!!!!!!! We walked in and were told we had to wait 2-3 minutes for a table to get cleaned off, 15 minutes later we were finally seated at our table. It then takes another 15-20 minutes for someone to even come over and greet us/get our drink order. Drinks come and we order our food and then we wait. Appetizers and sushi come out and we eat, another 20-25 minutes pass and then another family is seated with us. We ask the waitress when our food will be cooked and she says we now have to wait for all of these people to order their food, which takes another 10 minutes. We have now been waiting for ALMOST AN HOUR when the hibachi chef finally comes and makes our food. He does his whole show and we start to eat, then one of the people in our party looks over and sees A LIVE COCKROACH CRAWLING ON OUR TABLE. I, being someone who works at a restaurant, walks over to the closest employee and informs them what happened. Two women come over to our table and act like they don't see the roach crawling around, saying "Oh where is it?? Huh??" We point it out to her AND SHE KILLS IT WITH HER BARE HAND. She didn't wipe the table or even clean her hands, she just wiped it off on her pants. The server then comes over and offers us boxes for our food and tells us she's going to go get the check, ARE YOU JOKING????? We tell her we want the food removed and a manager to come to speak to us ASAP because there is no way I am going to pay for this. Another 10 minutes passes and no one has come to the table so the other party and us are growing impatient. We get up to find someone to speak to and one of the employees comes to us and tells us "Here are your checks, we have discounted them 50%." I thought she was joking, so I tell her again that I need manager to come and speak to us and she asks us to sit and someone will come, so we do. A man in a gray t-shirt (who we later found out was the owner) comes over and stares at us, then walks away. We sit for another 5-10 minutes with no one coming over to the table. We get up again and ask the employee if someone is going to speak to us, she points out the owner to me so I say "Hello?? What are you going to do about this sir??" He stares at me and says nothing and then the original employee say "You guys can just leave." This was awful handling on the restaurants part and I am shocked they have not lost more customers over that.
