I love sushi (right next to a nice ribeye as my favorite food) so I was excited to found out there was a local delivery place right next to where I live on 41st and Spruce. Slept in on a Saturday and was feeling lazy so I decided to get some sushi for lunch. Ordered $10.95 lunch combo which was a good deal for three full (8-piece) rolls: I got a tuna roll, spicy salmon crunch roll, and UFO roll (fried imitation crab salad and avocado). Also got a Sweet Heart Roll- spicy crunchy tuna and avocado inside, topped with sliced tuna. The sushi rice felt a little bit old and the fish could've been fresher, but the rolls were pretty big and filling, with a good amount of fish. For the low prices and cheap delivery I can't complain. Don't order from here expecting Morimoto-level food, but if you want quick, satisfying sushi that doesn't break the bank, this is your place. If you order $20+ and pay in cash, they'll take 20% off! read more

For quick, cheap sushi, this will do the job. Depending on the day, the quality can go up or down slightly. The lunch roll special is pretty cheap and allows you to pick soup or salad on the side. They put soy sauce in little cups instead of packets, which I actually appreciate for dip-ability and mix-ability! If you need a quick sushi fix, would recommend this place, but probably not the best for fancier rolls. read more

Really not great. This review is for delivery. We ordered over $40 worth of sushi and the rice used in everything was hard and stale, like it had been sitting around in the fridge for a while. Maybe because it was a Monday night? Either way, rice is one of the main components for sushi so it's pretty important to get right. There are 8 pieces per roll, but that's only because the rolls are SUPER skinny. Also, for some reason the soy sauce was super salty and strong as well. Sushi is usually served with a special type of soy sauce and they definitely did not pair us with the correct one. The only upside is that it was slightly cheaper than other sushi places-- but what is the point if I don't enjoy the food? I will not order here again, especially with many better places in the area for delivery with similar prices and significantly better sushi. read more

Sushi/Sashimi a la carte is priced for one piece, but the sashimi is decently sized. Delivery is free and fast, with a minimum of $10. Was excited to see a new sushi delivery spot open up in this area. I've lived in this area for 10 years now and our only option was Mizu until now. I ordered through Grubhub and received my deliver in about 45 to 60 minutes. I got 8 piece yellow scallion sushi roll, flying fish roe , shrimp and tuna nigiri and also a Special Crunch Crab Salad Avocado Mango roll. First off, the nigiri is priced reasonable at $1.50 for FFR and Shrimp and $2.00 for tuna, but keep in mind you only get ONE piece rather than a set of 2 that many including myself, assume for al a carte nigiri. They were all OK not the freshest but fine to eat. My least favorite roll was the 8 piece " Special Crunch Crab Salad Avocado Mango" don't let the name fool you, not a special roll. How do I describe this.. It was more like a California roll, with no orange mango , maybe they tried to add green mango with the cucumbers / avocado inside? Regardless this isn't what oyu might think. It's not real crab, nor is it a roll with mango on top . It was more so a California roll with cucumbers on the inside with tempura crunch. I've only had vegetable sushi from here (because I'm a vegetarian) so keep that in my mind while you're reading this. It's pretty good! You can't really screw up a vegetable roll like a fish roll. Delivery is usually quick and I'm very grateful for that because this place is one of the only sushi places that will deliver to me. This is my Grubhub take out go to. The quality is good not superior but honestly my favorite part is the AMAZING deals they have on rolls. Super incredibly affordable, ballin' on a budget indeed. Sometimes the food takes a while to be delivered but it's not terrible only when i'm "hangry". I can't speak to the decor or staff but I can honestly say if you want good sushi with many options on special rolls and/or other things besides sushi they have it. I recommend this place to anybody who wants sushi but doesn't want to pay a fortune and still wants quality. The service was adorably cute (sons of the owner I presume ) and they were much quicker than expected. The sushi was decent, considering the location and the interior. It's a tiny space with about 5 seats aka take out preferred The guy got chicken wings and Kani salad and he didn't expect only 3 wings in an order that was about 5$. The Kani salad was definitely not what he's ever had before but he did like it, although it wasn't what was expected; so it's hard to really rate that?? My regular sushi place was closed (Monday) so I went with Kumo sight unseen. The reviews were good recently but not so good awhile back. I opted for pick up vs. delivery since it was a nice walk from my apartment. The online ordering experience (BeyondMenu) was fine, and I liked that you could pay online as well. When I arrived, I thought they were closed and I had lost my money! It looked dark, there was a gate over the door and overall, very uninviting. But the gated door opened and there was my meal, bagged up and ready to go. It was touch-less, which was good. Walking home, I had even lower expectations, considering the look and feel of the property. However, I was pleasantly surprised! I had 2 rolls, 5 pieces of sushi, and 1 special roll....and was VERY happy with all of them! For the affordable (low!) price and convenient location, I would definitely recommend! I would really suggest sprucing up the property, though, as I am SURE it would result in better business, especially since it is a busy food traffic area! read more

I've been ordering from this place once a week since they opened. Since the Penn kids went home the delivery has been lightning fast (I am talking under 15 minutes on more than one occasion, which is insane), but I'm just glad to have a sushi delivery option in West Philly. (Mizu doesn't always delivery out to my block, and they're not on Grubhub anyway.) My only complaint is that I wish they would add non-crunchified spicy rolls to their menu, but I always request without tempura crumbs and they're happy to accommodate. read more

The teriyaki beef came with a lunch-truck shitty box and it was lacking flavor and sloppy. The beef was kinda rubbery too. The sauce seemed like it was squeezed at last instead of mixed well with the dish. The sushi was bad... Especially compared with what I usually get from other places. Eat somewhere else, this place was terrible! We took a chance since the ratings are so high, but like another reviewer said college students apparently know nothing about good sushi. The miso soup tasted like salt water and had no visible tofu. We ordered one roll with "crunch," and instead of adding it to the roll they give you a little container to I guess dip your sushi? My "spicy girl" roll was hardly spicy and my fish was grainy/mealy, suggesting it was poorly cut. The rolls were poorly constructed and fell apart immediately. Overall it wasn't flavorful, even the rice with was bland. Maybe things will get better, but I get the feeling they are cutting more corners than sushi. read more

Delectable sushi! This is my second time ordering from Kumo and once again I am extremely impressed. The UFO with eel sauce is my absolute favorite. Delivery is extremely fast and comes with healthy portions of ginger and AUTHENTIC wasabi. Each roll has eight beautifully succulent pieces. This time I also ordered both the fried and steamed shumai, a shrimp shumai showdown was in order. The steamed shrimp shumai had a a lot of subtle flavors that were lost in the fried shrimp shumai. Crunchy and packed with shrimp, the fried shrimp shumai was also tasty. Overall I have had nothing but positive experiences with this restaurant. Amazing sushi, aggressively priced and fast delivery. Kumo is our at-least-once-a-week takeout regime. Their prices are suspiciously low, but the sushi is spot-on every time. The Connection and Queen rolls are delicious, and just the plain salmon roll always tastes fresh. Their delivery is reliable and quick, and in an instance where they forgot to include a soda we ordered, they gave us one on the house the following time. Kumo is fabulous, and we'll be sorry to lose them when we leave West Philly. read more
