beef fried rice
Robbie R.

We got take out here to go back to the hotel and eat. I picked this place basically cause it was close to the hotel and seem like it had all the normal Chinese food. We got the beef chow fun, pot stickers, beef fried rice and the general and his chicken! I called it in and the person taking the order took it accurately. The food was ready is just a little bit after arriving. We get back to the hotel and all the food is what it's supposed to be. They have plates and everything else at the hotel. The general chicken was good, pretty standard deep fried bereded meat nuggets, the chow fun was good as was the fried rice. I added some salt to the rice made it better. The pot stickers got a little cool during the ride over, so I zapped them in the microwave quick and then they were fine. If I was in this area again and needed Chinese food to go, I'd go back there, sure.

Ribs - overcooked and extremely tough

There is nothing more upsetting than inconsistency with food. I tried this place several weeks ago and got the ribs. They were so good, like unbelievably good. Ordered them again today, actually ordered two orders because my partner ended up eating half of the last order, only for these to be way overcooked & extremely tough. I think they try to cover them up by putting a bunch of way sauce on them. Total different experience than when I first ordered them.

Peking spareribs, combination chowmein, sweet & sour pork, mu shu pork & schezuan beef.

Loved everything about this meal! The food was great, especially the mushu pork which they prepared right at the table. Service was super fast, and the place is spotless with great presentation. We asked for chili oil but got a spicy sambal instead (maybe a little mix-up?), but it was still tasty. Tho I really prefer to have chili oil. Definitely a fan of their fresh, hot tea service.

Have been coming here for years, and this is the best Chinese spot in North Bay. The service is so authentic and they have been working here for 30 years and know our family and how often we come. Even after struggling with COVID, they managed to get by and provide a great Chinese spot for Benicia to enjoy. The restaurant is always confortable and a good atmosphere all around. The food is flavorful, unique, and cooked to perfection. Always look forward to stopping by here!

Everything we ordered was fantastic and the service was great. We raved about the restaurant to family members that lived nearby and even purchased a gift card for them. Our second visit last weekend wasn't as great, but it was still enjoyable. We had Lychee Sake on the back patio while we waited for out party to arrive. Our server was good although he seemed a bit irritable and in a rush. The food was excellent although the portions seemed a bit on the small side. Highly disappointed in the Garlic Noodles with chicken that barely tasted like garlic and only had a few tiny scraps of chicken in it. Wouldn't recommend that dish but everything else was great. The restaurant itself is on the small side and would probably feel a bit claustrophobic during busy shifts but they have a nicely decorated back patio with plenty of tables. Parking can be a bit tough on busy nights since it's mostly street parking and downtown can get pretty busy.

Well, a friend also recommend it as they live in town. Small town, most places do close pretty early. I think they closed around 8pm when we arrived. They were able to accommodate my group last minute. It was Thursday, the farmers market was going on out front and the place was pretty mellow. Inside, it was mellow but once you were in the back patio, it was pretty lively. It's where they seated us. First time also trying Burmese food. Menu did have a lot of dishes that are pretty much similar to the other southeast asian dishes. Pretty much the seasonings varies here and there. Service was great from start to finish as everyone was very sweet and friendly. Constantly checking in on us to make sure that everything was taken care of. Food wise, we started off with some of their starter. Burmese chicken wings and added fries. The seasoning was quite nice and tasty. Tossed with fries, onions, bell peppers and garlic bits. Quite tasty. Shrimp basket, classic fried shrimp in rice paper. Just like an egg roll. They were quite nice and tasty. Crispy pork belly, marinated pork belly served with a tamarind sauce. The nice crunch and sweet sauce were all great together. Entrees, a mixture of everything to share. The spicy noodles which were pretty much similar to pad Thai. Stir fry noodles with bell peppers, onions, green onions, mushrooms, scrambled eggs, peanuts and adorned with shredded cabbage. Perry much their version of pad Thai. It was good but a little too sweet for my liking. Burmese style chicken biryani, slow cooked chicken thighs and drumsticks marinated in butter, yogurt, masala, ginger and served with biryani rice. That was a meal in its own. Tasty with the sauce and the chicken literally fell off the bone. Basil chili beef was quite nice. The flavors were really good and the beef was tender. Fiery pork was a recommendation from the waiter which was also a nice dish. Stir fry tofu with pork, red onion, bell peppers, string beans, garlic and a house special soy sauce. Tasty dish as well. Lastly the chicken red curry. Slow cooked with potatoes, onions, Marsala, paprika in a rich sauce. Served with steamed rice. It was good but the other dishes outshine it. We did like the food. Very similar to a lot of other Asian dishes but their version and take on it. Pretty much similar but change it up with the spices. Service was great and the place was nice. Glad we got a table on the patio versus inside.

You actually pay for your order when you get to the store, which I would be worried for them if people place orders and don't show up. I ended up ordering Basil Eggplant with Chicken and Prawns, as well as Deluxe Chow Fun. The bag was fairly compact when I picked it up - two plastic containers of the dishes. When I opened up the container, they were overfilling! I'd say very generous portions for the price. -Basil Eggplant with Chicken and Prawns: I don't feel like this is a really traditional Chinese dish, maybe a bit more Thai, but it was delicious! I also wasn't expecting the sauce to be as red as it was. This dish had a lot of basil which I liked, and a lot of flavor. There was a good amount of protein. -Deluxe Chow Fun: Pretty good, the noodles were soft and bouncy, good amount of flavor, and also lots of protein. Service during pickup was friendly. When I was there, it seemed like the restaurant is popular, with both diners and people coming in to pickup their to-go orders. This is a very solid place for Chinese food!

We were greeted by a gentleman with a fun sense of humor - can't really explain it, but he made us smile. The place is small, but very welcoming. We were shown to a window booth, where we chatted a bit before we looked at the menu. The server came to take our order and we had barely even looked. She told us to take all the time we needed. Eventually, we made our decisions. My friend got one of the lunch combos - a chicken curry (she chose red curry, you can also choose green or yellow), and I don't remember what the other combo item was. But everything looked delightful on her plate! On our way into the restaurant, I spotted a sign with a lunch special on it - crispy chicken kao soi, a noodle dish, and it looked good, so that's what I requested. It was quite yummy! The best part was the deeply flavored sauce that the noodles were nestled into - I could put it in a cup and drink it, it was soooo good, lots of savory fish sauce and just enough spice to keep it interesting. Besides the noodles actually in the sauce, there were crispy fried noodles on top as well, adding a nice texture variety. The picture doesn't really do it justice. I was hungry and dove in before I remembered to take the photo, oops. The chicken was breaded and laid on top of the noodles in thin slices, very nice and crunchy. We had Thai hot tea with our lunch - not the sweet kind, but the nice clean-flavored hot tea. It went perfectly with our dishes. I don't know exactly when either of us will get back to Benicia again, but if and when we do, I hope we can stop by Pearl Thai again!

*** Vegetarian Review ***…read more None of their dishes have fish sauce so you don't get knocked over the head with the smell when you walk in. They remind me every time I order, but as a vegetarian, we've all had that fish smell delivered to us at a Thai restaurant at least once (probably twice, more likely three times) in our eating lifetimes. It is such a relief to not have to worry about that here. Would I Come Back? Yes, when I'm in town, I make it a point to come here. Did I mention they don't use fish sauce!? Parking is is incredibly easy so that's never an issue. It's a shared parking lot with many stores and other restaurants. I typically go on a Sunday for lunch, and even with a party of 5, I haven't had to wait for a table. Seating capacity is probably 45-50 guests so if you're planning a large party, definitely best to call ahead and make a reservation. The Food: Roti & Yellow Curry ($14, Grade A+): Fried roti with a yellow curry dipping sauce. It's a super savory dish, and honestly, I should have had you at "fried." If you're wondering what roti is, think of it as a buttery, flaky, pan-fried flatbread. It's large enough appetizer to share with 3 people, but you're pushing your luck with 4. Pad Thai with Fried Tofu ($16, Grade A): I've had this dish 5 times now. To be completely transparent, it's the exact reason why I can't give Pearl Thai a full 5-star rating, purely because of consistency. The first time I got it, it was perfect. The second and third times, it had no sauce and was dry. The fourth time, I asked them to make it saucy, and they obliged to an almost soupy level. For this fifth time, I just ordered it straight up and zipped my lip on any alterations. As they say, the fifth time was a charm! When it's made with the perfect amount of sauce, this dish is excellent. The noodles have that exact texture you look for in a pad thai, and the egg gets that great scorch from the wok for an added layer of flavor. Also, the tofu has been incredibly fresh every single time. It never tastes slightly spoiled, which happens a lot in smaller towns that don't heavily support plant-based diets where tofu just sits in a fridge eagerly awaiting someone to order it. Mixed Vegetables ($14, Grade A): Sautéed wood ear mushrooms and mixed vegetables in a garlic soy sauce. If you've ever had Pad Pak, you already know this flavor profile. I really enjoyed it, but next time I'll ask for no carrots and maybe half the garlic. Overall, it's a perfect dish that absolutely requires steamed rice to soak up all that great flavor. Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango ($8, Grade A): The classic dessert we see at all Thai restaurants, but they serve it with purple sticky rice, making it a visually yummy dish. It's plenty of food to share between two people. Bottom Line: The service here is great and very friendly. It's a small, local shop with "Best in Town" awards highlighted on the walls. The environment is clean, and the food is served hot and arrives at the table quick. One Last Word: Don't leave here without ordering the roti with yellow curry for an appetizer. Pure savory goodness!
