I think I came in with too high of expectations given the reviews. I thought it was just ok. Definitely a good amount of food for the price, especially the bento combo, but I was not wowed. I still enjoyed my meal and the service was very friendly and attentive with my water getting refilled several times. The fried food was nice and lightly crispy. The salmon collar was tender and a large piece. The baked lobster roll was too sweet with too much mayo. The sashimi and California rolls left a lot to be desired. Maybe it's because these are just the items that came included in a combo, and maybe it's because I didn't order the right things...but I wasn't too impressed given all the reviews about how this is the best Japanese food that needs to be discovered. We were lucky to have a fantastic chef who served us an omakase to die for. The flavor of each dish is unmatched. There wasn't a single thing I wouldn't order again. This sushi place is definitely a hole in the wall that needs to be discovered. This might be the best sushi I've had in a while. I grew up in the Orange County and Los Angeles area and as we all know, they have pretty good sushi spots there. I recently moved into the inland Empire and thought that I was going to have to drive so far to get decent sushi until I discovered this little gem! My friend and I came here on a Friday night - there was no wait and the server, seated us immediately. We were tended to within the first five minutes and ordered. Between the two of us, we ordered the miso duck, beef tongue, baby lobster roll, and a few of their nigiri's! All the food was cooked to perfection and each slice of sushi melted in your mouth. The fish felt like butter. I was so impressed. I will definitely be back. If you're ever in the diamond bar area, I highly recommend coming to this restaurant to satisfy your sushi cravings. You will not be disappointed in anyway. Lastly, a huge shoutout to Hiromi - she was absolutely wonderful and so sweet. She always came back to make sure that my friend and I were tended to, and that our experience with nothing less than perfect. Kyala is one of the best Japanese/Sushi restaurants in the Diamond Bar area. We've been eating here more and more ever since the pandemic. However, I feel like it's gotten even better after new management took over the restaurant over a year ago. We normally buy take out. It's usually a 30 min to 1 hour wait for your food to be ready. The kids eat their tonkatsu like it's going out of style. I usually eat their Salmon teriyaki or sushi. Their sushi is fresh and delicious. Their prices are about normal for the area. There's a large parking lot, but also there's a lot of businesses in the mall, so parking may be hard to find. If you dine in the restaurant, then be prepared to wait during the most busy times. Usually when I'm craving Japanese this is my spot! Kyala is located in the Walmart plaza. There is easy access to parking and during peak time like dinner, there will be a wait. The restaurant is cozy with a few small tables and a sushi bar. I tend to stick to the two-item dinner combo. My picks are chicken teriyaki and tempura. The tempura comes with two shrimp and veggie tempura. They don't over batter their tempura which I like. I have order the sautéed white fish with miso and that was good also. The combination comes with miso soup, side salad, potatoes with mayo, and rice. Everything comes out fresh. They offer everything you want from sushi, salad, soba, donburi, rolls, Japanese curry and more. The service is good and everyone is super nice. Overall we had a pleasant experience at Kyala! The duck miso appetizer was delicious and a must order. Under the slices of duck are slices of tofu and oyster mushrooms! The duck appetizer was a lot smaller than we thought but I think it's still worth a try. We ordered a variety of sashimi, from salmon, tuna to toro. I would say the fish quality was cold and fresh! The sashimi tasted above average but it wasn't something that knocked my socks off. The fish didn't have a fishy tasted or scent to it either which is a good sign! Our sashimi took a bit of time to come out which surprised me because it was slices of fish, nothing we were waiting on was cooked other than the duck appetizer which came early. I would definitely recommend calling in for reservations as they filled up really quickly at around 6:30 pm. The restaurant is small inside but it has a warm/homey feel to it. The servers were kind and attentive. I wouldn't say this restaurant is a must try but if you're in the area and looking for some decent sushi, I would recommend eating here! read more

Brought my mom here for a light dinner. She ordered the rainbow roll and miso soup that she thoroughly enjoyed. I had the happy hour sashimi sampler of black snapper, halibut and red snapper. Also had a piece of blue fin, salmon belly and Yellowtail that were good. For dessert I ate the blue crab hand roll which was tasty Got my dad a baked scallop roll to go which he finished with a smile. The servers are very friendly and attentive. Kyala is my ultimate childhood spot, and I honestly don't understand how it could ever get less than 5 stars. It's a family-run business, and the owner, Morrison, is one of the chefs. His wife is also always there serving! She's so cute and sweet, really makes you feel at home. They're always smiling and never seems to take a break, making sure everyone is enjoying themselves. I've been coming here since I was literally a baby, and if I could, I'd still come every single week. The food is phenomenal--fish imported from Japan, not overpriced, fresh, and you can truly taste the quality. The presentation and attention to detail are unmatched, and it's clear the chefs are extremely passionate about what they do. The service is just as incredible. Yumi, who's been working there since I was a kid, somehow hasn't aged at all. It's like magic--maybe it's in the sushi. (Kidding... but not really.) Kyala is such a gem. The warm, welcoming vibe makes it clear why so many of us regulars keep coming back. The restaurant is small, which adds to the cozy ambiance, but I'd recommend making a reservation. Kayla has been a staple in Diamond Bar for years, and it never disappoints! The sushi is always fresh, and the service is great. I recently tried their Chirashi lunch special, and it's definitely worth it. They only serve 12 of them a day, so you have to come early to secure one. This establishment was absolutely magnificent. I came here on a whim with a colleague, as we had just finished a business meeting and were feeling quite peckish. We came during rush hour while it was very busy, but despite that we got seated very quickly. A fine young man named "Isami" was our waiter who helped take our orders very efficiently, and were there for us every time we needed a refill on drinks or had any questions. The restaurant has a very Japanese aesthetic, and I could tell that there was a lot of care put into the decorations on the wall. After making a very large business deal, that took a lot of our energy and caused a lot of stress, the slow and vintage Japanese music helped make our experience a lot more relaxing. The food was amazing, I can't quite describe my experience here in words. Our appetizers came first and the tskune (Skewers) just melted in our mouths. The croquettes were crispy, yet were very light and delicious. We ordered the dinner combination platters, and each had different items to share. The chicken katsu was tender and rich, and the tonkatsu sauce paired nicely with it. The tempura was the same, and the different vegetables that were fried were just as crispy and tender. I really can't compliment this restaurant enough. The way everything comes together definitely makes this my favorite restaurant, and I will be coming back again very soon. My business partner and I decided to come here after a very big sale was made. After a long stressful day the incredible customer service and amazing food made me so relaxed. On top of that the restaurant was absolutely beautiful. I ordered the combination dinner with karaage and Tonkatsu and it was delicious. The karaage was fried perfectly and had so much flavor. Kyala reminds me of my favorite sushi place back here in Northern California: Ichika. Both are cozy with great wait service and high-quality sushi. My aunt treated me out here for dinner, and I could easily see why she enjoys Kyala so much. Their menu is expansive, and all their items are so fresh and delicious. You don't feel rush to leave they take their time with you and give you great recommendations on fish and any other items that one can eat. If you have an allergy, they will work with you. Finally we returned to Kyala after long time. The pictures are from 2 visit. Including Chirashi Lunch Special at Sushi Bar only. Very good deal and limited time till December 2023. You got tempura, salad with salmon skin, chawanmushi, miso soup with nameko mushroom and special Chirashi with a piece of each sushi compare to regular Chirashi which usually come with 2 pcs of the sushi. It's delicious and fresh as usual. Service is great and friendly. Usually crowded but the wait is not that long. Space is not that large. Typical nice decent size sushi restaurant. Nigiri sushi always on the spot. Beef bowl is tasty with plenty of rice. Spider Roll and Philadelphia roll also good. They have options of half and half. Half udon, half teriyaki, which are very good and fulfilling. Definitely our sushi spot in the area. read more

It's a little bit of a smaller restaurant that can fill up quickly, so I'd recommend a reservation if possible but they also call if you're on their paper waitlist. Had a bunch of options to choose from including classic kitchen dishes (teriyaki & the like) to fresh fish from the sushi bar. Ended up ordering their November set special which included udon, agadashi tofu, sashimi salad, tempura, and a spicy tuna handroll all for $27. Hot tea is included in the meal. The place isn't big but they make do and it's tradition Japanese, not Korean or Chinese owned. The food here is amazing, quality of sushi is fresh , no complaints. Very unique appetizers as well. Agedashi tofu was not what I was used too, it was in a mushroom broth but it was still good. Just different from the big tofus I was used too.
