We enjoyed our dinner on the patio and the service was excellent. We will need to return soon to try a Japanese entree as we both had the shrimp fried rice (!) with sides of edamame and miso soup. The fried rice entree was very ample and we both left quite full.

I've already reviewed Kuro several times... So let me just say: get the Golden Shrimp. If I could eat a whole plate of Golden Shrimp, I would, but then I would probably be ill because it is so rich. I had a delightful piece of Saba (mackerel) nigiri and then I ordered the Kuro burger (burger at a Japanese restaurant - crazy?). My companions had a Salmon bento and a salmon select dish. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

Amazing!!! Amazing service and great tasting food. I was amazed at how fresh the sushi was. Their menu has a great variety of different entrees. We drove about an hour to come here and it was worth it. I will definitely be coming back.

Really enjoyed dinner at Kuro Bistro. Started with a glass of plum wine and it was the perfect balance of sweet and earthy. The sushi pizza was amazing. The half portion of hibachi teriyaki chicken was just right. The ambiance was warm and cozy great for a weeknight dinner.

Great, clean sushi restaurant with a nice seating area and lighting. The service was great and the sushi portions were plentiful. Highly recommend

What a great spot! This was the first time I have been there and it did not disappoint. We had the golden shrimp appetizer, gyoza and sashimi plate. Everything was delicious!!! Our service was great as well. Very fast and accurate. This place gets busy and I'm happy we booked reservations. It seemed to clear out after 9 pm, however. Parking is easy as they have a parking garage right near the restaurant. In the summer I've heard they have cute outdoor seating. Overall I loved this place and will be returning!

Best place for Asian food in Lake Forest. It's not like there's a whole lot of good choices to be honest. Kuro Bistro is a place specializing in sushi. Actually there's lots of Asian food on the menu, but that's the best stuff they have so get it. The prices are kind of high it seems but that's not surprising because this is a rich ass suburb and money is no thing. After getting off of the Metra train, we came here at lunch. It's the best time to come because of the lunch specials. These are a little cheaper and you can save a few bucks on some rolls and other things. Most rolls here are too expensive. The best one was the AAC Roll. It's $10, which was a lot for a small one. This has asparagus, avocado, and cucumber in case you didn't know that. Got us a couple rolls, with a drink and appetizer, and we saved a few bucks. The rolls were pretty small. It was made basic. These were finished in a few minutes. Good flavor. It's just the prices and portions that are the problem. The rolls aren't that much to eat but you still pay a lot whether it's a big roll, a regular one, or whatever.

It was very expensive and just OK. Plus, if you're sitting outside, you get the lovely train coming by every five minutes.

I'm catching up on my reviews and I am just drooling as I type this out. Kuro Bistro has my heart for best sushi. I travel all the way from downtown Chicago just to eat at Kuro bistro. I don't mind the drive since the food and environment keeps me coming back. I've been a fan of Kuro Bistro since they first open. I am a returning customer who can't get enough of their sushi. My favorite rolls are the crazy salmon and the fire tuna. I came in with my friends and nephew. We ordered a bunch of sushi and my nephew ordered the chicken katsu don. Overall, the prices are pretty similar to all the other sushi places I've been to. The biggest difference would be the quality of the sushi! It's the best!

As…read morefirst-timers, we were looking for somewhere new and special to celebrate, and after reading several great reviews, we decided to give Sophia Steak a try. We headed there for Happy Hour, which runs from 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM and is definitely on the short side! We actually thought we'd be the only "early birders," but the bar area filled up surprisingly fast, so clearly this happy hour is popular with the locals. Sophia offers a fantastic $10 Happy Hour menu featuring cocktails, beer, wine, and five appetizers. Between the two of us, we ordered four of the five appetizers offered, and honestly, every single one was a hit. The Potato Croquettes were incredibly light and fluffy, the Ahi Tuna Crisp was absolutely delicious, and the Nashville Chicken Bites packed great flavor. The Meatball Sliders were another standout -- flavorful and juicy, and actually held together instead of falling apart after the first bite! To make the evening even more special, the bartender heard we were celebrating our anniversary and surprised us by comping a dessert: the Sticky Toffee Bread Pudding. Absolutely delicious and the perfect sweet ending to our meal. Even better, our total bill came in under $100! I highly recommend @Sophia Steak's Happy Hour if you're looking for affordable yet classy dining in Lake Forest. Next time, we'll definitely be back to try dinner.

On this summer evening I was very disappointed to see all the windows and doors open to the dining area because it was so humid outside and so it was extremely humid on the inside as well. I chose to sit on the inside because I wanted a not because I wanted to feel the heat and humidity. Note that parking here is truly a challenge. You can valet for free or if you get here early enough as we had a 5 o'clock reservation we were able to find street parking and walked less than a block. The street parking also happened to be free, which was lucky. As you can imagine in Lake Forest, there is no residential street parking allowed Dinner itself was absolutely delicious!!! The food quality was delicious. Everything tasted incredible and just about everything got finished, but because we ordered too much food we are very happy to have some leftovers. We are also very lucky to be here on a Saturday night in order early enough to get the prime rib special because apparently they ran out at 6:30. I am definitely coming back here again whether it's a good occasion or not the food is fantastic!!! Our server, Noel was awesome!!!! The manager did actually forget to charge us for the bottle of wine which I did call out because I am an honest person and they added it to the bill. One disappointment of the evening is the fact that the desserts are covered in nuts and we have a nut allergy in our party. So we had to get a sundae, which was a little underwhelming as well as the Atlantic pie, which is basically a Keylime pie. The second disappointment was the side order of asparagus, which is awfully pricey and you only get six pieces you would assume that they would be generous with the truffle, but they're not. We did get a free birthday dessert, which was very nice. It was the ice cream sundae.

Family & Crab is conveniently located right off Grand Ave and has been beautifully renovated to a modern restaurant with a seafood theme. We visited right when the restaurant opened and the place was super clean. Since we were there to celebrate a birthday, we ordered one of the family platters consisting of crab legs, shrimp, sausage, corn and potatoes. For a party of six we had more than enough food. We easily could've had two more people with us for a platter this size. The sauce was delicious as well and ranges in spice level. I will say that the seasoning was quite heavy so it was a bit on the saltier side while I prefer a heavy garlic flavor, but overall nothing to complain about. The kitchen seemed to be very accommodating so if you just told them how you prefer your sauce and seasoning I'm sure it won't be an issue. We also ordered the fried oysters as an appetizer and a simple veggie fried rice to go with the boil. The fried oysters were perfectly crisp and came out hot. I will say that the breading is more flaky, kind of like a tempura. The oyster itself was not overcooked or chewy either. Service was wonderful and super helpful at explaining the menu and what was recommended. She even brought us a complimentary cheesecake slice for the birthday celebrant. Overall, this was a great experience and I highly recommend for anyone craving seafood boil in the area to save yourself the drive and come here!

Service was attentive and prompt. My husband and I shared the lobster bisque and that was a bit of a let down. I'm used to the lobster bisque from Texas de Brazil, which is flavorful and creamy. The one at Boston fish market was thicker and had more of a flat taste. There wasn't a deep seafood flavor in the soup but the small chunks of lobster were nice. We spent $120 pre tip for 2 entrees and 1 appetizer so definitely more on the expensive side but the quality of the entrees and the size portions will really blow you away. The price to value seemed very imbalanced and this is coming from someone who is quite accustomed to city prices. The menu is huge, IMO too big. It would be great if they trimmed it down to do fewer things flawlessly. This place is great for big groups, the room we were seated in is built for parties of 8+. We started out with the garlic bread on our table and ordered the appetizer platter. The platter was fine, but the addition of guac was odd and it wasn't very good. I ordered the lobster roll and my husband the mahi. They only serve the lobster roll hot, but I generally prefer cold. The bun was a pretzel roll, which I didn't love. They should put the butter on the side, so the whole thing felt dry. They served it with tartar sauce, which was an interesting choice. Husband was unimpressed with his mahi. Service started off strong and then fell off a cliff. Our server was attentive when we needed to order and then absent through pretty much the rest of the meal. We asked a busboy for more water and someone went to find our server to get our check. Basic things like ketchup for fries wasn't even considered. Maybe the Des Plaines location is better, this one didn't live up to the hype or price.
