Our large group of 20 enjoyed pre dinner cocktails on the patio and the staff was on top of refill request. Dinner last night was just ok. The staff was wonderful and I felt like I was home surrounded by my aunts and grandmas. Sweet ladies run this business. The food was mixed for us. We loved the huge pretzel and the salad. The drink selection was also quite good. But the entrees and desserts were not enjoyable. My pork and mashed potatoes were VERY salty. The worst part was the powder mashed potatoes. Who serves that at restaurants? I suggest this restaurant but only for appetizers and drinks. read more

Went there for dinner during the July 4th weekend. Great food and it is a lot of food for the price...! Dining environment and service are nice. We three people ordered pork shank, sausage and pork players, black forest and pretzels for appetizers, all taste great but we end up with almost half food left over. And we got a free beer by checking in via Yelp. The reason for 4 stars not full 5 stars is that it is not baby/kids friendly. No diaper change stations, only ONE high chair the entire store (we have two infants with us) which causes a problem. read more

Finally got a chance to eat here after recommendations from coworkers and friends. Was not disappointed! Service was friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was laid back, and the holiday decorations were fun. Kurt's has a very cozy old world vibe, that I very much enjoyed. Now to the food: first, the pretzel was HUGE. I can not overstate how enormous and wonderful this pretzel was. The dipping sauces were great, but I would have loved some beer cheese or whole grain mustard. The pretzel itself was great, perfectly browned on the outside, and perfectly cooked inside. After the pretzel, I had their caprese, which was on special (not on the normal menu), and my SO had their caesar. I was very surprised by the caprese (it is a german restaurant, after all, but I just can't resist caprese). It was perfect! Delicious tomato, tasty mozzarella, and the balsamic drizzle was amazing (and not skimped on). Finally, for dinner, I had the special which was a variety of schnitzel with ham and cheese (schnitzel cordon bleu, anyone?). The cutlet was perfectly breaded and crispy, the spaetzle underneath was tasty, and the ham and cheese was a decadent topping. There was also a delicious brown gravy on the side, which added an entirely different level of tasty to this dish. I was so stuffed from the pretzel and caprese that I could not eat more than a few bites of this dish, but it made great leftovers the next morning! The other note I would like to make is the beer. I love a good beer, and the Krombacher Double Bock on tap was most excellent! Looking forward to a return trip to sample more of their menu: dinner and beer. read more

Last Friday, August 1st, was my first visit to Kurt's, hopefully, it will not be my last. I need to start by explaining that I moved here from Milwaukee about 5 years ago, and I was raised on German restaurants and was on the board for Germanfest in Milwaukee. I am VERY picky about my German food, and not having a good German restaurant, German bakeries, and the good sausages is the only thing I miss about Wisconsin. I debated between the saurbraten and the wiener schnitzel and went with the saurbraten, while my dining partner ordered the schnitzel. The saurbraten was tough, not tender at all, the gravy had a good flavor, but I have had better for sure. The spaetzel tasted like it had been being kept warm too long in a steam table (we had reservations for 8PM, am guessing it is more geared to early dining). The red cabbage was excellent. My friends wiener schnitzel was also excellent, some of the best I have ever had. We ordered the sausage board and the cheese board for appetizers which were both nicely presented and a good variety. (The accompanying red grape garnish boasted old grapes....which ruined the presentation.) My friend ordered the Black Forest Cake for desert, and it was excellent, cake was moist, and the whipped cream was whipped with egg to make a very nice consistency. My very favorite desert is creme brule and when I saw it on the menu, had to order it, don't! It was made ahead and kept refrigerated, they did not finish it with the burnt sugar just before presentation, it was ice cold., The flan on the inside was runny and not the consistency of a creme brule. Oh, the little loaves of bread with the special butter (with scallions in it) were fantastic. I had 2 glasses of a Riesling the waitress recommended, it was very good ($9 a glass). Dinner for the two of us with what I mentioned came to $130 with tip. (My partner had only iced tea to drink.) So a little on the pricey side. With all the RAVE reviews, I guess I was expecting more. But, I will go again, for sure. read more

There are few fine dining venues like Kurt's that deliver both a friendly intimate atmosphere and an excellent menu executed to near perfection. My wife and I celebrated Valentines Day at Kurt's. We enjoyed the special set menu. First, service was top notch. Live jazz music was also playing. Our appetizer platter featured a stuffed quail which was quite tasty and arranged for sharing. Intermezzo was served: a tart raspberry sorbet sitting in an Italian citrus concoction. Very refreshing! Our entree was rack of lamb and German veal cutlet topped with Black Forest ham and German cheese. Very flavorful and paired with a German Pinot noir. After dinner dessert platter of chocolate covered strawberries, cheesecake, and other fine confections was presented. We chatted with Kurt on the way out. An excellent choice! I organize a weekly dinner group of 10-15 guys. We selected this place randomly based on our interest and other Yelp reviews. I'm very pleased to say that it was worth it. The atmosphere was cozy. Our server was friendly, and efficient. She was knowledgeable about the menu and offered lots of great suggestions. I will say that the Bread Pudding was my personal favorite. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal selections. Definitely looking forward to a return visit. read more

I had my first dining experience at Kurt's Bistro last weekend and was thoroughly impressed! My husband and I went there on a whim and found it quite packed on a Saturday night. Though we didn't have a reservation, and a table was out of the question, we were able to sit at the bar right away and dine there. The gentleman bar tending was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu, both food and beverage. He encouraged me to taste several different wines, before deciding on one. I always welcome this kind of hospitality at a restaurant. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, dimly light without being too dark, and just the right amount of German/European kitsch. The food was fantastic! Whenever we go to a new restaurant, and small plates are available on the menu, we tend to order many of them. It's the perfect way to get a sense of the cuisine offered, without having to settle on one menu item. We ordered, -Mussels in a cream riesling sauce (my favorite item we had!) -Burgundy snails served with Swiss and whipped potatoes, which were saucy, ever so slightly funky, tender and delicious, just how I like them. -Smoked trout plate, that came with a creamy dill cucumber salad -Bacon and mushroom spaetzle, think German style mac and cheese. I would like to tell you how this dish was, but could barely get a taste due to my husband inhaling it. So I'm guessing it was good. My mother-in-law is coming to town this weekend, and because she is a good witch and not a bad witch, it is a distinct possibility that we end up treating her to a Kurt's Bistro dinner her first night in town. I am a fan of the beer selection, and moreover the huge beer mugs! I met a part of four hear for a casual dinner and everyone really seemed to enjoy the atmosphere of the restaurant. We loved the decorations, particularly the vintage European racing memorabilia. The food is not fancy, and so it is on the pricier side. However, if you want a real german, rustic food experience that does not lack finesse, this is the place. Their sauerkraut and sausage was absolutely delicious. Best German food I've had in a long time. Great ambience and service. Managed by a husband and wife team who are German and Swiss respectively. Couldn't save room for any dessert or small plates. Went right for the Sauerbraten. Excellent German and Dutch bier selection. Will be back for sure! Highly recommended for a romantic evening as a couple or small group. Heck, even a German car club event would be a great venue if the group were 12 or less. Needs more parking for a car show. Will definitely enjoy the live music on Saturdays when the weather permits. Saturday night the got in before the rush, 630ish. All tables already full in the dining room, so opted for a table in the bar area. Service spot o with both bartenders taking care of us. Ordered the split pea soup, very nice, different than the ordinary green thick stuff. This tasted like fresh peas and color wasn't that artificial green. Really nice flavor with bits of bacon or ham in it. Had the traditional sourbraten. Nice flavor and the red cabbage was excellent. All in all very nice and will come back to try other German foods. read more

A great german restaurant in Atlanta Metro Area. This cozy restaurant is a perfect place for a date night. Service was extremely helpful, as we ordered a cheese fondue that insisted in catch fire over the pan (the fire should be only under the pan). They promptly changed the fondue pan 2 times until the desired flame was achieved. The fondue itself was very good. A bit alcoholic tough (looks like the wine didn't evaporate properly), but still very good. It served with bread, pretzel and fruits. German beer on tap with a great selection. The creme brûlée was only ok. No "glass" effect on top from caramelized sugar and the custard consistency was too runny. On the other hand, espresso was very good. Will return for sure. read more

The food at this place is very good, and the portions are big. Service is good with a very attentive staff. My only complaint is that there's a $1.50 charge for a barely 2-sip sample beer. My husband wanted to order the "boot" that holds about 2 liters of beer that costs almost $45 (you get to keep the boot because you have to pay for it). I explained to the very nice waitress that we wanted a sample of the beer before we ordered a whole boot of it. Makes sense, right? The waitress says she understands and then brought us the sample. She never said anything about the $1.50. I only found out when the bill came. It's a very small charge, but it's just that I was not advised of it beforehand. read more

On our anniversary we made the trip up and really enjoyed the food. The Spaetzle is an old favorite and it didn't disappoint. I also had a bowl of the goulash which was excellent. What a surprise but not really if you look at the great reviews on Yelp. Everything is prepared fresh and made for you to enjoy. Portions are large and full of flavor. The smoke porkchop along with bratwurst and braunwurst was fantastic. The home made sauerkraut and German potato salad was perfect. My taste buds were jumping with joy!! Sitting on the patio enjoying a cold German Beer (and they have plenty) listening to pretty decent Live music eating really good food does not get any better. This is a perfect laid back spot for a date or even better double date and triple date to sit outside on the patio for Live music on Wed- Fri- Saturday nights. I cant wait to go back but don't know if I can order anything other than the pork plate I had since it was so good. I had to go home and slap mamma to get the taste out of my mouth, hell my mouth is watering now thinking about it. Kurts deserves all the great reviews he gets. Truthfully an authentic experience from Germany bought over for all to try here in the States. Everytime my sister and I are up in the area we make it a point to stop by and remember the time when we lived in Germany from the fantastic food that they prepare. Our only complaint is that they don't have the simple plain Germany cheese cake for dessert. However, you can find almost everything else there that you can think of. Great place to go on a first date or anniversary or just hang out the atmosphere is amazing for all occasions. As I write this am thinking when will we up in the are again to get some Jagersnitzle. Kurt's was one of the most authentic southern German food that I've tasted in Atlanta. We had the Black Forest Spätzle- it was a little too rich for me but the flavor was to the point and it reminded me of the ones I had in Germany. The vegetarian pasta was also very well made. The potato pancake was amazing and the imported fruit beer was awesome too. To top it off, the fried banana dessert was the bomb. Mr Kurt is actually the one who makes it for you in front of your table, and it was definitely an experience! Everything melts in your mouth like pure goodness :) read more

Delicious! The spaetzle (which resembles spaghetti) with cheese and cream with bacon is awesome! The mussels weren't great but the Black Forest cake made up for where they were lacking. The hubby had scalloped pork which he loved. Our server, Hannah was delightful and very well informed. Went here last night. It was my second time there. They never disappoint. The ambiance is fun, the service was great and the food was exceptional. First off, we showed up with more people that I had made a reservation for. The owner was super nice and accommodated all of us in our party without hesitation. I ordered the pork shank for an entree and it was definitely a huge portion. The flavor was nothing like I ever had before. The skin was super crispy, almost like pork rinds. I love the atmosphere of this place. We had a wonderful and romantic meal without it being overly fancy. The setting is very intimate and inviting without it feeling stuffy. We started off with the swiss fondue tray. I loved the combination of green apples with the fondue. The pretzel bread was also delicious. Then we ordered potato cakes. These were not my favorite because they tasted like they were cooked with bacon grease; which I don't like personally. Next we shared the trout plate, and it was my favorite dish of the night. The trout is smoked and it just had the most amazing flavor! Lastly we ordered two desserts, the cream brûlée and apple strudel. The apple strudel was very thick and hardy. I loved the cream brûlée because it was light and not too sweet and was a great end to the meal. The servers were very friendly and really know how to pace a meal. I had the pleasure of dining here and it was amazing. The only dish I would skip would be the charcuterie a plate. It was just a plate of deli meats. As for the Bavarian pretzel, it was hot and fresh. I had the Scheabian Plate as my main course. The bratwurst and bauernwurst sausage were good, but nothing extraordinary. The smoked pork chop was amazing! Very tender, juicy, and full of flavor. And I can't say enough about the sauerkraut and German potato salad were both outstanding. My wife and I wanted to try something different other than those same old chain places to eat on a Friday night, we had been told of Kurt's Bistro and decided to give it a try. Of course as a spur of a moment decision we did not have a reservation and were sent to grab a high top table in the bar area, which actually was not that bad since I got to glance at ESPN now and then on their big screen, shhh, don't let my wife know I was doing that. (this is not a sports bar place). For a starter, we shared the potato pancakes - three come with an order, to be honest they were a little tasteless, they need some seasoning, that's when I noticed none of the bar tables, had salt and pepper shakers on them. For my main I had the Smoked Pork Chop, it was as good as everyone talks about and my wife had the Wienerschnitzel. She was disappointed in it, she kept saying it was to dry.
