Brandon made the entire process smooth and convenient. I just got back from the range after testing the clubs, and his work is absolutely top-notch. He even installed new MCC Align grips and BB&F ferrules--which are tricky to get aligned just right--but everything came out perfectly. Bowling is in my blood. Growing up in Florida, there are only really three things you can do: Watch…read morea movie, go to Chili's or Bowl. We would play so much back at home, it became economical to buy my own shoes and bowling ball (and also clearly great props for picking up the ladies...) It is not normally something worth doing in NY, due to high prices and low availability, but when I first heard of Better Off Bowling (BOB), I got really excited. In total, there are 40+ teams sized between 6-10 people. The league is pegged as recreational, though don't be amazed if you see players scoring 180+. Each week (total of 6) you are paired against another team, using your team's top 4 scores to battle it out. At the end of the season, each team is put against a team of similar record in the playoffs, but there isn't really like a single-elimination tournament at the end to crown an overall champion. The current season is finishing up, but there will be a new season starting at the end of Feb with a Sunday league and possibly a Wednesday league as well. (I'll update this post once more information comes out) Regardless, it is another opportunity to do something unique in a city full of new and random activities, spending time with friends and drinking (half price) beer. There is also a great post-game bar with loads of flip cup and beer pong a happening. So far, the people I have met during competition and afterwards have been awesome and ready to party (especially "Table Man", if any of you are lucky enough to meet him). Don't let lack of bowling skill stop you from having some fun a normally boring Sunday afternoon. I highly recommend getting a group of friends together and joining up. After all, dodge ball was only cool when the movie came out, so you should pick a different sport anyways.

Today I made arrangements with my teammates to go to the batting cages. Only four of us were available for practice and going to a field would have been kind of useless. So I went on Yelp and began to look up nearby locations and this is the first place that popped up. Took a moment to look at their rates and was pretty impressed with what I found. Great place to keep in mind if I ever have a kid because the staff is full of professionals with prior baseball and softball experience. Early this morning i made a reservation and I took a deal today which was $50 for one hour. With the $50, you get one lane and can have up to six people with you. Once inside I went to the register in the front. Payment was easy and the man helping us was extremely nice. Everything was all set up for us when we arrived. The guy at the register was more than happy to also adjust the machine to our needs whenever we needed it. I liked this as opposed to a regular batting cage because you have the ability to adjust the pitch. In total, there are four lanes inside the facility. For an hour the four of us were able to take more than enough swings (it wound up being only $12 a person). I was kind of disappointed we didn't bring gloves because we could have even thrown around a little bit! Next time! The one thing I would like to point out is that facility is not for individual use while batting. You need someone with you to feed the pitches to you. All and all, I consider this place a homerun! I will be more than happy to return in the future!

As a person who has never owned a ball before, you can imagine how confusing it is especially in NYC of all places. He recommended Dino to drill it to my hand, so we took a trip up to his shop. Dino fitted my hand to my ball based on how I've been bowling with the house balls at my local alley. He took an hour to drill it and when I say this thing is perfect, it's perfect. I've never had an easier time hitting the pocket and having comfort when I throw. He even recommended where I shift over based on how I roll and he was right. The friend of my friend had some last minute scheduling problems, and they accommodated us very promptly. Keep in mind that this was still two days in advance. Both of the times that I went the instructors were very helpful and informative. There were lots of moments to chuckle at little jokes they made to lighten the mood and help people relax. They had games at the end of each training. As we shot the trainers assessed our performance only to help make slight adjustments that always made improvements.

If it's your first time, you get to do a super-fun introductory class (that's accessible to everyone of all ages and levels of athleticism - including "basically none") that teaches you the basics while also keeping it really entertaining with mini-competitions and such. Definitely a great group activity to try out with friends / family. After doing the intro lesson, you're free to sign up any time afterwards for your own private lane to practice in for 1-2 hours or so (bumping you up from a 5-yard distance from your target to a 10-yard one) - and the staff will keep checking in on you and giving you pointers and suggestions to improve your game. Speaking of which, they're all super friendly and knowledgeable - Nas, Ace, Simon and the rest, all great guys with lots of patience and sunny dispositions. It's roughly $35 for 1 hour of use of the space and to rent out a bow and some arrows (and the extra coaching is free) - a very reasonable deal in NYC. My wife and I have been coming back at least twice a month since the Winter and we've had a blast every visit. Super fun to watch yourself progress and get more and more accurate too. And as an added bonus, it's smack dab in the middle of Chinatown - tons of great spots to eat at around here, after an hour of archery. Would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting or living here.
