I Show up to his shop and was greated by Alan after our phone convo , earlier that day . I jump out of the car and he quickly made me feel like he had my best interest in mind and that he was working for me , because he told me and looked me in the eye (whatever that's worth these days , but it was an honest look of integrity ) idk , but , I've read the comments , and the replied messages and his responses , seemed respectably professional , responding and trying to resolve issues with customers directly through yelp and asking them to call him and bring their car back and look over the car once again , let's face it old cars need a lot of services that may or may not have been done , cause a lot of cars these days can exceed the recommended maintainability expectations of the manufacturer , cars won't last forever ever without maintaining it duh , So let's educate ourselves and listen and ask questions , so we understand better about the suggestions that's explained to us about the severity of the car , right ? so we can build the relationship between the car , the customer , and the guy that's going to keep your car running , so to speak , anyhow I've belabored my point enough ..., So I introduce my wife , my daughter , and I to Alan , and I see the mustang owner , I needed a used car inspection , the mustang owner wanted to sell the 85 thousand mile car , and I need to know if it's in good shape , so he puts the car up on the lift and we are going over the car for a good 45min.to an hour , he find all the minor stuff of corse , but all the major stuff looked and felt strong , control arms needed adjustment or replacement , and the body had some age to it , but it was clean for a 14 year old car , and as far as I could see , it look pretty awesome , but I need a " real professional " and Alan is far and away is all that !!! Shit they take apart and rebuild transmissions , (transmission surgery ..and possibly more complicated..? ) so now I'm the owner of a 06 mustang gt , that is so official would recommend this shop in a heartbeat !!!!!!!! read more

My week long journey to find the right person to fix my girlfriend's Infiniti G35's transmission finally ended here. Thank God we found Alan and his shop Kwik Shift. Short version of the story: We brought the car here on a Friday morning, it was completely fixed by Friday evening for a fraction of the cost other places were quoting, because Alan was willing to solder a broken wire in the transmission valve body rather than replace entire thing. When we first met Alan that morning he showed us an old valve body and basically walked us through what exactly he was going to do and how to do it. This immediately gave us confidence that he knew what he was doing. He confirmed that when the car was fixed that same day. He is now my go to mechanic. Great service, great diagnostics, friendly guy, explains things in detail, honest man, backs his work up with a 90 day guarantee, everything you need in a mechanic. But if you are on the fence about coming here, please read the long version of the story, Alan helped us out SO MUCH. Can't thank him enough. Here's the long winded story that shows that Alan and his crew at Kwik Shift are amazing: It was the Saturday before Easter 2017 and that's when the check engine light on the g35 came on. Me being semi-savvy with car related issues, I pulled the code for the check engine light to see what was going on: p1757. I immediately googled the code to find that it was a "Front Brake Solenoid" issue and I would have to bring it in for professional repair. I also found when the car throws this code, it usually means that a wire has cracked inside the valve body in the transmission. Apparently this is a pretty common issue with Infiniti G35s. A new valve body costs around $2000 to replace. Crap. When Monday finally rolled around, I made the WRONG choice by taking it to the closest shop to my house in Livermore. We get a call from them saying it was the Front Brake Solenoid and it needed to be replaced. Fine, maybe it wasn't what I had thought and researched, I mean this other place has to know what it's doing better than I do, they work on transmissions all day, RIGHT? WRONG. That didn't work. Day 2 at the other place consisted of them dinking around trying to replace "wiring harnesses" and other random things, basically we were just being given the run around at this point. They were misdiagnosing this transmission for FOUR DAYS! Finally on day 4 of the car being at the original shop rolls around and my girlfriend calls and checks in on the car. They told her they just now ordered the wiring harness they had discussed several days ago and it wouldn't be in until Friday. They said if the wiring harness didn't work, the transmission would have to be rebuilt completely with a price tag in the $4000s. This is when I got involved, I was extremely angry at this point. I knew what they were telling her wasn't true, I felt like they were trying to take advantage of her. She started making phone calls to confirm our suspicions. First she called Nissan, they couldn't help. She then called Rick's Performance in Pleasanton, but he doesn't do transmissions but he knows a guy, Alan at Kwik Shift who is down the street. Best referral ever. We start telling Alan about our whole ordeal with the other shop. She gave him the check engine light code p1757, Alan knows exactly what it is and how to fix it. Its a cracked wire in the valve body and you just need to solder it back together. Just as I had originally thought. He told us to tell the guy just to solder it back together. He didn't want to steal the other guy's business. Alan is a good guy. So I called the other place back and told them to solder it, they basically tell me they couldn't because the wire is encased in plastic and fluid. At this point I am so angry after 4 days of incorrect diagnostics at the other place, I basically just drive over there and take the car back. After getting the car back I immediately drove it to Alan's shop and met him. What a great guy. He explained in detail what the work entailed and exactly how to fix it. He even brought out an old valve body from a Nissan transmission and showed it to me and how it worked. He even explained how you have to take the plastic off to see the circuitry. He had already told us over the phone on Thursday that if we got the car to him on Friday, he probably wouldn't be able to work on it until Monday because he was so busy. We were totally fine with that, at least Alan and his crew know what they are doing. We got the car to him Friday morning. He finished the job on Friday evening. He soldered the valve body wiring and charged us a fraction of what it would have cost to replace the entire thing. He finished the job in less than a business day! A mechanic that actually fixes broken parts rather than just replacing them! What a shop: Amazing customer service, great car service, amazing attitude, willing to go the extra mile. Allan runs a great shop. I priced a few different places, and he was patient, and gave me great information about rebuilding vs. replacing, and the price was good, not the lowest, but definitely not the highest. He fixed my classic Mustang in a few short days, and it was 30 minutes less work than the original estimate, so he charged me less, which is always a sign of good service. Me and my friend had both our transmission here replaced and it was a disaster. Both our vehicle lasted exactly 12 months before failure. Although manufacture warranty is 3 years unlimited mileage. If you bring him someone else manufacture refurbished with 3 years warranty be careful, he only likes to rebuilding himself because is more money for him. I had some issues with the check engine light and the O/D overdrive light blinking on the column shift lever on my 2003 Ford F-250 super crew cab 4x4 and the vehicle wouldn't move when I put it in drive but reverse was fine. I called and spoke with Alan after I tried to troubleshoot by checking the codes with my scanner that had 10 DTC's. After I told Alan the first code he looked it up and told me to check fuse 23 and see if it was blown. I checked and sure enough it was so I changed it. Still the same issues so I brought it to him to check it out as he didn't think I needed the transmission replaced but I was able to drive it if I started out in 1 and not D so got it down to Alan and the fuse 23 had blown again. We replaced fuse 23 and checked some of the 02 sensor wires and the O/D light was no longer blinking and we took for a test drive and it took off fine from D so I am very thankful for all of Alan's help on this issue. I was in the midst of moving out of town when I realized that the clutch on my 94 Toyota pickup was in such bad shape I could barely make it up small hills. Worse, I had all my belongings in the back and was desperate to get the job done quickly. Kwik Shift had an open lift and looked at my truck immediately. After listening to my concerns, Alan started working on the clutch himself as soon as I arrived. I was chasing some weird transmission issues on my second gen Cummins for a few weeks before deciding to bring my truck to Alan. My friend suggested Kwik Shift after getting a trans replacement on his 98 GMC Sierra. After I installed a new transmission on my truck i was limited to only around 15mph. A few days trying to diagnose the issue for a week or so and with no luck I dropped it off at Alans shop on a monday. He quickly diagnosed it as a faulty transfer case. By Friday the job was done and it now drives better and shifts smoother than it ever had! Not only did he call me with updates when he promised, complete the job when promised, and even give me great discounts, he also stayed late to wait for me to get off work so I could pick the truck up. Unrelated to Alans work, my trans pan was leaking a small amount of fluid prior to bringing it in. After getting my truck back, I noticed the leak was still there. I called Alan about the issue, and he called me back soon after. He even told me to bring it back and he would re seal the pan for free. I cant say enough about how helpful Alan was at Kwik Shift. I was having issues with the clucth on my 98 Honda Civic not engaging into gear. Initially I took my car to another repair shop in Pleasanton. They said I needed lots of replacement work done, new clutch, new exhaust system, it was $1000+. I wanted a second opinion so I then went to Kwik Shift and Alan gave me the honest answer about my clutch. The clutch fluid resevoir was empty, he filled it and my clutch engaged just like new. He gave me the quart of fluid to keep in case it leaks a little and gets low again. The first reputable local shop I went to wouldnt even tell me the reservoir was empty when I left after paying $75 for diagnosis. Alan checked out my Honda and said I might need a new master cylinder at some point, but should be good for awhile. I didnt have the money to make any expensive/unnecessary repairs so Alan gave me the helpful information to keep my car dependably running for the least amount of expense. And the clutch has been working great every since my Kwik Shift visit over 2 months ago. Alan was like a friend telling me what, if any repairs I really needed and to keep an eye on all the fluids in my car. I will definatly take my Honda back to him if I have any future issues because he runs a honest, fair and friendly shop. read more

Went to another shop because I was 90% sure it was a front wheel bearing that needed to be replaced on my girlfriend's 2009 Honda Accord. Left it there for 4 days/over the weekend and they called me saying I had a bad transmission bearing and it would cost $1K+ to repair but they didn't have the proper tools to disassemble the transmission. Really was skeptical that it was a transmission problem since the car only had 68K miles on it. Anyway, dropped by Kwik Shift and told them what happened. My daughter took her car to a mechanic and they told her they thought she needed a transmission and wanted to charge her over $3,000. I took the car to Alan at Kwik Shift and within 5 minutes he determined that the transmission was fine and that the problem was a wheel bearing. I had what I thought to be major issues with my transmission. After I swapped my engine, each time I started my car, the O/D bulb was flashing and the Check Engine light was on. My gears did not seem to switch and overdrive was not working at all. I took my car to Alan who ran diagnostics on it and suspected that the transmission was not correctly plugged in. He sprayed the contacts with contacts cleaner and plugged it back in, and it worked like a charm. He charged me only a fraction of what I thought I would have to spend on repairing my transmission. Alan is the last honest mechanic on earth!!! My family and I have been going here for most of my repairs for well over 15 years and plan to keep on doing so!!! Alan is a real easygoing guy, and IF he got angry (which I have never seen) someone must've really been trying to push his buttons. Unfortunately, the manufacturer's warranties do not normally go beyond a 12 month period, so I really don't see why it would be the mechanics' fault that the part failed after 14 mos. I am usually pretty lazy about writing reviews on Yelp, but this time I feel compelled to share my experience with Alan. I have a 1995 Honda Accord EX that has been running great and passed smog check every time for the past 21 years. When I put the car on sale, a guy came, opened the front hood, did something, and drove off (with me on the passenger side). Suddenly the check engine light came on. The next day I took it to a shop and the scan showed a transmission code, which means it won't pass the smog and I cannot sell the car. The shop recommended me to Kwik (Alan). So I took the car to Alan and, amazingly, he really spent time diagnosing the issue. You can tell he loves to find the cause and he is an expert on that (he won't just say you need a new or rebuilt transmission). After more than one day of diagnostic work, he found out that there is nothing wrong with the transmission and the issue is that a plug behind the engine is in the wrong place. He put the plug back in the right place and everything worked wonderfully (and it passed smoke check after that). Alan only charged me very reasonable labor work for the diagnostics.
