Service is efficient and friendly enough. You can order ahead online! The bathroom is clean, and parking isn't awful since there is an adjacent neighborhood off Hawthorne. I am so wildly into smoothie bowls. As soon as they burst onto the American scene, I was instantly obsessed. My main complaint about smoothies had always been that they weren't "eatable" enough. Despite the fact that many smoothies can have upwards of several thousand calories, anything drunk through a straw (paper, plastic, or metal notwithstanding) out of a cup just never satisfies. Put it in a bowl, add some solid toppings, and give me a spoon? I'm ON BOARD. Given how on-trend açaí bowls and assorted juiced things are (and have been for decades on my personal well-worn hippie food circuit -- Grants Pass has a wheatgrass shot place for crying out loud), I'm surprised PDX isn't absolutely DRIPPING with juice'n'smoothie spots. One on every corner seems appropriate, TBH. But no. It simply isn't the case. There are, seemingly, tragically, more Starbucks per capita than there are smoothie places per capita. And the Starbuckses (how does one pluralize Starbucks?) open earlier and stay open longer. Not that I'm pro-Starbucks: Their coffee is trash and their food sucks. ANYWAY. What I'm trying to say is that we should really have more options when it comes to smoothies, smoothie bowls, and juice places. Now, do we have options? Yes. Yes we do! We have a meaningful handful of places! And Kure Superfoods understands the assignment: I used to frequent their spot in the Pearl back when I haunted those hallowed streets, and was stoked when they opened a location on my precious, beloved East Side. And if you're lucky enough to find yourself in the vicinity of a Kure Superfoods, check it out, I'm sure their biz is on-point in all their various new haunts (I hear tales of Lake O and other hoity toity burbs, but I wouldn't know. Sniff.). Their smoothie bowls are superb (someday I might sample their solid food, but I wouldn't count on it): I am partial to the Bowl of the Gods, an absolute confection of a bowl with just the right sheen of health: Hemp milk! Protein powder! The all-important açai! Fruits galore! I am slowly tweaking my order over time, dialing in just the right additions and subtractions until I achieve açaí nirvana. When I'm feeling fresh, it's a KLG shot for me, although I do rue the days when one could walk into somewhere that smelled funky and get a legit wheatgrass shot. Alas. In any case, although I miss their old kinda funky location across the street on Hawthorne, I do appreciate the new digs' addition of indoor AND outdoor tables n' chairs, and serviceable WiFi if you, like me, must cram in lunch while continuing to respond to a never-ending onslaught of emails about NONSENSE that you nevertheless must respond to in order to fund your smoothie bowl habit. read more

I ordered the Lush Life smoothie. It was easy to drink and pretty sweet for a green smoothie. Price: $9. I could see myself returning for another smoothie when I feel like splurging. Just curious where the employees go to the bathroom? The porta potty in the back is disturbing and it reeks of poop. If there's only a porta potty then where do employees wash their hands? Touching the same sink they wash produce in? Kure charges 20.00 for their meal in a cup smoothie with tip and they can't afford to get proper bathrooms for their employees? Correct me if I'm wrong, which I could be but I don't see any other bathroom when the back gate is open. I'm going to pass on the ecoli smoothie for now or unless someone explains what the hell goes on in that porta potty. 3.5/5 I know this is a chain that is present all throughout Portland, but this one is by far the best choice to go to because of the easy parking situation (easy residential parking nearby, you don't have to keep circling the blocks downtown trying to find parking at the other Kure locations - we all know the Portland struggle of circling over and over again and eventually giving up...) Came here today on a sunny Sunday afternoon, mid 70s weather, aka perfect acai bowl weather. Pros: - really great tasting bowl - I got the Sunnyside (it's the one that doesn't have peanut butter, I think there's only 2 bowls on the menu) - It comes in a regular size bowl, with strawberries, bananas, granola, etc. Very tasty, and it satisfied this craving I had for the past couple weeks with this sunny weather - Nice outdoor but shaded seating area, perfect for May/summer weather (there's a nice picnic table in the back of the small patio area that I really liked), enough chairs for people waiting for their smoothies to sit and chill. - location - again, difficulty parking is my biggest Portland pet peeve, which is why this location is literally the best (I literally went to 3 other locations this same day but the parking situation was horrendous, and the one on Taylor was closed!) - Good service - the food came out really fast, like 5 mins after we ordered. Cons: - kind of pricey. My bowl was $9.75, and it wasn't a huge bowl (I would say perfect size of mid-afternoon snack between lunch and dinner). I know that it's hard for businesses right now, but as a consumer I wish the price was like $8.50 at most, $8.00 if possible. Maybe I'll feel differently about this when I become a millionaire, but this pricing is rough for a struggling grad school student. - The acai was a little too watery for me, I kind of wish it was a little thicker. It did taste amazing, but it felt like I was eating fruit and granola that was sitting in acai soup. This sweet little bungalow of healthy goodness! Full five stars. First, props to the one man show working the whole thing efficiently the morning I came. He was taking orders and making all of the food and smoothies himself, and it truly was quick. We came here in the morning and I wanted something that seemed filling. I opted for the Green Eliminator and had no regrets whatsoever. I am always worried about juice being too sweet and this one wasn't at all. I don't feel like I can fully give Kure a review until I've had their juice or a smoothie, but they were the first place that came to mind when I was needing some oatmeal. There are 2 different kinds of oatmeal that they have. I got the Hansel which was had gogi berries, apples, cinnamon, bananas, Vega protein powder, chopped hazelnuts, and bobs red mill oats. I started my asking if the oats were gluten free. The girl said that they were made in a place that had gluten but that they didn't come in contact with gluten or something? I was so confused by the end (after asking straight up "sooo... Are they gluten free or not" twice and never getting a straight yes or no) that I ended up just saying screw it and got it anyway. I wish they would give a direct answer on this one. So then after getting my oatmeal, I counted 4 gogi berries. It looked kind of sad to be honest hahah. It got very redundant after a while and I had to stop and eat it later because it was a little much. Very heavy with the protein, and I think I'd opt for more fruit next time, so maybe I'll get the other option. Like I said, I want to go here for something other than the oatmeal, so I can't review it fully until then! read more

This place can be a hit or miss in my opinion. Some of their drinks taste very good with uniquely blended flavors. Never too sweet. Some of their drinks aren't that great and taste like grass. My friend who is vegetarian wasn't too pleased with her green beverage, and when I tried it there's no way i would ever order it. That being said if you pick out a good drink you'll be happy, but paying a somewhat high price for their drinks isn't a fun gamble. But hey, at least they're healthy. It's good to be back in Portland, even if it means having to park under that goop-dripping linden tree in front of my house. ;-) I've passed by Kure a multitude of times, always noticing a line. Today (my first visit to Kure), I ordered the Envy Blend smoothie - made with avocado, kale, coconut meat, milk yogurt, coconut water and agave nectar. Better than expected, I really liked its flavor. Great texture. Just the right amount of sweet too. I also did a shot of wheat grass. Kure serves the wheat shot in a little plastic cup with a wedge of orange, used to cleanse the palate afterwords. I don't know too much about wheatgrass, except that it is has reputed properties for cleansing the system, e.g. making the liver release toxins. Some people also claim wheat grass also gives them an energy boost. I didn't feel anything different after swilling my shot. JP is more into juices than smoothies and picked up a "PDX Farmacy", which consists of cucumber, celery, spinach and other ingredients, including a spicy dose of cayenne. He thought his juice was perfect (I thought it was well-made too), but I think I'll stick to the cooler and smoother smoothies. The young gal at the window was super nice and super organized. Want something that just tastes like the best juice box you'll ever have? Kure can do that. Want the green-est kale-est drink your body will ever have the joy of processing? Kure can make that happen. I had the sunshine something with extra ginger. It kicked my whole body in gear and was totally filling. I don't think I would necessarily recommend getting extra ginger- the last few sips were hard to down. The acai bowl = filling feast of goodness. Serving size is huge. Get one to split for breakfast or a dessert. Note there is not indoor seating here. However, bitchin' tunes are blasting and an outdoor heating pillar provides warmth. read more
