I've always liked bubble tea but recently I started to branch out. I've been trying places all over the city and so far nothing has compared to Kung Fu. They seem to have a formula down that no matter the location my drink is always the same and always good. I recently went somewhere where the taro milk tea was gritty and gross. Forest Hills has had a yogurt place and a FayDa for years, but never a bubble tea shop. You can say this has been in the making for a DECADE. I can't say I was too stoked about Kung Fu Tea itself opening, but just a bubble tea shop would suffice. I knew the menu would be lackluster since it's fairly new so I didn't expect too much. The location is actually not bad; it's not right next to Barnes & Noble as some have said, but it's a few stores down the movie theater on Austin. The menu is small so I get something simple like the herbal jelly milk tea instead. I really don't know what light sugar means to these people but I tasted no sugar at all the first time I ordered and it was overdone with milk. The second time was alright. Service definitely needs some work, especially towards Asians. Maybe because FH is a predominately-white neighborhood and they're trying to cater more to non-Asians, but the service is a joke. The price is not that different from the quality of their service--unnecessary. Paying close to $4 for a standard-size drink with nothing special blows my mind. read more

Only downside is that it gets kind of hot in the place, so not really fun to sit or stand in. That seems to be typical of a lot of bubble tea places lately. This is a pretty decent and convenient place to grab a bubble tea while on Austin Street. No loyalty program, but they do accept cards - including American Express. Some of the flavors taste too artificial (especially rose hip and ginger) for my liking. Overall, though these teas are lovely for a pick-me-up beverage that might help sustain you through a workout. I ordered the grapefruit yogurt drink here; it was refreshing and delicious. Apparently they use fresh squeezed grapefruits, not artificial flavoring. Is it just me or is the this best Kung Fu Tea? After trying the ones in chinatown, Brooklyn, and flushing the tapioca (boba or bubbles) always have that hard center or slimy. But the one in Forest Hills is just the right amount of chewiness. The Bubbles are PERFECT :) . I love how you can adjust the sweetness and amount of ice. Very consistent! I live in Bayside and I will drive to Forest Hills just to get my Bubble tea fix and do some shopping since im in the area. Kung fu tea is decent. It is around the same as other bubble tea alternatives, and is nothing spectacular. I had the Oreo drink. Although it was certainly good and tasted just like oreos, it was very overpriced and was over $5 for a tiny bit of drink. I understand that kung fu tea is a chain and has uniform pricing, but I do not get why something as cheap as melting Oreo ice cream costs as much as it does. The same can be said for other drinks. Everything on the menu was overpriced compared to most other places. The service was average as well. The workers were fast and organized. They did not talk much and did not show hospitality. They speak in Chinese to each other but speak good English as well. Come here if you want to splurge on something that is not worth it, or if you are rich and do not need to worry about money. For the rest of us, it would be better to go somewhere else. read more

I used to frequent this location a lot for the past few years, but recently the quality has gone down. It looks like there's a lot of new staff - hopefully with some training and quality control, things will get better. The last two times I ordered, something was wrong. 1. I ordered green milk tea, but it tasted like just milk... Minus the tea. 2. The last time I ordered (earlier today), the tapioca was all clumped together. Kung fu tea has some my favorite tea combinations that not every bubble tea chain offers. Some of my favorites are the orange green tea and the strawberry lemon green tea. Their regular milk tea is also very good. Actually one of the best I've tried. This location has like 4 tables of seating which is nice because the other locations I go to do not. I've been coming here so often now and trying out new flavors but I like the ones I mentioned above the most. They also have seasonal flavors for the fall and offer a hot option for some of the milk teas! read more

Bad experience today I ordered something they then charged me for it and told me they were out of it, I ordered something else and they did not get my order right and overcharged me for something they did not have. There was also the addition of a language barrier and a poorly trained employee. This company needs to have accountability for their actions by charging people accordingly and they need to train their employees properly so they are not flustered.They need to get their act together otherwise there's other bubble tea places that will be more frequented. read more

I've been here 5 times so far over the course of this summer. I've given it chance after chance after chance, so I suppose I feel pretty silly with what fool me twice the jokes on me. What can I say... when I've gone to order I'd always felt as if I were in the wrong for bothering to go in the first place. I always felt as if I were a nuisance just wanting to order. I always had to have plan B and C choices because the orders I had always gone there for, coincidentally, were sold out. It isn't like I went there back to back.. I certainly allowed some time. I always ended up let down. I also feel the young employees there need to keep their egos in check. They aren't very helpful or friendly. I work in retail myself.. I am aware not all of us, as customers, are exemplary. Many of us suck. I understand it may not be the best paying gig either. That said there should still be a baseline for service where I'm not made to feel as if I should have walked through the door. Today had been the last straw. I figured with 30 minutes to go before closing I'd made it back to my neighborhood just in time to satisfy my craving. I arrived at 7:42PM, to another pair just outside the shop just as let down, to a closed shop. If your hours of operation state you close at 8, that means 8 not 20 minutes to 8 regardless of there being no customers leading up to your end of day. I'd understand 7:55, really I'd get that. Although in this instance it was really lame. Of the 5 times I'd visited only the first time had been the best. I feel it fair to give this 1 out of 5, it serving as a perfect reflection of my visits there. Alternatively... Fey Da has some tasty bubble tea options! The bubble tea here is definitely mediocre at best. I came here on a Sunday afternoon because it was 98 degrees outside and was craving a cold beverage while I ran some errands. I got a coconut milk tea with bubbles (this is all I ever order from bubble tea businesses) and really didn't care for it. The beads were smaller than usual and it was room temperature. I've been to ShareTea franchises so I guess I had high expectations coming to a KungFu Tea location, assuming that all chain bubble teas are good. My other issue was the service. There was 1 other person ordering and it took forever for my drink to come out. This is one of the best bubble tea places in the area and perhaps in the city. My favorite is the Almond Milk Bubble Tea. It is the one I get almost all the time. All the flavors are unique and delicious and I recommend them all. What I really love is that you can adjust the sugar in your drink, you can choose if you want any bubbles or not and if so, what kind of bubbles you'd like. They also offer the bubble tea hot or cold, so it can be enjoyed all year round. It's a good way of enjoying something nice if you're attempting to lose weight. Who said you can't enjoy yourself without breaking the calorie bank? There isn't a terribly long waiting for drinks and there's generally seats available if anyone wants to sit here. Most people take their drinks to go. This is the place where I bring anyone that I want to introduce to supremely good bubble tea. My mom loves this place, my boyfriend is nuts about it. I really like this kung fu tea location, reasons being: 1) THERE IS A SEATING AREA 2) THEY ACCEPT CREDIT CARD AND THERE IS NO MINIMUM... seriously more bubble tea spots need to get with the program 3) You can expect good quality tea from this chain, and the boba is always fresh with the perfect amount of chew. My favorites for Kung fu tea have to be passion fruit green tea with tapioca, honey green tea with tapioca and herbal jelly, and any green tea variation really. Dislike: the taro milk tea, not just at this location but all kung fu locations. Taro is one of the best milk tea flavors but it has a strange after taste in this chain. Because of this I have yet to try any of there other milk teas for the fear its going to have the strange after taste. For now I'll just stick to tea without any milk. read more

I had a miscommunication with one of the bubble tea makers. I told him I would like my green milk bubble tea with Lactaid milk. He then proceeded to make Wow Milk instead. I told him about the mistake, and he called the franchise owner about it. The franchise owner was very nice and cleared things up for me. He told me they couldn't make green milk tea with Lactaid, but he suggested a Wow Milk that's mixed with tea (which is Lactose free milk mixed with Chai tea). I believe it's called Chai Wow Milk. I told him I'll try the Chai Wow Milk and he got the bubble tea maker to make it. I'm happy someone is willing to do something right. Besides the mistake, he seems to be very informative about bubble tea to those who haven't tried bubble tea before. read more

I have been waiting a long time for Kung Fu Tea to open in FH. They finally opened last weekend and just in time too because I had a sudden craving while driving home. Found a parking spot pretty quickly - rare thing on Austin St - and couldn't wait. Walked into the store and I was immediately enveloped with the way too intoxicatingly sweet air from all the sugary drinks, tea, milk, syrup, bubbles, and everything you can name. It's not even something you can get used to. I was the 3rd in line, but it quickly moved because the store ran out of bubbles and needed 30 mins to make more. Instead of my usual black milk tea w/ bubbles, I opted for the grapefruit green tea w/ grass jelly and nata jelly @ 50% sweet. Good combination, but eh - definitely miss the bubbles. Had to dock some stars because of the way too sweet air, not having bubbles, and also the layout can be better - even having only 3 people on line, there's not enough room to stand. But the staff is extremely friendly and did try to accommodate by suggesting other options. Since this KFT branch is still new, I won't write it off yet. Will return until they figure out the kinks. read more

Majority of the time the drinks remain consistent, however, the one thing that sets this location apart is the consistency in the texture and flavor of their bubbles. The teas tend to be overpriced, which isn't an uncommon problem for bubble tea places. Prices are increasing everywhere. The tea is also nothing spectacular as it is the same for every other restaurant or drinks establishment that develops into a chain. What kung fu offers that most other places don't is customization. For those of you who tend to think bubble tea is too sweet, there are less sugar, half, and little sugar options which equate to roughly 30%, 50%, or 70% less sugar. There's also a no sugar option which probably tastes terrible. You can also customize the temperature of your drink using the less, little, or no ice options. The range of choices is refreshing (pun intended). Other than that, it's just another rather expensive but consistent bubble tea option. read more

It's clear that, like any new business, the new Kung Fu Tea on Austin has some kinks to work out. On their first open weekend there were just a few customers at the counter and a trickle of take-outters like me, but it still took awhile to prepare my order. Since I never got around to trying Kung Fu Tea in Flushing (the bubble tea competition has become so stiff there!), I was psyched to try it in my own nabe. While I waited for my order, I snobbily snickered (quietly!) at the local non-Asian denizens who wandered into this new storefront asking lots of Qs about what they served. The customers seated at the counter declared it was delicious as they left (and threw away half a cupful of happy tappy pearls!). So there seems to still be some confusion, lack of knowledge, and ambivalence about bubble tea, but here's to Kung Fu staking out some solid ground on Austin! The tappy pearls are solid and the original black tea does have a distinctive fruit-like flavor, as a previous reviewer noted. It made me want more. But yeah, $4.50 for passion tea + 0.50 boba is pricey for the small size. I hope they start posting those BOGO deals that I see all over Flushing. (3.5 stars) read more
