OK, so I'm not a young guy anymore and I've got lots of wierd yucky things on my skin. It's embarassing, and I've been through half a dozen dermatologists over the years most of which seemed to be interested only in how much money they could extract from me or had the bedside manner of a dead fish. BTW, most of them had terrible front-office staff too. A few years ago I was desparate not to go back to the last one I saw and thought why not look on Yelp? Here I found Kurtis Opp. Yes, he's a PA (Physician's Assistant) -- not a MD. I've worked in hospitals and medical organizatons since about 1980 -- and let me tell you there's nothing wrong with a PA -- in fact one as specialized as Kurtis is a rare breed, and he wouldn't be doing this if he weren't passionate about his craft. I've never had an MD spend so much time with me, explain things so well, and generally instantly know what's going on like Kurtis does. And I get to call him Kurtis -- not "Dr. Opp". Can I add another star for that? Kurtis is great -- no-nonsense but compassionate, gives me helpful suggestions, and liberally uses that liquid nitrogen gun of his to "scrape the barnacles" as he says and makes me better. He even worked me in with a few hours notice once when I had a bad problem going on and he helped me realize that I was allergic to something that my new dry cleaner had used on my shirts. Duh! (I have since changed cleaners, but you can't take Kurtis away from me.) For those who give one star because of some dimwit who put them on hold to deal with the patient in front of them before they made an appointment -- really? Give me a great doc with a bad staff any day over an average doc with a stellar staff. And yeah, the front office staff in most doctor's offices are low skilled workers with similar pay (no offense). Give 'em a break --they have to deal with grumpy sick people all day! My front-office experience here has varied, but at worst it's only a minor annoyance. read more

Dr. Opp is a fantastic, pro-active and no nonsense dermatologist. He always informs me fully about any skin conditions, treats swiftly and effectively and has a great team working with him. He is extremely informed on updates in dermatological science and treatment. Interpersonally, Dr. Opp is calm and collected and a delight to work with--he moves quickly but not in a rushed way. Rather he is thoughtfully efficient. I'm grateful that I have consistently been able to schedule same-week appointments when needed and appreciate that the practice he works with very LGBTQ friendly and seem very well respected in the local community. read more

I have gone to Kurtis Opp for acne rosacea treatment and other skin issues once or twice a year for five years. He's always a good listener about my symptoms and my experiences with different medications, and not all doctors are willing to listen. He's very informative and always makes time to answer all my questions. He takes expense and preference into account when prescribing meds, and warned me off of overusing steroid cream when I wasn't aware of the side effects. Finally, his recommendations for daily face wash and moisturizer and night cream turned me on to the best products I've ever used and have my complexion the clearest and healthiest it's ever been. I would recommend Kurtis Opp to anyone for any skin issue. A visit is always a good experience, and I leave knowing more about my skin than I did when I came in. read more

I struggled with acne all my life and most recently as an adult. I saw Dr. Kurtis and the first thing he suggested was that my acne was possibly caused by long term sun damage (even though I am fair skinned). I followed his suggestions, which was an otc cleanser, sunscreen everyday and simple, yet routine acne treatment. After about 4 months, I have the best looking skin I have had in a very long time. I thought Dr. Kurtis was very easy to communicate with and he even gave me advice on what chemicals to watch out for in foundation make-up (when I decide to wear it now!) and sunscreen. I had 4 visits with Kurtis within a one month and a half period. Each time I came back I had to review everything that had been done already with Kurtis and explain again why I was there. He never checked his records prior to entering the room to review my history. In addition, I had labwork done which he forgot about and continued to tell me it wasn't done until I had to clearly explain to him that it had been over a month and the results would be there. He finally looked that same visit and found them. Kurtis also performed surgery to remove a cyst from my neck and a year later I stil have a scar. I have been to several other dermatologists to have similar cysts removed and have never had any remaining scars until now. He told me when he tooked the stitches out that it would heal in a few weeks. read more

Kurtis was an excellent find for me. He's well educated, I checked credentials, and just talking with him proves it. He's up to date on changes in his field and many others. His demeanor and professionalism are exactly as they should be. He's always pleasant, doesn't keep me waiting and either has or finds the answers to my questions while I'm there. Kurtis Opp performed a miracle for me - laser treatment of my face and neck. In my annual skin check with Kurtis two years ago, I told him I noticed I was aging quickly and needed help. He recommended laser treatment. I hesitated because I am sensitive and was probably afraid. How I wish I had done it two years ago! One treatment (one hour) has produced smooth, almost flawless skin and eliminated droopiness. I followed his instructions exactly. Although I decided to stay out of circulation for 10 days, that is not necessary. Kurtis has been absolutely wonderful over the years. Who is writing these reviews? I do not want to be mean, BUT Kurtis lacks basic people skills. He wasn't friendly and our exchange was awkward at best--and this is not something I usually experience. I can't imagine he gets many return visits. That aside, the office and examination room were more than a little rough around the edges. The male receptionist and another staff member sat at the front desk chatting loudly while looking at personal photos on the computer. The same receptionist was on a personal call on his wireless headset while he guided me from the waiting room to the examination room, not once talking to me, only gesturing where to sit, etc. After leaving me in the room, I could hear him clearly through the door, on the phone with a friend, chatting about his family. I sat in there for about 25 minutes before Kurtis showed up. No apology, just a quick awkward visit. I thought I was being punked. read more
