If time and money is of no value, RST is right for you! I own a classic carbureted Chevy small block vehicle and the owner said he raced and tuned such cars in the past, so I thought RST would be the right shop for me.. I was wrong. For my first visit, I simply wanted my car to pass smog, so I made an APPOINTMENT and they said it shouldn't take more than a week to complete... I get my car back THREE WEEKS later, with a passed smog certificate at over $600!? WHAT?! And what was the point of making an appointment if they don't work on it for 3 weeks?! I later discovered (after taking my car to a more reliable shop) that they had returned my car to me, out of tune! The car was backfiring and hesitating during normal driving. I returned for a 2nd visit to weld a custom exhaust because their initial quote was too good to pass up. So I made an APPOINTMENT and they said it shouldn't take more than 2 weeks.... at EIGHT WEEKS (again, no point in making an appointment..) they only ASSESS the required work and quote me a price FIVE TIMES the initial quote! WHAT?! So, I pick up my car which is still running very poorly AND with a dead battery which I had to replace, adding insult to injury. So much time and money flushed straight down the toilet, where RST belongs. My current shop re-tuned the car at ONE FIFTH the cost of RST. And I quote from my current mechanic: "...[RST] had no idea what they were doing." read more

RST was recommended by a friend. First, I tried to drop my car off a day before my appointment since it was a convenient time for me. This confused the lady at the front desk.. she could not get her head wrapped around the concept! I told her, "do you need me to come back when you are closed to use the key drop?" She just continued to argue with me. I thought to myself, "what are we arguing about? Don't I have an appointment?" She had me wait until the "Boss" (Roger) came back. What a joke! At that point I had to explain to him, why I was dropping my car off? (Which I discussed when I made the appointment a week prior). And, why a day early? (Is it that hard to understand?!). My appointment was for 10am the next day.. I call around 4pm after receiving no call all day. One item need repaired, a door lock cylinder (average price online, with labor, $240). RST quoted around $600 since there was some more work involved. I call around and most other shops said the price was fair. Also, I ask if he could check out a squeaking noise from a front wheel. He could not hear the noise (which everyone who's ever been in my car can) but he did recommend the wheel bearings front and back be replaced. RST quoted $1,600, this seemed high so I called around and every other shop quoted around $800. Why is RST so much more? I went ahead with the door lock work. Roger said that work should be finished on Friday. Again, no call all day. I called at 4pm, one hour before they close. Where they not going to call? Just lock up for the weekend with my car? Work was finished and the total came out to $749! Why so high? RST charged me $150 for a brake inspection! What a joke! Not a good experience and definitely wont be coming back or recommending RST to anyone. read more

This will be my last visit to RST. Originally looked online for a mechanic close by and found RST with good reviews. Service on the previous two visits had been OKAY, overpriced yes but not much to throw my hands up about. First visit, spent 1700$ on passenger side exhaust manifold and rear brakes on my 4Runner. Had to bring it back because the rear brakes failed on me while driving (parking brake mechanism inside the disc) and required re-repair. Brought my wife's car in and spent 4k on a full tune up. Now when I drive it, I hear clunking coming from the front that was not there before. Roger says I need control arms....okay maybe it didn't go together as well as it came apart =D ...ill do that myself. NOW third visit I drop my car off with an appointment to do the driver side exhaust manifold (4Runner). I rented a car and prepared to be without my vehicle for a few days to a week. Shame on me for not calling them. TWO WEEKS LATER I CALL AND THEY HAVEN'T EVEN STARTED my car and are quoting me $3000...if you knew what you told me on the phone and haven't started, that information would have been nice to know 2 weeks ago! Give me my keys Roger and we will never see each other again. It actually costed me $300 to keep my car at RST for 2 weeks. UGGHHHH Poor service and overpriced as hell. I'm ok paying for overpriced outstanding service but its just not there. read more

I am a highly skeptical customer of most auto repair shops, and RST is one that I've used and learned to trust. I purchased a van on craigslist and was the victim of fraud. The engine needed to be replaced and I took it to RST based on the word of others that have experience with Roger. Since having the engine replaced I have had zero problems with it. Working with RST, and with Roger, was a break from the normal for someone that doesn't know much about cars. I was told what I needed, and more importantly, was told what I didn't need. I have historically not been much of a Yelper, but I feel RST and Roger were more than worthy of a shout out!!! Being a girl I often do not feel like mechanics respect my ability to understand what they tell me about my car... what they don't know, is my dad MADE me rebuild a VW engine when I was just a young lady and I am not as naive as they make me feel. Am a up on all the new technology? No, but Roger and his team are!!! And they spoke to me intelligently. Though I went in for a clutch repair, I knew there might be other things in disrepair... it is a 14 year old car after all!!! So I asked him to look it over completely. Roger found that the car did have some other issues and we discussed the priorities. At no time did he pressure me into any unneeded repairs, and was very clear what MUST happen and what could wait. Living in San Jose, there are a myriad of repair shops to choose from at my disposal... but for this kind of service, the little extra drive to Fremont is well worth my time and effort. Bottom line, I would recommend this shop to anyone. They were knowledgeable, honest, professional, courteous and I was so happy with the experience that as soon as my car was ready... we dropped off my husbands for the same honest diagnostic and repair. read more

Most expensive oil change ever! Quoted me $53 for oil change and tire rotation, then informed me that my truck took a synthetic blend and told me it would be $98! Total scam! Classic bait and switch! What are you supposed to do when they have your car and all they need to do is put the oil in? They decided to give me the tire rotation for free after I complained. Still paid $73! Total BS! My car needed smog hoses put on so I could get my car to pass smog. And that was all I was told that I needed, Took it there and it has been a NIGHTMARE since . Roger had my car for 7 weeks, while I had a rent a car . Roger the owner started charging me for things that I did not approve of like rebuilding my carberator, bleeding my brakes, replace the radiator hoses , which did not need to be done. My radiator was replace 2 weeks before I took it took him. Said that my exhaust pipes needed to be replace because there was a lot of black in the pipes and the smog machine was reading it and not passing smog, he made it sound like that was the problem well more MONEY for him and NO IT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM. he said that it would be approx. $1000 dollars well it was a little more. Had a gas lock on my gas tank he said it was not there when he put gas in my car, but 5 DIFFERENT TIMES OFFERED to by me one. NOW WHY ARE YOU GONNA OFFER TO BUY SOMETHING THAT YOU INSTITED WAS NEVER THERE. Well found it broken in my backseat of my car. In Jan 2016, I started the Mechanical Restoration Process of a 1970 Mustang. My Mustang is a Drive and Show Car, which I'm very particular about.
