One of the worst experiences I've had in a long time. Where to begin? The first red flag was that the restaurant was completely empty when we walked in. The waitress seemed surprised to see us. Almost like she couldn't believe we actually wanted to eat there. The consistency of the soup led me to believe that it was very old and had been reheated day after day. We ordered potstickers as an appetizer and they were okay but we had to ask for plates (were we supposed to use our hands)and when they were brought to us they were dirty. 2 of us ordered the Mongolian Beef. After my first bite I asked "Does the beef taste funny to you?" The answer was yes. Rancid! Two other patrons did come in while we were there and I noticed they complained about their glasses being dirty. Ordered delivery using Postmates. Got two entrees and a soup. They bagged the 3 items in a bag with the soup being in the middle. By the time the order arrived to me the soup container was smushed together by the other two items and the styrofoam cracked, all the liquids spilled out into the bag. Soup itself was meh, the meat all tasted funny and the wontons were kinda yucky. I tried to eat it but couldn't. The other two items were beef chow fun and black bean sauce chicken. The chow fun was ok, I asked for the noodles to be well done and that of course didn't happen, and the beef in the entree was again yucky. The black bean chicken was ok - the veggies were good and so was the sauce but chicken was sketchy - tbh not even sure if it was chicken. I know I know, stereotyping Chinese restaurants - not cool. But seriously if you eat the meat here I'd be "cautious"..... 2 stars because I didn't get sick after eating the food so that's a plus! read more

I was here on 3/27. Now I've been coming here for about 15-20 years and I'm very familiar with the original owners and their family. When I visited on Wednesday there were new people which threw me off guard but I said maybe they just have a new waitress. But also a new cook brought me my food and now I'm like what in the world?? So then the health inspector shows up lol, and I'm really interested in staying to see if I over hear anything (I didn't) BUT I did over here that they are under new ownership/management within the last few months. I regret not going here for all the years i been in Vallejo. By the looks of the place you would think its a horrible place but don't judge a book by its cover. When i walked in i did my first test to know if it's legit which is listen for a high powered stove with a carbon steel wok. Thats how you know its being done right since correct Chinese food needs to be cooked hot and fast. I knew i was getting something good at least. I ordered their lunch plate of Mongolian beef which was super cheap. Came with a bowl of soup, fried rice, chow mein and a fried wonton. It was great. All fresh cooked to make the right textures. Now is this the best? Not in vallejo i still consider China Wok better yet they are more pricey. But for the quality and amount of food you get Kwongnan is the best value in Vallejo. read more

This is my new favorite Chinese restaurant! I only just started coming here because one night I went to karaoke night at the bar next door. While I was at the bar, I could smell the awesome food being cooked and it drew me in. I just ordered the chicken fried rice to go. Great price, very flavorful AND they packed the box! It was heavy, and I love that. I've also had chow mein and Garlic chicken here, So delicious! I will be returning to this establishment on a regular basis! Very very good food. Large portions. Excellent service, the man was so nice and funny. They have the crunchiest general chicken. Very good hole in the wall!! I take people here for their first time and I guarantee they come back for the sweet lunch specials. My brother and I both left with leftovers and ate like kings. Of course we grubbed on Mongolian beef and other plates. I asked them for a plate of green beans because I like the way they make them. Very fresh. The veggies they put in all the dishes (even the onion and celery) tastes very flavorful, I'm not sure how they do it but it's easy to eat your veggies there. What happened?!? The food was once amazing but now it's horrendous. The sweet and sour pork appeared to have no sauce on it at first glance but apparently they just put a tiny spoon full over it and it was bland. The chow mien tasted like it was burnt or was cooked in a burnt pan :( the once wonderful fried won tons with meat had none and the sweet and sour sauce has been watered down and taste like vinegar. I'm not sure if they have new owners and they are trying to cut cost but It's so sad because this has been my go to spot for years (I drive from Sacramento for this place) and it's shocking how bad it's become in such a short time. read more

Amazing, amazing! I've been coming here with my family for years, and their food is always on point! Service is aces as well - the owner and his wife are almost always the ones to take your order/serve you and they are so friendly and prompt! Food is honestly the bomb and you get lots of bang for your buck (haha, see what I did there?). Generous portions, and a good price too! I usually get the lunch special with Mandarin Spare Ribs and half steamed rice/half chow mein. The meal comes with a fried chip with a sweet red sauce and small bowl of soup as an appetizer. Yummy hot jasmine tea is complimentary as well. Mandarin Spare Ribs are sweet and wonderfully crispy on the outside, and come to you piping hot. Chow mein is oily and savory. I've tried a bite of their Broccoli Beef - which is my mom's typical order - and they cook their broccoli exactly how I like it!! Cooked, but still has a good crunch to it. First, we like to frequent local businesses. Yesterday for lunch at Kwongnan Restaurant. The place was like a ghost town with no guests. We were not sure if we needed to sit down or go to the counter to order. Staff was not very nice, had a difficult time understanding us. We ordered drinks, asked for ice and a cup, NO, CAN ONLY. We went to our table and waited for the food to come. It was excessively hot in the restaurant. When the food arrived at the table we were so very disappointed. Styrofoam plates, plastic forks and all the food was brought to the table in TO GO boxes. When I asked for a straw, the server brought me over to a counter, lifted a water pitcher to provide me a straw that was in a plastic bag like you would find at a grocery store. I took a peek at the kitchen and wanted to know how long it's been since the health department was there. All this and the potstickers were nasty, stingbeans tasteless, and all this for a measly $60.00 for 2 for lunch. NOT AGAIN!!! read more
