I live close to Fremont, and this used to be my favorite Thai restaurant. I have been a frequent customer for the last five years. Today, I went with a friend to eat there, and most of the tables outside were empty. We sat down, and a rude employee told us to move to a different table in rude mood. The only options she gave us were two tables that were directly in the sun. It was 4 p.m. and the restaurant was nearly empty. I politely asked if it would be okay for us to sit under the shade, but she was rude and kicking us out and told us to go to a different restaurant. I will never go back here I feel the times I have gone with my white husband the treatment was different but this time I went with one of my Latina friend like me they treated me in a rude way. This is my favorite Thai place in Seattle now. I have came here twice so far and plan to come many more times. It's a small little place in Fremont with the kitchen right next to the dining area. It's pretty quiet during the day, but fills up around nighttime. Parking is easy to find around the area. The experience here is very authentic, and their prices are amazing. Ordering the tom kha soup is a must! It is so delicious and flavorful. A perfect way to start your meal. (I would recommend asking for either no or less mushrooms because they are huge, but I also don't like mushrooms). The curries here are also really good. I would say you can't really go wrong with most orders here, but the curries have stood out as a crowd favorite. Delicious and affordably prices Thai food with great portions! *vegan review* My husband and I have been coming here for years and it's one of our favorite Thai places in Seattle. Kwanjai Thai feels like your friendly neighborhood Thai restaurant; it's usually pretty busy for dinner and you'll see a lot of local regulars and people picking up to-go orders. But even when they're busy, food still comes out quick, fresh, and delicious. The owners and staff are no-nonsense, and if you are respectful and kind, they are also kind and generous in return (and treat regulars like family!) I've seen entitled customers come in and act extremely rude to the staff, so any reviews complaining about the service are just people who received the same thing that they were dishing out. My favorite dish on the menu is the Summer Fire (spicy!), husband's favorite is Pad Kee Mao. The curries and fried rice dishes are also delicious, I don't think I've had anything less than amazing. Most dishes allow you to choose your protein and they also have no problem making dishes without fish sauce/oyster sauce/eggs upon request, great for vegetarians and vegans. Portions are also generous for a very reasonable price, cheaper and much better quality/value than most other nearby Thai restaurants IMO, which is why we started coming here as broke college students. Kwanjai Po is a no frills Thai restaurant in Ballard. Food came out quick and service in general was fast. The Pad Se Ew with tofu was pretty standard - good sauce, not too oily, soft noodles. The tofu had a good grilled flavor. The Tom Kha was the star of the meal. A little sweet, a little sour, a little spicy. You could taste the coconut milk, galangal, and lime leaf in the broth. I stoped in for dinner on a Friday around 6:30pm when it was beer busy. Luckily, I still got a table for 1. I got the fresh rolls ($7.95 plus tax) and the lab neh with tofu ($12.95 plus tax) -- both vegan. The rolls came out in around 10 mins, sliced up in bite sizes pieces, and served with a sauce that looked like half peanut sauce and half chili oil. Good but honestly nothing special. The rolls are missing some oomph to raise it to delectable territory. 3/5 The lab neh came out soon after and was kind of tangy. There was plenty of wide rice noodles, but they lacked that soft termite one hopes for with this dish. The gravy was nice and amped up nicely with spiciness but it was awkwardly tangy and missing depth. Good but far from a top tier lab neh. 3/5 All in all, decent Thai spot in Fremont but, at least based on what I've had, this was solid by underwhelming. read more

Really wanted Thai tonight and there are so many within a few blocks. We happened to street park almost right next to this one and it has 4 star reviews and a suuuuuper cute little house so this is the place to try tonight! There were people sitting at a table outside and we saw a Thai grandma working on separating chilli inside and it feels right! They close at 8pm (covid hours) on Friday so we could only get take out. We ordered: 1. sweet sour tofu - highly recommend! A lot of fresh vegetables and the sauce was just perfect. 2. Green curry with pork - highly recommend but probably try a different meat. Pork wasn't so good but sauce was so perfect. 3. Pad kee mao- it is not bad but not too impressive. I wouldn't order this again just cuz sweet sour and curry are so much better. It's actually asian spicy. 1-4 stars we got 3 for all dishes. It's good but maybe a bit more spicy than what I wanted so I will go 2 star next time. You know how usually places do 1-5 stars and even if you do a 4 star it is just not spicy at all? Not the case here. They are serious with the spices here. Super find! This place has little ambiance but makes up for it with tasty food. The service is good and the owner takes excellent care of customers. It has a good beer selection good because the spicy level is real Thai hot. We had the fresh spring rolls with tofu which were really lovely and came with a nice sauce. The Massimo on curry was tasty with potatoes and peanuts, just the way I like it. The stirfry vegetables were done with just the right amount of Christmas and the whole dish was very fresh. Awesome little Thai spot in Fremont across from the Roxy and the backdoor and next to a "massage parlor." The portions at this place are huge! Expect at least a couple of meals from most of the dishes. The shrimp pad Thai was fresh! The noodles were not oily or dry, and the shredded cabbage and carrots gave the dish an added fresh crunch. The crab fried rice was probably in my top 5 fried rices I've ever eaten, and I've had a LOT of fried rice. The little crab chunks were fresh, and the rice also had fresh tomatoes, peppers, onions, and tiny broccoli. We ordered the fried dumplings (10 come in an order), and the filling was a juicy pork filling seasoned perfectly. Overall, it was a good dining experience. Pretty awful all around. Ordered Pad See Ew with chicken and some fresh rolls. The noodles were soggy and seemed old. They were stuck together like they'd been pre-made then refrigerated foe a few days. The fresh rolls were fine, I guess. The wait staff was sitting with customers drinking Courvosier and being obnoxious. The cook came out with her cell phone and lasted some awful music over her phone speakers and complained about the audio quality for about two minutes before going back to making slop. The sweet and sour sauce that it came with could have been better. Order it with rice to make it a mini meal :) I didn't care too much for the fresh rolls. That was very bland but I guess that's why it comes with a dipping sauce. The tofu pod, which is fried tofu, has no flavor but that's normal! That's why you should dip it in the peanut sauce. I am giving 3.5 stars, to be clear. We came here after visiting the indoor sun shoppe cuz plant shopping makes us hungry. This is a classic hole in the wall joint so don't be thinking you are going to get a nice and cute little atmosphere. It is not. But I like HITW places so I'm cool. And then I did not care for my fried tofu app. The "sweet and sour" sauce was weird and looked like two different sauces poorly stirred together. The woman running the restaurant is incredibly rude. I didn't finish my meal and asked for it to go, for some reason this bothered her. I asked my waiter for some rice to go and she responded to the request yelling across the restaurant that she would bring it. We waited for 15 minutes for the rice then when I asked about it, she said $2 more to go when we already paid for rice with each of our meals(charged separately). Why make us wait and yell across the restaurant that you were bringing it then give attitude after when I ask about it? Overall her demeanor was unpleasant, however the original waiter was great. After Tup Tim Thai closed I felt lost, until I found Kwanjai Thai. The ower Kwanjai was a chef at Tup Tim Thai. They don't do any of the delivery services, claim any online profiles...just make amazing Thai. I've been a total convert since I found it! I order the fresh rolls for appetizers for events (they are cut like sushi vs. trees) which is great for sharing. The location is not convenient, but there's parking across the street by the Ballroom. I've only had takeout. I highly recommend it. read more

I've been to every Thai restaurant in Fremont and this one is the tastiest. Located in an old house, Kwanjai really makes you feel like you're in Thailand. The food is fantastic and affordable. The lunch special, where you choose a dish and get pad thai and a spring roll, is an incredible deal that can easily be two meals.
